SSD in Aurora ALX R4 installation

I just got an Alienware Aurora ALX R4 and im trying to install a SSD drive.

The ALX case requires standard 3.5 inch drives since it uses a bottom of basket and the connectors must align to the top.

So I bought a third ICY DOCK enclosure which aligns perfectly connectors, but it did not work, (perhaps faulty)

Reference Dell sells the enclosure/adapter needed to install an SSD in a chassis ALX?

I sent [email protected] but have not heard back

I don't think you get what im says:

It won't work, the ALX chassis has a bottom of basket for hard drives in need of support which aligns the connectors as if it were a normal drive 3.5 inch (off-center). Support that centers the connectors on the drive will not work.

anyway to sell you and I already ordered the part in question.

  • SSD in new ALX R4 installation and what makes the startup disk

Have just ordered a new R4 ALX. Would have preferred to order a combo HDD SSD, but Dell didn't, this combo and the largest SSD they available was 512 GB.

Thus, when the new PC arrives, I intend to install a 840 Samsung 1 TB mSATA SSD EVO (using an Icy Box 2.5 "to 3.5" HDD/SSD converter).

YouTube has a video showing how:

So, how can I make the SSD the startup disk and the backup HARD drive?

Re-install the operating system? Can I clone on the SSD HARD drive, then change the boot order? Something else?

  • Aurora ALX won't boot SSD

I have a new chassis ALX that I built and exchanged components of my R4 not of Aurora ALX. It does not start on my Crucial SSD M4. My original thread was about the swap, but I encountered this problem now that the swap is completed. My R4 had bios A11, while the new motherboard in the ALX has bios A08. The unit starts and goes to the start screen for Alienware with post beeps, but does not load Windows on my SSD and I get an error stating "non system disk or disk error." It has been suggested that I have install my motherboard the original R4, but I really hope that there is another way to solve this problem.

Yes I am good Cass. Thanks again for all the help. I'll do a clean install of Windows 7 Pro at a point and move. Now, except for a few small problems, everything is good. The seller sent me a new motherboard and card MIO. Sold my old case on eBay too, except that the buyer is resembling a deadbeat because he has not paid after 3 days. Oh well-REList time!

I went to very difficult to leave my boyfriend to buy this pc.  First of all, that we now live in different countries.  I live in the United States and he lives in England.  We met on a PS3 game online called DUST 514 and played a lot of pc games together as well.  It is difficult to have to steal it back, but we're getting married soon and I'll come to England.  He needs a new PC for years and was jealous of my Alienware Aurora R4. So I decided to buy one that is still better than mine since it's even greater player I am . This will also allow us to play more games together .

Then I he wired the money and thought that everything would be ok, but you wouldn't believe the amount of screw - rises, that Dell threw on him!  They had even cancel a bunch of commands of the peoples, b/c, trying to control his spec-ed on Alienware has revealed a major screw-up affecting many clients... (Sorry, it made me delete/modify-this until his order passes through.  Dell representatives were concerned about what happened past.  I don't know if they told people that they had to cancel the real reason why orders and the possible impact on customers with currently Alienware Aurora...  I'll tell you what they have done after that his order is finally through.  Just a hint... inside your Alienware Aurora, check if you own to make sure that everything you ordered is actually there...)  He tried to do this for a week now...  I thought Dell was a little better than that... I knew they had bad grades, but really?...  In any case, it is a complete system stressed mess of it all back and on phone calls and e-mails with different people of Dell.  So I thought that, if it still manages to get the Alienware, maybe I can do even better!

He really should have an SSD, so I'll get a. He was talking and drool on the maps of Titan, so I'll give him two EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN Superclocked 6 GB GDDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI - Express cards in SLI config! : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-06gp42791kr

I've never built a pc or tinkered with all hardware.  I want to make this even more impressive pc by adding an SSD.  I think I can install an SSD without any problem (I want the Samsung 849 EVO Mz-7TE1T0BW 2.5 "1 TB SSD)... Oops... I just thought of something... 4 TB SATA is actually 4 2 TB SATAs, put in place with 2 as the mirror...  I think that there are only 4 connectors for extension for SSD/HDD... Is this correct?  I have to replace one of the SATAs 2 TB with the 1 TB SSD?  What configuration I would define then the three SATAs 2 TB?  Would it be to say that he would have only 1 TB SATA? Could I set up so that it has SATA 1.5 TB (with SATAs split with half active and part of the half of the mirror for a RAID configuration)?  Furthermore, I have really no idea what RAID is or fact, just that you only half of total storage really active and the second half is as a backup in case of failure of a disk or something to avoid any data loss total... It is also the thing that I'm confused about that I don't know if it is also possible to install two graphics cards of Titan in SLI configuration on the micro ATX motherboard, I guess its Alienware Aurora will be, and still less 1 Titan.  Yes I know it is exaggeration lol, but the game is very important for us, especially since this is how we met.

Sorry for the long post... Finally, the MAIN POINT & QUESTION:

I have to install a different motherboard like the Asus Rampage Black Edition IV: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-rampageivblackedition in order to install two Titan GPU in SLI configuration?  If so, how this O_o...?  Also, I heard that there is a 'girl' Council that controls the Alien FX LED lighting and ventilation Active... How to connect to the new motherboard (if I need to get a new one)?  Also if I get the other motherboard (if this motherboard work with everything) this motherboard would have space for 4 x 2 TB RAID 1 + 0 and the 1 TB SSD SATAs?

    Please answer.  Thanks, ~ value

to install two Titan GPU in SLI configuration?

Don't know why you config-ed with two years 780 in SLI if you want two Titan-SLI but this guy did:

    http://en.community.Dell.com/Owners-Club/Alienware/f/3746/p/19512935/20402844.aspx#20402844

Personally, I'd keep just 780 - SLI, since the two configs end up being very similar to the performance. Either they're going run hot (in the game of max.).

  • You want advice in the sale of 4.5 years old Alienware Aurora Alx

    Hi all

Just for starters I don't have much experience with computers, computer hardware, etc. I intend to do a lot of research before I make any final decision on my desktop but my plan is to sell and look for a laptop. I appreciate all the advice.

I have an Alienware Aurora Alx desktop computer (late 2011) with an Intel core i7 cpu 920 @ 267 GHz, 6 GB of RAM installed. I have 2 GPU AMD Radeon HD 5670 connected with AMD crossfire.

I run a ton of different games on this issue at the highest graphics settings without any problem, Civ 5, LoL, cities: horizons, CS, Dota 2, Arma 2 and rocket League to name a few.

I'm looking for just to get advice on the price range, where to sell, how to find buyers, etc. Any help is welcome and appreciated. Thank you for taking the time.

You can compare your requirements with those of eBay. It is generally a good way to find a range of prices.

  • How to replace a drive to an Alienware Aurora ALX with 2x1To R1 discs

    Hello.

I have an Aurora ALX with two 2 1 TB HHD in Raid 1 and I need to replace a drive for a new.

Could you please let me know what is the procedure? I installed Intel Raid Manager. It is supposed to automatically rebuild sets after I installed the drive and starting the PC, but I want to be sure, that it is the correct procedure to to rebiuld Raid group.

Please let me know if you need any additional info.

    Thank you.

Assuming that your computer is currently operating in RAID 1 with an array degraded due to a faulty disk, replace the defective drive with a good drive at least as large as the original drive system will be automatically rebuild the RAID 1.  It's the usual approach; You should not need to take special measures to rebuild the table.

He just tried run Dell Diagnostics (outside Windows) everything that is not spent only one thing, he said that the fan was running at full speed?

    1. do you show it a part dedicated to the MIO Board of Directors. Did you use it to test and change the lights?
    2. what MIO-Board connected to MB_USB-1 motherboard header?
    3. is it an ALX model after all? If so, try the AA batteries (for interior lighting) in order to get a good "power dissipation" reset/fix to this issue.
  • Alienware Aurora ALX lights does not work master of e/s part #.

I tried to get the lights on my Alienware Aurora ALX job. The only lights that works are the head alien and the flange. Work, I mean that they are white. When I Command Center, it doesn't even show fan/readings of temperature or light speeds. I think that my I/o card is bad.

I can not get something to change in Comand Center.

I tried all the solutions on the forums and nothing seems to work.

I reinstalled windows 3 times. Nothing.

I reinstalled Alienware Command Center 6 times (correct version and the different)

I tried shutting down the computer, unplug the power cord and hold the power button for 1-2 minutes thing, didn't work.

I went to reset the map using the Green rider, did not work.

I ran a diagnosis and everything seems fine, don't know if it's testing the Master Control I/O Board.

I'll order an Alienware Aurora ALX Alien FX / Master Control I/O Board, because I am sure that my i/o board is bad.

The reference is 02JXP2 and version 1.1 mine said A02

The white mark on my map of IO said A02, but it has the same part number 02JXP2 and version 1.1.

My question is can I use a Board with the same part number but it says A04?

Here is a picture of the map of IO with the A02, I want to buy a economy part number 02JXP2 and at the bottom says A04 instead, but is a version 1.1.

If anyone as any advice before ordering the card / advice to see if I can get the lights work on my computer?

    ThatOne_Gamer

I don't have the cable that connects the motherboard to the MIO card.

I'm sure that's why my ect lights do not work.

Right... If it is not connected, it cannot work.

  • Alienware Aurora ALX during POST stop

    The product support page:

    Aurora ALX

    I7 - 920 2.66 MHz

NVIDIA 240 sometinsometin, can not learn more about the cards themselves

    Delivered in 2010.

Basically, when the computer starts, the fans kick into high gear, the leds light up everywhere, fans slow gradually over a few seconds and then shut down the computer and restart the cycle.

I removed the cards, hard drives and RAM.

When there is no RAM, I get a beep code meaning 2 RAM has not detected, of course.

The RAM and no video card or the HARD drive, back to the problem of start and stop.

I guess that the CPU is ok since POST to check the memory live.

The power supply might be dying, or a problem with the BIOS, or a thermal sensor could be dismantled and act as if the computer is overheating?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Probably get a better response if you re - post it in the forum of the Club of Alienware .

Be sure to include the version of Windows.

  • Where to get the old aurora ALX drinking?

I finally fixed a problem had my ram whereall is not being read, and before attaching it I thought that perhaps a bios upgrade would do (actually I just need to extract them and put em in a few times) but since I have upgraded to the new bios I constantly have my pc freeze forever.

long story short I want to see if my PC is most stabe on an older BIOS, but every time I search for older versions on dell (ALX) I only see A11.  I can just dl any bios has # for the alienware pc?

    http://FTP.Dell.com/published/pages/Alienware-Aurora.html

Aurora and Aurora ALX use same BIOS (within each "Release" machine or model).

    For Aurora ALX of R1 R1/Aurora (Intel 9xx and x 58 chipset) I like A09.

He has a good chance of bricking or kill your motherboard. I suggest to do the more complicated way of exterior windows to increase the chances of success.

  • Unable to install Win 7 64 bit for the SSD, no device driver? Aurora ALX R4

I have a Corsair Ls 60 GB SSD that i want to put my OS (OS currently on the HARD disk), iv tried to do a fresh install, but every time I do it asks me to connect a flash drive or a cd containing device drivers?

IV looked on dell for the deployment of OS drivers, but there only those optional for monitors... I missed something really simple here?

    Sorry if this sounds vague.

    The value of the BIOS:
    SATA Mode = AHCI Mode
    = UEFI boot mode

DVD Win7, Win-8-DVD or USB flash should start now. Use the one-time-starting F12 menu.

  • A start-up ware Alienware Aurora ALX

I bought an Alienware Aurora earlier this spring and have noticed that it takes a long time to start.  From the time I hit my power button, until all the icons on my screen are visible and able to work, it takes anywhere from 7 to 9 minutes.

I can see my desktop in 3-5 minutes, but due to other processes that I can click on Firefox and nothing won't happen for a few more minutes.

When I bought this computer I went with the RAID 0 option.  I had called and told them I wanted an SSD and a different option of RAID, but was told they don't do that.  So, I stuck with the RAID 0 option.  But have always noticed the slow start has been.  What is indigestion of alienware, like thermal controls?  Or something else that makes it so slow?

I do not support RAID on desktop computers, but it degraded sounds or something.

IMHO, I'd install SSD 256 GB (or more)... Although I had to clean install. My computer starts (for usable desktop) in about 20 seconds (with 100 process running).

    http://en.community.Dell.com/Owners-Club/Alienware/f/3746/t/19568143

Then I would probably break the raid, use a spinner HDD for large game installs and one for data files.

  • ENVY of HP dv6-7246us SSD Upgrade, problem Windows 7 installation with boot from a usb/dvd drive.

    Hi all

I recently bought the dv6-7246us and have updated for one SSD HARD drive. The problem I have now is I can't boot from usb or dvd drive that contains the Windows 7installation. Initially, this laptop has a HDD with Windows 8. I changed the boot order to boot from the USB drive and the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive several times and have still no chance to start to the top of the installation. Is there a solution to this problem?

    Thank you

    Robert

    Hi, Robert:

Go you into the BIOS and change in legacy Mode?

I think that you need to do in order to boot from another device other than the hard drive.

  • Aurora ALX (mid-2010) - replacing the PSU - problem with Cages HD

    Hello

Currently by replacing the stock PSU - it's the original 825W - with a new.

It was not too bad, but I'm stuck now.  All except the 4 HD bays unplugged (I think - there is still a jumble of cables but enough course that's all that's left).

For replacement of power non - ALX users the HD would be the easiest part of the job but they put all their wisdom for the ALX en, not sure of the right terminology, power/sata connectors built into the back of each of the four HD bays.

In all honesty, this seems to be a good idea - done removing the HD, child's play, it pop just by using pop spring of berries in the two versions of the case and if you need to unscrew the HD from the berries.

So that means the HDs are loaded in the opposite way to whatever version of the Aurora case you have (ALX / non - ALX).

It also means the power / sata ports are connected to the right side of the case (facing) or as I now like to call, the dark side that if someone of you have taken the trouble to remove the right side of the case will have realized that it is well enough a Virgin sheet of metal for this purpose, without compartments swing very convenient to get your tools at hand, etc..

I thought right, a bit boring, but I'll have to delete each individual cage HD (housing 2 HDs / berries).  However, after further inspection (and only after unscrewing 6 it which seem to be unnecessary live) there are 2 rivets where the last 2 screws should be.  There are also two metal pegs at the other end attach the berries to the metal separating the power supply / HD from the rest of the PC boxes.  After briefly seeing just snatch them I realized I would be left with nothing to gently caress my HDs and they need little too just love?

Space which is much too small/awkward for even small female hands like mine and tongs do not work because there are too many angles (if there is such a thing as the right claw angle this could work, but good enough will be done on command given the precise angle that he would have to go!).

Attached photos - first one old, just to show the model before I took her hand.

Any suggestions to navigate this madness would be welcome.

    Sam.
