  Emoticons have always shown how :-) when typing the message, however changes once it has been sent. It was ever thus.

  Unless you are referring to the specificity based Emojis, they are accessible in the same key, just to press one of the grey symbols above other then the first which is indicated like this :-).

  You can disable smileys in your profile... that solves the problem, I suggest for the dev tips, that you change the default setting to "off".

  It is likely that your BBM contacts are always able to see what they're looking at an older status update. Once you make a change in the BBM application your contacts will see an update in the section of the wires showing the new status.

  If the above still does not cover the behavior you see that I suggest the following.

  (1) uninstall BBM (make sure you know your BlackBerry ID password before you do)

  (2) re - install BBM and connect with your BlackBerry ID account

  (3) define a new BBM status and confirm with your contacts
