slow iMac and beachballing

My iMac is slow and I get the beachball all the time.  Some of the apps freeze.  I can get some work, but it is terribly slow.  I deleted web history, etc and then downloaded and ran EtreCheck.  Can someone help me interpret the results?

EtreCheck version: 2.9.10 (261)

It says right in the report. Your hard drive is dying. You need to replace it immediately. A dead hard drive makes the system VERY slow and gives the beach balls frequent because the disc is a failure and the operating system is waiting to read things. It can be very frustrating.

I see that you have the time Machine; If all goes well, there is a recent backup. I wouldn't crash my most recent backups as you have damaged data on your drive.

    Macintosh HD (disk0s2) /: 999,35 go-go (775,69 free) - 111 errors

    Drive failure!

This means that your HD needs to be replaced. Your report also indicates that you do not have a Time Machine backup, before you do ANYTHING backup computer while you can still use an external HD. You can use Time Machine ( use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support ) or you can use an application such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to create a bootable clone.

You have installed CleanMyMac3 which is considered to be Malware! After backing up your computer, contact the developers of CMM and ask for instructions on how to uninstall the App. Follow the instructions to the letter and uninstall applications. Then run an another report EtreCheck and carefully read any supporting the MWC.

Your report indicates you have installed adware. After you've had the HD replaced (no you should not do it yourself), restore your backup and then follow the instructions to stop advertising windows pop-up and adware in Safari - Apple Support to remove the adware you have installed.

In short, your computer is a mess.

Go forward, NEVER install antivirus or cleaning apps or utilities maintenance party. At are not necessarily the best, and at worst can create a mess of your system. If you follow these simple rules, your system must be running reliable for years:

  • 10.11.4 slow start and performance.

Update caused 10.11.4 my iMac (27-inch, mid 2011) no start, after checking with an external start HD found no system errors, flawless HD, no failure of memory. Finally managed to boot into recovery and do an Internet re - install.

Now I can't boot how whether it's very very slow, at least 10 Minutes, then well that just doesn't seem seem to work it is horribly slow. I was hoping it was indexing, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The question seems to be double, very slow startup and very slow performance. The external HD boot was 10.11.3 and seemed to be doing OK, so I have to assume that the question is 10.11.4 as everything else has been validated. All the usual things were made, PRAM, permissions etc.

At this point I have nowhere to go. BTW, took me 15 minutes to get into this brief overview.

I had problems with Bluetooth, you see only not my speaker MegaBoom and Photo Booth says "No. Camera connected... so I has the following guidelines.

Downloaded and installed Mac OS 10.11.4 from scratch

    Then I reset the SMP:

Reset the SMC on Mac desktops

Follow these steps for iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro and Xserve.

    1. Stop the Mac.
    2. Unplug the power cord.
    3. Wait 15 seconds.
    4. Reconnect the power cord.
    5. Wait 5 seconds, then press the power button to turn on the Mac.

Reset the SMC a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro retina or the MacBook Pro with an internal non-removable battery

This is how to reset the SMC on most modern Mac laptops, which none have a removable battery:

    1. Stop your MacBook Air / MacBook Pro
    2. Plug the power adapter to the Mac
    3. On the MacBook / Pro keyboard, hold down the command + Option + shift and the power button at the same time
    4. All the keys and the power button of output at the same time - the little light on the MagSafe adapter can change colors briefly to indicate that the MSC has reset
    5. Start your Mac as usual

Keep in mind that by resetting the SMC you lose specific power settings, like the time he takes sleep a Mac and other customizations to the power settings. Not much, but if you have made many changes to your behavior of material you want to address things like behavior of sleep again.

Boot time after resetting a SMC machines can be a little longer that usual, it's normal.

Stop and start again, and this fixed everything for me...

  • New user with the iMac and MacBook Pro...

I just ordered Lightroom 3, and while I'm waiting for delivery, I did the research so that I set up correctly from the start.  My husband and I are amateur photographers, not professionals.  So, we have a lot of pictures, but not thousands.  I take most of the photos.  I do not use RAW, but sometimes my husband does.  We use Photoshop Elements 8 to edition and iPhoto to produce books, export to our iPad, etc..  We have 2 computers... an iMac and a MacBook Pro.   All the reading I've done, I think I should install the Lightroom Catalog to the shared drive on our iMac.  All photos that we can live on this share drive (when importing we can mark with our own name so that we can each make a collection of our own photos).  As I understand it, each of us could use our own space on the iMac's Lightroom to access this library shared, to make our own edits, etc.

First question... is what I said above correct and it seems like the best way to organize?

Second question... it is now quite easy to access my files from my MacBook on our home network bridge.  It will be easy to access files via Lightroom when they live on the iMac but I want to use the MacBook instead?

No help to you all, experts out there would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you, Cindy

Well, wireless will be /technically/ work. Because the wireless network connection simply provides a conduit through which is an extra layer of stuff system of sent files (probably AFP or SMBFS or something) for you give access to remote files and directories, you can see the performance is not acceptable.

Some people report performance ok with remote catalogues and managed files, but many have catalog locally, with the managed pictures on drive accessible via a protocol of remote files.  Despite this, I suspect that some of these people are connected via gigabit ethernet.

You will find that the network connection or the remote file system protocol may bring slow unreasonable things.

Another restriction is that, under the right circumstances, Lr will change behavior to prevent you from using it in network. I forgot the exact circumstances in which this happens (I think it was reported that in other threads). I remember that it is limited to the import dialog. It will probably cause problems for you since the paths you use will probably be impossible to distinguish from local paths, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

  • View the file encrypted on my iMac and iPhone

I have a file that contains sensitive data in what to be encrypted and password protected.

I need to read this file on my iMac and iPhone and also share this file with others who need it.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you

    -Mike

A PDF file can be encrypted and password protected. A Mac can view this file by using either a snippet or Acrobat Reader and devices such as iPhones can also view these protected PDF files.

  • I have a new iMac and I want to make a backup of my iPhone, I lost my dates of the will? because in this computer I have no backup I made before

    Hello

I bought an air iMac, and now I would like to make a backup of my iPhone on this computer.

but the question is, if I do not have the backup that I did before, it is possible that I lost my dates?

because the computer I had entered is not an iMac.

    Thank you

    Francesca

    Hello Francesca Montani,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

Congratulations on your new iMac! I understand from your message that you want to create a backfile to your iPhone 5 c, but are afraid of losing the data on it. I know how it is important for you to keep your data on your iPhone 5 c and to create a backup file for it.

When you plug your iPhone 5 c in your new iMac, iTunes should open. Your iPhone 5 c should also receive a message asking if you trust the computer. Go ahead and trust of the computer.

iTunes should display a page that says: Welcome to iTunes and you give 2 options. You want to choose the option to play up like new. Don't worry, it will not erase anything from your iPhone. The next page, you should see if the page summary of the iPhone. You should see a picture of an iPhone and a description.

In the middle of the right side, you should see a section called manually backup and restore. To create a backup file, select Back Up Now. This article has steps and a picture to help you create an iTunes up. I have also highlighted the steps below:

The backup of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

    iTunes

    1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer.
    2. If a message asks you to Trust This Computer or device password, follow the steps on the screen. If you have forgotten your password, get help.
    3. Select your iPad, iPhone or iPod when it appears in iTunes. If your device does not appear in iTunes, know what to do.
    4. If you want to save data of health and activity of your device iOS or Apple Watch, you must encrypt your backup: check the box called Encrypt [device] backup and create a memorable password.
Write down your password and store it somewhere safe, because there is no way to recover your backups iTunes without this password.
If you do not need to save your health data and activity, you can make a backup that is not encrypted. Just click Back Up Now.
    5. After the end of the process, you can see if your backup completed successfully in the iTunes preferences > devices. You should see the name of your device with the date and time that iTunes created the backup. If you encrypted your backup, you should also see next to the name of your device.

    Best regards

  • my iMac and paramedics have a bug

    iMac (end 2013) 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5;  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3;  El Capitan 10.11.5

I had big problems with iTunes for years; developed but many more issues with Apple and other applications, data "disappear." quiting apps; need to reboot, etc., so took the Mac in a service center that has deleted all the data; reinstalled OSx and restored the backup data.  This solves none of the problems and they said it was therefore "a bug" that was on the iMac and the back-up, so the only recourse would be to remove all the data permanently and start from scratch.   Is there a possible way around this?  (I'm not savvy).  wise ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.

Download and run EtreCheck, created by one of his own assistants here in CSA. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information.

First remove all the third-party RAM installed on the computer and re - built-in. Then, restart and test, whether the KIMBERLEY process continues to have a barrette of faulty RAM MEMORY.

Finally, what third party RAM brand has been installed? In these forums, because the iMacs are sensitive and benefit from the high quality of RAM, the Crucial two (buy it direct) and the two OWC (www.macsales.com) RAM are recommended because of their high quality and reasonable price. You can also have another hardware problem, in your case I would try to boot from the Partition Recovery (command + R to start) and open disk utility to see if the boot disk is found. You can also use Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics according to the age of the computer to run a test to see if two applications can detect any material error.

  • Implementation of new iMac in late 2006 iMac and external hard drive

I have a late 2006 iMac 2.16 GHz intel core 2 duo with 2.5 GB which I Lion 10.7.5.  I don't think I can improve operating systems, or more if they are not compatible.  I have an external hard drive that stores my photos, music etc I just ran out of space on iMac.  I decided to upgrade to the new iMac.  I thought that I would be able to plug in my external hard drive which has also my Time Machine backup and all the news would move to the new iMac.  However, the external hard drive is Firewire 800.  I connect it to the old iMac with adapter on the Firewire 400 port.  The new iMac has USB3.

    1. How can I connect external drive to the new iMac?  You can get a Firewire 800 cable USB3 (online research I don't think)

2 read online it seems to say that you need to update your software on your old iMac to match the new iMac otherwise the time Machine can not read information correctly.  It is not possible on the old iMac, what should I do?

I'm looking at my beautiful new iMac and the have not yet enabled.

The cable would probably be Thunderbolt to FireWire, check the available adapters

to see what should be the part. You would not upgraded an outdated old

Mac for a last OS X when he cannot go. Use the Migration Wizard or

migrate after installation. Some of these older applications or documents created

can be updated easily; Some may require conversion. Depending on your files.

The manual method is sometimes preferred. A new computer may balk

a lot of stuff which is reduced to an antique.

I was given this iMac and the Launchpad is missing from the folder in the Finder.

How can I get it back?

FWIW, you didn't say what iMac or which version of OSX, but reinstalling OS x is the only way I know.

  • I restored Firefox to its default settings, but the slowness, crashing and nonresponse are not resolved

    Hello colleagues-Firefox users.

I followed the Commission indicated in the Support article on the slow, crash, etc. by restoring Firefox to its default settings. But the problems go away. The remains of the slow browser and still gives me error messages on a non-compliant script or plugin and crashes. To make matters worse I don't see the menu on the top tool bar items, I was so used to using, such as file, editing, display, etc.. I very often used the display menu to zoom on texts that are too small for me to read. Now I can not do. I tried to drag icons in the menu on the upper right of the page on the top tool bar above the address bar, but it is not the same thing as what I used to use before, and there is no File, Edit, View, tools in the menu icons. So now I see my g-mail Inbox in tiny little characters. I tried to use the Magnifier suggested in the troubleshooting of support page, but it's too heavy so I gave up.

Would someone kindly please help me with these questions? Thank you much in advance.

    Kind regards
    Tom Graciano (globmart)

If the zoom is your problem so just try to use the keyboard.
Hold down the control (Ctrl) key + "+" to zoom in any window.
Otherwise if the crash occurs suddenly so just try to uninstall and reinstall Firefox with the update. You brought a lot of changes manually, it might create problem. So reinstall once and check whether it is at your service.

  • FaceTime Camera: the green light next to the camera makes a slow blink, and there is no picture

MacBook (retina, 12 inch, early 2015) El Capitan 10.11.5 now ongoing enforcement.

Whenever I try to access the camera FaceTime (FaceTime, Photo Booth Apps) the green light next to the camera made a slow blink, and there is no picture.

The system report > camera > model ID: Apple camera VendorID_0x106B ProductID_0x1570

The numbers of the vendor and the product are correct?

The camera worked for 6 months passed and I used FaceTime several times without problem.  Several users are affected.

None of the recent changes to the system.

Since the problem began, I have:

    (1) installed Skype to see if one application other than an Apple app had a camera problem. Skype has no camera or.

    (2) improved 10.10.4 to El Capitan Yosemite.  Hoping that the upgrade would reload the application Face Time.   No change in symptoms

    (3) reinstalled the El Capitan using the OS X Internet recovery.  I have not used the time Machine.

(Note for everyone, it was simple and painless and does not need to reinstall applications.)  I want to reinstall MS OS was too simple)

    (4) several other threads suggested to reset NVRAM and SMC memory, even if they do not seem to be associated with the prob. who - without success here tried either

Any advice to determine whether it is hardware or software?  Still dig while you wait for a response.
