Shared folders Quit on me

I run 11.1.2 on the Linux Mint 17 64 b host Workstation.  My main guest is a Windows machine.

I've updated recently to 10 Windows in Windows 7.  I retroactively updated VMWare Windows 10 hardware compatibility setting.  I reinstalled VMWare Tools.

Shared folders has simply stopped working.

If there is no solution for this, I'll have to go back to my Windows 7 preview that I took to safety before the upgrade.

Hello

When you say 'I reinstalled VMware Tools' did you uninstall VMware Tools, restart invited, install VMware Tools, prompted to reboot, or was he "ran reinstall VMware Tools" in the menu?

If it is the last, and then try the old menu "Reinstall" is not always works well.

Is it, in fact, true? Shared folders is longer supported?

If so, what are the alternatives (other than NFS, Samba, SSHFS, etc.)?

    Hello @rasa

Unfortunately, I can't make an official statement from VMware, but I think you're wrong interpret this answer.

The problem is that the distribution of VMware tools is a bit 'complex', the reason is actually to simplify things and have all of the drivers in VMware conveyed by the respective kernel developers and linux distributions.

    There are 3 different "tracks".

1 Linux "inbox" drivers, for example. the drivers that are part of the kernel / linux distributions, these include, network driver vmxnet3, pvscsci driver, memory balloon pilot, vmwgfx 3d graphics driver, drivers vmci and vsock, see also: KB VMware: VMware for Linux VMware Windows support

Down on this page you can find the part that responds to your question:

Why a version of an operating system do not include the vmhgfs driver?

The vmhgfs driver has been added upstream. To work around this situation, install VMware Tools provided with the workstation or Fusion products, who will install the lack vmhgfs drivers. The VMware Tools installer does not disturb VMware Windows included with the operating system.

2 open-vmware-tools drivers, these are extra libraries extending the features. This used to contain everything that in the past but parts have been moved to inbox drivers and the part you are looking for drivers - vmhgfs - is part of the supply of office products. See also: KB VMware: VMware to open-vm-tools support

    3. the vmware tools bundled package. This is where you find the vmhgfs driver, your problem is now that you are trying to use Ubuntu 14.04 and that the OS is not out yet (next month). I installed it without any customization here, and while I can list the mount point, that is not to have the shared folder. Drag & drop between guests however works. I'll take a look at why it does not list the part after the OS is updated to the most recent (update has not since last week)

    hope this helps,

Edit: FWIW I reinstalled the vmware tools and he has indeed missed out on the vmhgfs driver. While I can probably patch (errors appear quite trivial) I'm not in that much of a need and prefer to wait that Ubuntu has released faithful and VMware has updated the vmware tools. For now I just use drag & drop as mentioned above.

  • Cannot save files in shared folders

    Hello

I'm under VM Fusion on Leopard with a Windows XP Machine.  I am able to browse and open files on the disk to my Mac using the shared folders drive.  However when I come to save all the changes I get an error saying that the file could not be saved. I tried save the file locally and then copy the file across Explorer and I get an access denied error.

This turns out to be a good pain and am now having to resort using a USB drive to copy the files through the, which is quite tedious

Has anyone encountered this problem?  I have now upgraded to the latest version of VM Fusion 2, but this has not yet resolved the problem

    Any help would be welcome

    See you soon

    I work with version 1.0.1 on Yosemite 10.10.5 Photos (Mac Pro Mid 2010, 2 x 3.33 GHz 6 - Core Intel Xeon, 48 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC)

Today, suddenly my files shared in the toolbar of left missing so that the complete 'shared' - option.

It happened when someone had added a photo to a shared folder. Photos icon shows a '1', indicating that the photo has been added. But I can't find shared folders more and do not know where to see the photo.

I am connected to iCloud and I there active streaming option as well as the photo of iCloud sharing option. I left pictures, shot these Photos options off and on again, restarted and it was the same thing.

On my iPhone, I can see the shared folder still exists. It ist just isn't on my Mac desktop.

Can someone help me out here? Thanks in advance!

Do you hear, to the title of the 'Shared' section is also absent from the sidebar?  If you still see the 'Shared' title, move the pointer to the right reveal hidden ShowHide control. and click on 'display '.

If even the title is missing, check if your current photo library will continue to operate as a Photo library system.  In the Photos > preferences > shared "Use as system library" option should be greyed out.

Check your system preferences > iCloud > Photos > Options, if iCloud photo sharing is still.

Check your Photos > preferences > iCloud, if iCloud photo sharing is still.

The owner of the shared album may have deleted the album. Then it vanish inyour library too.

  • R7800 cannot see shared folders SMB VPN

    Hello

I started to use VPN on the R7800 service, and I can use Remote Desktop connection Microsoft 9.3 iOS app to connect to my computer at home (8.1 Windows) through the internet, as if I was on the LAN (192.168.1.2). However, the apps that read SMB shared folders do not detect them (BREW 4 pro). Similarly, on my Nexus 6 p, solid explore cannot open shared folders when connected via VPN. Is it possible to read SMB from Windows shared folders remotely via VPN on the R7800?

I tried to ping 192.168.1.2 too from my iPad and there is no answer. When I ping my Android devices, however they respond. But, again, RDP to this computer works, so I don't know what is happening, someone with more knowledge can help?

Please verify ICMP and SMB service on your PC. If it is on the local subnet change it to EVERYTHING.

I have a XP Pro SP3 with all the recommended updates installed as of 10/02/2011 that sporadically will lose connections to all shared folders on the domain controller Server 2003 SP2.  The actions will connect and be accessible on initial login/start, but after an indeterminate amount of time all drives mapped on the 2 k 3 server disconnects themselves.  Actions that are located on a Samba server are always accessible and only this one workstation is having issues.  I also made sure that there is no other disk, physical or mapped, which have the same letters assigned on this workstation.   Another thing I noticed is that it seems that to do so for a particular user who is an administrator.  All users of all types seem to be able to work without any problems.

  • Home network not working not not because of 'ComputerName' not in the list of shared folders.

My simple home network of 2 PCs with XP, SP3 and a Netgear WNDR3700 router was working fine. I changed ISP and now cannot get the home network to the top. Run the home networking on every PC wizard implements the internal IP of 192.168.1.1 for the router and 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 for 2 PCs. Shared folders and files appear to be configured correctly and successfully, I can ping the router and the other PC from each PC. After the Microsoft troubleshooting procedure, everything is good until I get to the stage where the "ComputerName" must appear in the list of shared folders in computer management, System Tools, shared folders, shares. All other devices and shared folders appear correctly on each PC. It is about the last step in troubleshooting, but I can't in front of her. What can I do? Or is the wrong thing? I'm almost to the point of thinking there is something in the registry (added with my ISP change process) that stop working. Help!

In general, it is due to a firewall, in which case advice Jack will help.  In addition, there are a condition [rare] where the Type of a computer node becomes defined 'Counterparts' or 'P Pei' that will stop the communications between computers.  Bring up a command prompt (start-> Run-> "cmd") and enter the command:
    ipconfig/all
If the 'Type of node' line presents itself as "Peer-Peer" or "Pp" or type "P", ("Broadcasting", "Mixed" and "Hybrids" are OK) then check out the following article:

  • Vista can ping machine to another, but cannot access shared folders on the machine

    Hi experts,

Recently, we have problems with some Vista machines to access shared folders on other Vista machines. This seems to happen after the automatic updates of windows.

These 'problem' machines are able to ping other machines 'good' but is unable to connect to shared folders machines 'good '.

The reverse works fine ('good' machines can ping and access 'problem' machines).

When you connect to folders shared of these 'problem' to 'good' machines machines using \\machinename\folder or even \\machine_ip\folder, the error window "the network location cannot be reached" appears.

'Problem' machines can do desktop connection remote for the machines 'good '.

All machines have the parameters: -.

    Same workgroup

    Same domain - private network

    Network discovery on

    File sharing on

    Public folder sharing

    Password protected sharing

I am not able to find a solution on the web site and microsoft.

Re-install Vista on 1 machine of 'problem' and the problem goes away.

The problem with reinstalling is subject to re-registration of certain software licenses which has no registration online (through applications for certificates).
Is there a resolution without having to re - install Vista?
