Snapshot of the Virtual Machine is powered is Manager of snapshots?

I see a snapshot as turned on inside the Snapshot Manager before the option "You are Here". Can I delete it even if it shows that power?

I see a snapshot as turned on inside the Snapshot Manager

It only means that you have taken the hanging of a VM in working condition.

If you do not need this snapshot, you can remove.

  • If the virtual machine is restarted during SVmotion...?

    Hello

During the SVmotion if I try the scenarios below would be the SVmotion fail or still work?

Say if I trigger a SVmotion when the virtual machine is powered off and then during the migration, if I try to turn on the virtual machine what?

If I trigger a SVmotion on a virtual machine under tension and during the migration, if I restart the virtual machine what will happen?

    Deepak

Storage VMotion is process for powered on VM - it's migration transparent disk online. So if you want to restart the computer during Storage VMotion virtual it will be restarted. SVMotion care VM do inside.

But when you migrate powered off the computer virtual you just will not be able to turn on.

You can edit vmx file while the virtual machine is running? And is it safe?

    Hello

Moved to the forum of the Virtual Machine and the guest operating system.

If you edit the VMX while the virtual machine is powered on change is not levied until the power off then power on (not reboot) and there is a good chance that the change will be deleted when turn you off the system. So it is not safe to do so.

  • SRM 5.5 - vSphere replication - error: impossible to reverse the replication for the Virtual Machine. A snapshot operation cannot be performed

Hi all, we have just run a test DR failover of a couple of virtual machines in our protected our failover site and all site swung perfectly, two virtual machines came online and all applications work well. However when we cam to r-eprotect machines virtual, we get some errors.

One of the virtual machines seems to have lived the reprotect end process, it is still running, but has not moved to 89% for some time. The virtual machine has a couple of grand (a little less than 2 TB) VMDK. slow progress is just a consequence of the large VMDK?

More worrisome is the virtual machine which don't reprotect at all. It generates an error whenever I click on the "Restore" button (error: impossible to reverse the replication for the Virtual Machine.) A snapshot operation can not be performed).

Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Finally got to the bottom of this. The issue was that reprotect SRM work was trying to dispel any snapshots that were taken on the computer object virtual destination in VMWare, but could not clean snapshots.

The reason why snapshots would not consolidate was because it was snapshots of temporary VEEAM who in fact any snapshot file listed in the VSAN data store. So when we looked through the browser data store, no snapshot file existed in the virtual computers folder. Trying a manual removal also failed.

To fix this, we created a snapshot of the virtual machine in the original data center (note is the engine to the bottom of the virtual machine), this effect was to get rid of the 'fade' snapshot that was visible in the Snapshot Manager that VEEAM backup had left behind. Once this had disappeared, the reprotect back to DCA worked perfectly.

    Hello

    I found the solution.

I disabled the JOB BE general relativity.

and the host where the virtual machine belong was not the right time. No Ntp server has been configured.

I did and now there works.

I think that the problem can come from this.

virtual machine cannot start, because the snapshot of the virtual machine has been deleted by mistake.

When I start this virtual machine, it prompts: unable to find the 0001.vmdk, this disc is my shot, has been deleted by mistake.

How to restore this virtual machine.

You need help with a revival of the 000001.vmdk deleted or do you want to repair the virtual machine so that it works without the snapshot?

The last option, follow these steps:
remove the virtual machine from the inventory and edit the vmx file so that it uses the basedisk. Then add the virtual machine to inventory.

  • Unable to start the virtual machine and snapshots are missing from snapshot Manager.

    Hello

I'm new here in the VMWARE communities and I don't know if I'm posting this survey in the right place. I am currently using VMWARE Workstation 9. The issue I'm having is that I can not start my VM. The error that says:

    vm error.png

This is an overview of my settings:

    settings.png

When I try to get a snapshot I can go back, I get this snapshot Manager screen:

    snapshot.png

I checked the files on the directory of the virtual machine. The snapshot files are still there.

I tried to solve the problem by editing the configuration of virtual machine file to use another vmdk. I got an error saying something about the parent and the child are not synchronized. Sorry I don't have a screenshot of that. I also tried to make a copy of one of the other VMDK and rename it to match with the name of the missing file. That also made me anywhere I tried looking on the net but I get answers to other vmware ESXi and vSphere products. So I don't know if they apply to my current situation.

At this point, I'm hoping to recover my machine or at least be able to use snapshots. Please notify.

I think that the restoration was the best way to solve this problem. I actually checked the different files, but it looks like I missed something. In any case, create snapshots with the virtual machine in a state engine is my personal preference. It is not only to save disk space (since there is no need to preserve the current state of memory), but also provides a consistent state. As for the number of snapshots, you're always on the stop side, and if you are not having issue of performace with small changes you make you should be ok. In case there is a performance problem, you may consider to store the computer virtual on an SSD that will certainly help.

Since the Center of Documentation of VMware Workstation 10

To the premises of the virtual machines, you can take more than 100 snapshots for each linear process. For shared virtual computers and remote, you can take a maximum of 31 snapshots for each linear process.

  • When a snapshot is complete, so I can start to make changes to the virtual machine?

When I take a snapshot in merge, a progress bar appears in the window of virtual computer, then disappears in a few seconds.

But a picture of a clock also appears on the Fusion icon in the dock. Only the clock takes a minute or two to disappear.

What process is the clock?  What is the take a complete snapshot?  When the progress bar disappears, or when the clock disappears?

Can I safely begin to make changes to the virtual machine, I want to be able to restore, immediately after the progress bar disappears?

Or, it is more prudent to wait to make changes until the clock disappears?

    Thank you

(The progress bar and the clock appear in my Fusion 3 that I use always happy... I don't know what appears in more recent versions).

While the stopwatch turns, Fusion is busy writing the snapshot to disk, so the performance of your comments and your host could be reduced.

As long as the performance isn't an obstacle, you can continue to use the virtual machine while the snapshot is taken.  Merger will ensure that the snapshot includes the exact state of the virtual machine at the moment, you started the snapshot: nothing of what you are doing inside the guest, while the snapshot is in progress does not affect the State of the socket.

    See you soon,.

  • How the snapshot of the virtual machine?

    Hi all

We use the VDI in our Organization. We use Linked clones.

I have to recompose all pools each week. And to recompose some users will be connected to the virtual machine. So, generally, I select wait for logof users recompose. But some of the virtual machine are not getting laid, even though the disconnection of users due to the task request has expired error. And we manually recomposing machines.

Is it possible to know the snapshot, used by the virtual machine to the pool in the blink of an eye (i.e. What snapshot it uses if a new or old)

Otherwise, I have to check with each virtual computer and details of the snap of this virtual machine manually. We have 900 such VMS in my environment.

    Thanks in advance.

Go to the inventory pool, - 'See composer details' and sort on the column "last image".

  • Unable to start the virtual machine after failing to remove the snapshot

Recently, I tried to delete a snapshot on a Windows XP virtual machine in VMware server 2.0. After a few minutes, the operation has failed, then the GUI crashed. I was not able to manage one of my virtual machines until I rebooted the server. My other virtual machines still work fine. I can't just run the virtual machine on which I tried to remove the snapshot. This virtual machine is very important to me and I would try to get it back. Does anyone have advice? Also, I upgraded this version of VMware server 1.x to 2.x, so please let me know if this may have something to do with this problem. Thanks in advance.

An additional note. If the virtual machine starts, I suggest that you run chkdsk, just to make sure that there are no problems with the file system of the client.

  • Not able to add the snapshot file to the virtual machine

We have Win 2003 virtual machine running on ESXi 4.0.0 261974. The virtual machine has two vmdk files. We had taken the snapshot a few days back and today by mistake, we have removed one of the vmdk (DB - srv - 000001.vmdk - snapshot file). Now, we are not able to add the snapshot file to the virtual machine. When tried to add the existing vmdk, it displays only the source disk (DB - srv.vmdk). Please, help us to solve this problem.

The GUI allows only adding the base vmdk. To add the Flash disk, you must manually change the vmx file. Registrations for the formerly removed virtual disk could still exist in the vmx file with... .present = "FALSE". After changing the vmx file you must reload the configuration. To do this, remove the VM of the inventory and add it back again (right-click on the vmx file).

  • Cannot convert a virtual machine while it is powere on or suspended. Shut down and power off the virtual machine before the conversion.

    Hi all

I am currently using preinstalled VMware 7.1 and I try to import a virtual machine, I used to work on my windows XP. Recently, I am using windows VISTA and I am trying to import my VM (.vmx) and I get this error "cannot convert a virtual machine, although it is powere on or suspended. "Shut down and power off the virtual machine before the conversion.

This virtual machine worked very well under windows XP and VMware 6.5, but now I am not able to import it. Please suggest how I can make this virtual machine running in my VISTA and vmware 7.1.

I am also attaching the converter file logs and .vmx vmware.

    Thank you...

Is there a problem with this backup?

It is possible. How big is she?

  • Transport mode "nbdssl" is not available if the virtual machine has no snapshot

When I use VixDiskLib_ConnectEx with a vmdk having a snapshot, I "nbdssl". If the virtual machine has no snapshot, I've always had "nbd" no matter what I specified in the parameter transportModes of the VixDiskLib_ConnectEx. I tried NULL, "nbdssl". It affects always unconditionally "nbd" when there is no snapshot.

Is this expected behavior? If so, I am not able to write safely to a vmdk. During a recovery, I create a new vm. However, there is no snapshot. I want to get back to this vmdk.  How to work around this limitation of security?

You use 1.1?  nbdssl restores are not supported on 1.1.

  • 'Create a snapshot of the Virtual Machine' suspended the process - how to kill?

I tried to rename a virtual machine when I received a message from VCenter that "another task is already underway."

I did some research and found that the virtual machine, I am trying to rename is currently creating a snapshot of the Virtual Machine.  Or - at least the host thinks Yes.

The snap was initiated by vpxuser about 20:00 in the night a few days - and is still ongoing.  I can't kill him since the VIC when it is directly attached to the host.

Looking to my data warehouses - I don't see that he actually created the snap, because I see no 0000001 or something like that.   At this point, I don't like, I don't know why he even launched the snap in the first place.

Is there a way I can kill that process with the help of the console?   It's hosted on vSphere 4.

How can I (of) a virtual machine of the VMFS without making the other virtual machines running in the same cluster? I know that the VMFS is a system of shared files grouped campaigns, exclusive property of vmware. Does anyone know the command to use?

If anyone has any info on this subject, it would be great.
