Hello

Error code 24 characters for short drive Self Test (DST) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know.

Kind regards

I've had this laptop since around to last August and so far he has played normally without any problems. However, this morning the phone became unusable as it would freeze whenever I tried to open anything after the start. Because I could not activate McAfee security, which I do have but have had disabled for almost a month or two because he slowed a little games I rarely use all dangerous Web sites, I have activated the diagnostic system and quickly an error is found with the DST Hard Drive, with the UCWFXL error code - M 7, 7834 - MFPWL1 - 60VM03. I'm not entirely sure what this question means, but I clearly have to solve in order to make use of the laptop again. • HP Pavilion Touchamart 15: Short DST has no hard drive

    Hello

So I recently ran malaware bytes and removed all the files that it detected. Then I restarted my laptop and it got stuck on splash screen. I turned it off and ran the Hardware Diagnostics, the only failure was the DST short Hard Drive with the failure ID: UAN42C-6P47K4-MFPWXG-60VX03. Also, I can't start windows, what should I do?

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Hello

In theory, no matter what standard 2.5 "HDD laptop would work but please use the same brand with the existing HARD disk can be more (capacity). Or if you wish, you can bet part number on page #39 of the first manual from the following link:

I have 2 HDD, each with 750Go and it seems that disk 1 is a failure.

    (1) how can I remove the disc 1, which seems to be the MAIN (System) drive and continue to use only disc 2? or

    (2) if I need to buy new HARD drive to replace the failed disk 1, please advise that you buy and please provide detailed replacement procedure, to keep my data and OS.

Initially, my PC was purchased with Windows 7, but I recently ugraded to Windows 10.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dv7-6000 series manual

Since you have 2 hard drives, you have a built-in spare part but you will have to swap positions that only the hard drive in the Bay of primary is bootable and can be the operating system disk. If you have data on the secondary drive, you must store it somewhere if you want to keep it. Because you can always boot from the primary drive, I would say that your data is safe on this subject, but you want to stop using it as soon as possible. You try to use the wrong disc you will have problems. If your laptop computer has been upgraded for Windows 10 and it shows "activated" in the information system, you can reinstall Windows 10 as a clean install and it will show as "responsive" when you connect to the internet. You can use the media Windows 10 tool to do a full installation disc Windows 10.

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/Windows-10-media-creation-tool-create-installation-media-upgrade

You can also see this as a sign that it is time for one SSD drive. Tomorrow being Cyber Monday you will find the best opportunities out there on the semiconductor readers right now.

This is just one example; a concert of 240 for $55. If it were my laptop I installed an SSD in the Bay of primary and run Windows from it. Normally, I would advise that you can clone the old drive to a new drive, but with errors on the old disk, it would not be a good idea to try to clone. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Pavilion g6: Hard Drive check: short DST failed

Hi, my laptop doesn't start, I managed the hard drive quick test, with the following report:

    DST short failed

    Failure ID: PLNORG-66H7LD-MFPX1G-60QB03

    Product ID: B4Z95UA #ABL

This means that my hard drive is over? What I have to change? If I could retrieve the data I have on my C: drive?

    Sébastien Debia

DST = disk Fail hard drive has not failed and must be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery disks. It may be big, but not small ability more. For example if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can use a 750 GB hard drive, but not a 320 GB hard drive.

  • Envy 17 3D: error HARD drive or motherboard

Hello. I accidentally spilled Pepsi on my laptop last week. I am immediately turned me off, cleaned up the best I could and let it dry... for 30 minutes. From powering it it worked well for 10 seconds, then it started restarting until it just died. After a week or so, I tried on again and he actually started, but it won't start windows. A ran the Diagnostics and everything except hard drive DST short (soft error) and hard drive Long DST (soft error). Hard drive optimized DST passed fine.

I have two drives, SSD with windows on and the standard 1 TB HARD drive. So I'm ready to communicate with the HP repair service in my town tomorrow, but they are really, really expensive, and I wonder if there is anything I could do myself. My readers could be damaged and then I can just replace myself, or damage the motherboard, seeing how it was (and probably still has) some Pepsi on it?

Pepsi is corrosive and has loads of conductive sugar.

I would consider replacing the keyboard.

There was probably some liquid to spill Pepsi which is is casting the laptop if it signals a failure on the hard drive that wasn't there before the spill.

The next time something like that happens to not turn on the unit for about a week and put it somewhere it is very hot and dry.

Never turn on a device after thirty minutes of Pepsi, tea, or coffee spill. That could push easily in the end of its useful life.

    Hello

Your laptop is listed as coming with a HARD drive from 640 GB, but given that there is little difference in cost, you can replace this with a 750 GB option.

The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.

750 GB hard drive for laptop.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 64 of your maintenance & Service Guide.

    ***************************************************************

Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system, you can create your own installer of Windows 7 USB drive flash as follows.

Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

An example of a COA label can be seen here.

Using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below--these Images are of a very respected source (Digital River).

    Windows 7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit

Once completed, use the Microsoft Tool on the following link to create a USB bootable Windows 7 installer - you will need a 4 GB flash for this drive.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

When creating, tap away at the esc you key start Notepad to open the Start Menu.  Insert the Windows 7 flash player.  Select the Boot Options menu (usually f9).  Use the arrow keys to select the flash drive and press ENTER.

If your laptop will boot from it, use the flash player to perform the installation, enter the activation key for Windows on the label of the COA in the request and once the installation is complete, use the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without the software load extra normally delivered with OEM installations.

You may need, additional drivers and software are here.

  • Pavilion 2206TX: hard drive DST short test failed

Hard drive DST short test failed.

For a few days, my laptop is not starting.

Run the diagnostics showed "hard drive DST short test failed.

I removed the hard drive [brand Toshiba] and connected as an external drive to a Mac.

I am able to access your hard drive and copy some content from it. So, it looks like a problem with the hard drive.

Is this a problem with the connection of harrdisk to the motherboard or with the hard drive itself?

    Help, please.

    Hello

Yes, you can use your friend recovery media in your. It should work.

I'm not able to find a recovery media for your model of third-party vendors too.

No, you can't create USB recovery by plugging the old drive as external references to another PC. You have to use HP application recovery manager supplied with your laptop and create a set. I think that you will not be able to do from a failing drive.

It certainly seems that your hard drive has failed.  I hope you made a backup of your personal data and you did the recovery disks.

Here's a guide for you help restore the system after replacing the drive.  Read it before buying the new drive.  It will help you to ensure that your experience is positive.  The guide is for Win 7.  If you have another OS, you can search for the same guide.  If you decide to add an SSD, it must be at least 120 GB.

This problem could be due to an Application or a driver conflict, virus issues, corruptions of files due to incompatible applications, incorrect judgments, update failures due to conflicts, mounted sudden power so portable, sudden falls etc...

HP will offer a replacement HDD if the laptop warranty is Active, otherwise you can buy a SATA hard drive in a nearby retail store

Please make sure that you get at least equal as long as the original one in order to use recovery disks. If you need you can buy a bigger, but not smaller hard drive capacity. For example, if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can improve it to 750 GB hard drive, but not 320 GB hard drive

Please try the troubleshooting below indicated once the steps:

Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the power adapter AC.

Step 02. Press and hold the power button for more than 30 seconds

Step 03. Plug the AC power adapter / (leave the battery for now)

Step 04. Press the power button and check if the unit is operating normally

If the steps listed above is not enough, then you can try reinstalling the hard disk on your laptop

If the problem persists again please Contact HP if your HP laptop is under warranty, HP could replace the hard drive and provide recovery media to restore the operating system to factory after the replacement (if you have not yet created recovery disks/USB support)

Note: Back up all personal data on an external drive if possible.
