VMware SRM 5.8 and EMC RP

Hi people,

We have implemented 5.8 SRM with EMC RP 4.1 (array-based replication). Even if we validate us migration we encounter several issues as shown below.

ERROR 1:

2.3 stop priority 3 VMs

Error - operation exceeded: 300 seconds

ERROR 2:

5. restore the hosts of sites protected from sleep mode

Error - the object has already been disposed or was not completely created

ERROR 3:

6.1.2 change the location read-only

Error - Impossible to lower source devices. SRA command 'prepareFailover' failed. Failed to logon to user of the site IP mgmt. Check the logs of the server for more details. Do not downgrade to source devices. SRA command 'prepareFailover' failed. Failed to logon to user of the site IP mgmt. Check the logs of the server for more details.

Error "Failed opening session for the user to the site IP mgmt", seen so even the matrix to SRM Manager configuration. But the same have resolved after you have enabled the "https" to two Can MRS. Mrs. somebody please help understand the question? I tried re-record ESXi nodes to vCenter inventory, restart ESXi and other infra servers, etc. But no luck.

Thank you!

Best regards

Hari Narayanan.

Guests of protected sites are restored from sleep mode (DPM is disabled) so that storage can be removed on their part and set to read only.

I agree with what said GSS, the problem with the LUN downgrade error is very likely with the SRA and that is why EMC. I think as the hosts of the protected site of sleep problem can be linked to that as well (not able to remove LUN?)

About your VM stopping, you say that the virtual machine stops successfully? The default value is for MRS wait 5 minutes (300 seconds) for closure, if the virtual machine takes more time that you do not want to change the timeout value in the advanced settings. • SRM protected LUN and RecoverPoint replicated Lun

We run VMware SRM 5.0 and RecoverPoint 3.4 SP2.  Running 5.0 ESXi and vCenter 5.0. The problem that we get and the VMware SRM and EMC RP support response are conflicting with each other.  Our SRM failover process failed because the DR replicated LUNs was not detected during the scan HBA.  VMware support said that the replicated LUN doesn't have to be added to the storage of VMware on our VNX5300 (DR) group.  Logic unit number is added to the storage PR group.  SRM/RP will present the LUN in VMware as part of the SRM failover process.  EMC, tells us that the replica LUN must be present in VMware and storage of RP group.

The failover process does not end until we added the LUNs replicated in the VMware storage group.  However, we have tested previously other SRM protected LUNS and this has never been necessary.  Can anyone provide specific details on RecoverPoint requirement to add the LUNS replicated in the VMware storage group?

    Thank you

EMC is correct!  The target of replication LUNS must be in a group of storage with your hosts ESXi on the VNX for a test to run successfully.  I'll usually create a storage for a VMware cluster group, add LUN replication target and leave them there.  Of course, the Group of storage for all data, journal and repository LUN RecoverPoint must also exist with all the Rwandan Patriotic Army.

  • Stimulus package SRM and EMC Mirrorview/S failed

    Hello!

I have 2 servers, one with ESX 3.5 fU1 Foundation as a protected site and other ESX 3.5 U3 in mode assessment on recovery site.

CLARiiON CX4-120 with FLARE 4.29 on two sites with fiber mirror active conection.

Virtual Center 2.5.0 (trial mode), SRM 1.0.1 (trial mode) and EMC MirrorView SRA 1.4.0.15 are installed on both servers.

I have the virtual machine on Mirrorview/s LUN replicated and SRM connection, management table, the mappings of the inventory and protection group configured on the protected site.

Plan of stimulus is configured on the recovering site, and when this plan is stable or running - error has occurred (error in the photo and log attached).

Can you help me? May be a few steps are missing... hm...

    Hi Veli,

It seems also the newspapers have no consistency groups to be created. It is also a requirement with the SRA Mirrorview (well, it used to be, not sure about the SRA new).

It might be interesting to look at a doc I wrote on how to implement the Mirrorview and Clariion for MRS.

You can find it here:- http://viops.vmware.com/home/docs/DOC-1227

  • SRM and EMC Clarion

Hi, quick question, I'll implement a SRM environment using 2 emc cx-420, I configured the storage on both sites and set up areas etc, I presented and configured LUNS on the site of production as vmfs volumes

My question is, you will need to add on the site dr vmfs LUNS before configuring the srm or is there an intelligent process on the replication san adapter to do this

You will need create a VMFS volume on protected site, this volume get replicated to the recovery site using berries replication technology. When you do a failover LUNS will be published on the recovering site, hba will be reread and the volume will be resigned. I suggest to start reading the pdf RS admin file that contains a wealth of information:

  • "The remote server returned an error: (502) Bad Gateway" while matching Protected Site VC and recovery Site VC in VMware SRM

    Hi all

I am trying to Setup VMware SRM 4.1 groups. I had configured hitachi usp vm storage based array replication in both sites.

Now when I try to pair the two sites vCenter, I get an error at the end of the phase of matching as message "the remote server returned an error: (502) Bad Gateway ' on the protected site. But surprisingly, I am able to match both the vCenters on the recovering site.

Please help me to get the problem.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sanjeev

Run telnet server vCenter/SRM protected site to the recovering site server vCenter/SRM:

    Telnet IP_ADDRESS 80

    Telnet IP_ADDRESS 443

    You succeed?

  • SRM with different DELL/EMC CLARiiON systems

I have a client who currently owns a Dell Clariion CX300. They seek to replace it with a CX4-120 and would send the CX300 to an offsite location for use as a solution using MRS. DR.

According to my research, I believe that this solution is possible using EMC RecoverPoint/SE to mirror, both on an IP network, but what is not clear is if I need is more SnapView and MirrorView (I don't think I do)

HA - that someone does something similar to this before and care to share their experiences?

    Hi Sean

I am writing as an employee of EMC society UK VMware affinity team. Please see my responses below online

"I have a customer who currently has a Dell Clariion CX300. They seek to replace it with a CX4-120 and I would send the CX300 to an offsite location for use as a solution using MRS DR. »

    > > > > It is possible - if as you suggest with the CX300 not support MirrorView based SRM (support for this begins with the CX3 family) the only way to achieve consistent SRM and SRM with the CX300 is through the use of RecoverPoint as you suggest

According to my research, I believe that this solution is possible using EMC RecoverPoint/SE to mirror, both on an IP network, but what is not clear is if I need is more SnapView and MirrorView (I don't think I do)

    > > > > RecoverPoint uses its own capabilities in conjunction with a host, fabric based or CLARiiON based write splitter log all entries available to a designated SAN "volume of the journal. SnapView or MirrorView are required for this

    > > > > the CX3 / generation CLARiiON CX4 supports the separator RecoverPoint CLARiiON that allows these units to split the writings of two VMS with RDM (which is a limitation when using the separator with ESX host - the host splitter only supports Microsoft VMs using RDM - so no support of the SRM) while being able to split the Scriptures volumes VMFS suitable for SRM.

    > > > > fabric database splitting and splitting based CLARiiON are fully integrated with ESX, including support for Site Recovery Manager (in accordance with the comparability of VMware SRM Matrix) as the CX300 supports not the CLARiiON splitter - this gives you the choice of fabric-based splitting of the side DR using something like the Brocade 7600 or the switch Cisco SSM blade or 9222i Fabric my concern with what is the cost of implementation of a fabric RecoverPoint intelligent solution based on the side DR may exceed what the client will budget for his site of DR

    > > > > According to the profile of the ESX data replicated to the site of DR it can be cost-effective to improve unity DR to another CX4-120 and use MirrorView together with SRM or if RecoverPoint remains the preferred - solution have CLARiiON both production and DR site able to support the CLARiiON RecoverPoint splitter

    Let me know your thoughts

  • VMware SRM Reprotect fails with Peer table ID provided in the SRM of entry is incorrect

    I have the following Setup

    Site-a.

    VMware vCenter 5.1 U1

    VMware SRM 5.1.1

    NetApp SRA 2.0.1P2

    FAS3140C - Data ONTAP 8.1.2P4

    Site-B

    VMware vCenter 5.1 U1

    VMware SRM 5.1.1

    NetApp SRA 2.0.1P2

    FAS3140C - Data ONTAP 8.1.2P4

I created a Protection Group based at the A Site containing a single VM with a single vmdk disk on an NFS volume.

The NFS volume is synchronous to the Site-B

I can perform a migration scheduled to Site B, and then reprotect an another planned migration back to Site A, but then when I try to restore the reprotect again so that I am ready for an another Site-B recovery fails in the first step, configure storage for reverse Direction with " " - Failed to reverse the replication for impossible on the devices. SRA command 'prepareReverseReplication' failed. Peer table provided in the entry MRS. ID is incorrect check the newspapers RS to verify the correct peer array ID. "

I see nothing on the files or the newspaper of SRM server logs to indicate that it is.

This occurs for each Protection Group, I create this is not isolated to just this one volume.  I also tried with VMFS iSCSI volumes and get exactly the same results.

If I create a Protection on the Site-B group I can get back to the Site-A and will not restore to fail to Site-B.

Initially, I look that the issue I saw is that I could do a backspace, but could not perform a second reprotect because the SnapMirrors were left in the State of evil, but now I see that the problem is that I can't make a reprotect from Site A to Site B.

I completely uninstalled SRM in both places, removed from the SRM database on both sites and started again but always get the same question.

I actually IBM N series-N6040 controllers and uses IBM Data ONTAP and SRA. brand got a call open with VMware and IBM but not very far.

Has anyone seen this problem before and got a solution?

Now, I've identified what causes this problem and can work around it until there is a fix of NetApp.

The issue was the name of the file on the recovering Site Server had the same name as the file server on the Site protected with a prefix to the subject, which in my case the recovering Site go was named NSERIES01 and the protection of the Site was DRNSERIES01.  Don't forget that I had already performed a failover and restoration for the protection of the Site was my original recovery Site, so yes give it the site protected for this Protection Group is DRNSERIES01 and the recovering Site has NSERIES01 on this.

Using the task Reprotect is the first step is to call the SRA with the command prepareReverseReplication, which calls reverseReplication.pl, which is trying to verify the SnapMirror is broken.  It gets the status of all the SnapMirrors run on the recovering Site, which in this case NSERIES01.  It then goes through each of them looking for a match of the local-spin-name section: volume-name of the source of the snapmirror, for example for my test group was trying to match NSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test, at this stage of the source of the SnapMirror is DRNSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test which is correct, but because the script uses a pattern matching test it corresponds to NSERIES01 : NFS_VMware_Test to DRNSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test as NSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test is contained in DRNSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test. It then checks if the destination of the snapmirror corresponds to the peerArrayID (that is, in this case DRNSERIES01) he does not like the destination, properly, is NSERIES01, and then reports that the peerArrayID is incorrect. If there is no match on the local-spin-name: volume-name of the source of the snapmirror, then he continues to check the destination of the snapmirror, and when it finds a match, it checks if the peerArrayID is the source of the SnapMirror, and if it checks the State of the SnapMirror is broken off.

I've never touched the issue with the first reprotect because DRNSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test is not contained in the source of the SnapMirror (NSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test) and so it will be the next test of verification of the DRNSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test in the destination of the SnapMirror, that he finds and then checks the DRNSERIES01 against the destination which is also to and finally confirms that the relationship of SnapMirror is broken-off.

I had changed the volume on DRNSERIES01 a while ago because I thought that the question could have because of the volume being names the same, but I had changed with a suffix of _Repl on the end and so the script was always corresponding to NSERIES01:NFS_VMware_Test to _ReplNSERIES01:NFS_VMware_TestDR.

I have now set my group of test as follows:

    Protected site

Name of the file server = NSERIES01

    Volume name = NFS_VMware_Test_HMR

    Recovery site

    File name = DRNSERIES01

    Volume name = NFS_VMware_Test_EWC

I can now get on the Site recovery, Reprotect, restoration, Reprotect and Fail-over again and continue achieving recoveries and reprotect again and again as often as you can re - save on VHS of Scotch tape!

If the file on the Site B server had a suffix on its name instead of a prefix, for example, it was named NSERIES01DR, or had a name completely different then I would never hit this bug in the SRA.  I'll wait for NetApp fix SRA.  In the meantime I will be renaming all my volumes on the site of recovery as well as to avoid this problem.

  • SAN replication vs VMware SRM on?

    Hello

I wonder when should we choose as VMware SRM on the owner SAN replication method?

for the moment, I see a plan of the DR site that would be well if my production environment data can be reproduced by the SAN in the DR site.

    Thank you

SRM is nice, because it gives you a a (wonderful) DR failover button

Of course, the disadvantage is the cost and the fact that once you have switched, you will need to reconfigure to backspace.

SAN is generally cheaper (because the assumption is that you should replication stoarge for SRM anyway), but requires scripts on measurement or manually export and import of virtual machines to operate. It's also a bit harder to work around the question if your VLAN don't is not strained between sites and if the INVESTIGATION period.

If you're used to the script thouhg, it shouldn't be a problem, so your decision simply come sdown to ease of use, cost and skills,

Personally, I scripted before and would take the same approach again (even if the SRM is a very good tool) - but I think it is different for a lot (more) like not everyone a) the script, b) trusts their scripts.

Finally, if you pay someone to adapt, it will be easier to understand what is happening with MRS with a bunch of custom scripts and SRM allows 'dummy runs', which scripts cannot do.

Good luck and post with your final word please.

  • Cannot import the license key for VMware SRM

    Hi all

We have 2 sites and have ESX4.0 3 for each site. We use VMware SRM for the DR solution, I managed with 'Recovery Plan Test', I want to import the license key for SRM, I now go with SRM Administrator's guide but I can't look for the text Licensing.LicenseKey box in the navigation pane of the window advanced settings (see attachment for details). Please give to recommend me

    Thank you & best regards

He's gone, the place has been changed. I had this problem myself. I do not have access to SRM right now, but I think I could just enter the key in vCenter / Home / license. Hope I remember this right.

  • I did a stupid thing: I suspended "vmware vCenter Server Appliance" and now I can't connect to it more

    Hello

First some info on our system. We have a group of three hypervisors and a few terabytes of storage on two devices of Synology. VCenter Server allows us to control everything. This vCenter is accessible via a dedicated ip address. Then I opened my 5.5 vSphere client on my workstation, check the name and credentials of the vCenter and hup I can admin everything.

Now, what I did with my sleepy head? I suspended the so-called "unit of vmware vcenter server. And my vsphere client lost my connection with the server vCenter Server immediately.

    I can't ping this address ip-plus.

I'm afraid that ssh is disabled.

Installed on virtual machines seemed well-oiled, I can access it by using RDP. So no worries for employees using them.

So I would like to be able to restart this device "vmware vcenter server" but I don't know how to do it.

All useful ideas would be nice.

And Yes, it's a really stupid mistake.

    Thank you

    Paul

Point your client vSphere host your vCenter ON VM's.  You can then start the VM vCenter.

  • VM ESXi and Cisco's UCS and EMC without a question of a novice

I'm confused about the places where to install ESXi 5.0. This is on a windows Server or UCS blades if you have blades of the UCS and EMC San

I know that we must install vcenter, a first round upward on the Cisco UCS blades. Do I connect EMC San?

How to set these at all? I need a tutorial step by step for these 3 types of equipment to set up.

    Thank you!

You can install any OS on blades, it's simple as console for all blades connected with the network and storage, it requires knowledge networking and storage configuration Cisco blades. Each blade has a remote as ILO or DRAC console, you can mount ISO image and start to install the OS, according to the needs we can configure boot from the local disk or boot from SAN, engineer of the UCS who has enough knowledge will create profiles of service for a whole different requirement for Windows Server and Citrix Xen server or ESXi servers , each requirement will be have the profile, just add blades and card service profile to access the console Blade Server, please download UCS virtual device and confiure and start learning.

I'm sorry but I don't understand the position, but if I'm right you wonder why the office are different.

It is simply because the desktop 8.0.3 Fedora 17 can start the new interface of Gnome 3, on vSphere 4.1, it can be started and Fedora will then be restored in "compatibility mode".

  • SRM and EMC Solutions Enabler

    Hi all

I'm looking in the options available for implementation of the Site Recovery Manager with EMC Symmetrix storage.

We are looking for ways to use the Solutions Enabler to avoid the need to directly attach the MRS server to the storage group.

I can be this misunderstanding, but is it not possible to install the activator of solutions on an ESX host and use this host as a gateway to the table?

I imagine that if this is how things work then the Activator would install on the Service Console OS within ESX?  Is something similar to happen with ESXi?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Dave

Although it was possible to use the ESX host, it is not at all achievable with ESXi.  I personally found that by using a dedicated server to Solutions Enabler and the installation of the client on the server services SRM has been the most elegant implementation.
