Smartphone blackBerry OS upgrade of risk?

Hello Forum,

Is there a risk to the upgrade of the OS for the storm with the package of another carrier?  There are carriers of specific components that will impact operation on my home network?

I am very interested in the new version.148 and the promises for fixes of minor bugs from my actuelle.122 version, but I don't want to update to the risk of 'disturbing the spoilsport"so to speak... My service is through Services of telecommunications in Trinidad & Tobago, they aren't real quick with a lot no matter what... It takes months for them to set a fixed line, so I can only assume that it will be some time before they roll all upgrade version for the storm (especially since the device is in the country for a month).

So, with that said, any input?

Thanks in advance,

William

The only problem you might have is IF you were to need guaranteed support for your provider so that you have the version.148 on your device, and if your operator has not released it themselves. At this point, all you have to do is downgrade to their recognized release.

Otherwise, no problem to do so. I rarely ran OS release of my own carrier on any BlackBerry for the past three years.

I encourage you to read this link for more information on global questions points 1, 2 and 3:

    1. what OS you have on your "BOLD" now? Look at the Options > on.

2 4.6.0.298 is the version of the package. Ignore simply that, for this purpose... consult the version 4.6.0.167 Applications.

    3. I believe that all the OSs offered by ATT (for the most part) are multilingual. They (RIM or ATT) do not provide OS new features just because they added a new language. The new versions offer bug fixes and glitch and or some other improvements.

  • Smartphones blackBerry 8220 upgraded to v.4.6.0.180 (Platform 4.1.0.61) and now I can't use Desktop Manager

I upgraded a.180 to resolve a peripheral gel during the BrickBreaker game. As expected lost all the data of the Organizer, but while I see the hand shake between Desktop Manager (version 4.7) and the Device Manager displays a connection, I cannot perform backups and worse still, cannot sync the Organizer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled software and battery shot til the cows come home. How can I recover the functionality again if this isn't just another nice phone?

    Randy

Away sometimes a problem for a little help. It turns out that the 4.6.0.180 upgrade process wiped some data from before the upgrade, but not all. The material was left out of an installation of Pocket Informant for Blackberry.

Solution was to go to [Options]--> [Advanced Options]--> [Applications] and remove the non-Blackberry files (in this case, the Pocket Informant over material). Save and Exit, reboot and the problem disappears.

I installed the Blackberry desktop app hoping to sync my calendar with my Blackberry 9860 Outlook.

I took the opportunity to update the OS on the phone but it has been blocked to 1202 1545 for 3 hours.

What can I do? He says do not disconnect or the phone will be unusable.

Your device has passed the backup stage?

You may lose your data if you unplug now, but the automatic update should already taken and stored. Search your PC for all *.ipd or *.bbb files (normally saved in your my documents folder.

Don't you see the backup file dated today?

Anyone know if there will be an update to OS 4.3 or 4.5 (support for > 4GB memory card) for the 8830?

Verizon does not support 4.5 for 8830. They are trying to get customers to buy the new phone rather than release the update (which already has blackberry) to their customers. I just spent 30 minutes be transferred everywhere and eventually "we do not support 4.5" even if its listed on the site Web of Blackberry.

  • Provisioning of the Smartphone blackBerry and upgrade to OS 4.6.0.28 2

    Hello.

I have a question about the implementation of service and services of books... Have a BB Bold (ATT) and just upgraded to OS 4.6.0.28 2 from Eastern Asia. It was recommended by members on this forum, but also the Crackberry for the many of us who have known many dropped calls.  Our calls to ATT for help and a solution fell on deaf ears. If this upgrade allows to switch between 3G and 2G EDGE. The problem was with the 3 G-2G_EDGE all swirling around trying to block a signal, etc.

Anyway, since I've updated, all right, and the phone is still a little more quickly set to 2G. But on the home screen, I have a phone ICON that says 'operation successful. To resolve this problem, contact your provider of wireless. "Obviously, I'm not with ATT.

Can someone enlighten me on this and it's going to be a problem? So far so good!

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello

It makes a big difference that you didn't start with Visual Voicemail, which is a product of AT & T.

It will also make a difference as to if the message "Successful" as the quote above.

As opposed to "Unsuccessful" in your last post. Quite different.

If it is an unwanted application, follow the procedure that I gave allows you to remove the application.

If it is not an application and was pushed to your phone by AT & T, you can remove the icon but it

Will be back when you receive service books. If this is the case, simply highlight the icon, the menu key

Select hide. I put all the unused icons in a folder and then hide the folder, it provides more space

On the home screen for the apps that I use.

  • Problem UI Smartphones blackBerry after upgrade

Just upgraded my storm yesterday and when I have the phone in horizontal position, 50% of the icons (on the initial screen) on the extreme left and extreme right are not visible.  There is a white band that scrolls up and down with the touch screen.  Is there a way to fix this or try a new upgrade?

  • Smartphone blackBerry OS upgrade

I have seen various links to the download of the OS "BOLD" last,.162 I think it is, but as a new BB user, I question... is necessary download from the site of the provider (if they have it available, Orange, Vodafone etc.) or you can simply download from any site? Thank you...

It is usually safer to download official for your service provider, as it is supported by them.

If you load the unofficial software, they can choose not to support you and you have yourself. However, I am running unofficial software on my "BOLD" with no problems - so it is certainly possible to do so.

You need to install the software in a slightly different way, however. Click on the link below for more information:

    Bold 9930, Verizon,.

Everything was going well 5 hours ago. Backup and synchronization with Desktop Manager and everything was good. I clicked on the 'Device upgrade' link. He me everything first download and install the new Desktop Manager software. This seemed to work properly. Then it downloaded the new software device and conclusive to upgrade of the unit.

    7.1 bundle, 2705 (v7.1.0.991 platform 5.1.0.678)

The Setup program indicates that the new software has been installed, and then it seems to want to reboot the device. The device never returns, ends with an App error 606.

I loaded the cool device software, without change. Removed Software Desktop, loaded fresh, then loaded a fresh device software, without change.

I tried to load my old device software but the Desktop Manager will not allow him.

I reloaded software device 3 times, always the same behavior, always the same error at the end.

Hello and welcome to the community!

This bit is quite unusual... done correctly, you can force any OS on your BB package as long as it's your exact model number. So I'm not sure if you're really using all the good stuff... so, even if a lot of this will be redundant, please examine carefully for subtle tricks do you need to... done correctly, this can heal the situation. But any errors on the way (not ignored, stage not completed correctly, etc.) invalidates the whole process and translates the automatic process of support and limited to only the OS packages currently supported by your specific carrier.

The easiest way is, on a PC (you can not do on MAC):

    (1) make sure that you have a current backup and your BB complete... you can find the instructions at the link in my auto-sig below.

    2) uninstall all the BB OS packages from your PC,

    (3) make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed

    (4) download and install on your computer, the BB OS package you want:

    • If all you want are the levels of BONE, it is first sorted by carrier - the carrier supports, your search will be fast. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To really get the package up-to-date OS for your BB, you need to dig through and find all businesses that support your specific model BB and then compare the BONE levels they support.

    5) remove all copies of the SELLER on your PC. XML... There will be at least one and maybe 2, and they will be located in the same way or to (it changes based on your version of Windows) these files:

    • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    • C:\Users\(your Windows username) \AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

6 (a) to change your level of BB OS installed (at level or lower), you can run the Desktop software and connect your BB... the software should offer the operating system package you have installed on your PC.

6 (b) or, for recharging your BB OS level installed as well to change, work around the Desktop software and use the CHARGER. EXE directly, through step 2 in this process:

If, during the process of 6a or 6 b, your BB has an error '507', simply unplug the USB of the BB cord and reinsert it. do nothing else... This should allow the installation to continue.

You can also study the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe what he is capable.

You can also try the "skeleton OS Reload procedure" in an attempt to circumscribe the precise causal element:

    1. Load your OS "bare bones"... If everything is optional, do not install it.
    2. If the behavior is immediately, then try another OS with step 1
    3. If the behavior does not immediately, then run for as long as necessary to make you to be sure that the behavior will not occur.
    4. Add one more thing - no matter how tempting, one.
    5. If the behavior does not immediately present, and then runs for long enough to be sure he won't have the same problem
    6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are responsible or the behavior presents

When the behavior shows up, you know the culprit... the last thing you have loaded.

If the behavior doesn't re-present, then you know that step 1 or 2 cured it.

If the behavior has anything, then you have probably a problem of material level for which no amount of OS or software can heal.

You may also use these tips:

If you are on a MAC, you are limited to only your sanctioned carriers OS packages... but can still use any level they currently have to sanction. See this procedure:

    Hello!

At the top of each forum device, there should be some 'sticky' threads dealing with the level of the OS available for many models. If they understand your model, please use those as a reference as you go along. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the download portal official for packages of OS for your model:

From a PC, you can install any compatible OS package (for example, for your BB model exact number) of a BB via this procedure:

Note Although written to "recharge" and the storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade or recharge any BB device model - depends on the operating system package you download and install on your PC. If this OS package comes from one carrier other carrier for which your BB was built, then remove, on your PC, all copies of the SELLER. XML... There will be at least one and maybe 2, and they will be located in the same way or to (it changes based on your version of Windows) these files:

  • Smartphones blackBerry 4.6 to 4.7, worth the risk?

Having finally upgraded to 4.6 a couple of months, that I managed to get this working (with the exception of having to make manual backups as normal rear blocks until out in Flexwallet databases).

Now version 4.7 is here I wonder if its worth the upgrade again risk\hassle.  I can't find anywhere what are the differences (RIM should not publish some sort of version list?).

So, what is the opinion of the Blackberry customer support forums?  Is it useful for some new features or bug fixes, or do I have to take the attitude "if it isn't broken don't fix"?

Just to clarify things. It's not Blackberry forums 'customer support', but 'the support of Blackberry' community forum. This means that we are the only guests like you, but if we can, we answer questions. There are very few representatives of RIM here on the forum, and they respond on rare occasions.

I know from reading the internet:

    • 4.7 = 4.6 + storm is supported
    • 4.6 = 4.5
      • + "BOLD" is supported
      • + able to save internal memory media files (no = no need Roxio Media Manager)
      • + Media Sync is included (instead of separately, download the iTunes sync)
    • 4.5 = 4.3 +? + very slow synchronization of events

When I recently updated my BB 9650 to version 6 OS, he wiped data "Host Routing Table" my device. That left me without any service, except the AIS telephony. In Thailand, where the engineering skills can lead to more trouble than you faced initially, I had to take a trip of 20 miles from a home office area AIS to do re-configured.

Now, I find it annoying to some few bugs, but I'm afraid to opt for more updates I don't want not distributed around the said particular mill.

    My gripes include:

The impossibility of the 'response' to emails without starting a fresh message "Virgin." Possibility to save the project is there, but no shipping.

The timer is unreliable and often, but not always, don't sound the tone of the end. Grrrr!

Any advice on future upgrades of risk or not would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

Steve, you can send service books and register host home routing table, as long as you have a signal to your mobile service provider.

On your BlackBerry device, go to:

    1. options > advanced > host Routing Table > Menu > register.

2 send your service from your carrier's BIS site books:
    Of your handheld: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402

Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and sign. Then under help!, select Service books and select send service books.

    Your desktop PC: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
Carriers worldwide - find your operator from the list

    3. with the BlackBerry device powered time, remove battery for a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to restart. This restart, even if you have already done this, is often necessary to install the service books.

Now, go to Options > device > advanced > default Services and make sure you have your correct account set as the default mail e-mail client.

Please do not use foul language.

Operating system device provided are "released" by specific carriers once that they are certified and trained to their support technicians, but still, you are able to load any carrier the same model by following the instructions below. Apparently '3' is not from the same upgrade as O2.

See the link below to download and follow the simple installation instructions to install 6.0.0.668 in your 9300 OS.

Make a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > backup. Close the office at the end Manager.

    1. download the OS files to the PC then install on the PC by running (double click) the downloaded file.

    https://swdownloads.BlackBerry.com/downloads/contactFormPreload.do?code=D840CC5D906C3E9C84374C8919D2...

    2. go in c:\program files Research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. plug in the BB and double-click on "Loader.exe." It is located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Note: Some users may be concerned they will void their warranty of device by loading an OS from another carrier. There is really nothing to fear. Please read more information about it here: http://www.port3101.org/power-users/296-blackberry-os-upgrade-including-betas-myths-dispelled.html

  • Smartphones blackBerry freeze / hang screen - Curve 8900

Hi, I have a Curve 8900 which works fine since I bought it 3 years ago. Recently, the screeen began to crash and freeze and its driving me crazy! The usual routine to take out the battery when the unit is on solves the problem temporarily, but then after a short while the problem comes back... Please help... I have zero apps on the device. I have put some photos on the device recently but the memory card still shows 75% of free space! Thank you very much.

The first thing I recommend is to check what I said in my first reply you above... Make sure you have a solid backup. Given what you describe, your situation may worsen, and data loss is without a doubt a high risk to you now.

Assuming you're all good in this regard, then then I recommend a full WIPE on the device:

    • B14058 How to delete all data and applications in the smartphone BlackBerry using the security option wipe

But before you do anything about restoring data or reinstallation of applications, make sure that the problem re-no appears not at 100%. If it is not the case, then you can restore/reinstall. But if so, then more drastic measures are needed, starting with a refill of BONE.
