Spotlight privacy and strength of transmission usb eject
I use an external usb drive, as my Time Machine drive. almost every time that I try to eject it, I get a message that it cannot be ejected and I should use the ejection Force. In the past, I was able to avoid this by turning off Spotlight indexing drive. However, when I try to add this drive (or other) for the Spotlight privacy settings, I get an error message and I cannot add anything. What happens in the privacy of Spotlight? Why can't I eject this drive? I use two other USB external drives on a regular basis and do not have this problem with either. Is - this specific Time machine?
You have some sort of problem with the drive. I would try using first aid in disk utility to solve this problem, if it is repairable.
Repair the hard drive and permissions - El Capitan
HD recovery start:
Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears, select disk utility and press the continue button. Disk utility charges and select the withdrawal of external volume of the Scripture list on the left. Click the first aid tab in the toolbar... If disk utility reports any errors that have been corrected, then re-run first aid until no errors are reported. Wait until the operation is complete, then quit disk utility and return to the main menu. Select restart from the Apple menu.

How can I get Firefox 9.0.1 to remember form data? I use Windows XP. Yes, I already looked under tools/options/privacy and don't see anything useful. If it's good in Firefox Safe mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one.

I use Norton Ghost 2003 and Maxtor 200 GB USB 2.0 external drive to store my image.

Run Windows, classic VB and Office from a USB?
I have an old computer with a noisy hard drive. Rather than replace the hard drive, I wonder if I can just install a version of Windows, VB 6.0 (classic), and Word and Excel 2000 on a thumb drive and run from there.
Everything I do with it runs a simple VB program that opens and focuses on Word and Excel files. Everything works fine now - except for the horrible groan in the hard drive.
I have discs for Win 98SE, 2000 and XP. (VB and office, too, of course.) Will one of these boot OSs and run Office and VB from a USB?

So that it works, not only do you need to use the right type of USB, but also your PC must support booting from a flash drive. And given that your PC is old, I doubt that.
If the PC is perhaps old, you can simply buy a new one; they are very affordable. Or you can replace the hard drive. You can physically remove in order to identify it (or use the Device Manager). Then Google to determine a suitable replacement. Newegg is a good source for hard disks.
