vCenter Standard and vSphere4 Enterprise Plus - data recovery device?

Hello

We currently have vCenter Standard with vSphere4 Enterprise more hosts multiple and if I check the functionality under license, we have available data recovery but I can't seem to find the device anywhere? Can someone help me get started? I need to install the device of the FVO and the plugin for my vCenter. Thank you.

  • Change DNS data recovery device name

    I like a clear designation of all systems that I managed.

    This is why I would like to know, if it is supported to rename "localhost". If so, how?

    Thank you

    André

    I noticed that if you do not have a DNS entry for the host name, then change the host name to localhost.localdom.

    There is a script/opt/vmware/share/vami/vami_set_hostname, that gets run when starts. Does a search of dns rev for the IP as follows:

    Home w 10 t < ip > eth0

    If DNS does not resolve this request for ip address, it sets the hostname to localhost.localdom

    Make sure that your DNS server can resolve the rev (and fwd) entered for this host name lookup

    If you cannot configure your DNS with the name of host/ipaddr of this unit and still want the name to persist, you can try the following steps (note that only is not supported or validated by VMware)-I've tried it in my test environment and it seems to work

    Once you have set to day/etc/hosts, / etc/hostname, sysconfig to your settings

    CD/opt/vmware/share/vami

    CP vami_set_hostname vami_set_hostname.orig

    Put the following 4 lines in comment in vami_set_hostname (from line 54 of file)

    1. $ CP $HOSTFILE

      1. v grep ' ^ 127.0.0.1 "< $"

      .orig .orig > $HOSTFILE

    1. echo "$127.0.0.1 HN. $DN $HN localhost' > > $HOSTFILE

    1. echo "$FQDN" > $HOSTNAMEFILE

    This will ensure that this script does not overwrite the files whenever the device is restarted.

    I have the following in my camera (I don't use DHCP, but have a static ip address setting)

    a. update the file/etc/hosts as you like

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    < ip > < hostname > < FQDN >

    b. update the file/etc/hostname with the FQDN

    c. update the sysconfig to change the following

    Host name = < host name >

    DOMAINNAME = < domain_name >

    d. update the sysconfig to change the following

    DEVICE = eth0

    BOOTPROTO = none

    ONBOOT = yes

    TYPE = Ethernet

    IPADDR = < ip of the device >

    NETMASK = < netmask for device >

    GATEWAY = < gateway ip addr >

    = < Addr broadcast > BROADCAST

  • Available in the company VMware data recovery?

    I'm trying to figure if VMware Data Recovery is available with the Enterprise license.

    If you see that the page VDR says that it is only available in Enterprise Plus, advanced and Essentials Plus Edition.

    http://www.VMware.com/products/data-recovery/

    But if you check that page compare shows THAT VDR is available in Advanced and Enterprise.

    Brennan-

    Data recovery is available for download from vSphere ESX(I) and vCenter Server downloads. Download of data recovery will include a device to the OVF format, a vCenter plug-in and a restoration of file system component. There is a simple installation guide, but basically, install the vCenter Plugin on your client computer, import the OVF, Plugin allows you to configure the device of data recovery.

    Let me know if you get stuck - I can give you advice a little more if you have a specific problem.

  • vCenter data recovery - is it upgrade for VCB

    Hello

    I wonder if vCenter data recovery is an upgrade for existing ESX enterprise clients using VCB, or it is a new product which must be purchased?

    any ideas?

    VMware data recovery is intended as a product recovery and backup of disk to disk for virtual machines.

    The product is included in some editions of vSphere and downloadable and add-on for some of the other (for example standard).

    hope that helps,

  • What is the difference between vcenter essentials and standard vcenter?

    In vsphere essentials 5 more kit includes vcenter for the most part, I wan to know that is 100% similar to vcenter server standard?

    then have I not need to buy separately vcenter server.

    Please answer me soon.urgent

    The binaries are the same, it's just a thing of licenses. Essential Kits consisting of vCenter Server Essentials as well as 6 processor licenses for up to 3 guests with 2 processors each. This kit/bundle can be extended, which means that you can only plug in the included vCenter Server hosts and vice versa.

    A vCenter Server Standard license can manage any number of guests (up to the limit of support) with Standard, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus licenses.

  • VMware Data Recovery 2 in a vCenter Server

    Hi all

    I need a base backup of VMS backup solution. I know that each camera VDR is bounded to vCenter server, you might not use vcenter several with one camera VDR. But in a sense the opposite? I use several VDR devices with a vCenter server? I know about the limits of the VDR and probably I can achieve limit of 2 TB and only solution in this case use another camera VDR, but I don't know if it is possible to use more than a VDR with a vCenter.

    You can use up to 10 of VDR with a VirtualCenter.

    Look at the "VMware Data Recovery Administration Guide" on page 16:

    Special data recovery Compatibility Considerations:

    Ten aircraft recovery backup of data for each instance of vCenter server.

  • ESXi 4.1 + VMware Data Recovery 1.2 (without vCenter)

    Hello

    I installed VMware Data Recovery 1.2 on my ESXi 4.1 and when I connect to VMware Data Recovery I get the message "connected to the ESX Server, automatic backups will not be made.

    This means that scheduled backups only work if I receive vCenter? I without vCenter run backups manually?

    That is right. vDR is configured to discover your VM inventory via vCenter. The vDR is designed to provide a central interface for your VM backup/restore via vCenter. The cool thing about this is that vDR keep track of your virtual machines if you transfer them via vMotion, HA, DRS, etc. But, Yes, you NEED vCenter.

  • vCenter, ESX (3.5 & 4), data recovery

    The data recovery component can be added to an ESX 3.5 or 4.0 server?

    If Yes, what is the pn and the cost?

    ?:|

    You can add the data recovery for ESX 4.0 ratings (SKU: VS4-STD-C + SnS is required)

    But you also need to vCenter Server, cause of data recovery is integrated into this tool.

  • vCenter / Vsphere 4.0 data recovery

    I have to do a small infrastructure:

    n.2 vmware ESX vsphere 4.0

    n.1 iSCSI storage

    n.1 vcenter server.

    Can I use entire vmware vcenter server data recovery? I have an another iscsi storage to make backups.

    Best regards.

    Yes, vCenter vSphere 4.0 is required for vDR and will be necessary. Take a look at the comparison table of different editions: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/editions_comparison.html

    Most resembles the way forward or you can use advanced or higher if you need more features.

    You can also buy the vDR separately as a la carte in question, take a look at how to buy for vDR: http://www.vmware.com/products/data-recovery/buy.html
