Win Media player flicker problem of video playback in Win 8

When I use XVID as my encoder with programs like CAMSTUDIO screenshots, on a machine with Win XP or Win 7 x 64, the video return correctly from Win media player or VLC.

However, when I perform the same operations on my laptop Win 8, I am twinkle video during playback with Win Media player but VLC rereads flicker.

I think that something is altered in WIn 8.  There is no problem with reading in a virtual machine VMware 8 Win.

I tried to go to Windows features to reset Win media Player, no change in the results.

Hi Ron,

I apologize for the late response.

What is the brand and model of the computer?

I suggest that you download from the website of the manufacturer of the computer display driver and install it in the computer.

If the display driver for Windows 8 is not released by the manufacturer, and then install the latest version of the driver in compatibility mode and check.

Make the programs more compatible with this version of Windows

Let us know the status of the issue.

Windows Media Player won't PLAY VIDEO (MOVIES); ONLY SOUND CAN BE HEARD.

Can someone please?  I go crazy - my windows media player will not play anything except the sound on videos (films are so far the problem).  She claims codecs are updated automatically, I'm too scared to download some unknown codec. I tried everything I know to do and I'm not too bad to understand such things.  I am now at a loss.  What is the problem here? BTW-Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Toshiba laptop.  I think that Media Player 11.

Volunteer J ~ THANK YOU very MUCH FOR THE REPLY! I WILL RESPECT ALL THE SOLUTIONS YOU HAVE TO OFFER!  From what I can tell, they are my videos (movies) transferred from the cd to the media player.  Videos of "sample" provided pre work ok.  My films all have the extension .avi at the end, that's why I don't understand why they will play only the sound of the film, not the actual Visual part. . AVI should be accompanied by my windows media player.  As I said, I'm pretty decent to deal with such things as a result of working with a lot of "technicians" in recent years; This is why I do not bother anyone here, but I am at a loss for what to do. If it's codecs, I don't want to take the risk to download a bad codec and corrupting my system.  Already checked the updates of Media player, there are not available at this time.  She has also set to automatically download codecs.  Man, it drives me crazy!  ConfusedOne70 aka Michelle

  • Windows Media Player - no audio during video playback

    Windows media player

I am running Windows XP.  Windows Media Player opens successfully, I have audio but not video.  I tried to reinstall, update etc.  Still nothing.

    Hi jeffwebs,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

2 when was the last time it was working fine?

    3. you receive an error message during playback of video files?

    4. What if the problem occurs with all video files read using Windows media player?

It is likely that the codec is correct / encoder is not installed or is installed but has been corrupted by another program.

A codec is a software to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or a video. Windows Media Player and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.

A codec can consist of two components: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder performs the compression function (coding) and the decoder performs the decompression function (decoding). Some codecs include both components and some codecs only one of them.

Follow the steps listed in the section below to download codecs for this problem.

You receive a codec error message or play audio but video does not play when you play media files in Windows Media Player 11

  • How can I block Windows media player-all function or video?

OK, I have one of four newspapers-ons in my pc that is locked down pretty tight where the only thing I want to work is word processor (WordPerfect and starting Word version).  My teenage son has impulse control issues, which gives more access means that it is wandering and not on the task.  Theoretically, he likes to play music while working on school assignments (writing) on the computer.  The problem is that apparently in addition to the execution of music files already resident on our pc and external drive, he inserted DVD in the dvd player and movies run (secretly) that are played to use the features of Windows media player.  My preference would be to hell video functionality or the ability to use the DVD drive under this opening of session and leave the ability of audio file.  Is there a way to do this?

Alternatively, if I install another drive, can I block the video features of a different player and block the drive windows completely?

    Hi Akphoneguy,

We understand that you want to restrict your teenager using Windows Media Player to play the video file but without impact on music files. However, the feature that you are curious about is currently not available in Family Safety. It can only restrict the entire working application and not a specific feature within the application. If you think that restrict certain features of any application is a convenient feature to have safe family, we suggest that submit you it as a feature request to Microsoft who appreciates your comments and considers that the suggestion of a future versions. In regards to your idea to install a new drive and Windows Media Player blocking completely, as now, we have no information for the player who can perform the function you are looking for. We can only suggest what to look for any media player that may able to do using your search engine preferred.

  • Windows Media Player cannot play the videos

Since the last 2 months I find that my Windows Media Player cannot play the videos. After having tried many, I installed the third-party Codec such as GOM Player, GOM DECODER and GOM converter on an experimental basis. For all its operation I installed that for the second time (test period = 1 month). Now, I found some unusual - the entire screen with prop-up Windows began to appear "foggy, unusually large screen, Visuality fuzzy." So GOM was 'uninstalled' in the menu 'program & feature. When he learned from the Microsoft Forum I installed k - lite Codec system. Now, some of my videos recorded under 'Image' menu works fine. But the videos stored in the "library" of WMP is not reacting. I need your advice. Again, in a prop-up window of K-Lite has asked to opt feither for: (i) (ii) repairs, (Iii) remove or change. I opted for changing file Windows Vista Codec - was the selection was appropriate? Should I opt for Vista Codec file repair?

    Hi Sam,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi Shelby Reyes,

Welcome to the Microsoft community. I understand that windows media player gets stuck in video but audio continues very well. I'll help you with this problem.

    1. What is the brand and model of the computer?

    2. have you made changes on the computer recently?

    3. what security software is installed on the computer?

    4. how much free space is available on the hard disk?

    Method 1.

Try to use the Troubleshoot utility to see if that solves the problem.

    a. open the troubleshooting Windows Media Player settings Troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel.

    (b) in the search box, type "Troubleshooting" and then click Troubleshooting.

    c. click on show alland then click the Windows Media Player settings.

You can update the video card driver and check.
