  • Windows Media Player 11 won't start.

I use Windows XP 32 bits in a corperate environment, each system is affected whether Dell or HP. I get the error "using Windows Media Player, log off from Windows, log back in and then start Windows Media Player.

Now the first thing I need to talk is uninstall WMP11 and reinstallation DOES NOT WORK DO. I uninstalled and reinstalled in every imaginable way, even using the 3rd party program to uninstall the registry files and clean up the remnants of the C drive.

After the relocation, the program works very well, BUT after 1 restart then amounts to giving this error. It seems no disernable it model.

I am now at a loss to know what to do and the policy of the company that I work for prohibits the installation of all except program media WMP11 (this includes the VLC multimedia player), any help would be appreciated.

  • Win Media Player is missing in my menu start thru 'operator error '...

How can I restore Win Media Player back in my list of programs under start?  I inadvertently deleted (apparently) when you try to create a desktop icon and I had rather not to use the restore function.  Now, the only way I can access is to play my music library, so I don't know WMP is there, but it is not "visible".  HELP, please...

Thank you much for the help.  The only thing not completed would add WmPlayer list under programs in the start menu, but I can live with that.

  • Win Media Player can play avi files

I used to play avi. the files that I created in the first without any problem with Win media player... For some reason, win Media Player does not play the avi. files, while files can be run in Gom or Quicktime player. the files are not corrupt, just win media player is the problem. It happened one day where I created several files in Adobe premiere and try to see things end up in win media player.

I have to solve this problem as soon as POSSIBLE, I've looked online. Unable to find an answer.

    Thank you

    Hi ijudge,

Welcome to the Microsoft answers community site.

Option 1: Change the default to player. AVI files. Follow the steps in the link to find out how to change that uses default Windows programs and Windows Media Player as default for. AVI files.

    Option 2: Download updated Codec

If the problem persists probably you try to play a file that uses a codec that is corrupt. When you try to play a file that uses a codec that is not on your computer, the Player tries to download the codec from a Microsoft server. If the codec is available, the player installed on your computer, and then bed file. If the codec is not available on the server (for example, because the codec has not been created by Microsoft), the player displays a message stating that your computer is missing a codec.

If you are connected to the Internet, the message is usually a help button on the Web you can click for more information. If the player can determine which codec you are missing, when you click this button, a help topic is displayed and contains a link to WMPlugins.com, a Web site that lists a number of codecs that are available for download. DivX and MPEG-2 video codecs and audio ACELP.net and Ogg Vorbis codecs are examples of codecs that are not included in the operating system or the default player.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/codecs-frequently-asked-questions

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/FAQ/codec.mspx

Option 3: You can check for errors in Event Viewer - How to display errors in the event viewer and return to the rear to correlate any further on this issue.

You can view the log at the time the accident occurred, or you can recreate the crash for more information. Here is an article on what information is available in the Event Viewer Log file: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

Let me know if it works. Good luck!

    Hope this information is useful.

    Hi Ron,

I apologize for the late response.

What is the brand and model of the computer?

I suggest that you download from the website of the manufacturer of the computer display driver and install it in the computer.

If the display driver for Windows 8 is not released by the manufacturer, and then install the latest version of the driver in compatibility mode and check.

Make the programs more compatible with this version of Windows

  • Windows media player crashes when you start cd play

When I insert a CD in windows media player, screen freezes when cd starts playing and the sound is chopy.

    Hi RonnieDean,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. Are you experiencing a similar problem with a CD you are trying to play using Windows media player?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

See the link below and run the fixit tool available, check if it helps.

Solve the problems of Windows Media Player video and other media or library

OK, I GOT AN UPDATE, these WMA files are sitting on a shared folder on a server.  Windows media player 9 is able to burn them without a problem. Windows Media Player 11 cannot until I have copy the files to the local disk.

If this is a XviD file... you probably need
    the XviD codec.

This can be checked by using the free software GSpot:

    Download GSpot

    (left-click the text: "Download GSpot")
    (on the next screen...
    left click: 'Download [GSpot 2.70]')

You don't have to install it... unxip just the file and
    GSpot.exe left click to launch.
