  • Etrecheck results, slow iMac

My computer is slow, and after having poking around, I see that Etrecheck could help diagnose the problem. I ran the program but I don't know what mean results. I hope that someone more experienced will know how to interpret and direct me in the right direction. I also ran the Apple Hardware Test and came with a very clear.

I am concerned about MacKeeper, isn't this adware / malware?

2 reasons that I see at a single glance, you have installed MacKeeper Malware, did the uninstall instructions and uninstall. Also, your Crashplan backup system is designed for continuous operation and is known to make slow systems. I would not recommend the use of this system or this time by backup only when you are not using the computer. Many users on these forums use local HD and Time Machine and then another external hard drive to create a clone of their system bootable using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper.

Finally, you have purchased a basic applications iMac system and driving high powered (using resources). Type to buy a scooter 10HP and he expects to go to commute 250 miles a day at 80 mph. It will simply not do!

  • extremely slow iMac

My late-2012, iMac 27 "is very slow. This is macOS Sierra crossing an external, thunderbolt SSD drive. It was not long before, but since the installation of the new operating system, the performance is terrible. For those of you who might argue that having an external SSD as drive of the master computer probably the origin of the problem, remember that the computer worked perfectly well at least a year like this.

I enclose below two screenshots with the record of my iMac. I also ran EtreCheck and I enclose the report below.

I would be really grateful if you could help me solve the problem. My MacBook Pro mid-2009 (2, 66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB of RAM, internal SSD) is much faster than my iMac that makes no sense to me.

    EtreCheck version: 3.0.4 (308)

Uninstall the malware CleanMyMac you installed according to the instructions of developers. Then restart in Mode safe mode then restart normally and test. Mac OS requires no cleaning, antivirus or ANY third party maintenance apps to function well. If simply left alone and updated most Macs will work well for years.

  • Samsung SSD500 on very slow iMac

    10.11.4 iMac

I have the last 5K 27 "iMac with a Fusion drive. Blackmagic Disk Speed Test shows > 300 MB/sec in writing and > 800 MB / sec in reading.

I also have a Samsung SSD EVO 850 500 GB which is connected to the iMac via USB. Blackmagic shows that around 40 MB read/write.

I have the impression that USB 3.0 supports the higher transfer rate. So what could be the reason for the slow speed?

    Thank you.

a fusion drive is just a combination small ssd as a hidden drive and a standard hard drive at low rpm.

on the USB connection for the external USB samung, USB slowing the SSD because its old data transfer protocol, is the reason why what USB 3.1 is being such a jerk.  It has the ability to not get stuck on the transfer of files as a standard usb port.  Now if the SSD was hooked by the thunderbolt port you would see an amount of data more fast transfer rates.

  • very slow iMac

    Hello

My iMac is slower and slower. From the beginning, he was already working in the 'return' for several minutes before I can even move the mouse. But also to open an application or a program, it takes forever. I downloaded etrecheck that cracks in the community have some information to start. I don't really understand what all these codes are for. I am a simple user. I bought a Mac because I was told that it's very user-friendly. But sometimes I have trouble with the easier tasks (manage my photos folders or move my iTunes music to a Samsung phone...).

Can someone help me to have my iMac as fast as it was at the beginning? Thank you.

You have 3 major problems. First is you have com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3 installed, which is considered to be malware and should be uninstalled. Contact the developer for instructiosn on how to uninstall. OS X does NOT have any cleaning, anti-virus or third party maintenance utilities! OS X is extremely elegant and safe and will work well for years if kept up-to-date and another one left.

Problem # 2 is that you have com.intego.virusbarrierplus installed, refer to my first paragraph!

The second major problem is that your system is starved of RAM. While 4 GB RAM had a lot of RAM when Snow Leopard 10.6.x was installed on your computer, it is considered a bare minimum with El Capitan. I would first of all be reacting to problems #1 and 2 and then see how the machine works. If performance does improve not then consider the upgrade of RAM.

  • very slow iMac, running el Capitan

My iMac has been gradually slow down over the months. I thought that the update to el Capitan would have helped, but it didn't - but I don't think he's done worse.  Every thing I do on the Mac is slow. When I opened the window of the application of the sidebar, it takes several seconds to draw all icons. Opening of Firefox or Safari takes minutes and moving between tabs is almost impossible.

I repaired disk permissions, zap my PRAM, reset the SMC and booted in safe mode and Open firefox has a little faster but the opening request file has been slower. Perhaps. It was probably the same substantially.

I have an iMac running 10.11.4, with Intel core i5 2.7 GHz, 8GM memory and 470 GB free on the hard drive. Activity monitor shows that the activity monitor using most of the CPU (1.6%) with Firefox on the same.

I am really frustrated with this. I thought my computer was pretty new, but can I do? Thanks for any help.

Because it seems as popular to do something, I have downloaded and run Etrecheck. Pasted below results. Thanks to all those who can help you.

It says right in the report. Your hard drive is dying. You need to replace it immediately. A dead hard drive makes the system VERY slow and gives the beach balls frequent because the disc is a failure and the operating system is waiting to read things. It can be very frustrating.

I see that you have the time Machine; If all goes well, there is a recent backup. I wouldn't crash my most recent backups as you have damaged data on your drive.

Install or reinstall OS X from scratch

Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

    HD recovery start:

Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.

    Erase the drive:

    1. select in the main menu disk utility and click on the continue button.

    2. once the charges of THE select your boot volume (usually Macintosh HD) in the

list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of THE.

    3. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). If necessary, click

Security and button all the option data from scratch in a single pass. Click

the clear button and wait until the process is complete.

He is not surprised OS X turns bad. You have installed the malware CleanMyMac 3. Immediately uninstall and re - run the EtreCheck report to see if it disappeared completely. Also, your computer is lack of RAM. You machine can accommodate up to 6 GB of RAM, you have 3 GB which is located just above the bare to El Capitan. Increase the RAM using a reliable source critical (direct purchase) or OWC (www.macsales.com).

OS X does not have any cleaning, anti-virus or third party maintenance utilities!

Memory - you have only 4 GB of RAM and it is certainly causing your beach balling.

You have 2 spare slots - put in as much memory as you can afford.

iMAC just 3 years (decent specifications)

Applications of gel even with just the browser in use.  8 GB of RAM seem to be enough...  Even CleanMyMac3 does not solve the problem...

    The report states:

    Macintosh HD (disk0s2) /: 999,35 go-go (775,69 free) - 111 errors

    Drive failure!

This means that your HD needs to be replaced. Your report also indicates that you do not have a Time Machine backup, before you do ANYTHING backup computer while you can still use an external HD. You can use Time Machine ( use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support ) or you can use an application such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to create a bootable clone.

You have installed CleanMyMac3 which is considered to be Malware! After backing up your computer, contact the developers of CMM and ask for instructions on how to uninstall the App. Follow the instructions to the letter and uninstall applications. Then run an another report EtreCheck and carefully read any supporting the MWC.

Your report indicates you have installed adware. After you've had the HD replaced (no you should not do it yourself), restore your backup and then follow the instructions to stop advertising windows pop-up and adware in Safari - Apple Support to remove the adware you have installed.

In short, your computer is a mess.

Go forward, NEVER install antivirus or cleaning apps or utilities maintenance party. At are not necessarily the best, and at worst can create a mess of your system. If you follow these simple rules, your system must be running reliable for years:

  • My 2013 iMac 27 inch runs very slowly

My iMac (27-inch, late 2013, with a 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 processor) has been gradually slowing down for a while. I get the dreaded beach ball a lot, sometimes by what seems to be really simple things. Today I left it on when running only Safari. I woke up, I got a message from the system that I was running on the memory of the application and must force quit some applications. With 24 GB RAM available, which didn't make sense to me (I had recently installed 16 GB of RAM (2 x 8) OWC in addition to the original 8 GB (2 x 4), for a total of 24 GB of memory).

I am running OS X El Capitan (10.11.2). I think I can inadvertently installed some malicious programs. AppleCare is still in force.

As conditions gradually got worse ovewr the past few months, I tried:

    • Drive 4 Pulse, indicating, I had critical hardware issues, but I never got their thing Bootwell to work, even with the help of their support team. They recommended that replace the hard drive.
    • Apple support. Thay suggested I run Apple Diagnostics, but when he finds nothing wrong, they couldn't do anything. At the time it wasn't that bad and I didn't really drag a 27-inch iMac down to the Genius Bar for help.
    • SpeedTools Utilities Pro. It seemed easier to use than driving impulses. Running a live scan, he finds 54 501 bad sectors on my hard drive of 1 TB. But still, nothing showed on Apple Diagnostics.

After watching a few discussions re slow iMacs support group today, I learned EtreCheck, downloaded and ran a report. I'll post as a suite.

My memory really once again, so I am posting this today.

"Clean apps" or "speed boost" utility are scams, so I would remove such software.

Please post this report EtreCheck when you get a chance if anyone can help identify a culprit for the slow downs.

  • Mac leg?

Since the installation of the 2016-001 security update both my iMac (27 "and 21") became quite slow, and after entering a search term in Safari, nothing seems to happen. I also get Mac Paw ads claiming to fix a slow iMac. Is it true in this and is it safe to try? My hard drives are between half and three quarters full.

    [OS X end 10.10.5, 2013]

You have probably installed adware with something else that you recently installed.

You can follow Apple instruction manual for the removal of adware, or use the free automatic tool, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac.

It is noted that the instructions for manual removal of Apple are usually outdated. Sometimes much obsolete. It depends on when Apple finally does something with their instructions page. If you prefer to manually remove the adware on your system, you can find many more instructions security update Mac adware deletion page.

The adware (if it exists) is sometimes very easy to remove yourself. Open Safari Preferences and then click the Extensions tab disable anything, you don't recognize and remove it.

Don't submit any Mac software garbage CleanMyMac of leg of Mac, MacKeeper, MacCleanse or any other application that claims to clean or speed up your Mac. They are all the scamware.

  • Migration? or use iCloud Sync?

After 3 years with Mountain Lion this iMac came with, I intend to upgrade to El Capitan. I prefer to do a clean install to simply upgrade to OS X. My iMac has become a bit lazy late, and I think he deserves to start a new life, don't you think?

I did a test using a newly formatted laptop hard drive. Part of the installation of OS X, I used the Migration option (without migrating applications, which I intend to reinstall fees). Once I rebooted, it was such a pleasure to see my desktop look alike and to be able to use my Contacts, mail and Safari perfectly, as if I was still in ML. What a blessing!

But I understand that designates the Migration ALL movement to my "new computer" which probably also means a lot of "junk" that has accumulated over the past 3 years, the cause that is probably in my slow iMac... A friend suggested that I better leave iClouds alone to update my sync settings.

So I reformatted the laptop drive and did another test, this time the upgrade without the Migration option. Now, I have my Contacts, Safari has all my favorites, but my email software is bit messed up, does not show my old messages, but a lot of records, how my mail is saved to my library folder.

Seems to me that using Migration would make the process much easier update, but is it possible to use it selectively, only migrate my email data, for example?

    Thank you!

No migration assistant do not put on a lot of old junk from previous systems, just your own Junk (read users folder). Applications are updated and the old applications are replaced by new ones. This isn't what makes lazy. Unfortunately, run migration after the initial installation will result in your Mac create a new user account and this will present all kinds of headaches. If you plan to do, wipe the drive and start again.

If you want to know what may be what actually slow download and run EtreCheck, created by one of his own assistants here in CSA. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information
