SRM protected LUN and RecoverPoint replicated Lun

We run VMware SRM 5.0 and RecoverPoint 3.4 SP2.  Running 5.0 ESXi and vCenter 5.0. The problem that we get and the VMware SRM and EMC RP support response are conflicting with each other.  Our SRM failover process failed because the DR replicated LUNs was not detected during the scan HBA.  VMware support said that the replicated LUN doesn't have to be added to the storage of VMware on our VNX5300 (DR) group.  Logic unit number is added to the storage PR group.  SRM/RP will present the LUN in VMware as part of the SRM failover process.  EMC, tells us that the replica LUN must be present in VMware and storage of RP group.

The failover process does not end until we added the LUNs replicated in the VMware storage group.  However, we have tested previously other SRM protected LUNS and this has never been necessary.  Can anyone provide specific details on RecoverPoint requirement to add the LUNS replicated in the VMware storage group?

Thank you

EMC is correct!  The target of replication LUNS must be in a group of storage with your hosts ESXi on the VNX for a test to run successfully.  I'll usually create a storage for a VMware cluster group, add LUN replication target and leave them there.  Of course, the Group of storage for all data, journal and repository LUN RecoverPoint must also exist with all the Rwandan Patriotic Army.

  • vROPs and SRM - protected Machines and placeholder VMs have different guest free space operating system

    Hi all

Question: Home - health - screen 'one or more machines virtual comments file systems are running out of disk space' has different values for MRS. protect VMs and VMs placeholder.

Someone has to meet a gap with machines SRM protected value of free space of different OS comments that the position expressed VM?   I've been enforcing a cleaning of the guests with < 5% free space.  When we clean up the comments, the alert is cleared almost immediately on the VM protégé (power on), but the position expressed VM is never a present according to vROPs value.

Is this a known issue? Is the problem with SRM or vROPs.  Are the vCenters related with MRS supported?

I'm under vRops 6.2.0.3528905 build 3528905.  We use array based replication and have a GB link between sites.  Replication occurs in less than 5 minutes, so this shouldn't be a problem.  I can still see the question once a day and VMS space have yet to synchronize or to get close in value to their counterpart protect VM.

    Thank you

    Luis C.

So after a discussion with the SRM team and vRealize Operations Manager, has identified vRealize treated VMs placeholder as ordinary VMs.   The interesting thing is that when a failover test is running that hard drives are connected to the VM placeholder.  All the information from disk are ingested in the vCenter site recovery.   Later this was my problem.  I had to open a feature request.  If any of you are in the same boat please do the same so they'll add logic in to MRS.   At the moment my solution was to create a dynamic group for turning off VMs and join the dynamic group to a policy with disabled alarms.

  • SRM protected site and recovery - different network

Small question about SRM and networking.  MRS works correctly if my protected site includes a cisco 1000v while my recovery site just has a vSwitch?

Someone would be able to provide some site for this?

    Thanks in advance.

When you configure the mappings of Site Recovery Manager, you map port groups, calculate the resources (i.e. clusters), resource groups and folders from the site protected on the recovering site.

When you switch, the virtual machine will migrate port groups that this is in the protected site, for groups of port mapped to corresponding to the recovering site.  As long as you protect virtual machines can access the resources they need, by sliding, port groups, they will be in when they move to the recovery site, so I don't think that you will have problems, Cisco 1000v or not.

While I have never done a failover of a 1000V to no, I'm not "see why you would have problems as long as you get your physical and virtual network on the site of recovery after a disaster.

  • SRM protected VM SVM

    Hello

We must extend the disk space for 1 protégé of the virtual computer running in the 800 GB replicated data store, which is running on the space. Currently there are 3 VMs in the data store. Our storage team has decided to provide more great replicated LUN size 1 TB, so that we can SVM all 3 protected again replicated VM DS (1 to) and then to increase disk space. Once all the 3 VM migrated to the new 1 TB lun and then storage team will claim the old replicated lun. What happens if we move all 3 protected a new store of data replicated virtual machine? Please suggest how to proceed. Do we need to make changes if we a small yellow triangle associated in the protection group.  Thank you

Once connected to vCenter, go to the home page-> Solutions-> Site Recovery Manager-> Protection groups and select the Protection Group for the virtual machines that you moved, from Control Panel, click on modify Protection Group... Follow the instructions in the wizard, and select the newly added data store.

  • VADP recovery Issues for SRM protected VM

We get the following error when you try to retrieve a picture VADP level backup to a virtual machine that has been protected using MRS:

Configuration of the VM invalid or not taken care of.

vSphere replication does not support change the length of a replicated disk.

We have the SRM protection set up between two sites, but also have a third isolated site used for DR tests I need to restore the SRM protected computers. This site is an installation vCenter vanilla and 3 only vSphere hosts. I can recover backups VADP for unprotected MRS. fine of VM, however, trying to recover a virtual machine that has been protected using SRM in the production site, I get the error.

We are running vSphere 5.0.1 and using EMC Networker 7.6 SP4 for backup and restore.

I raised a call with VMware, but they seem uncertain. Has anyone seen this problem before?

    Thank you.

    Pete.

    Hello

Just to provide an update for this problem incase anyone attempting the same process:

    VMware support reported:

    ********************************************************************************************************************************************

It seems Networker following this process:

-saves a copy of the VMX file during the backup (instead of obtaining the ConfigInfo to the virtual machine via the API)

-during the restoration, it copies the VMX file to the data store (instead of creating/reconfigure the computer based on the registered ConfigInfo virtual).

    -register the VMX

-Reconfigure the VMX recorded to create discs

This will not work if the virtual machine is being restored to the same data store and has access to the original disks. If the virtual machine is being restored to another location where is has no access to the original disks, they create the disks but the VMX still has replication configuration entries that say that these discs are being replicated. When HBR checks the request reconfigures, he sees that the disk is 'change '. In this case, it checks if the length of old drive and the new drive is identical and fails reconfigures her request if the sizes don't match. But as the old records are no longer available, HBR does not find the old disk size and it may appear 0 in the ConfigInfo. So it fails the operation of education reconfigures.

If he had followed the supported method for restoring the virtual machine by using the API to create, they would not run on this issue. However, I think that even in this case he might still have some problems in some scenarios where only some drives are restored (for example, the data store from one of the disks)
is lost), but as long as partners of backup using the API, workaround for these rare cases would be to restore the entire VM.

    ********************************************************************************************************************************************

I have raised this with EMC who said:

    ********************************************************************************************************************************************

NetWorker has not qualified for SRM + Vshpere replication (which was confirmed by ENG_team). Eng-team approves then it will be open to support. In this case, we can have support call with VMware to solve the problem. Since it has not been tested with Networker, we cannot go further to discuss with VMware or troubleshoot.

Yes you are right to say that, if networker VMware interviews there may be solutions to the problem you have. But unfortunately at the moment, it is not seems to be possible; While networker code was not prepared to support SRM + replication Vsphere.

    ********************************************************************************************************************************************

EMC then referenced the following link:

    http://solutions.EMC.com/emcsolutionview.asp?ID=esg130882

It seems that for the foreseeable future NetWorker will not support VADP image backups restore if the virtual machine is also protected by using VMware SRM.

    Hi cj47163119,

You need Acrobat application to secure your document with password. It seems that you use Acrobat Reader.

Acrobat Reader is a free service and do not have this option.

  • Linked clones create a suorce and a replica for each clone.

    Hello

    Here, I'm a bit confused.

When I create a group with linked clones i persistent mode, a source and a replica is created for the entire group. Love of new clones are created when needed and everything works well. But when I create a pool that is automated with the clones related in non persistent mode, a source and a replica is created for each new clone! This means I'll take 3 images for each virtual machine. Talk about disk... consuming taked drive much more for each clone by comparing it to a single machine. Has anyone seen this behaviuor before? What's wrong?

  • All protected LUNS must be identified separately within the Group of Protection of SRM. But this isn't the case!

    Hello

I installed the latest version of SRM in our environment. We have 2 IBM midsize v7000 storage on primary site and disaster. We use array based replication.

I have configured groups of consistency for all LUNs replicated through v7000 storage.  All LUNS are replicated successfully. I installed the last IBM midsize SRA on two SRM server. There is no problem...

    Everything is ok. But; When I try to create protection MIS group, I couldn't see LUN separately. If you look at the images below, you will understand what I mean;

I have four different coherent group on v7000.

    3.jpg

The SRA has been installed successfully.

    1.jpg

I see all the cohesive group of v7000 under the SRA through SRM.

    2.jpg

IT'S MY PROBLEM! All LUNS must be separately! But I see a group of data store! It must be like on the right side. I want to create different Protection Group all LUNS. But I couldn't choose lun separately.

    who knows what is wrong?

    4.jpg

    Thank you.

Check if any of your virtual machines have VMDK on all LUNS, because you'll be able to create a Protection Group separately for each single logic unit number if a virtual have virtual disks on more than one logical unit number.

  • How managing RecoverPoint SRM VM test and actual failovers?

Try to understand how EMC RecoverPoint manages failovers of SRM VM.   It deals with and the real test failovers differently?    For example, for failovers of test should I use SAN snapshots and real failovers promotes a LUN because failure could be a long time?   In addition, where these snapshots and LUN does work for?   The VNX target or some hybrids of VNX + RecoverPoint.

I was not able to find an article on this architecture.

    Thank you

Fix Matt, any block storage is provided by your VNX and all I/O will be finally served by newspaper or copy/data source LUN.  My apologies for any confusion!  On the performance, take a look at this blog post.  The author does a great job of outline quite unique I/O behavior of journal RecoverPoint and his unit number logic, something absolutely consider when the design of the VNX pools.  I personally always stick with standard FLARE LUN to reviews and never magazines supply workloads from one pool other accommodation, I don't have to.

But the same have resolved after you have enabled the "https" to two Can MRS. Mrs. somebody please help understand the question? I tried re-record ESXi nodes to vCenter inventory, restart ESXi and other infra servers, etc. But no luck.

    Thank you!

    Best regards

    Hari Narayanan.

Guests of protected sites are restored from sleep mode (DPM is disabled) so that storage can be removed on their part and set to read only.

I agree with what said GSS, the problem with the LUN downgrade error is very likely with the SRA and that is why EMC. I think as the hosts of the protected site of sleep problem can be linked to that as well (not able to remove LUN?)

About your VM stopping, you say that the virtual machine stops successfully? The default value is for MRS wait 5 minutes (300 seconds) for closure, if the virtual machine takes more time that you do not want to change the timeout value in the advanced settings. • SRM with virtual disks not replicated RDM Recovery Plan.

We try to do a test of SRM with a Virtual Machine that has disks Virutal RDM attached, however these volumes are not replicated with RecoverPoint, they exist already on the side of DR, so basically we're already reproducing machine virtual and it's virtual disks, but these 3 RDM are outside it.  The reason for this is because they have massive volumes that had previously been replicated using another product before virtualize us and there is no need to replicate this info again because the volumes are never going to change.

    Then...

It is done within the SRM, when you look at tab groups protection, we see a warning "not configured VMs: 1" because SRM / RecoverPoint believe that this virtual machine has volumes that are not replicated.

Is there any way to exclude this or saying SRM to ignore what we will manually add the RDM on the DR side ourselves?  Also on the side of DR, I don't see the VM under hosts and Clusters as I see the replication of other virtual machines, it is because MRS. think he isn't entirely reproduced?  Or is it a manual step where you need to create a virtual machine on the side of the DR and to disable this option in order to see it?  Also, we see what VM listed on the virtual computers tab for this group of special protection, but the other two VMs residing on the sam MON appear and I already tested successfully the two machines.

Here are the settings in the file for the RDM .vmx

    Hello

You do not see the DR VM (usually it's called shadow or the space reserved VM), because currently the VM is not protected by SRM. You can't manually create.

What you can do is run the Wizard "To configure Protection" for your virtual machine. One of the steps, "storage options" or something like this, allows you to select specific disks and mark as detached, allowing you to protect the computer with disks not replicated virtual.

  • SRM - protect multiple Clusters

Hi, anyone know if it is possible to protect multiple Clusters with MRS?

In my Site, I have 2 Clusters Vmware, the confusing part is that my mappings of the inventory shows all vmware data centers and clusters, but when II has created a protection group, I get only the possibility to choose LUNS that are in my first VMware Cluster.

Im not sure if there is a limit of number of LUNS, as my other clusters use a fairly high number of LUNS, or if it's a problem with my HP EVA SRM adapter.

    For example

    CLUSTER1 LUN 1-20

    LUN cluster2 66-70

Everyone has properly protected Clusters VMware camps?  If so what configuration you have (for example, ESX, SRM LVE and storage adapters?)

    Brandon

SRM should be able to protect any computer virtual is not serious this cluster is as the LUN resides on is reproduced on the recovering site - I'll be LUN for the other cluster are not in rpelicated.
