Size HDD 4.1.0 ESXi matters

Hello

I have a HP ProLiant ML150 G6 2 warehouses with the two of them to 931,25 GB.  I'm having issues, do a hard drive inside a small business 2011 VM server size largest them 256 GB.  Currently, this system has a 200 GB drive for the exchange server and the operating system.  The second disc is 256 GB for shared folders.  I wish I could enlarge readers since they are the two full 90%.  I'm not afraid to add another drive from the data store, but I wish it were 500 GB instead of 256 GB.  Also I'm upgrading in the near future, this machine to ESX1 5.x.  If this update will fix the problem of size of hard drive that I have so I'll do it sooner then later.

I also use the new backup version of PhD.  I'm not able to save the second disc with PHD because it is listed as a drive (persistent) independent.  Is that what I can change this way so I can save this drive also.  I also believe that this is because the size of the hard disk max I have is 256 GB and backup is almost 375 GB if I do two disks.

No, no, unless something unexpected happens (in any case, a backup is always a good idea).

When you upgrade your host (after checking the hardware is supported for ESXi 5.x) interactively using the CD, select 'upgrade, keep VMFS'. This will only enhance the operating system. Once the upgrade of power on the host and click on the "upgrade to VMFS5... "link for the data store.

  • removal of large size of virtual machine snapshot, esxi 4.0.0 (208167)

    Dear Experts,

I am looking for assistance before you do this step, remove the snapshot of a virtual machine (NNMi-Test), 100 GB thick disk has been assigned to this virtual machine when it is created. After the installation of the operating system, we took a snapshot. Explained user had to test something on this one and we wanted as if during the tests of some problem occur due to the facilities at least that we can return to the fresh install of OS snapshot.

After that we missed by mistake that we had seen on this machine. Now I want to delete this single snapshot, but its size is now KB 26,182,660. The current state of the machine, we want to keep, it's OK with us.

I can proceed without fear of deleting, I should say 'remove all' OR 'delete '. Image is attached here with. This machine is the "EVAstorage2" data store and 193 GB is free on this subject.

There is another virtual host below computers run on it, I also need help with clichés:

-machine virtual (NNMi) , assigned to 150 GB thick disk, also have same instant problem has been created and it is now 7.7 GB,.

This machine is on "EVAstorage1" and is 221GB free space

-virtual machine (Bukhari), assigned thick 150 GB, also named snapshot after operating system installation and size soft

this wink, shot is now showing only 128GB

I have attached the images of the three machines I need assistance for: NNMi-Test, NNMi Bukhari

Please note that the Esxi is 4.0.0 (208167)

Please help me and require further details before giving an answer to me, please ask me. Also, keep in mind there are also other virtual machines on the same 'EVAstorage1' and 'EVAstorage2' data with disk available warehouses thin and little with thick disk.

    Kind regards

    Jocelyn

The GUI seems to check the hard of the last snapshot file in the chain to see if it contains an entry "ddb.thinProvisioned". Because this entry is present in the hard disk basic GUI file guess a thick disc put into service.

I suggest that you remove the snasphot of a single virtual machine at the same time and that after opening hours. Please make sure that there are no application backup or other task that would try to create a snapshot of this machine that performs the erase process.

I wouldn't worry too much about the size of the snapshot or any performance impact, just be patient and wait as the deletion process at the end (which could take a while).

The maximum required temporarily on the disk with a single snapshot is about the size of the snapshot itself more space for a snapshot of assistance, which contains changes to the virtual machine, while the removal is underway.

  • Custom partition sizes and memory system for ESXi 4.1

With ESX 4.0, I would customize my partitions during the installation (see below). With ESXi 4.1 GUI there is no option to customize the scores.

Now is the best practice to take default values? If not, what are the ESXi 4.1 recommended sizes of partition and how do you custtomize them?

What memory system. In the past, I would rise to 800MB (1/2 of the swap partition). ESXi 4.1 design requires no it more? I can't change that vcenter as I could before.

Who wish to understand best practice in this version build information.

    root (/) 5120

    swap 1600

    var 4096

    Home 2048

    opt 2048

    tmp 2048

You cannot change the size of the partition. If this is embedded (installed to USB) then ESXi will use total 1 GB. In the case of installation (installation on a hard drive) ESXi will use 1 GB and create a separate partition from scratch 4 GB.

  • Update size of HDD for old Compaq Presario V5000

I have a Compaq Presario V5000 older n/p ET826UA #ABA that uses a Toshiba MK8025GAS 80 GB hard drive. The laptop is in perfect condition and I'm still very happy with it except disk space HARD is a bit cramped these days.

Could someone offer manufacturer part numbers that are compatible with this laptop that would allow me to increase the storage space of HARD drive to something more as big as in the range of 250-320 GB? I'm hoping to find something of surplus for a reasonable price.

I found online of many HARD drives that seem to agree, but have doubts about the requirements of the serial interface. The OEM drive is spec'd like an ATA-6 but was not sure if a disk ATA-7 or 8 - ATA / SATA-8 would be backward compatible for this older HD laptop chipset.

The other question is what is the largest size HDD I can go to without having to change the BIOS. Any help on these questions would be appreciated.

    THX

    Sparky

It's an IDE (PATA) hard drive. The Radeon Xpress 200 M chipset will support hard drives LBA that is 160 GB or more if you are only constrained by the market and not by the material. However, the market is a constraint as the price for the IDE drives laptop received top ridiculous as supply decreases. I suggest a seller on eBay with solid feedback. You will have difficulty finding something bigger than a 320 gig and more chance to find 160 gig drives. 500 gig PATA drives have been made, but no one is loose Cup of them. ATA - 6 is also fast had real IDE drives. Make sure that you do not get a SATA drive more modern with plastic connectors. Your will have a double row of pins in brass for the connection. You can speed things up a bit by finding at least a 5400 RPM spin speed. Yours is 4200 that is very pokey according to current standards. If you play your cards right there's even a 7200 RPM PATA drives to circulate there.

    Just a suggestion.

  • Maximum size of the VMDK file we can assign during the P2V?

    Hello.

We conduct P2V for a server physical and would like to address one of the disk for P2V.

Rather than extend the VMDK disk in the future, we would like to extend during P2V.  Given that VMDK file maximum size is 2 TB for ESXi host, we can assign 2 TB for this VMDK file OR there is a recommended maximum size to use?

    Thank you

I have myself yet, but I guess you should be able to assign the maximum size of virtual disk, depending on the block size of the data store (for ESXi versions before the 5.x/VMFS-5). That said, I suggest that you don't assign it more than 2 032 GB in order to create snapshots for this virtual disk (see "calculates the time system required by the snapshot files" at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012384)

  • How big boot esxi drive should be?

I can't be install on a HP Server with a SD Reader - it seems like the SD drive is perhaps of 4 GB or more. Is there an optimal size for a boot drive ESXi?

I heard that the boot drive must be large enough for some sort of file temp - temp vm, or esxi temp, or temp vmotion or something like that.

    What is recommended for that?

You can configure the scratch location in different ways. See http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1033696 for more details.

Per quanto gli HP che hai indicated if, io ho knew free ESXi 4.1 150 G6, ovviamente UN is he controller no e in HCL no lo vedrai may, my be usi it solo server by running delle machines virtual e pensi di usare storage iscsi external como uno he qnap, ridondanza sui brain dell'ESXi becomes meno critica.

Unica cosa che cambia, alla fine, tra una macchina in HCL o no, e he supporto ufficiale di vmware. My is ESXi free non avresti installi he supporto in ogni caso, quindi non vedo the difference.

  • Maximum size of VMDK

    Guy

I know that size max VMDK is on ESXi 4.1 is 2 TB... my question is if I have a virtual machine that has 100 GB OS, but 4 additional VMDK attached to this virtual machine, and each is 2 TB VMDK?

Or a virtual machine may contain not more than 1 to VMDK?

    Please specify it. Thank you.

.. and don't forget that the max is based on a single HARD drive presented to the customer, not a total of all hard drives present.

  • Increase in the size of block of the local data store

I tried from Googling and it involves a lot of things from the command line and seems to be different ways of doing.

They say that I need to format the drive again and specify a block size.  But isn't ESXi installed on the same partition? If I reformat it, it won't get rid of the ESXi software?

Where can I get easy step by step instructions on how to do this?

If you have no data, go to Configuration / Storage and remove the existing data store.

    Then choose Add datastore.

  • RAID 1 @ Local controllers

Is it possible to use RAID 1 controllers and detect and HDD and SSD in ESXi and use them in groups of disks VSAN?

If you want to place a mirror RAID-1 around 2 SSD and present it to VSAN in a single volume for cache.

While this can be done, there are a few considerations:

    1. cost. When you size it and pull your VSAN environment, you will have to double the cache requirements

    2. operational overhead. Volumes using RAID masks the fact that there is an SSD, you need to change the markup each volume as an SSD. In addition, when it comes to replacement of an SSD, you have many more steps to follow rather than disconnect the SSD drive and connect a new. Finally, the RAID volumes tend to hide his SMART stats, then you won't be able to query features like leveling of wear of the ESXi unless you have some special plugins RAID controller vendor. Finally, I do not think that you will be able to perform operations such as the flashing LEDs for easy identification, but again, this could be specific seller.

These are the things you have to weigh up if you want to mirror SSD, and generally why we encourage it.
