Standard SBS2008 virtualization

I have new client with Server 2012 Standard running a copy virtualized SBS 2008 OEM who bought with a different material. The customer is not SA for the SBS 2008.

From what I can find on the license server is not use valid license OEM of SBS 2008 but would like confirmation of this to the customer.

    Hello

I am reviewing our current ColdFusion 11 Standard Server virtualization and would like some details on licenses
aspect. Read the EULA, it has a license allows a virtual machine with up to two vcores/vprocs. What I'm not clear all is GHZ restrictions.

The 5 GHz range is by vcore or virtual machine?  Is it a restriction of host or can be strangled on the VM instance? For example, you can have a simple VM with 2 vcores to 3 GHz with a single license, or do need to be strangled at 2.5 GHz?

The extent of the physical server as I understand it you set not by physical processor CPU but the number of nuclei divided by 4.  If a standard license would cover a physical processor with up to 4 cores or 2 CPU with up to 8 cores in total?

    Correct/clarify if necessary. THX!

I missed the article 1.4 (I searched the PDF file for the 'divide' but not 'divide').  Section 3.1. does not mention the part of carrots/4 well (I read this part carefully).

However, based on article 1.4, I would say that a standard single license will cover either a single physical processor (Jepp) with up to 8 cores, or two pCPUs with up to 4 cores of each.

  • Composer View service

Quick question for anyone just getting started with the rest of the notice.  Why in the world I have to install the service View Composer vCenter Server?  Why it cannot reside on the dedicated server View Manager/broker?  I try to keep my vCenter servers lean and mean that, since they are increasingly important to Virtual Infrastructure these days.  Certainly, if I had the choice I would have a server vCenter separated only for the VDI environment, but this is not always an option in some environments.  And despite everything, vCenter is still important (more so in fact) in a VDI implementation in a situation of standard server virtualization, so service after service to add is not something I like to do.  It seems to me that it is just a simple web service to listen and communicate with the Linked Clone, data base, but why he can't do it all of the broker and connect to vCenter via standard API?

Note, I know that VMware requires this configuration, but I am looking for the technical reasons why this is necessary if anyone knows.  Google and the search of these forums is not helped me a lot.

In essence, a design decision to keep simple setup, i.e. in a perspective View Manager it is to connect to an active "View Composer" vCenter server or not.  Technically there is no reason why the Server View Composer could not live on a separate server (or potentially co-exist on the Manager to display server), but currently it is not taken in charge or configurable.

  • Foglight for virtualization 7.0 Standard Edition Compatiibility problems with vSphere 5.5

    Hello

I couldn't understand how just after to the Foglight for virtualization forum, so I apologize for this post being in the wrong place.

I have the Foglight 7.0 Standard edition and I'm unable to see virtual machines on the hosts of a new vCenter Instance I added to Foglight.

I have enough licenses and the hosts appear in the inventory, but if you hover over one of the new hosts attribute 'State' reads "Not responding" and appear any of the virtual machines in the cluster.

Any ideas as to what could go wrong or what I would have been able to hurt?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Virtualization of a physical Windows 2003 Server Standard live by Ethernet

I intend to virtualize a Windows Server 2003 server standard of Ethernet based field.

I am currently using the VMware Workstation 10.0.1 and I noticed/hear about the possibility of using "Virtualize a physical machine" to create a testmachine identical to one of my physical servers to clients.

The physical server is running on a network domain, and it is quite critical.

Can confirm them, it is possible to virtualize a Windows 2003 Server?

Is it not possible to virtualize the server for example, live by Ethernet, without disturbing it?

    Best regards, Reynir

Your physical Windows Server 2003 machine is a domain controller or a member server standalone field?

If your server is not a domain controller, you can do a P2V from this machine without stops services, but there are always recommend stop all non Microsoft and no VMware services before starting the conversion, just to be course, there is any alteration of the data and other services like antivirus train killing the process of converter.

For P2V recommended, please visit: KB VMware: best practices for using and troubleshooting VMware Converter

And for the video tutorial of the P2V with VMware: VMware KB: convert a physical machine to the Fusion, Workstation or Player using stand-alone converter

  • Foglight for virtualization - Standard Edition - storage latency

    Hello

I would like to know how to tell the difference between the latency of storage on different data warehouses - rather than having the same threshold at all.

The default settings suits us well on our warehouses of data production, but we have some data warehouses where 200ms is no problem and would like to have that reflected in foglight to avoid SPAM-alerts.

    Best regards

    Bjarke Emborg Kragelund

    Hello

There are probably 2 ways to handle this, if it's that the first option will be faster to implement a large number of data warehouses:

1 change the rule and put a condition on the name of the store of data and comparison with a different value for data warehouses where this latency is different.

    2. When you look at the rule condition there is usually some kind of variable, something like datastoreLatency.warning/critical/fatal or something similar. When you go to administration > manage registry variables, you can find your variable and edit and brought it. To have a different value for data warehouses where you want other Scope values

Press next and choose the right database and set a value for it

    Hope this helps

  • installation of FF breaks Microsoft Application Virtualization Client with XULRunner error!

We have a document management major (Java-based) program to work. It works through virtualization: "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Microsoft Application Virtualization Client\sfttray.exe" / launch "Cosa 18.0.0.4752.

When I try to run the program once I installed FF I get a XULRunner error: error: platform version ' 18.0 ' is not compatible with minVersion > = 19.0.2 maxVersion < = 19.0.2.» After that, the program does any launch. When I uninstall FF, it works again. I installed as standard IE browser.

I tried to install XULRunner 19.0.2. But being a noob, rather, it does not appear to be installed as a program. And it shouldn't be part of FF offshore already? I have the latest version of FF! Operating system is Win7 64 b.

What should do? I think it's weird that client virtualization is suddenly pointing to the installation of FF.

I solved the problem! On a co-workers computer, I noticed the firefox.exe process. She has not installed ff. Apparently, the document management program is actually a full-screen, the package based on a browser, using FF.

When I installed FF 19.0.2 it conflicted with virtualization, running version 18. I lowered my install FF at 18.0. The document management program now embarks on a new tab, no errors.

  • Virtualization of Exchange 2003

We are about to start (finally) virtualization of our systems.  One of these systems is a Standard Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003, using DAS server and serves about 600 boxes mailbox (if users concurrent max would be around 200 users).  Current physical area includes 3 disks, C, D and E.  C is for system D is application/newspapers and E is for banks to information (only 2 - public and private).

After reading the various articles and best practices I came with a plan.  Could you get it someone please let me know if it is a good idea?

In a test environment first of all (with DC operation), separated from the production network:

Plan of P2V is the current physical Exchange box using VMware Converter Standalone.   Each physical disk would be converted to a virtual disk.  It will implement a SAN to shared storage iSCSI.  Thought create LUNS separate D and E drives, just don't know if this is necessary.  All Exchange and protection antiviruss services will be stopped during the P2V.  I tried to make a cold-clone, but don't know if I can due to the fact that we won't have a VMware enterprise license.

Once that P2V is complete, power to the top of the new virtual machine.  Remove any vendor (HP Insight) specific applications and drivers.  Then, start the Exchange services and test.

If successul, process document, repeat the test and before you run on the production system.  Once final, production VM is created, physical stop and turn on VM again.

If you're ok with the unsupportability of the solution, then I say go ahead and virtualize it.  I still believe that deploying a new server and migrate the mailboxes are the cleanest way to do but to understand the limitations it.  All the more that I would recommend if you could back migration to Exchange 2010 rather than another server in 2003.  There is no direct upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2013 path so you will need to go to Exchange 2010 in a first time in any case.  Might as well get ready now.

Migration is easier because then you're not taking all issues with the server of your virtual infrastructure.  It is also pointless to worry about uninstalling the hardware drivers, of unnecessary software, etc.

I had some success with P2V migration running on Exchange servers.  As I said earlier, you will have the best chance of success if you can organize the downtime to stop all of the Exchange during the P2V services.  That's how I managed in the past.

Do your homework and understand what works best for you.  I'm sure you can succeed with two approaches.

Good luck!  Feel free to come back and post how things went or if you need any help.

  • Virtualize the existing server

    Hello world

First of all, I want to mention that I'm kind of beginner to virtual systems.

I have a project that I need to virtualize one of our existing server. I have a HP ML350 G4 test the system and running server current which is HP Proliant DL380.

All I want is drag a system virtulazation O/S (Win2003) current with the server. without losing anything on the server (if possible).

I installed Windows Server 2003 standard on the test server (HP ML350) I installed ESX Server 3i. ESX3i works well, but the ' 03 victory.

So, my point is how to install ESX3i (or any product free compartable) on Windows 2003 is installed system without losing win ' 03 and convert win'03 to virtual pc and move it to ESX3i. (IE, using vmware converter)

Is this something impossible that I'm looking for? (See attached photo)

    Kind regards

    Serhan

Your VM is a backup of the server running.  There are no worries!

You can also install the converter on a normal PC and access your existing server on the network.  Once the conversion process is complete.  You have a copy of your existing server.  You may install VMware Player on the same PC, and then 'test' that the virtual machine works exactly has your existing server before installing ESXi (disconnect the existing server on the network before you start your virtual machine in order to avoid conflicts of network address).

You should then install ESXi that replaces the Windows operating system currently on the host computer.  When you do that, you can copy the previously converted VM / tested on the ESXi server to run.

  • VCenter Server (standard) useful with ESXi is free?

Trying to decide what, if anything, to actually buy VMware.  The free ESXi product license is... enough.  I would really like to central management, backup or read/write capabilities with rcli (piracy without installation - I think I said that correctly).

My question is this.  There is a VERY big jump in $$$ of the products beforehand essentials range or better (I think that the Standard line is unnecessary).  I currently have 5 VMware servers (2 under Server Linux 2.0 on server newish hardware, each, 2 ESXi 4 server about 4 VM running on old jobs as each House a unique VM (due to higher disk IO) and ESXi 3.5 server running on 32-bit with 1 VM hardware).

In any case - with a mixture of mission critical production VM and VM little criticism that don't necessary not to live on a San and puff SAN bandwidth, I'm not sure I want to limit myself to 3 physical machines.  It would be probably enough for the next 5 to 10 years, but it would affect my SAN strategies and I have to buy at least 1 or 2 new costly servers.

So I thought that maybe just get the vCenter Server for centralized management would work.  I always have 2 or 3 more enjoyable new servers ESXi 4 on the San with mission critical servers, while continuing to have 2-3 of older machines with individual local readers VM (I like to keep virtual for purposes of disaster recovery for) running.

I can't find any information on knowledge if it would work, and it would offer benefits etc..

You cannot add free ESXi to vCenter. Adding a host requires the inside the host vCenter Agent license.

    Sorry about that.
