Sound icon missing from the notification area

The volume icon is missing from my notification bar, even after I chose to display notifications and icon on the Customize link. If I click on "tour icons or disable" the sound icon is grayed out.

Thanks for posting with the query on Microsoft Community.

Sorry for not providing the complete steps to change the registry keys in my previous suggestion, below are the steps:

Step 1: Modify the registry keys:

1. press the Windows key + R key.

2. in the search box of command run, type regedit and hot OK.

3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.

4. search and then click the following registry subkey:

Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify HKEY_CURRENT_USER

5. in the Details pane, click the IconStreams registry entry.
6. on the Edit menu, click on remove and then click Yes.
7. in the Details pane, click the PastIconsStream registry entry.
8. on the Edit menu, click on remove and then click Yes.
9. exit the registry editor.

Step 2: Restart the Explorer.exe process. To do this, follow these steps:

a. press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC.
b. on the process in the Task Manager tab, click the process explorer.exe and then click twice on end process.
c. on the file menu, click New task (run), type Explorer and click OK.
d. Output Manager tasks.

The only way I can eject a USB device is click on the drive in windows Explorer and select "eject" while even "eject" is not available for an external HARD drive

    Please follow the steps below to resolve this issue:

    1. right click on the taskbar and click Properties.

    2 tab Area of Notification .

    3 check (on) or disable (off) the options you want or do not want to display on the Taskbar Notification area.

    For the network icon, you can also do with the registry.

    NOTE:

    Please be careful while making changes to the registry, any undesirable changes can affect your operating system.

    1. click on start.

    2. in the start menu search bar type regedit, and then on enter.

    3 Please go to this location in the registry by expanding each location by clicking on the brand more on the left side.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\

    4. remove the keys 'IconStreams' & 'PastIconsStream '.

    Explorer will now reboot and your icons should return.

    Alternatively, you can try to uninstall the most recent update that has caused the problem. You can uninstall an update by clicking on the icon of the program features in Control Panel. Select the update that caused the problem, and then uninstall it.

    You can also make a selection of updates to install by setting the windows updates to notify you before installing an update. To open this Panel, and then click windows updates, click settings.

    Use method 3. This is a very simple procedure.
    Download the fix for registry Volumn > save it on the desktop > right click of the enable_volumn.reg > click MERG > follow the prompts.
    Once completed, restart.
    Back to the routine "Properties", you can put a check mark on the Volumn box now.

    Steps to remove unused items from the notification area:

    1. click on start-> run and then type regedit in the box that appears, and then click ok

    2. from the tree of directories in the registry editor, navigate to

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify

    3 remove flow and PasteIconStreams icon in the list

    4. exit the registry editor, restart your computer and the items in the notification area should now be gone.
