  • Windows Live Mail does not present as an option for default programs or in the Start Menu.

Something happened this week. I can't identify enough exactly when so I can't say with certainty whether or not it is the new update of 2011.

I use Windows Live Mail (desktop application) for the mail. It is installed and since I built the machine first. I've recently updated for 2011 through Windows Update. In the Start Menu, the default e-mail link no longer works. If I go to customize, I have the options of Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, and Outlook. If I select Windows Live Mail, it launches a web browser to go to live.com and use Hotmail (which I don't use).

Now, if I choose Windows Mail, and then re - open Windows Live Mail manually, I can set it by default. In this case, when I go back into the Start Menu, the link is there but empty and you get a message that "the selected item is not available. It might have been moved, renamed, or deleted. You want to remove from the list? "I can't get around that. Under "Default programs" in the Control Panel, Windows Live Mail is not yet there. It's as if she is not yet installed, and whatever the shortcut points to (wherever it may be) is apparently nothing. In the registry, under HKLM/Software/customers/Mail, there is no key for 'DLLPath' and "LocalizedString" as there are other programs.

I must point out that repair installation does not help and neither does file and reinstalling.

I managed to solve the problem.  I received an email from another user and I'm sorry to say, I do not remember what were the instructions in the email.  The answer to (y) our problem used to exist on the web, until Microsoft has removed the old answers live site, or something like that.

IIRC, I believe that it was fixing the misdirected registry keys.

  • Satellite A200 - 15l HDD not no projection in the start menu

Hello everyone, I have a confusing question, on which I would like to get feedback...

I recently had to change the video cable in this model, nice simple job without having to extract the whole motherboard. However later, the system is unable to display HARD drive of choice of start menu and will not boot to the HARD drive.

The disc shows perfectly fine in the bios and is fully accessible on another computer.

What is confusing to me, is that the work had nothing to do with the part of the Board HARD disk, the only interaction I had with her was to remove the disk then plug it in again later. My first thought was maybe the joint on the SATA connection was broken, but then if that were the case it wouldn't show the car brand and model in the Bios?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

    > My first thought was maybe the joint on the SATA connection had become broken, but if that were the case, that it does not show the drive make and model in the Bios?

The HARD drive is on the first page of the BIOS with details such as the name and size of the HARD drive?
If so, it means that BIOS correctly recognizes the HARD disk.

In this case I would try to turn on the unit and press F12
Now the start menu should appear on the display containing all bootable devices
The HARD drive is listed here?

    Hi Homersit,

What is the result of the second Fixit?

    Method 1:

You can read the article and try to run a disk check.

How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

When you run the disk check, there are chances of losing the data that you can take a backup before running the disk check.

    Method 2:

You try to open the Task Manager and then try to Search.

    a. click new task.

    b. in the create task dialog box, click Browse, locate and select the program that you want to start, click Open, and then click OK.

    c. or type the name of the program, a document, or a folder, and then press ok.

Also check if there is a particular process, using all the resources at the time of the question.

  • Post-it Note, Snipping Tool, Sound Recorder etc missing from the Start Menu

Some integrated programs have suddenly disappeared in the folder 'Accessories' in the Start Menu, including sticky notes, Snipping Tool, Sound Recorder, and record Tablet PC Tools was empty too and maybe even more than programs that I do not know. (I don't know why this happened, the only reason why I can think of is maybe I fell a development of my antivirus program).

I looked online for solutions, I tried:

-Option unchecking and rechecked the "Tablet PC Tools' of the 'Turn Windows has or not', which bought only the programs in the Tablet PC Tools in the Start Menu folder, but not the Post-it Notes and other

-Restore to an earlier point, but did not work

-Enter sfc/scannow in the command prompt but it has said is that Windows has no problems of integrity or something after scanning and solves nothing

The programs are always there, I found 3 of them in C:/Windows/System32 as exe files and they work from there, but they just will not be displayed in the Start Menu or when I do a search. I don't know what else is missing. Is it possible to bring them back in the start menu? Would be fixed it with a factory reset? - but I don't really want to do a factory reset, unless I am out of options.

    Help would be much appreciated!

A factory reset would, but that's certainly an exaggeration just to restore shortcuts.

A colleague MVP of my friends has released a download of all the default shortcuts in Windows 7 and has instructions on how to retrieve it here:

  • Pin a network to the start menu shortcut

Everyone figured out how to pin a netwrok to the start menu shortcut?  I tried to do it the way they say it, right click and select PIN to start menu, but the option is not there for programs on the network.  I was able to find Documents and Settings/User/StartMenu and I dropped the military in there, but they are not yet appearing on the start menu.  Help, please.
    Thank you
    Jessica

Create a folder on your desktop called networking programs or files, and then drag the icons for the files or programs in there.  You can then create a new toolbar by right-clicking on the taskbar, go to toolbars and add the new toolbar.  From there, all just point to your folder on your desktop and the appropriate files will appear in your taskbar tasks.  It's not pretty, but it works.

  • Determine the target of the shortcut in the Start Menu

I have shortcuts to folders in my Start Menu.  They seem to be of two different types, judging by their icons, although I don't know what circumstances lead to one type over the other.

The 'good' type have icons that look like a single file.  I can pull up to its properties, the image of a folder appears with a small arrow in the lower left corner and there is a target field showing the trajectory of the target.

The 'bad' type have icons that look like a single file with a preview of the content.  I can pull up the properties, the picture shown is always a file with preview and there isn't * no. * Target field showing the trajectory of the target.

For both types, if I go down the shortcuts, the path in the address bar is not the true path, it's a false path that looks like it branches in the Start Menu (where the shortcut is) i.e. c:\Documents and Settings\Ma.F\Start Menu\TheShortCutName.  Two shortcuts are in folders on a network drive.

    1. How can I get the path of the target for the 'wrong' type of shortcuts?
    2. Is it possible to have the address field display the actual path instead of making it look like the folder is located in the Start Menu?

My mistake.  Records that have not shortened * resident in the Start Menu.  They contain simply other shortcuts or folders of shortcuts.  Answer to the question #1.

So, if I go down the shortcuts, the actual path of the target * is * displayed in the address bar.  Who responds to question #2.

It doesn't seem to be a way to cancel a thread in this forum.  I'm sorry that this erroneous thread drag.

    Try https://support2.microsoft.com/mats/system_maintenance_for_windows/

If this doesn't help not try to reset the start menu by default:

    1. Right-click on the Start button and click on properties.

    2. Click the Start Menu tab, and then click Customize.

    3. In the Customize Start Menu dialog box, click on use settings by default, click OK, and then click OK again.

  • New app twice in the start menu pinning

    Hello

I use the tablet of Microsoft Surface RT and I would like to know if it is possible to pin an application twice on the start menu. I would have a bing daily (News) app configured to the United States and a different pin bing daily app configured in another country in the menu start.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you very much!

    Hello MxVM,

    Thank you for the question!

I'm sorry to know that have problems you with App. As I understand it, you need to know if an application can be twice pinned to the start menu.

Unfortunately the two instances of a single application can not be pinned to the start menu.
