  I have just completed an upgrade between versions LTS of Ubuntu (12.04 and 14.04). The newly improved 14.04 VM Ubuntu does not start: he let me on a black screen with a cursor that is not admissible.

  An inadmissible cursor blinking on a black screen immediately at startup usually means that your installation of grub is - in good English-b0rked.

  You are comfortable in linux, the steps are roughly:

  -boot from a live CD ubuntu

  -mount the drive, chroot and run grub - install.

  -restart

  As 'comfortable in linux' usually means something else, thankfully I got the written steps of a previous event:

  This assumes that your drive is/dev/sda1

  # Mount root partition:
  sudo mount /dev/sdXY /mnt # /dev/sdXY is your root partition, e.g. /dev/sda1
  
  # If you have a separate boot partition you'll need to mount it also:
  sudo mount /dev/sdYY /mnt/boot
  
  # Mount your virtual filesystems:
  for i in /dev /dev/pts /proc /sys /run; do sudo mount -B $i /mnt$i; done
  
  # Chroot
  sudo chroot /mnt
  

  At this point, fdisk-l should work and see your drive as usual.

  If Yes, then you can run:

  grub-install /dev/sda
  

  At this point, you can restart and your grub should be recovered.

• You started VMware fusion with an outdated version of the application

  I bought a new disc fusion 3.0 version and it loaded on my new macbook pro and also to load Windows XP.  Everything worked fine until I'm showing that an update was available.  After update, when I start the fusion, the message arrives, 'you started VMware fusion with an outdated version of the application. VMware fusion can not power on virtual machines using this copy (version 3.0.0) to power on this virtual machine and run VMware Fusion of the default location"Does anyone have any idea what it means or if there is a fix?

  If you have VMware Fusion.app a subfolder of the Application or in he moved to the outside/applications, you must give the app and run it from the Applications.  If this is not the case, try to search with Spotlight for several copies of Fusion on your system to see if you have copies of somewhere, maybe an old backup.

  There is no requirement for the ESX servers or your vCenter Server start from SAN with MRS.

  MRS. offers recovery disaster for your virtual machines, so long as the virtual machines residing on SAN replicated storage, you should be good to go.

  You will have a vCenter server to your protected & recovery sites and ESX servers.

  While working on the vmware api Reconfigure_task fact face a problem. A single montage, in the same scenario, he started the exception as

  Basically, the answer is no. VimSdk acts not differently for NFS for SAN.

  Of course, ReconfigureVM_Task can have constraints special som according to the storage used.

  Dear experts

  I got the following specifications: win 10 Build 10547, VMWare Player 7.1.2 build 2780323.

  On my disk, VMware several resident (OSs Win7 and Win10).

  My problem is that I can't open the VMwares.

  If I start the VMware Player by double clicking (not as administrator) I get the error message: the VMware authorization Service does not work.

  I checked the service and it works, I also rebooted, but there was no improvement.

  If I start the VMware Player as an administrator and try to turn on the VMware process is suspended.

  After turning on a vmware, I get a black screen and nothing happens.

  VMware Player does not react and I need to finish the process.

• 10.9.2 upgrade - failure of the "internal error" when you try to start vmware fusion

  Everything worked well even after 10.9.2 upgrade and then all of a sudden, I get an internal error and cannot start.

  Cause I think that lie in the osx system log: /var/log/system.log

  Here are 2 mistakes of the system log which I believe are responsible for this internal error message - I need to know what they mean and how do I workaround:

• VMware - SAN verses server for the guest operating system

  We set up our VMware environment 4 years ago and want to replace the hardware and upgrade to VSphere. We are now part of a large organization and they are questioning our original facility regarding using a San to host Windows Server guests in this environment. They believe that a San is only for storage and VMware customers have to live on a server. I'm looking for confirmation that we use "best practices" by having the OS guest systems on a San, rather than a server. I'd really like something VMware that says to use a SAN and why. It's our Installer; We have 4 servers ESX 3.5 with dual processors core quad, 32 GB of ram and quad port network adapters. The ESX servers connected to the SAN via redundant fiber via HABs connections. The SAN has 6 TB of storage space and we accommodate 24 people from Windows 2003. I say that we have this right and they say I should welcome the guests on a server and not a SAN. My point is why are in charge of the server OS and everything that comes with it as patching and antivirus and multiple HBA when I can get a SAN form HP at equal or lower cost. I just need help to make my case.

  Shared storage is a requirement for features such as vMotion, DRS, and HA.

  It is certainly having a guest on local storage, but what happens if you have a question of host or need maintenance?   If you use a shared storage and you need to host maintenance you can simply vMotion the VMS to another host and there is no interruption of service.   Without shared storage log off the virtual machines or need to spend downtime to migrate them to another host.   If a host goes down, your VM on local storage is down until the host is repaired.  With HA and a shared storage, another host will reboot the virtual machine and it will be online in a few minutes.

• Cannot start vmware converter

  I am at my wits end and I thought that I'll never ask publicly a question as simple as that: I installed Virtual Center 2.5 and want to run vmware converter. services are running, but how do I start the GUI?

  This should be the easiest thing in the world, but there are no shortcuts, no start, no exe files work menu entry (they are all CLI tools), and my VI client doesn't give me any options to import...

  It seems to be properly installed in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Converter Enterprise, services run etc. I just want to see the graphical interface, so I can import a physical machine.

  I just installed VMware Server on my laptop Vista Business. I now have a shortcut that says:

  "VMware Server Home Page. When I click on this, I just get a browser

  window opening to:

  https://mycomputername:8333 / ui /.

  Then a "missed connection" error in Firefox.  What do I have to get VMware Server operational?

  I want to just run the virtual machine from my laptop that I created with VMware Converter.

  Did you ever to the login page?

  Try to enter the IP address instead of the computer name in the URL.

  Have you tried with IE?
