Should I update my Bios?

I have an old DV6707us.  I bought a new computer and when it failed, I took my old laptop and replace the hard drive has failed. The original system is Windows Vista.  A couple of months he has reformatted the new hard drive and installed Win7.

My question is: there was an old BIOS upgrade, I the way back a couple of years ago, when the computer was using Win Vista: should I update the BIOS again since I installed Win 7?  He has not rejected since that time that I updated the BIOS with vista on it.

Hi imaspacewoman and welcome to the HP Forum!

I understand you're wondering if you need to update the BIOS. I suggest do you the BIOS update and am including this document to update the BIOS. Make sure you get the right Windows 7 update for 'your' computer.

Good luck and have a great day!

  • Should I update my BIOS? Aspire V5 - 571

    Hi all

I looked at the page of the BIOS on the Acer drivers and the section of downloads for my laptop (Aspire V5 - 571, ultrathin) and there are a few more recent changes. Usually, I wouldn't update my BIOS if everything of fine, but is it worth it to see if I get any kind of performance increase?

One thing that confused me - my laptop is running BIOS version 2.11, dated Date 11/05/2012. But when I look at the downloads of BIOS on the Acer site for this laptop (I used the serial number of my laptop to search for drivers) there is no version 2.11.

    There is 2.09, 2.15, 2.17 and 2.18.

Is there a chance that my laptop could be running a BIOS that is not designed for him? Crazy, I know, but I don't see why it would not be a 2.11 on the download page. Also means "not for upgrades" next to some of the listed BIOS?

    Thanks for any information.

    Alex

a version of BIOS is missing from the support Web site, doesn't mean anything.

they probably made a quick update V2.15 and it wasn't worth it to publish V2.11

(not for upgrades) means that only laptops with windows factory OS 8.x can upgrade to this version; those who have windows 7 can not do.

If you need it, you can be directly updated to V2.18

  • Equium L350D - 11 d - I should update the BIOS?

A month ago I bought a "reworked factory" L350D - 11 d and I am pleased with it. I couldn't have guessed that it was not new, and it works perfectly, I would say.

I just got a Toshiba Tempro application to download and install an update of the BIOS - it:
    [THIS HTTP://UK.COMPUTERS.TOSHIBA-EUROPE.COM/INNOVATION/DOWNLOAD_DRIVER_DETAILS.JSP?ID=63134&OSID=-1&OSBUILD=6000&OSBITSIZE=32&DRIVERLANGUAGE=42&SOUR = TEMPRO & LNG = 1]
but I am concerned about a number of things. I should add that I used laptop computers for years but I am not particularly well informed on the technical level.

    1. the faq on updates BIOS says that the laptop must be in mode 'start-up', not 'repeat mode '. I don't know what are these modes, and a few technically competent guys which I asked don't know either. Can someone enlighten me please?

2 that the technically competent guy said was update the BIOS was fraught with peril, and I could end up with an unusable machine. Is this really so? If this is the case, then I don't understand why Toshiba blithely ask customers to do. But as the update doesn't seem to be a solution, but simply provides unspecified 'increased functionality', and I've had my laptop a month and it works perfectly, is there any point to take the risk?

    3. the update was published October 9, 2008, and that I only bought my laptop at the end of January is it reasonable to assume that the resumption of the factory included a BIOS loading which included the updated? If there is, then I don't have a dilemma to worry! Is there a way to know this?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello!

First a question: you have a problem with your laptop?

If you don t have a problem with your laptop you should not update the BIOS or change anything on the system configuration and software.
Never touch a running system! ;)

Do not update BIOS if TEMPRO said. For example I only update my BIOS if I have a problem with it, but normally you should not do this.

  • Time to update the BIOS and firmware of remote management?

I'll put up a 'new' ThinkServer RD630 (2954A6U). It was purchased for a project that never happened, and we are now dry and reuse to replace an old Office Server. The current firmware versions are:

    • BIOS: 2.05
    • ME: 2.1.5.73
    • BMC 1.7
    • IPMI 2.0

Page 61 of the User Guide ThinkServer says, "update the BIOS on your server only if the new BIOS version specifically solves a problem you have. We don't recommend updates to the BIOS for servers that do not need. [...]"

As far as I know, we have no problems. The system starts fine and runs Windows Server 2012 well enough.

    HERE'S MY QUESTION:

Should I update the BIOS and firmware IMM (remote management) to the current version? Are there hidden problems, security issues or other concerns that it is worth?

Other indicators of initial configuration that you can share with a new admin would be much appreciated, too! Thank you.

With the help of the Lenovo Support, I was able to fix my problem where I couldn't get to the menu of the BIOS of the 630 RD (in F1) and all I saw was a cursor on the screen. I describe the procedure in detail here:

    https://forums.Lenovo.com/T5/ThinkServer-rack-mounted/BIOS-settings-blank-with-cursor-after-BIOS-UPD...

Thank you to all those who commented above and especially to those who have sent me suggestions via PMs.

    Hello

I just downloaded and installed the latest driver for satellite 1000 Z2 graphics card which is Intel(r) 82830M chipset Driver revision: 6.14.10.3889. However, it does not work.

I wonder if I should update my BIOS first. Thank you

    Hello

It s always a good idea to update the BIOS. Thus, it would be the best you try the BIOS updated and then reinstall the graphics card driver. You can also (if it isn't already) check www.intel.com and download the drivers from there, they are sometimes more up-to-date than the drivers of toshiba. :)

Please give some comments if the installation of the graphics card took place after the BIOS update.

  • HP Notebook X7W81UA #ABA: HP BIOS recommended update: should I update?

Hey guys. I just bought a new PC for the school and the HP Support Assistant program recommends an update the BIOS. Now, I know that the update is available, but I also know that you should only update in general if there is a problem as the BIOS update is risky if not done correctly.

Now since is a recommended update, I tried the update and there not twice. I don't want to keep taking chances to spoil a whole new machine just for an update which may even not been necessary in the first instance.

What I would like to know what exactly this release Add/fix on this machine? I already searched the Internet but have failed to find a description for this particular update. If someone could please take a look at the attached screen shot and let me know what this update is for, I would be very grateful. At least then I could make an informed decision about the weather or not, I will try again this update.

  • Compaq Presario CQ71-320SA: failure of the update of the BIOS via Support Assistant / should I update anyway?

This morning I found that my laptop had not finished closing 8 hours ago. I stopped by pressing the button Off for 6 seconds and restarted. I then looked a likely cause and saw that a BIOS problem was probably the cause.

I'm went to the site of HP support & with information about http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c00007682, I followed step 1 and I saw that my BIOS is F.11 21/08/2009.

Support site told me that I need F.11Rev1/20/10/2014. I installed, rebooted and saw that he had failed.

What's worse, is that the program Insyde update it says that the 2009 version is updated - see below.

    Hello

You can manually update the BIOS for your laptop by downloading from the link below:

The current version available is F.23

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp51501-52000/sp51527.exe

Once the download is complete, double-click the downloaded file and follow the instructions on the screen.

You will notice may-continuous display blank for a few seconds, which is quite normal. Once the update is actually the device automatically restarts.

Note to back up your data before performing the update. Also have your adapter connected to the laptop.

  • Should I update to 1.23 BIOS?

I'm still under 1.16 now and it seems fine. I wonder if I'm missing something or if the new BIOS is worth going to.

    Anyone using a new?

Can I go back to 1.16 in if I want to?

    Thank you

In General, if your SL works fine, no need to Flash a new BIOS.  However, you should read the Readme because they contain what has changed in more recent versions.  You can find the Readme in BIOS 1.23 here.  Scroll down to "Version Information" and "Summary of Changes" for more information.  If you are affected by these changes, and then update the BIOS.

Yes you can go back to 1.16, if necessary, simply download the flash BIOS 1.16 file and install that as you would update any other BIOS; It replaces any previous BIOS.

I must say that flashing the BIOS is potentially dangerous for your laptop, a laptop also.  If something goes wrong and your BIOS is corrupted and you can not start, then you will need to buy spare parts, because he's dead.  While flashing the BIOS if you really must.

And Yes, I use 1.23 right now as I type this.

    -HpBiosUpdate32.efi

    -HpBiosUpdate32.s09

    -HpBiosUpdate32.sig

my current version of bios is f. 08

    I did a cut above.

After looking at the appropriate file you downloaded, it says this:

    "Prerequisites .
-Microsoft .NET 2.0 is required. UEFI and Custom Imaging - the HP BIOS update must be run from a FAT or FAT32, partition with a volume of the "HP_TOOLS" name This Installer gives you the option to install on the hard disk (HDD) or USB. If you install on the HARD disk and the HP_TOOLS partition is not present, Setup prompts to create the HP_TOOLS partition. If you install on a USB key, Setup renames the partition on the USB in HP_TOOLS. If you use a custom image, you can create the HP_TOOLS partition manually with the type FAT32 and that the volume HP_TOOLS name. ATTENTION:-the UEFI system partition is not protected and can be removed. -Backup of the computer by using the complete PC Backup feature of Microsoft Windows Vista does not save the UEFI system partition. For these reasons, HP recommends that you place no additional data on the UEFI system partition. Because the partition is not backed up, corruption or failure of the partition will result in the loss of all data on the partition, as well as the loss of UEFI functionality. "For more information, visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup"

There is little documentation on how to use it, but a Member here figured it out.

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/operating-systems-and-software/envy-14-system-recovery-doesn-t-work-with-latest-BIOS/m-p/328684/highlight/false#M45165

    using Windows 7:
Just plug in the USB key and then run the SPnnnnn.exe BIOS file downloaded from the Web site drivers HP.
Assuming that the USB is configured correctly (see below), Setup the BIOS sees the HP_TOOLS partition on the USB, copy of the BIOS and its file signature on the USB key, then run Setup winflash. The system BIOS detects the USB and the partition HP_TOOLS and the BIOS is magically updated.
I put in place a new USB key as follows:
1 rename the partition HP_TOOLS from the hard drive to something different like HP_TOOLSbak
    2. Plug the USB
    3. Download and run the utility to update the BIOS (not the BIOS, still) drivers HP support page.
    4. Select the option to install to a USB
    5. Select the option to create the partition HP_TOOLS
    6. The reader should now be formatted as HP_TOOLS with a record of Hewlett-Packard containing BIOS and BIOSUpdate records. The BIOS folder contains empty current, news and previous records.
7 download and run the HP System Diagnostics (UEFI) MS drivers HP support page
    8. Select the option to install on a USB key. This will create a SystemDiags folder under the Hewlett-Packard folder
    9. Download and run the HP Notebook System BIOS update for the HP support page drivers, given that the USB is correctly tagged it will install the update of the bios on the USB drive
10, we have to end up with a HP_TOOLS partition on the USB drive identical to the one that you removed from the hard drive.
Once you have configured the USB drive, you can upgrade to other versions of BIOS (most recent or oldest) using this drive, as I mentioned above: just plug in the USB and then download and run the BIOS Setup program.

Having said that I'm not sure of what you do, once you boot the USB drive.

  • Satellite Pro A120: Need to update the BIOS after upgrade CPU

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 and I need to update the bios of a change in cpu cause.
The laptop works very well, but for some reason any with the new processor fan runs always full.

A lot, I searched but found nothing.
The model number is PSAC1E-0QL04CG3 of ideas where I can find the bios?

    THX in advance,
    John

    Hello

First of all: update BIOS doesn t help you.
Why do you think that BIOS update should help reduce the activity of fan?

I guess that your new processor is faster. Right?
So it offers more performance and this leads to higher heat dissipation... so finally the CPU must be cooled and this can be done only if the cooling module would turn faster you agree with me?

By the way: the update of the BIOS is on the page of the Toshiba UE driver. Since the satellite Pro A120 is very old series, you will need to search for drivers in area Archive (Type of product-> Archive)

    Hi wilreb...

I think that the user henharas a bad experience with the BIOS updates.
I updated the BIOS many times and never had any problems...

I assume you mean on Tempro software... this software informs you about updates on the Toshiba page. It is not a recommendation for an update, but simply an alert that new updates has been published...

If your laptop is running properly, then update the BIOS is not really necessary...
You must follow these tips; never change a running system ;)

In any case, after the update of the BIOS shouldn't take too long and if she has completed, you should see the new version in the BIOS settings...
