    Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

    a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
    c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
    Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    Explorer.exe

    d. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.

    Step 2:

Test the issue in a new user account.

  • Missing files to user in Start menu - > all programs

I recently found a folder "Programs" in my "All programs" folder in my Start menu. This folder contained essentially all my custom folders as well as the default folders and icons to the start menu. Because I thought it was a duplicate, I decided to remove it and then realized what he deleted all files recently opened and all my custom folders (apps, games, programming etc.).

I still all files windows vista Home premium and icons, but nothing else. I searched the Internet and tried all of the suggestions that I could find (check the registry, restoring files, searching for missing files, ensuring that the Program Files folders are not hidden from program data/Menu start) and nothing seems to have solved the problem. Is there a way I can back my folder structure for programs on the start menu? I checked the system restore, but I have not activated. Unfortunately, I did this in the middle of the tent to free as much space as possible so I deleted shadow copies of my drive, as well as everything in the trash.

Is there any chance of the folder structure is always on the PC but just inaccessible? I'd rather spend on it from this angle instead of having to reinstall all applications in order to hand over the files of shortcut in the Start Menu-> all programs.

Here is the procedure; http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/79571-start-menu-shortcuts.html.  Do this for all users.  Note that this will only restore the shortcuts.  If the programs themselves have been deleted, they will have to be resettled.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.

  • Cannot access Word or Powerpoint in my Start Menu "all programs"?

I downloaded and paid for microsoft office 2010 student. I have a sony vaio notebook, and it works with windows 7. However after that I downloaded and then entered my product key, everything was working fine, but recently, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint have not shown in the section programs ALL in my Start menu. I know that both programs are still on my computer, because I can still access the files that use these programs to run, and the programs, then perform perfectly well. It's just that I can't access these programs without having to open a previously saved document, then move and clicking new blank document. In addition, microsoft exel works quite well and it is in my Start menu and I can access it easily, but the other two, word and powerpoint, aren't there, HELP PLEASE?

Start button > all programs > scroll down to find Microsoft Office, click on it > now find them?
If Yes, you can do one or both the following:

    1. right click on the word > Pin to the Start Menu
    2. right click on the word > Send to > desktop (create shortcut)

    Do the same with PowerPoint.

For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • Program icons missing on the Vista Start Menu, all programs there, but the icons are hidden

    I use a PC running Vista 32.

When you click on the start icon (circle of windows) I see a lot of white space (where the icons should be) then at the bottom it says all programs with an arrow. When I click on this all programs with arrow icons appear, but I normally click here to see the show. Do not know what happened...
    Appreciate any help.
I should mention I tried to go to properties to customize the start menu and clicked on default settings, but it does not work.
    Thank you.

  • Start in > all programs displays of empty program files

Hi - I hope someone can help me. I searched and found others who have had the same problem but no one has released a fix to work for her.

I got a virus last week that hid all the icons on my desktop and in my Start menu in my C: drive. I deleted the virus and was able to restore my desktop icons, drive C: and Menu master boot successfully, but I still have a problem. When I click on "All programs", my program files appear, but they are all empty. Programs are always installed, but for some reason, they do not appear when I click on the folder in the start menu > all programs. I can't do a restore system - the virus deleted my restore points as well. Is there a way I can rebuild my Start menu without having to do a reinstall full? I tried to create a new user profile, but the problem exists in the new profile as well.

I can run programs if I type in the correct .exe file in the search at the bottom of my Start menu bar (for example, iexplore.exe), but if I just type the name of the program, search does not find it. When I click on start > all programs, it seems normal at first, but if I click on a folder (such as Microsoft Office), it just says: (empty) under the name of the folder.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I checked that there is no virus on my computer by running MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware in safe mode, run the Avira rescue disk.

Folder options are checked to show hidden files and folders, so that's not all.

    Thank you!

If you place the cursor over the menu start all the entry of programs then right click & select open and then again to select open all users, shortcuts appear in the files that open upwards [i.e. just are we discussing their appearance in the menu programs all]?

If the shortcuts are here [I'm just a little hesitant about the meaning of what you have written before], then you might just get away with running the System File Checker.

I always agree with well Dissed - that the virus could hide here all the time since the last attack.  If all goes well, there is a good guide to the procedures for removal of malicious software by SpiritX in How to remove spyware from the computer , it will prevent a determine of this infection.

Good luck with this annoying problem.

  • After installing a program, the program on the start menu folder is empty.

After installing a program, the program on the start menu folder is empty. Here is my problem for the last 3 months, I got a problem with the installation of programs on my newest PC is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. After Installation the problem is that when I go to start and all programs folder menus and switch to this folder the last installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, the program shows as empty folder. I can't run anything in the menu start all programs. Other small programs that I installed, I was able to start the program to find the exe to start and worked with it by starting the program example start.exe start. When I start sqlservr.exe manually from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Binn it comes up with a black screen and a small window which I don't know that I do not get the appropriate permissions on the files it needs to run. C: Program Files and c: data files have corrupted permissions or other files are corrupt is there a way to reset these permissions back to their original condition or what else is happening here? Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance. • best way to add and change the menu all programs without turning off UAC?

I just download HJsplit, as someone has sent me a video file into segments to overcome the limitations of attachment size. HJsplit doesn't require installation, but UAC is actually prevents me from adding it to the start menu.

What would be the 'proper' normal procedure to add it to the menu all programs on the start menu, preferably in an existing folder, called "utility" without having to go through two reboots to turn UAC on or off?

If there was a previous version of Windows 95 and XP, I would have included the word "shortcut" in the paragraph above.

Essentially the same as option B in my two ways, but without the use of the command prompt to start the Explorer. I must have accidentally deleted the icon from the Windows Explorer of my account administer as I find it, but it appears in my standard account and backup my admin account.  Thank you, he let discover me the missing icon, and I fixed it.

  • Lost start menu shortcuts/program after you perform a restore of the system under windows 7

I did a restore of the system to an earlier time, today and for some reason any now my shortcuts on the start menu and programs have disappeared. I tried to reset the default settings in the properties and clicking on and and unclicking show open but recent programs that made my start empty set menu. Go to an another system restore does not resolve this problem. As far as I know everything works but I can't search for certain things in the start menu.

I could really use help on getting things to what they were.
    Thank you
    Chris

OK I fixed the problem. It seems that the system restore point, I tried was automatic when windows update tried to install something. Something to do with this restoration has been listening on the start menu. I restored before this restore point and my menu start came back to normal :)

Nothing. He's already in action - just blank.

    > and secondly to move the relevant folders I'm already complete (my music, etc.) across from C to D?

Do not try to move everything that is part of the operating system,
But what is your data (like music) just move there.

You do not know how to move files or folders from one location to
another? There are many ways, but one that I like:

Open computer and navigate to the file or files that you want to move.
Open computer a second time and this time navigate to the place you
you want to move the data.

You have now two instances of the open computer, one showing the "of".
place, the other place "to". In the working window 'from' select
the files or folders that you want to move. Then * right *-drag (with the)
right button of the mouse) the files or folders to the 'to' computer
    window.

When you release the right mouse button, you will be asked if you
you want to copy, move, or create a shortcut. Choose "move".

  • Cannot access Internet and all programs on the start menu. How to get rid of a virus on windows xp

I was recently given a hand computer (compaq I tthink) so I'm not clear about all the fancy stuff to the extent of the ect CPU... but I know it has windows xp pro. in any case, a friend used my computer and for some reason any felt the need to download a program called 7-zip. Now, my computer is screwed... In the start menu > all programs, everything has disappeared! And I can access the system restore in normal boot and safe mode, but the window remains empty, we never really gave me the opportunity to use it. Oh and I can't get online in normal or safe boot mod either, what can I do?

Original title: how to get rid of a virus on windows xp proremove a virus from windows xp pro

    Hello

    1. Why do you think that the computer is infected with the virus? See you pop - unwanted ups or odd behavior of all programs?

2 have you made any changes to the computer before the show?

    3. did you run any online scanners to remove infections?

    4. What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

Method 1: Run a scan antivirus on your computer.

    www.Microsoft.com/Security/Scanner

Note: If infections are detected during the scan, there is a risk of data loss because infected files will be deleted.

Method 2: Safe mode with networking

Step 1: Check if you can browse the Internet with success in Mode safe mode with networking.

Networking Mode safe mode starts Windows in mode safe mode and includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

Step 2: Put the computer in a State of boot is a way to know which application is causing this problem.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

Step 1: Follow the steps in the link below to do the same thing:

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as shown here:

Step 2: To configure Windows to use a Normal startup state

After you have used the boot is a way to solve your problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    1. Click Start and then click Run.
    2. Type msconfig and click OK. The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
    3. Click the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
    4. When you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

    Method 3:

Create a new user account and verify if you are able to access the program in the start menu.

Try to connect with a different user has administrator rights account and then create a new user account.

For more information, see these links:
