  In Skype:

  Options, general, choose Style: Cleanlooks, apply. Exit Skype.

  In the Ubuntu desktop:

  Press ALT - F2 and type in qt4-qtconfig, click on run (it's probably in a menu, but I don't know where to look for it)

  In the appearance tab, select Style GUI: Cleanlooks

  You see a preview of the Cleanlooks Windows. This does not change the style of your office, but only for applications that use Cleanlooks.

  Click file, save.

  The problem disappeared after a reboot - so I suppose the FF problem was somehow linked with use of the memory to the hibernation.

  I'm unable to open:

  -Safari

  -App Store

  -Launch Skype

  -Launch Flash Player

  Try restarting your Mac in safe mode:

  -Stop your Mac

  -Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the power button

  -Just after you hear the startup tone, press in and hold the SHIFT key

  -Release the SHIFT key when you see a gray Apple sign and the progress under this sign bar

  -Once you see office, start a scan Disk Utility to detect and repair file system errors (remember to choose your primary hard drive)

  -Click on the disc to check, then, if requested to solve the problems on the repair disk

  -After that click on verify disk permissions, and then click Repair disk permissions

  -Once the process is complete, stop your Mac and turn it on again after 30 seconds

• Had to reinstall Windows and now Skype won't let me open a session.

  So the SSD, I had 10 installed windows on seems to be dead (the PC crashed and then wouldn't start on the correct hard drive. The hard drive also would not put in evidence in the BIOS any SATA port I used), then I reinstalled since on a backup drive (after cleaning it of course). Everything else works fine, 0 connection problems, got all my main programs installed and works again. But it seems that no matter what I try, the Skype app won't let me log on.

  This is the latest version, and I'm running IE11. I tried to reinstall, turn off the firewall, remove the file "shared.xml", removal of temporary internet files on IE... None of this fixed it. I also tried to create a new account from microsoft and it still wouldn't let me connect.

  Other ideas are appreciated.

  Thanks for your reply, but it turns out that all I had to do was to reset my router. I feel so stupid, it's usually one of the first things I do when troubleshooting connection problems - it just crossed your mind for any reason any.   Beside that, I strongly recommend to update your installation of Windows 8 to version 8.1. Windows 8 operating system really is nonsense and is no longer supported by Microsoft.
