SP2 is required?

Dear Sir.
have problems to install sp2, but - what is necessary (tecra m2 745)? When I install a good antivirus and firewall (which also have a router) and I use netscape as your browser, why install the SP-2?
Thank you
R Weekx

Hello

In my opinion the SP2 installation is recommended, but not essential. In SP2, there are many new features like Windows, Pop Up Blocker and new Windows Firewall Security Center. Most importantly it offers better protection against viruses, hackers and worms.

But if you use the right program antivirus and if you have a good firewall protection I'm sure you can use your laptop with no problems.

  • Windows Update error 0 X 80244019 in WinXP SP2

    do a rebuild of my dual boot Win XP and Win7 system - must have a software that can be run on Windows XP.

    try to get updates, but the site 'Encountered a problem' and get the above error code.

    Can not use the fixit tool as it is to the SP2-tool requires SP3, which I'm moving to.

    Data sheet:

    WinXP SP2 32-bit on 200 GB drive HARD Sata2-partion

    IE8

    AMD Phenom II 4 x 2.51 GHz

    ASRock MB w / chipset Via

    4 GB of DDR2 ram

    Preliminary work:

    Download the installation files of SP3, IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an effective antivirus/antimalware program. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

    (You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

    1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!

    2. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

    Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

    Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.

    3. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

    4. switch to IE8. Restart TWICE. (Note: it is important to let IE at the level before the upgrade to SP3 IE6.) After you are in SP3, then you can switch IE6 to IE8).

    5 install MSE.

    (What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

    6. make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

    Start | Control Panel | Security Center

    (Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)

    7. visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

    8. reactivate the automatic updates.

  • For Windows Vista, Service Pack 1 will not completely install.

    On Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 - bit system, trying to update Explorer 7, that no longer works, to Explorer 9, which requires SP1 (KB936330) and SP2 as required components.  I use Windows Update method, Guard sent me with Service Pack 1 (KB936330) to update.  However, I do, and then he said it will take about an hour and do not use my computer.  I do this but in a few minutes 'complete' and said "completed successfully."  I have now more than a finished SP1 (KB936330) entry on my page in the history of the update, BUT does not appear under installed updates, so it seems that's not install completely.  Why?  How should I fill this out so I can go on installing SP2, then Explorer 9?

    Hi all

    My environment is--> Oracle 11 g Database Release 1 on Windows 2003 Server SP2.
    Requirement is-> reading last line of a log file with UTL_FILE.

    I am reading the last line of a log file that is generated by our own application. I am able to get the last row using the script but the problem below is in the log file, has some blank lines at the end so I get the output as white.

    Script
    Declare
    DIRECTORY VARCHAR2 (300): = 'BACKUP ';
    name VARCHAR2 (300): = 'Client_Log_02-05 - 2011.log';
    l_file UTL_FILE.file_type;
    l_text VARCHAR2 (32767).

    UTL_FILE.get_line (l_file, l_text, 32767);
    -DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line (' Frontline: |' | l_text |) '|');

    NULL;
    END;
    Dbms_output.put_line (' last line: |' | l_text |) '|');
    UTL_FILE.fclose (l_file);

    Please advice me how to skip/ignore empty lines... If you have web links or scripts please share.

    I think that there are many ways... we have to save the last string that is not empty like this:

    DECLARE
        directory   VARCHAR2 (300) := 'BACKUP';
        filename    VARCHAR2 (300) := 'Client_Log_02-05-2011.log';
        l_file      UTL_FILE.file_type;
        l_text      VARCHAR2 (32767);
        l_text_not_null      VARCHAR2 (32767);
    BEGIN
        l_file :=
            UTL_FILE.fopen (directory,
                            filename,
                            'r',
                            32767);
        UTL_FILE.get_line (l_file, l_text, 32767);

        BEGIN
            LOOP
                UTL_FILE.get_line (l_file, l_text, 32767);
                IF REPLACE (REPLACE (TRIM (l_text), CHR (10)), CHR (13)) IS NOT NULL THEN
                   l_text_not_null := l_text;
                END IF;
            END LOOP;

        DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line ('Last Line : |' || NVL(l_text_not_null, l_text) || '|');

  • S1800 - cannot install SP2 as "power required".

    Hello

    S1800-712 Windows XP
    I wonder if someone can help me. I tried to install SP2 and the message "Power" required for this upgrade but the laptop is plugged in, so it is not relying on the battery?
    I tried to take on the battery and installation, same message.
    I have a feeling that the problem is related to the fact that every time I turn on the laptop, on his boots upwards then before the login screen windows appears that he goes into hibernation, I can press the power and then button sparks in life and go to the login screen. The battery should replace - I ordered an and will try to reinstall sp2
    Do you think my power settings are corrupt?
    Thank you

    Hi Richard,

    You use the utility Toshiba Powere management rather than the Microsoft option?

    If yes I will try to re-install the Toshiba utility, then goping through various power options to ensure that you are running on current alternative.

    You can also get back to you the options of Microsoft Power even if they lack the flexibility of the version of Toshiba.

  • Software re - install requires XP SP2 but I am already using SP3

    My PC crashed several weeks ago and I sent him to recover as much as possible. I was already working with WINDOW XP Pro SP3 update when the incident happened and everything worked very well. Unfortunately, I lost a few programs (Pinnacle's video editing software - Studio Plus Version 11) in the process.

    While trying to load, I get an error message that says I have to have SP2 installed upgrading to continue.  As I said, I had already used SP3 is how to reset my system after the crash.  Microsoft does support SP2 and has no practical solution.  Software is also is no longer supported and all the world wants upgrade me to the most recent (WINDOWS 7 or VISTA, new video, new hardware for video capture, editing software, etc.)

    Is it possible that I can get everything working properly (as it was previously)? The obvious answer is that SP3 should take care of it, but having the SP3 (instead of SP2) upgrade is what prevents the installation. How can I overcome the requirement for SP2 to SP3 is already there?

    Does this solve the problem you are having?

    Hello

    always check the compatibility of vista programs on the link below

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-Vista/default.aspx

    If a program is compatible with vista you can try right click on the setup.exe, and then selecting run as administrator

    It is not compatible with vista, you can try running it in a previous operating system mode

    This does not work for all programs

    I put my machine running windows update last night, he installed SP2 from one day to the next. This morning I met with my usual logon screen.
