    Hi ijudge,

Welcome to the Microsoft answers community site.

Option 1: Change the default to player. AVI files. Follow the steps in the link to find out how to change that uses default Windows programs and Windows Media Player as default for. AVI files.

    Option 2: Download updated Codec

If the problem persists probably you try to play a file that uses a codec that is corrupt. When you try to play a file that uses a codec that is not on your computer, the Player tries to download the codec from a Microsoft server. If the codec is available, the player installed on your computer, and then bed file. If the codec is not available on the server (for example, because the codec has not been created by Microsoft), the player displays a message stating that your computer is missing a codec.

If you are connected to the Internet, the message is usually a help button on the Web you can click for more information. If the player can determine which codec you are missing, when you click this button, a help topic is displayed and contains a link to WMPlugins.com, a Web site that lists a number of codecs that are available for download. DivX and MPEG-2 video codecs and audio ACELP.net and Ogg Vorbis codecs are examples of codecs that are not included in the operating system or the default player.

    Hi Ron,

I apologize for the late response.

What is the brand and model of the computer?

I suggest that you download from the website of the manufacturer of the computer display driver and install it in the computer.

If the display driver for Windows 8 is not released by the manufacturer, and then install the latest version of the driver in compatibility mode and check.

Make the programs more compatible with this version of Windows

    Hello texanbelle,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum.

I am including instructions below a scan to help repair the system files related to some components of Windows, including Windows Media Center, and Windows Media Player.

Repair Windows Vista Media Center files

You can use the following steps to repair files that are part of Windows Vista Media Center:

    1. click on the Start menu, choose all programs, then Accessories, then right-click on the item to the command prompt and select run as administrator

    2. click on continue to allow it to open a prompt with administrator privileges

    3. run this command in the cmd prompt: sfc/scannow

    4. the cmd prompt should list text stating "start system analysis. This process will take time. »

    5. wait for the scan to complete (this may take several minutes, so be patient).  This command will scan all protected system files and attempt to replace the incorrect versions by appropriate Microsoft versions

    6. once the analysis is complete, the SFC tool will indicate whether or not it found no problems and whether or not he was able to correct

    7. If any errors are reported that SFC could not resolve, there are steps in this knowledge base article which explain how to locate and attempt to correct errors

    8. after fixing errors that are found, try to use Windows Vista Media Center again.

Fix Windows Vista Media Center registry entries

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to fix key/registry values that are installed by Windows Vista, as there are files.  If you want to try to repair the registry values/keys that are part of Windows Vista Media Center, you will need to re-run the installer of Windows Vista operating system and repair the operating system.

Try this and tell us if it helps with your question.

  • Using Windows Vista and Windows Media Player with Sanyo R227 Internet Radio

I just bought a Sanyo R227 Internet Radio wireless.  He has no problem using my home network wireless and find the Internet gateway and play Internet radio stations.

However, it also has the ability to access and attendance of the media playing on shared Music folders.   The installation instructions are very simple, but again, I have to be able to connect.  (Someone else I know has no problem with XP).  Read the fine print, Sanyo said it is checked with Windows 2000 and Windows XP, but there is no mention of Vista.  When I emailed them, they said that they did not support Vista.  However, I found a few articles to say that they tested it with Vista, just no mention of what they did to make it work.  I don't know that Sanyo is not interested in checking out Vista, because Windows 7 is now available.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2 and Windows Media Player Version 11.  Also, I have Symmatic installed Smart Firewall (Norton) and enabled Windows Media Player and Windows Media Player network sharing service. I got Symmatic take possession of my PC and make sure these settings are correct.

I turned on the multimedia file sharing, file sharing and network discovery.  Because my PC is to use the Norton Firewall, Windows Firewall is disabled.  The network type is Public.  Privacy requires the Windows Firewall, which confuses the Norton Firewall.

When I scan to PC on the webradio of Sanyo R227, he never finds my laptop.  I'll try to turn off the Norton Firewall and see what happens, but I don't think that's the problem.

Anyone out there have experience with this device, media player and Vista?

Turn off the Norton Firewall and it worked.  Now I have to talk to Symantec and find a way to make it work with the firewall turned on.

I'm reading a file mpeg and Windows Media Player C00D1199 error.  How to get good download of the missing codec?  I have windows 7 x 64 os.

    All is not lost.

Download and install a pack of codecs, such as K-Lite (Google for it). You can find THAT WMP can then read the file.

    Or
Download and install a small program called Gspot (Google it)! Drag and drop in its window one of the files, you can't plzy. It will tell you which codecs are used. You can then download and install the only after doing a search on the web for it.
    See you soon,.

  • Codecs, and Windows Media Player: how to find and add them

Someone made a recording of file wmv to a desktop session remotely and he sent me.

I can play on a 64-bit Windows vista computer, but I can't play on my Win 7 Ultimate computers.

Windows 7 computers are complaining that I'm not "have the right codecs installed.  I do not know which codecs must be installed or where to get them, and I spent several hours looking in vain for codecs that can be installed on Windows 7 computers.  None of the codecs that I managed to install have no good.

The guy who sent me the .wmv file told me that it is a Mpeg4 codec.

What can I do to get the wmv file to play on my machines win 7?

I'm trying to develop an add-in for Outlook that will allow people to high level, who have ADHD

    Hello, Marc

There is no absolute way to identify what codec that uses a media file, but here are your best options:

    • Read the file in Media Player. When the file is playing, right-click the file in the library, and then click Properties. On the file tab, refer to the section of video codec .
    • Use a non-Microsoft codec identification tool. Many are available on the Internet.

Once you have located the FourCC code, looking for should identify exactly what it is and (hopefully) be able to download and install.

  • I can't update download Win Media PLayer.

I experienced the process of validation and download (and savings) Windows Media Player for Windows 6.1 - KB968212 - X 86-RefreshPkg to my download folder. When I try to run the file, I get an error message that says that "update is not applicable to your computer."

I ran "winver" into the start menu search, and he tells me I have Win7 version 6.1 with SP1, and it is approved.

So.  I looked on the MS site for a download of Windows Media Player and found the file for Win 7 and found the one I ran (above).

What I am doing wrong?  Can someone tell me what to do next, please?

  • Music in Spotify, iTunes and Windows Media Player

Well, I tried to use my programs of music on my computer for about a week and a half now, and that they won't play all my music. Not at all.  I went to support these programs, but they did not really help. I also checked to see if any of them were incompatible with my computer, which iTunes was the only one, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the version 64-bit for Windows 8 and still nothing.

I don't know if it's the sound of my computer, which I don't think it is, because it works for everything else except these three programs. And I have no idea why, and frankly, it's getting boring. I also checked my device manager and my sound system and everything is working properly.

Anyone who can help and give me some answers on this as soon as possible, it would be greatly appreciated!
