SRM upgrade rollback

I've got failback, an upgrade of MRS. 5.0.2 to 5.0.1 only success on sites protected and recovery improvements due if one is 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 is and I need all the back working on the previous version until I can solve the problem. I have a BAK file backup of the external SQL DB and I saw MRS VM before the upgrade.

The plan that I thought would be:

  1. Stop the VM SRM upgrade
  2. Return to the upgrade
  3. The server of SQL, right-click the DB, select tasks and restore the DB in the BAK file
  4. Start the VM SRM upward

I'm afraid that there will be problems with VCenter (5.0) if as surely the successful SRM upgrade would have made changes here too for example it is the update plugin MRS. visible in the VI client and who would still probably stay if I performed the action above. Any thoughts?

Hello

The official literature suggests the following procedure:

To return to an earlier version, uninstall the current version of the SRM of the protected server and the recovery sites.

uninstall the plug-in of MRS and restore the database SRM for the backup that you made before you updated the

SRM server. You can then install the previous version and use the restored database.

You can find more information on page 40 in the Administrator's guide.

IMO your plan should work. But you probably need to run the installer SRM in mode "Change" (same page 40 in the Administrator's guide) to repair the connection to vCenter.

  • shared recovery of SRM - upgraded site

I would like to ask communities how others deal with the vSphere / SRM / new in the version of the SRA. We have a number of clients who are matched with ourselves. All of us are in version 5.0 (vSphere + RS)... Us v4.1 and EVERYONE upgraded to v5.0 when we had a new client came on board who needed v5.0 (as you know)... Now we have a number of customers who would also like to use this service and vSphere 5.1. This would mean that we would need to upgrade to everyone and ourselves to 5.1.

For me the shared recovery site becomes unmanageable for these reasons... An administrative nightmare of site VMware release new versions on a regular basis that are shared recovery.

    Am I missing something?

    Hello

It is not problem, but unfortunately there is currently no plan to this address. At least not in the near future.

Consider opening a feature request. As more customers will request this feature, most likely it will be addressed in the future provided.

  • spend 5.0u1 + RS 5.0.2 to vCenter vCenter 5. 1 b + SRM 5.1.0.1 really not possible?

    Hello

I vSphere business with vCenter SRM 5.0.2 on two sites (SRM for two protected volumes and two recovery volumes on NetApp file on every site server) and 5.0u1 and I guess its time for the 5.1 branch. But in the documentation for the MRS it is explicitly stated that MRS. upgrade to 5.0.2 5.1 is not possible. Is this really true? This means that I need

d ' being stuck to 5.0 versions forever?

-to completely uninstall RS, remove from its database, install 5.1.0.1 and create 5.1 SRM and set it up from scratch on each site?

Or should I just wait for the next version of SRM 5.1 (5.1.0.2?) - if so, when it comes out?

    Thank you

    David

    Hi David.

SRM 5.0.2 was released after 5.1, there is no built-in 5.1 code that knows the way to upgrade to 5.0.2.

Good news, it is that there should be a 5.1.1 new releases in the next 24 hours that will have this ability... so your upgrade path is now directly from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1.

You will probably spend a lot more time on the upgrade to vCenter with every new bit it to with SRM upgrade - it's pretty simple.

Hope that it took you time before you rebuilt.

  • Upgrade SRM

Hi people, we running vSphere/SRM 5.5.x and planning upgrade infra to 6.0 with the latest update. As MRS. isn't live upgrade to 6.1 5.x. We intend to upgrade vCenter 5.x to 6.0 Update 2 (not supported by MRS 5.x or 6.0) then do immediately after upgrade of MRS. 5.5 to 6.0 and 6.1.

I just wanted to clarify if the same thing will work as vCenter upgrade to 6.0 Update 2 is not supported by MRS 5.5 or 6.0. Or there are two phase upgrade from vCenter (5.5 to 6.0 and then 6.0 Update 2)?

    Thank you!

    Hari.

Unfortunately this will not work. For SRM install 6.0 successfully, it must have a version compatible to save with vCenter.

For properly updated need you to upgrade VC 6.0 GA or U1, then MRS. 6.0, then VC 6.0U2 and SRM to 6.1

The alternative is to simply upgrade VC 6.0 U2 and then perform a new installation of MIS 6.1. It's perhaps easier according to the amount of data SRM would need to be reconfigured.

  • upgrade to vCenter/SRM to 6.1

    All,

We have recently updated our server vCenter 5.5 Update 2 to 6.0 Update1b.  All thanks to the improvement of the PSC and vCenter went to the wonder.  The problem we run into is with MRS.  We have improved 5.5.1 to 6.0 SRM that crossed successfully.  However, whenever connect us to vSphere Web Client and run SRM we get the following message when you click sites:

I can't find anything on this error and have waited for hours for the VMware support call.  Any ideas?  We get this message with the SRM Server (remote and the).

I suspect it is a certificate problem, but I can't identify where.  When you go to https://srmhost:9086 , I get the following:

    Hello

after upgrade, you must reconfigure the pairing between sites or fix the connection from one site to the other. This should be a time effort and it is necessary to renew the certificates information in SRM products improved after all.

You can find more useful information in our documentation - Site Recovery Manager 6.1 Documentation Center

    Procedure

    1

In the Web Client vSphere client, select Site Recovery > Sites, right-click on a site and select reconfigure matching to reconfigure the connection between sites Site Recovery Manager.

    Hope that this is sufficient,

I'm looking for help to share best practices to upgrade the Site Recovery Manager (SRM), if someone can summarize the preparatory tasks?

    Hello

Please check the content below, you may find useful.

Please refer to the URL: Documentation VMware Site Recovery Manager for more detailed instructions.

    Important

Check that there is no cleanup operation pending on recovery plans and there is no problem of configuration for the virtual machines that protects the Site Recovery Manager.

1 all the recovery plans are in ready state.

2 the protection status of all protection groups is OK.

3 the status of the protection of all the individual virtual machines in the protection groups is OK.

4 the recovery of all groups of protection status is ready.

    5. If you have configured the advanced settings in the existing installation, note settings you configured before the upgrade.

6 the vCenter local and remote server instances must be running when you upgrade the Site Recovery Manager.

7 upgrade all components Server vCenter Site Recovery Manager on a site until you upgrade vCenter Server and Site Recovery Manager on the other site.

8 download the setup of Site Recovery Manager file in a folder on the machines to be upgraded the Site Recovery Manager.

9 make sure no other facilities-\no updates windows restarts done shoud

    Procedure:

    1. connect to the machine on the protected site on which you have installed the Site Recovery Manager.

    2. backup the database of Site Recovery Manager by using the tools that offers the database software.

    3. (optional) If you upgrade of Site Recovery Manager 5.0.x, create a 64-bit DSN.

4 upgrade the instance of vCenter Site Recovery Manager server that connects to vCenter Server 5.5.

If you upgrade a vCenter Server and Site Recovery Manager 4.1.x, you upgrade the instances of vCenter Server and Site Recovery Manager server in the correct sequence until you can upgrade to Site Recovery Manager 5.5.

a upgrade vCenter Server 4.1.x to 5.0.x server.

b Update Site Recovery Manager of 4.1.x to 5.0.x.

c upgrade server vCenter Server 5.0.x to 5.5.

Please let me know if it helped you or not.

    Thank you.

  • vCenter upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5 for the new machine, SRM and dvswitch

Anyone know if it is possible to do a upgrade to vCenter from a machine under windows server 2008 on a new computer server 2012? The database is located on an external computer. All I can see in the upgrade doc is that there is a tool for migrating data with earlier versions, but not when moving to 5.5.

Also - what implications are there if there's a dvswitch in the site?

    Thank you very much

    Hello

I guess you run ESXi and vCenter 5.1?

If it were me, I'd do the following:

-Install a new instance of vCenter on a new Server R2 2012

-Turn off the old server vCenter on 2008.

-Save the remote SQL database vCenter.

-Install a new instance of the Web, the inventory Service and SSO client. I remind vCenter to use the SQL remote database existing and chose to 'upgrade' when installing vCenter.

Then you'd be in vCenter server 2012 R2 with a new facility and using your old database that will get upgraded. You will always retain so your dvSwitch information. I'm not sure of SRM, you probably need to reconfigure it to use the new vCenter Server (unless you use IP records or that you can easily return?).

There are a few things to think about when you really do. Can you afford any downtime on vCenter? What of SRM and your RPO/RTO? The complexity is your configuration of SSO? Use you things like tags in web client (they would get lost in the reconstruction of the inventory service)? What confidence you are on the side of things RS? It is possible to save these configurations, but I'm not sure restore them on 5.5.

The main thing to consider is the database really. Worst case, you can restore it and turn back on your old vCenter 2008.

Happy to be told I'm wrong or answer your questions. If in doubt, contact VMware technical support and ask for help.

    Kind regards

    Ryan

  • Upgrade SRM question

I'm trying to upgrade the SRM 5.1.1 to 5.1.2. I am invited by the installer as to if I want to overwrite the current record with Vcenter.

It is not that I have any other choice. I guess that this normal for an upgrade, is that correct?

Yes, here is the documentation: upgrade the server without Migration of SRM

  • Upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5 with SRM

Currently I have VC 5.1 installed and have set up a RS. If I'm on 5.5 VC, will always work SRM or I will have to install and configure a new version of it?

If his 1082082 it would be 5.1.1.

It will work only with vCenter 5.1 and 5.1 U1, not 5.5.

  • Rollback to 10 gr 2 one 11 GR 2 Upgrade

    Hi all

Currently, we test the restoration plan for the upgrade of the 11g on a RAC + ASM 10g Architecture. To this end, we have made a full backup of the database and created the new 11g Installation on an Oracle_Home separated.

Our goal is to test the required steps and components that we would need in case the upgrade fails to process and that we are forced to return to 10G.

My original plan was to stop the software from Oracle 11 g, start RAC + ASM in 10g and restore the DB from 10 G backup before the upgrade.

Is there an extra step that you find necessary (backup of the asm instances, ocr and voting disks)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

(a.) Please do not forget the - force parameter to really clean the node of all 11.2 processes and parameters.
    (b) if the indicator 'lastnode' does not work correctly, clean the OCR and voting by hand disks. (If DD \u003d/dev/zero of = bs = 1 M count = 10).

Then start the root.sh of the old House and it should work...

  • Home Premium 64 bit Ultimum 64-bit upgrade fails during execution. Error message: Windows cannot configure some components

Upgrade problems. Home Premium 64-bit to 64-bit Ultimum.

I tried several times to upgrade Vista Home Premium 64-bit Vista Ultimate 64-bit. It ends at until the end, but when it restarts, it says windows cannot configure some components and starts a restoration to Home Premium. So frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Both Home Premium and Ultimate out of support in two months.  One company will receive technical support from Microsoft (security patches, etc.) after April.  Here is the political Support of Vista page.  'Not applicable' entries in the column of Extended Support mean that this edition is not eligible for updates, including critical security updates, after the end of standard support on April 10, 2012.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/?sort=PN&Alpha=Windows+Vista

If you can, return your ultimate and buy business.  I realize that copies of business are becoming difficult to find.  Another option is to upgrade to Windows 7.  I suggest professional since Ultimate offer very little more than Pro (just the Bitlocker and multilingual support) and is also not intended for extended support after Windows 7 standard support ends after 2014.  Professional will extend support through 2019.

Having said all this, I also had problems using the update with Vista installation option.  In many cases I resorted to the use of the custom installation option.  That does not work, but of course this means using Windows Easy Transfer to save your files and settings and reinstall your programs.  What I eventually learned with Vista upgrade can take all day even when all goes well, then there is not much time saved during a custom installation followed in any case of reinstalling the software.

One thing you can try is to completely remove your anti-malware software.  Just turning it off is not enough because some antivirus programs install a watchdog on the part of the registry.  If something prevents the writing of registry entries at the end of the upgrade you so you would get a rollback.

  • How to restore an upgrade to Vista HP for Vista Ultimate?

I've updated to Vista Ultimate on my laptop and now I want to restore that upgrading to Vista HP.  How do I do that?

    Hello

You CAN depending on how you installed the complete edition

If you have a folder windows.old on your hard drive and enough hard drive space you CAN rollback

and if you do not have a folder windows.old here are the different ways to reinstall vista

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, 0 at startup to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above
