significant regression of scrolling performance in firefox 15

I immediately noticed a significant regression in performance after reclassification 14.0.1 to 15. I've seen various comments on input.mozilla.org but it is now a week after the release and the latest firefox planning meeting made no mention of it (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Planning/2012-09-05), so I thought I would try here.

The first thing I noticed was slow and jerky scrolling a web page (the same as I watched immediately before the upgrade). I tried to reboot in safe mode, and while it improved things a bit, it was still significantly worse. I also tried with a clean profile with similar results. It was bad enough that I reinstalled 14.0.1 and everything went back to normal.

Now I'm back in 15 of the report, and I noticed that the performance is bad in other places as well.

  • scrolling in all web pages, even the simplest
  • scroll the tab bar is too slow and jerky
  • text selection is so slow that the highlight is half a second before the cursor
  • Repeat button is now half the speed of other applications
  • videos YouTube fall of executives in all directions, and WindowServer is high user CPU during playback

I will return on 14 still at the moment, but if you want me to try anything in 15 I can do. I am a developer, but have no experience with ff, so do not know what to try next.

I have some information to the report that I made a discovery. Regression mentioned above in 15.0.1 is almost eliminated by changing the effects of transparency on the iTerm.app I have also installed. To be more precise, with a "large RADIUS blur" on a window open iTerm (even so completely hidden by FF) the scrolling etc. in FF performance are terrible. If I shorten the iTerm window, or disable the effect of "fuzzy" or exit iTerm, invert to acceptable levels.

Now I'm changing all iTerm stuff when I upgraded FF 14 to 15. In other words, 14 FF was happy to run along the coast with the effects of transparency enabled iTerm.

So clearly that something has changed in 15 FF, maybe to do with graphic composition, which really throws graphics hardware/drivers/composers/etc. of the Macbook Air for a loop. While the problem could of course lie in other applications or the OS itself, I must reiterate that 14 FF worked fine then without changing anything else in the system, 15 FF does not. Maybe it's time to open a bugzilla topic and get a dev to chime?

  • East-audio/video or advertising photos in the tab 'not open' affect the performance of Firefox?

From what I understand the audio Forum leaking by a tab can be cut. This means that the most important activity such as periodic updates on a page to download advertisements could also affect Firefox performance even if the tab has not been clicked. Is this true?

Once the tab has been loaded, any video or audio active in this tab will have a negative impact on the performance of Firefox.

In the options, you can tell Firefox to not load the tab until it is selected, but once you select the tab for the first time, the site will remain responsible.

  • Poor performance of Firefox after you apply the latest Microsoft Updates (Win 7 x 64); all solutions?

Recently, I updated to Firefox 27 and noticed really horrible performance (Manager tasks indicates FF connecting a carrot, frequent "Firefox is not responding messages", even strikes in late development in the URL bar). It's on an Ideapad s205 (AMD E450 APU, Win 7 x 64, 8 GB RAM, SSD) who has always had pretty decent web browsing performance for a low end machine.

At first, I blamed FF because poor performance coincided with the update to version 27, but now I think that the first cause to be a recent Microsoft Update. The reason is that my wife has a laptop with a same low-end APU (APU C60, hard drive 5400 RPM, 4 GB of RAM, Win 7 x 64), and she was getting much better performance with FF27 until I applied a backlog of some 90 + updates. Now she suffers from the same poor performance I am and she is pretty p * ssed at home.

Interestingly, I have two WIn 7 x 64 Intel computers to office who have 27 FF and are fully patched, and performance are very good. Maybe this problem is specific to AMD APU.

Any thoughts? I tried to turn off the backend Azure with some comments in this forum, but makes little or no difference.

  • Recently upgraded to the new version of Firefox and after a Windows system restore was performed today Firefox is therefore more accessible (by clicking on icon Firefox results in nothing) what can I do?

After System Restore Mozilla Firefox icon is still on the screen but now when I click on the Firefox icon does not open. I have a number of bookmarks saved I'd perfer not to lose - is there anyway I can restore Firefox without losing bookmarks?

Using the system restore can cause your installation of Firefox get corrupted because not all files are restored, so be careful to do a system restore.

Do a cleaning (re) install and delete the folder of the program Firefox (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.

Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a relocation, but make sure that you do not select delete data of a personal nature if you uninstall Firefox.

Save the history won't be a significant impact in the performance of Firefox in modern computers. But if you are affected by problems of performance because of the history, see this support article.

To disable the history record, go in Tools > Options > privacy > conservation rules: and set it to never remember history not or use the custom settings for history (and if you want to configure).

  • Need help to kill the nasty Firefox virus / adware

One of the computers in my office has a nasty Firefox virus / adware. Only Firefox is affected, Chrome and IE agree. Get lots of pop-up ads even if pop-up blocking is enabled. Many pictures of non-standard advertising appear on most web pages. Hyperlinks show more pop ups advertising when you hover over some of them. Performance of Firefox is very slow. When I use 'Copy link location' on links and pop-ups, they each have a base URL different - too many to try to block via firewall or virus software. Anti-virus AVG, Malwarebytes scan, AdwCleaner, HitmanPro all come clean. All the Firefox plugins and extensions are disabled. Firefox reset does not solve it. Uninstall/reinstall of Firefox is. CCleaner ran on the files and the registry. None of the suspicious programs appear in the Panel. Ran antivirus, CCleaner, Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner, once again, all in safe mode. No joy.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Rob

Occasionally, malware can change settings in the Firefox program files. To address this problem:

    Clean reinstall it

We use this name, but it is not about the deletion of your settings, this is to ensure that program files are clean. As described below, this process does not disrupt your existing settings. Don't uninstall NOT Firefox, that does not need.

    (1) download a fresh Installer for Firefox 37.0 of https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ in an ideal location. (Scroll down your preferred language).

    (2) close Firefox (if applicable).

    (3) to rename the program folder

    (Windows 64-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

    (Windows 32-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

    (4) run the installer you downloaded in the #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

    Any difference?

Note: Some plugins can only exist in this OldFirefox file. If it is missing something essential, present in these files:

    • \OldFirefox\Plugins
    • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins
  • Performance hardware accelerator activation issues

Hi, I recently had a performance problem when turning on the gas.

It was the first time running on this mode accelerated but when closed, then reopened, significantly degraded performance. I tested on Firefox and Chrome. My temporary solution is to disable hardware accelerator, but it still isn't close to where it was in the previous version.

I don't know if you can reproduce the problem.

So it's better; more like back to normal as before.

    Things I've tried: (in order)

    Run Firefox 64-bit

    Uninstall Flash Player NPAPI

    Reinstall Flash Player NPAPI

    It is fixed.

I don't know how it was fixed, but uninstalling NPAPI and put it back, set everything to me (problem of cache & performance on Firefox)

  • Firefox very slow while Chrome is fast

    Hi all

Spin LMDE 2, totally updated and using Firefox 50.0.2 Firefox is really very slow for some time now - it is so slow to start, slow to scroll a page even with one tab open and takes a minute to type a full word. I tried to start Firefox in safe mode, completely deleting my user profile and start fresh, use "apt - get remove - purge" and then reinstalling firefox... and still stupidly slow. Chrome is fast, quick start, can run 20 + tabs without a slowdown in performance, no problem at all.

And my laptop is not in rest - it is 3 years old, has a processor i7, 8 GB of RAM and a Quadro video card. I have also run 2 LMDE and all apps from a 256 GB SSD card. The directory is on a 500 GB SATA hard drive, however. So I expect you to improve the performance of Firefox, so there must be something wrong - I would really appreciate if someone could give me some guidance as to what could be the problem please?

    Hello

Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you delete your Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not delete your Firefox profile (such as bookmarks and passwords) data, since this information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, follow these steps: Note: you can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from mozilla.org office (or choose the download for your operating system and language on this page) and save the file to install it on your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (or open the Firefox menu and click on the button close ).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

More information on the resettlement of Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use an uninstaller to third parties as part of this process. This could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and passwords saved. They can be retrieved easily unless they have been backed up on an external device! See back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox.

Please report to say if this helped you!

    Thank you.
