Should combination of software I use?

OK, I'm having a difficulty in finding the right software to meet my needs. Since I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to virtualization and the various requirements of the affected software, I'll give you a breakdown of what I have and what I would do. I hope that someone will know the best solution for me.

What I have

A single server.

Intel Xeon 2.8 hyperthreading (2)

1 GB of RDAM (800)

60 gb 15 k SCSI (2)

A laptop (to use as a client)

1.6 ghz Celeron

2 GB of DDRII (667)

80 GB 5 400 rpm (Sata II)

Xubuntu 9.04

A workstation (for use as a client)

P4 2.66 ghz

512 MB DDR (400)

40 GB 7 400 rpm (IDE)

Windows Xp SP3

One desktop (to use as a client sometimes)

AMD X 2 6000 +.

2 gb DDRII (800)

500 gb 7 400 rpm (Sata II)

Gentoo 2008.0

1 netbook (resolution could make it difficult to use as a client)

1.6 ghz Intel Atom

ddrII (667) 1 GB

80 GB 5 400 rpm (Sata II)

Ubuntu Netbook Remix

OK, so here's what I would do.

I have ESXi installed 3.5 on my server with OpenSuse 11.1 and Xubuntu 9.04 VM.

I would like to be able to use OpenSuse on my computer and a portable computer as the main operating system, via the server VM.

My idea was that I could start directly in the VM (Possible?)

The Gentoo workstation I only access the virtual machine from time to time, at my ease.

The Ubuntu netbook probably don't need too, but it might be useful when I'm out at the pool or something.

Should combination of software I use to do this most effectively? The way I understand it now

I'll have to use VNC or something to connect to the virtual machine under Linux, I guess I could do that, but I do not know how

leave start? Also, I would like to the individual VM to turn on only when a customer tries to start their. And I would like to

you would like to be able to stop them from the client. I could use as much help as possible, who know so I'm new to

Virtualization, I'm a moderately experienced Linux admin and it should be able to do everything that is necessary. Thank you.

I don't know how you would with only 1 GB of RAM. I don't remember the minimum RAM, but you are not satisfied with so little.

ESXi management client works on windows only. XP is fine. VNC would work very well to connect to the virtual machines on your server.

I would first go through the getting started guide and the documentation. You can also take a look at VMware server. There are less stringent requirements. It runs directly on a linux distribution.
