Strange signs in front of doc file

What does the sign sciggle in front of a name doc.

Hello

If you mean the ~ character, is a temporary document used by Word, a document with almost the same name is open. When Word of the original, the ~ file normally gets deleted. But if Word or Windows ends abnormally these files can be left in the file system. Most of the people would not see them because they work without showing the files and folders hiddden. My guess is that you don't have.

  • $ sign in front of the files in my documents

    Hello world

We have users that claims these files of various types, preceded by a $ 'appear' in the folder my documents.

These don't seem to be of the ~ files lock $ you seem sometimes to MS Office (and some are clearly of pdf), etc. And I'm empty, search the Web for an answer to come. The user is working remotely, so I have not had the opportunity to open again (which may or may not be useful), but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before, or have clues as to where they come from?

  • Since installing open Office 4.0 I can't open .doc files on the fly, used to work before.

I've recently upgraded to Open Office 4.0. Now can't open Thunderbird .doc attachments. Can I download the disk and open in Open Office Writer with food office or Windows Explorer in the usual way. I checked the tools/options/attachments and it is set to Open Office Writer. I think that's not relevant, but when I had Open Office 3.0, I've had writer defined as a separate program, but now I use just the master front-end server.

Works OK with .pdf or .jpg files.

just remove the entry from the windows of the spare part and then try and open a doc file. The entry will be recreated using your answers.

I'm guessing that the existing Writer is not the correct writer.

  • laptop 11: download doc files

My son's computer crashed and had to reset it. Update Windows defender set and firewall on. I can't put Norton back on it and it won't let me open the doc files. He needs it for school. Any help on download Norton and kick-off windows Defender? Any ideas how to power download docs? Thank you all

Please tell us which browsers and the specific versions that you are using.

I use four different browsers (depending on the OS, I'm running and I have to do with the browser), and I noticed recently that Chrome has changed its default value on downloading files - ALL files I downloaded was the same scenario that yours--would complement the download, then I got an error about the site being suspicious and the download has been removed.  Once I found the security settings and changed, the problem stopped.

So, I would look at the security settings in the browsers that you use and disable all that automatically prevents the download of suspicious sites or the types of suspicious files.

    Good luck

  • How to shorten the part of the default value of doc addresses of doc files.

I am applying for a job asking me to combine my 5 University and College transcribed into a single file/doc (which I shortened tp "TomsTranscripts.pdf" bu th employers site tool to enter this doc from my doc files allows only 50 characters.) Problem is, there is a verbose prefix to all my docs.  However C: / Documenta and settings... and lots of extra words that determine the path to my doc of the target.  I learned to shorten the default address. How?  Without losing the path.

    Hello

You can copy the document from the place where it is located and paste it on in another location on the hard drive (to create a new folder on the drive and the displacement of the document).

For example: C: / documents and Settings/user name / my documents / document name.doccopy the document, and then place the document from this location at C:/new folder / document name.doc

    It will be useful.

Your Windows XP question is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for the IT Pro TechNet public. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows XP forum.

  • .doc file messed up in Windows Mail

I received an attachment in windows mail which is a .doc file.  When I tried to open it, it is all messed up.  There are just a bunch of symbols and letters are all foires.  Can I do to solve this problem?

You have Microsoft Word installed? A .doc file is a Microsoft Word file and you need the program to open it. Looks like you're opening in Wordpad or another program that can not read MS Word files.

If you don't have Word installed and don't want to buy it, you can:

    1. download and install the free MS Word Viewer from Microsoft. This will allow you to view MS Word files, but not to change them.

    2. download and install the suite free OpenOffice which will open/read/write program formats Microsoft Office.
