Storage capacity of the material shows less LUN capacity

We have created a 350 GB LUN (shown as 349,9 GB in the SAN management software). When it is presented to the host of the ESXi5, the ability is showing that 325,96 GB. This is about a difference of 25GB, which willl add up while we present more LUNS. Is this normal? ESXi resembles the LUN capacity differently than does the SAN?

Thank you very much in advance for any help. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Your SAN management software not interpret "350GB" as a binary multiple (2 ^ 10) but as a multiple of base 10 (10 ^ 3), so it has a LUN with a size of 350000000000 bytes. ESXi, like any good piece of software, using binary notation, which means 350000000000 equal to 326 G 'binary' (i) B bytes

  • Visible data VMFS store on 3 of the 6 armies. 3 the remaining hosts see LUNS, status is mounted, but the data store is not visible.

As the title suggests, all hosts see LUNS... can't understand the question. Here is a shot of the vmkernel.log captured from the server, as it was a new analysis (which translates into a loop of activity in the log file and hard + 10 minutes without change for storage).

The SAN is preesnting LUN and successfully... so it must be on the host side. In an act of desperation, yesterday I reinstalled ESXi on a troubled host. He was able to see the data stores. Today, they were more visible.

Thanks in advance for any help.

How much free space is a iPhone? Use the settings app to find out.

Settings > General > storage > storage section is at the top.

Did you remove photos from the film? If so, the photos transferred from the recently deleted album. They can remain there for 30 days allow for their recovery. But if you need to free up space on the iPhone you should remove again the album photos recently deleted.

  • Help, please! Trendy laptop, do not load, storage capacity of the portable computer is low...

I have a HP Envy Ultrabook, who settled with Windows 7.  When I tried to turn it on today, it not light.  I think it was just short of battery connected and received the message, "the system has detected the following battery storage capacity is very low.»  For optimal performance the battery may need to be replaced. »

Once logged into my account, I noticed that the battery was "connected, but does not charge."  I tried many remedies online, as the battery method Microsoft ACPI compatible control the uninstalling and turning and turn it on again.  But nothing seems to work.  I even checked to see if it was a problem with Windows 7, and I saw that Windows 7 eats battery life very quickly, but I don't think it happened the day after like me did it.  I was able to use it for 4 hours without recharge yesterday until my battery has reached 10%.

Please help me.  I've only had my laptop for 6 months now, way earlier than my 1 year warranty, and I was able to use my laptop, unplugged, for a good 4 hours until today.  Why is did this happen all of a sudden?

Another thing I might add is, I tried to upgrade to Windows 8, but I ended up doing a pause the download and I closed out of the window without leaving Windows 8 download.  But it's the only thing I can think that it is out of the ordinary.

Looks like I couldn't do something for myself, I had to send to HP for repair, laptop now upwards and being run, but thanks for the help all who responded!

  • Create a user defined storage capacity - apply to the storage of data / profile

    Nice day

Im hoping that I don't need to re - invent the wheel here.

Someone has already written a script or scripts that perform the following steps

    (1) create a user-defined storage capacity

    (2) create a storage with the capacity of the newly created profile

    (3) assign this new capacity to a data store.

If anyone has created a script to do this, anyone happen to know what API objects would be involved, I can't find in the browser of the API.

    Hello

Check this thread for a few examples around groups of data store: http://communities.vmware.com/message/2147437#2147437

In addition, unfortunately the other necessary methods and objects to use with StorageProfiles not available in the public API for vCenter, and so there is also no appearance of them in vCO :-(

    You can check with Onyx...

I recommend you file a feature request for this. (You are not first)...

    See you soon,.

  • Avoid loss of data and to increase the storage capacity on EP T310

    Hi all

I am looking to increase the storage capacity on a PE T310. When I look in disk management it says C: virtual SCSI disk to 232 GB and 11.9 Gb free. Physically, I see 4 HDD connected when I look in the box. Don't know if its reading HARD drive all for or what how was set up that part of my problem. the OS is windows 7 and this I see that the internal controller is the SAS 6/IR. Essentially, this box is used as a centralized storage, but ideally as a server with shared resources. And Im very new to the RAID configuration and working with SCSI. I read the operators manual and I saw many capabilities that this server can do, but I'm not familiar with the activation of these functions.

    Issues related to the:

    1. How will I know which configurations have been implemented for storage?

    2. How can increase storage without losing any data?

    Please help.

    TY!

    >> 1. How will I know which configurations have been implemented for storage?

You will need to go into the bios of the controller (ctrl-c) to see how arrays are configured.  Software OpenManage won't work on Windows 7, only on server operating systems.  This controller supports RAID 0 and 1.

    >> 2. How can increase storage without losing any data?

You should have a second table available for storage.  This will be confirmed in the controller BIOS.

Let us know what is configured in the BIOS of the controller, and we can help you further.

    Kind regards

  • Calculate the material database

    Hi all

I'm new Oracle DBA in the industry, not a lot of experience in the database. I have some confusion. Maybe it's stupid question but this turning point in my mind. Please help to solve these.

    (1) for new projects comes, I'm confusing all cache/RAM required and CPU. Although I can calculate the capacity of the hard drive.  for example - my Application user say we have total TPS (transactions per second) is 1000 (200 update, delete 300, 100 and 200 insertion selects), so in this case how can I calculate hardware capacity, and how I can answer for them.

    (2) this is the reverse of the first question.  Suppose a database running, and everything works fine. I want to calculate the GST (transactions per second). means how select/update/insert/delete running in the second. How to calculate or identified TPS.

    Thanks in advance...

    Oracle Capacity Planning

    Introduction - Database management

The best way to perform the Oracle capacity planning is with planningsof the worksheet of the ability of the Oracle. Database management has increased over the years to the simple management of a few tables and indexes to a complex of interlocking responsibilities ranging from management of objects of database to participate in decisions large enterprise on hardware, software and development tools.

In order to fully discharge these functions the modern Oracle DBA needs one big together skills. In the last hours, we will discuss the skills needed, and specifically how they apply to an Oracle DBA.

    Capacity planning system

In a green field operation (the one where you're here in front of the equipment and the database), a DBA will have a critical role to play in planning and configuration of the new system. Even in existing environments the ability to predict new servers, new databases, or improvements to existing databases and systems is crucial.

Essentially the DBA should be concerned with two main questions:

    1. Get enough server to ensure an adequate return
    2. Sufficient backup and power of recovery for backup and restoration carried out respecting the time constraints required.

All this is actually under the heading planning resources and capabilities. Resources and capacity planning Oracle is a database intensive resources system. The more CPU, memory and disk resources, you can provide Oracle, better it performs. Planning with Oracle resources becomes more a game of "How can we afford to buy" instead of "what is the minimum configuration. A minimally configured Oracle server won't work effectively. Specification of resource for Oracle In the specification of resources, there are several questions that should be answered.

    1. How many users will use the system today and in the future?
    2. Data will include the system contain both now and in the future, we don't know the growth rate?
    3. What response time are expected?
    4. The availability of this system is planned?

    Why are these issues important?

    1. How many users will use the system today and in the future?

This issue is important, because it effects how much processing power is going to be necessary. The number of users will determine the number and speed of the processors, memory, the related network configuration size.

    1. Data will include the system contain both now and in the future, we don't know the growth rate?

This issue is important because it determines the disk needs, how much storage will need to take the data we have today and how it will be necessary for the growth. The answer to this question also allows to determine how much memory will be needed.

    1. What response time are expected?

This question is important because it pushes the number, type and speed of CPU resources, but also of network problems. He will lead also issues such as the number and speed disk configuration disks, number and speed of the controllers, disk partitioning decisions.

    1. The availability of this system is planned?

This question is important because the availability of the system grows the type of RAID (1, 0, 0/1, RAID5) configuration, the type of scheduled backup (cold, warm) and parallel server problems. Requirements change if all that is expected is the system to be available during business hours from Monday to Friday, or if the system is supposed to be available 24 X 7 seven days a week. This also leads the type of backup media, be it a single tape drive is all that is necessary or is it a hi-speed, tape-stacker, multichannel, solution based silo?

To properly perform a capacity planning cooperative efforts should be made between system administrators, database administrators, and network administrators.

Step 1: Size of the Oracle database

A starting point for the whole process of capacity planning is to know how many and what size, databases will be based on a given server resource. The physical size of the tables, indexes, clusters, and LOB storage areas will play an essential role in the sizing of the overall database, including areas of shared global memory and disk farm. DBAS and developers must work together in order to properly size the physical files of the database. The design of the database will also lead the placement and the number of storage spaces and other resources of database such as the size and quantity of newspapers of recovery, rollback segments and their associated buffers.

Typically areas of buffer of data to an LMS database block size out to between 1/20 to 1/100 the physical sum relative to the total number of database file sizes. For example, if the physical size of the database is 20 gigabytes the database block buffers should on about 200 megabytes to 1 gigabyte in size depending on the how the data is used. In most cases the LMS shared pool would be size out to about 20-150 megabytes maximum according to the usage model for the common areas of SQL (see next lesson). For a system of 20 gigabytes the redo logs would most likely run between 20 and 80 megabytes, you want mirrored volumes and probably not less than 5 groups. The pad of paper to support a 50 megabyte redo log file would be a minimum of 5 megabytes may be as large as 10 megabytes. The last major factor for BMG would be the size of the sorting box, for this size of a database, a sort of 10 to 20 megabytes field is on the right (according to the number and size of all kinds). Remember that sort areas can be a part of the shared pool or a part of the large pool, so we'll cover in a future lesson.

So on that basis we've determined? Gives a choice of 400 megabytes for our size memory buffer of data block, 70 megabytes for the shared pool, buffers of the newspaper of 4 to 10 MB (40 MB) and a size of 10 megabytes sort field. We look at a megabyte of 500-600 LMS with the important factors of non - DBA added in. Since you are not supposed to use more than 60% of the physical memory (according to the interviewee) it means w will need at least a gigabyte of RAM. With this size of database a single UC probably won? t give enough performance so we are probably looking at least a 4-processor machine. If we have more than one instance installed on the server, the memory requirements will increase.

Step 2: Determine the number and Type of users:

Of course, a database of a user will require fewer resources than the user database of a thousand. Generally, you will need to take a LOOT at how many memory resources and drive each user will need. An example would be to assume that a user installed 1,000 users base, only 10 percent of them at the same time will use the database. That leaves 100 concurrent users, those who perhaps a second 10 percent will do the activity requiring sorting areas, this brings the number up to 10 users each use (in our previous example) 10 megabytes of memory each (100 MB). In addition each of the 100 users simultaneous need about 200 k of space (depending on the activity, BONE, and other factors) process so there is an additional charge of 20 megabytes just for the user process space. Finally, each of these users will require probably some amount of disk resource (or less if they are client-server or web-based) let? s give them 5 meg of disk to start each, which adds up to 5 gigabytes of disk (give or take a meg or two.)

Step 3: Determine the hardware requirements for the required response time meet and support of user Support:

This step is the system administrator and maybe the seller of equipment. Given our mix of 1000:100:10 users and any required response time numbers, they should be able to configure a server that will obtain good results. Usually, this will require several, interfaces multi-lane disks and several separate physically the drive bays.

Step 4: Determine the material backup to support the requirements of availability required:

Here again the admin system and hardware vendor will have a helping hand in the decision. Based on the size of the disks and the speed of the maximum recovery time backup solution should be developed. If there is no way to meet your requirements of availability required using backup schemas simple more esoteric architectures can be specified as strips of multiple channels, hot databases in standby or even Oracle Parallel Server. Let? s say we need a requirement of availability 24 X 7 with instant failover (no recovery time because of the critical nature of the mission of the system). This type of specification would require Oracle Parallel Server in a configuration of automated failover. We also use either a double or triple mirror on disk so that we could divide the mirror to perform backups without losing the protection of mirroring.

Let? s compile what we have determined so far:

Material: 2-4 CPU (for higher-speed CPU we can) with at least 1 gigabyte (preferably 2) of RAM shared, at least 2 disk controllers each with many channels, 90 gigabytes of disk resource using a three way mirror to give us a matrix to mirror a triple 30 concert. The systems themselves should have a sufficient internal disk subsystem to support the operating system and the swap and the requirements of pagination. Systems must be able to share the disk resources so should support clustering. High-speed tape backup to minimize the folding times mirror.

Software: Oracle Parallel Server, Cluster, the network management software, software backup management software to support backup material.

Capacity and resource planning is not an exact science. Basically, look for a moving target. Dual Pentium II 200 NT Server with 10 GB of 2 GB SCSI disks for $5 k, I bought 2 years ago has a modern equivalent in the Pentium III 400 with the builtin 14 concert my father-in-law just bought for $1 k. At the time where we specify and purchase of a system, it is already replaced. You should insist on power substitute options more effective, more inexpensive they are available during the phases of specification and procurement.

  • Maximum storage capacity for RN316

I know there are other topics covering this, but not for the model, I am interested to. I notice conflicting information on what maximum storage capacity, are supported by the RN316. For example, looking at the Datasheet on the Netgear product site, it shows the RN316 supports up to 60 TB and is expandable up to 128 TB with external units.

    https://www.NETGEAR.com/home/products/connected-storage/RN316.aspx#tab-TechSpecs

Here, the graph shows however differently (hoping it is exceeded). According to this, the same model only supports 24 TB of max and is expandable up to 64 TB with external units.

    http://KB.NETGEAR.com/app/answers/detail/A_ID/7010/~/ReadyNAS%3A-expansion?CID=wmt_netgear_organic

In addition, said Amazon list it has a limit of 4 TB of each Bay, but hard drive compatibility shows that it supports 8 to even 6-disc (including TB WD drives Red 6 I ordered). So I'm a bit confused.

Are the limits of capacity related to older hardware, or is it something that is been upgraded over time through updates firmware for the ReadyNAS OS 6? I bought six to 6-disc for my RN316 and intend to use RAID6 - up to 36 TB of physical capacity and capability real/loglcal to 24. Can anyone confirm if this configuration would be supported by this model? Thank you

When the RN316 came out 6 TB discs were not available. Once we were able to test and qualify the and add all the necessary improvements to the firmware works well with them, we were able to add 6 to discs to the compatibility list.

10 TB disks start to become available now. Regarding which models will be tested against this ability or to work with, it remains to be seen.

  • I rigged a storage capacity... Please help me!

In short, I increased the LUN on the SAN to 3 TB (call it A) and told me now that VMFS 5.54 only supports up to 2 TB, the question is therefore, in my frantic state how I'd get things to the way it was (which becomes full and why I'm here now trying to reclaim space on the San to give an another 2 TB LUN) seamlessly and without interruptions (is this possible?), keep in mind that we are running vSphere Essentials 5, more so not storage vMotion, and please forgive my ignorance...

    1. create a new 2 TB LUN (B).

    2. stop on A VMs

    3. move the contents of the data 3 TB LUN (A) store to the newly created data LUN (B) store above

    4. destroy the 3 TB (A)

    5. create an another LUN TB 2 (C) to use as we needed more space in a first time...

5 tada? who is? I don't think right and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Kent

The maximum size of the file is referred to (for example virtual disk files) files on VMFS data store. BTW. the 2 TB limitation (less than 512 bytes) has been removed with vSphere 5.5 and the maximum file size is 62 TB now.

    André

PS: To create larger virtual disks that you will need to use the vSphere Web Client!

  • Need help to choose the material

I'm creating a new editing machine I want to use after effect, photoshop, flash, illustrator and 3ds max. I do a lot of animation 2d and 3d, video editing and graphic design.

It is the system that I'm currently planing on building:

Processor: intel core i7 2600 k (I'll be overclocking it to about 4.8 ghz)

    Motherboard: Asrock p67 extreme6

    Memory: G.Skill ripjaws x series 16 GB ddr3 1600 case latency 7

    Graphics card: Gtx 570

Power supply: Rosewill bronze series 1000w

    Hard drive: 4 x Corsair F120 in raid 0 (120gX4)

    Case: Bitfenix collosus

CPU cooler: Noctua Nh - d14

I have a budget of $2500 for this computer. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on things should change / recommend a completely different version for my budget.

Also, I was wondering if the gtx 570 is a stupid choice and I should get a quadro 2000 instead. I don't do any game.

One last thing, do 4 ssd in raid 0 helps not at all or should I just get 8 HDD in raid 10 or I should spend less money on hard drives.

PS I know that the i7 2600 k was recalled but I'm in no hurry to build this computer. Also, feel free to recommend the hardware that has not yet been published, but will probably be in the next 8 months.

PSS all programs I listed are CS5.

A Quadro 2000 is not worth the money. The GTX 470/570 is more powerful and more attractive price.

SSD for storage don't deliver performance gains, but deliver an empty wallet. SSD for the OS disk do a little faster loading of programs, for the rest that they have no advantage.

With potentially 8 disks for a raid array, I would not opt for a raid 10.

    Storage
    Assuming that 1000GO records
    Number of disks net TB
    Approximate transfer rate (MB/s)
    RAID 10 8 4 350 - 400
    RAID 3 8 7 600 - 660
    RAID 5 8 7 600 - 660
    RAID 6 8 6 480 - 550

The table above assumes raid controllers. Software raid or embedded raid are significantly slower.

RAID 3 or 5 lets you almost double the storage capacity and a much better performance. However the P67 platform does not allow that, unless the video card works at speed nearly half (8 x instead of 16 x).

  • Why don't my used by applications of storage is not the total storage used?

My iPhone 5 c with the most recent update says I use Go 4.9 out of 5. However, the storage of my apps meet don't add to that. It only concerns me if the gap was not so great. Currently, after you have added the app storage capacity, I use only MB 982,352. Whenever I get to 5GB my phone starts to act up, me locking out apps to keep me from using a storage capacity anymore, when I should have 4 GB.

Does anyone know what the cause of this problem and how to fix it? It's really starting to stress out me. Any information is helpful and appreciated.

The iOS itself uses about 3 GB, but you can have deeper problems. Connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes and check that its use downstairs bar. If other and D & D are large you may have a corrupt system and will have to do a restore to solve.
