I'm working on a project to upgrade current database from 12.1.0.1 to 12.1.0.2 in server (6.4) of Linux.
There are a couple of database running against oracle current home (/ opt/oracle/product/12.1.0)
I run a Setup program and install the oracle in opt/oracle/product/12.1.0.2, I am planning to use it my new ORACLE_HOME.
now the last step is to run the root.sh script to complete the installation,

Yes you can choose to replace - this will copy new versions of the dbhome and other executables in/usr/ocal/bin which are backward compatible with earlier versions. The rewriting process does not change or interfere with existing databases or software.

Client computer: Dell notebook, i5, Win 7 SP1 Enterprise 64-bit (8 GB of RAM)
I am trying to install the oracle 11.2.0.3 client 64-bit on this machine, but facing problems. After I'm done specifying ORACLE_BASE and selection of the language and 'Administrative' selected option instead of 'instant customer' or 'Runtime', by clicking on the next button, progress bar is displayed and the time it's done with audit requirements that disappears from the screen moving in together. I ran the installer with the option "Run as Administrator" too and tried to use 11.2.0.2 setup, but in vain.
Quick question... I have a CSI valid, if I get a ticket with Oracle, they would help me on problem installing client that I am facing. In the past I was able to install the client on this machine, I am just clueless despite that I looked at the log generated by the Setup program file.

Our database is 10.2.0.3 and db Server Windows 2003 server.

The oracle in our web server customer is thus 10.2.0.3. One of our improved applications must ODP.NET in Oracle 11 g client. If the developer offers to install this component in a new Oracle home (directory). And then we have to copy tnsnames.ora file of 10g to 11g Home House in order to make all the apps work.

My questions are:

Do you see any problems in this kind of arrangement?

Can we install 11g ODP.NET in existing 10g Oracle home?

What is the best practice in this respect?

Separate Oracle homes always.
Do not try to install in the same House Oracle two products different.
You won't have any kind of problems that you just need to be careful when you want to use one version or another, cause of Global Variables of Enrinoment can cause a bit of confussion but nothing serious.

If you will not use the 10g version, why don't you withdraw and have onlye the 11g?

We are trying to do a fresh install of Oracle Hyperion EPM 11.1.2.3 on Windows 2008 Server R2.
Its a standard deployment with a Foundation Server and an Essbase server.
When you try to install on the server of the Foundation, the EPM System Installer fails to install Oracle database customers.
The first Question we have is, we have decided using Microsoft SQL Server for the repository of Shared Services and therefore would like to know if it is safe to ignore this error and move on.
The second question is, if we need the error pending, we want to know why the installation system fails. Looking at the newspaper, ORACLE_HOME is on something that is not valid or is longer than 128 characters.

I'm trying to change a setting for an environment variable in an oracle client installation.
The problem is that in the path, that I found in the oracle.key file, there is no registry entry... so I can't change the environment variable.

How can it be possible? Where can I find variable parameters?

I'll come back down the road to windows 2003 because it is a supported operating system, XP is not supported even if it may be possible to install it on it.
In view of that experience have been trying to install 11.1.1 is certainly worth a try to choose an operating system that is supported as a starting point.
