strategy of redo and control files

Excuse my ignorance in this area (not oracle or a DBA), but from a risk perspective, I read his best practices for storing a redundant copy of recovery logs and control files on a separate disk / server - for redundancy.

However, if the server is a server database physical, with local storage (in which case files of database and the oracle software resides), no configuration of cluster if the server dies a sudden death, then what exactly are the newspapers redundant recovery and control of files will save you of? Is it to minimize the loss of data, or else (told you I wasn't a DBA or Oracle guru). If you back up your recovery connects dialy then I don't know what exactly the redundant copies really are for/record you leave?

So if the server dies (and the storage is still ok) and then transport the storage to another server and you are in business again. Multiplexing or not does not change your ability to use another server.

In a disaster situation, where you lose the server and the storage is also lost, so you have to go to a backup and multiplexing saves you from what it is because the backup has only 1 copy of the controlfile and archivelogs.

If you get a logical corruption (IE a bug in the software) with controlfiles multiplex, then you're still screwed because all controlfiles are physical copies of each other, so all controlfiles have the same corruption. In this case, you must go to a good backup of the controlfile.

Multiplexing allows you to save when you get corruption Physics (due to the corruption of storage) of your command multiplex or multiplex redo logs file, and so you can use the good copy of the file control or redo logs to continue without losing the validated data.

    Here, I tried the following

    created a new table called t2 and made sure the data went to a specific tablespace...
    has taken a level 0 backup
    remove the control file
    couple of datafile to above tablespace was added and then insert more data
    then went out to restore the database... but datafile and control file always could not be open? What is wrong here...

    so can get us this or can't do?

    You seem to have:
    (a) old version of data through rman backup files
    (b) old version of the control file
    (c) Backed archived redo logs
    (d) recovery archived logs that have been recently generated
    (e) current online redo logs

    Therefore, you should be able to bring back the database in the State wherever it was when you made the abandonment.
    I don't do enough laps to be able to cite details on the commands to use (and I often find myself using the command line recovery after that file of rman restore, but the steps you need must be)

    Take a copy of security of the data current, archived and online redo log files.
    Restore the backup control file, data files, and archived recovery logs
    Recover the database by using up to cancel backup control file
    You have to do 'create datafile' bit as the collection hits the 'missing file' bit
    You will need to provide the names of the archived and log files online redo recovery reached their
    (although, presumably, you could leave copies of the logs stored in the default location)

  • Retrieve by using the backup control file

    Hello

    I was reading a book called Pro Oracle Database Administration by Darl Kuhn. There, under the theme of "The valuation of the loss of all control files", noted that all data files and control files are restored from a backup, because if we do not restore the data files the RCS in control files would be lower than the data in these scenarios files. Since online redo logs and archived newspapers is applied to the data files to roll forward in a current consistent state and does not roll forward to a control file.

    It is then mentioned to use 'recover the database by using the backup control file' then apply the logs (archive and redo if necessary).

    However I personally tested this script in a test environment and to bring all the backup control file could issue the same command as above and recover the database.

    My question is I know again and archives are applied only to the data files. So how does the control file are synchronized back when we do not restore the backup data files.

    Thank you

    If we do not restore the data files, the RCS in control files would be lower than the data files. Since online redo logs and archived newspapers is applied to the data files to roll forward in a current consistent state and does not roll forward to a control file.

    It would be incorrect you have determined. You can only restore the control files. You can manually create a control file and always do the restore.

    My question is I know again and archives are applied only to the data files. So how does the control file are synchronized back when we do not restore the backup data files.

    The control file is updated as well.

    See you soon,.

  • How can I specify location of the control file when the manual creation of DB?

    DB version: 11.2.0.4

    OS: Oracle Linux 6.6

    The CREATE DATABASE command creates the control file.

    CREATE DATABASE command is executed once you start the instance in NOMOUNT State as shown below.

    SQL > startup nomount pfile=$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initBRCPRD.ora

    SQL > create database 'BRCPRD '.

    MaxInstances 32

    MAXLOGHISTORY 1

    maxLogFiles 192

    maxlogmembers 3

    ..

    .

    .

    < snipped >

    When you create the database manually, we can define the control_files parameter in the init.ora as below and control file will be created at this location. Right?

    control_files = ("" / u01/oradata/BRCPRD/BRCPRD_control01.ctl","/u01/oradata/BRCPRD/BRCPRD_control02.ctl "")

    When I was generating the DB using DBCA GUI creation scripts, it asks to enter the location of the Online redo logs and control files.

    I entered my desired location. But, I couldn't find CONTROL_FILES parameter in the init.ora file generated the DBCA. This is why I got confused. I think that DBCA is internally somehow. So thought I'd post it here.

    Hi John, OP

    Just checked the init.ora file created by DBCA. Although the parameter CONTROL_FILES is undefined, db_create_file_dest = '+ DATA_DG1' was created. OMF default location is defined by the db_create_file_dest parameter.

    So, I could safely use this script for the manual creation of DB, and during the CREATE DATABASE command execution, oracle will place CONTROL_FILES + DATA_DG1 using the format;

  • We can to restore the content of a game without the backup control file?

    Hello

    I went in earlier today, a situation when someone (it wasn't me this time!):
    (1) a to back up a database and its archivelogs, in a compressed backup sets;
    (2) pushed the files to another server and
    (3) deleted everything on the server source, including ALL control files and control files.

    As he tried to recover the control file was missing and asked for help... I worked around the issue by using the snapshot controlfile he had forgotten (lucky me!)

    Now I can not remove from my mind the idea that I won't be so lucky the next time... I wonder if there is another way to work around this problem?

    Does anyone have an idea how to restore the contents of a backupset when we lack ALL control files and their backups? I tried to save the backup in the controlfile to a different database, but it does not work. I didn't find anyway to recreate a controlfile with a specific dbid without data files (and those who are in the backupset...).

    Any other idea? Best regards

    Hi arkzoyd,
    Is the only way to restore data from a backup set files using rman an instance and a controlfile so the answer is no.

    Hi all Experts,

    I m very sory for taking your time to a matter of very basic level. in fact, in my mind, I have a confusion about the DB buffer cache and the cache of log buffers
    My question is in the DB buffer cache are three types of dirty, pinned and free i-e data. and in Sales, they are all changed data data and are willing to empty in DBRW. and then he write data files.

    but again bufers also works for the CDC and all the changed data is temporaryliy chacheed bufers redo and the LGWR writes in the log files. and these data can be data are committed or not. and when the log switch is held, then it writes data to data files commited

    My question is that if a log file may have committed data type and stop and when a log switch takes place then only the data are committed are transferred to datafiles, then where are the data no go?

    If dirty pads also contain modified data so wath is the diffrence between the bufers and data log data incorrect.

    Hi all Experts,

    The first thing we do not mention this newspaper stamp in the log buffer cache. It won't make a difference to even call it that, but you should stick with the term normally used.

    My question is in the DB buffer cache are three types of dirty, pinned and free i-e data.

    Correction, it is the States of the buffer. These aren't the types. A buffer can be available in all of these three States. Also, note even when you would select a buffer, his first PIN before it can be given to you. Apart from this, there is a type more State called instant capture buffer aka CR (coherent reading) buffer that is created when a select query arrives for a buffer inconsitent.

    and in Sales, they are all changed data data and are willing to empty in DBRW. and then he write data files.

    Yes, that's correct.

    but again bufers also works for the CDC and all the changed data is temporaryliy chacheed bufers redo and the LGWR writes in the log files. and these data can be data are committed or not.

    That is partially right. The buffer which is written by DBWR in the data file is a full buffer while in the log buffer, it is not the entire block that is copied. Oracle enters the log buffer called vector of change . It's actually the representation of this change that you made in the data block. It is the internal representation of the change that is copied into the log block and is much smaller in size. The size of the buffer of paper compared to the buffer cache is much smaller. What you mentioned about the writing of written data room again or not committed is correct. His transactional change that needs to be protected and therefore is almost always written in the restore log file by progression of the LGWR.

    and when the log switch is held, then it writes data to data files commited

    Fake! To the command log, Checkpoint is triggered and if I'm wrong, its called point of control of thread . This causes DBWR write buffers dirty this thread in the data file regardless of whether or not they are committed.

    >

    My question is that if a log file may have committed data type and stop and when a log switch takes place then only the data are committed are transferred to datafiles, then where are the data no go?

    As I explained, it is not only the validated data are written to the file data but committed and not committed is written.

    If dirty pads also contain modified data so wath is the diffrence between the bufers and data log data incorrect.

    Read my response above where I explained the difference.

    I know that this can be funny. but I m maybe wrong abot the concept. Please correct my concept about this

    No sound is not funny, but make sure that you mix in anything else and understand the concept that he told you. Assuming that before understanding can cause serious disasters by getting the concepts clearly.

  • Additional panel in the panels and controls in the Panel generated .h file

    I have a sign in my project, it is called LO_LVL_PNL.

    The generated header file seems to think that there are more. Here is the 'Panels and controls' section on the generated header file:

    / * Panels and controls: * /.

    #define DITHER 1
    #define DITHER_CLOSE 2 / * callback function: DITHER_CLOSE_CB * /.
    #define DITHER_Dither_Settings 3 / * callback function: DITHER_CONTROL * /.

    #define LO_LVL_PNL 2
    #define LO_LVL_PNL_SENDBUTTON_2 2 / * callback function: DIDsBUTTONcb * /.
    #define LO_LVL_PNL_SENDBUTTON_3 3 / * callback function: EraseBUTTONcb * /.
    #define LO_LVL_PNL_SENDBUTTON_4 4 / * callback function: SENDBUTTON_noe_cb * /.

    #define LO_LVL_PNL_BINARYSWITCH 13 / * callback function: SetProgram * /.

    in my IUR I can find LO_LVL_PNL components, but not parts of DITHERING.

    Then, I renamed my generated header file, so it can regenerate without these additional items, but they get included when I recreate it.

    In the file of the UIR, if I double click on he Panel it opens and displays that the Panel is called LO_LVL_PNL.

    It started because I'm trying to read the value of a switch on the Panel, and in the call, I get a runtime error that follows:

    GetCtrlAttribute (LO_LVL_PNL, LO_LVL_PNL_BINARYSWITCH, ATTR_ON_VALUE, & on_off);

    NO MORTALS RUN - TIME ERROR: 'gui_handler.c', line 135, col 13, thread id 0x0000179C: library function error (return value ==-42 [0xffffffd6]). The handle is not a panel handle

    I don't know if it's two separate issues, or DITHER things cause the error; but I need help to fix both.

    The first parameter to GetCtrlAttribute() must be the handle Panel, not the ID of the Panel. The handle is returned by your LoadPanel() call.

    Do you already have a group called DITHERING? Copied from an earlier project, perhaps? Perhaps the editor of UIR has hidden or placed outside the screen. Try using the option editor find to see.

    Hi Angela,.

    Welcome to the Microsoft community forum. Let me help you with your concern.

    The security settings for the my document and other folders in the library will have complete control and the tick mark you are talking about will be by default on all Windows 7 computers. Some folders inside of it will be in read-only by default. You can remove by box to uncheck Read-only in the properties of the folder.

    Hi MAMARDA,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

    I would like to ask you a few questions in order to get a better understanding of this issue so that we can better help you.

    (a) what version of Windows 7 use you?

    (b) what is the exact error message you are getting?

    Method 1: You can also try to perform a file system (scan SFC) verification tool. This tool will fix the system files are corrupted.

    Scan SFC enforcement procedure:

    1. click on the Start button

    2. on the Start Menu, click all programs followed by accessories

    3. in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option

    4. in the drop-down menu that appears, click the "Run as Administrator" option

    5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will be asked permission before the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.

    6. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter

    7. a message is displayed to indicate that "the analysis of the system will start.

    8. be patient because the analysis may take some time

    9. If all the files need replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue

    10. If all goes although you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.

    11. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

    Method 2: If this is a recent problem that has developed you can try to perform a system restore and check if it works very well.

    To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next

    4. click on finish

    Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

    For more information, please follow the below given link:

    How to repair the operating system and how to restore the configuration of the operating system to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212/

    Method 3: you can try to start safe mode and restore the system, if you are unable to do it in normal mode.

    For a safe boot, you can follow the below given steps:

    1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

    Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    2. do one of the following:

    a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

    b. If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

    When you are in safe mode, follow the steps mentioned above to complete the restore of the system.

    Hope the helps of information.
    Please post back and we do know.

  • Control files and backup spfile

    Hi all

    This is a database of GR 11, 2. There is a running script to keep the full backup.

    crosscheck archivelog all;
    crosscheck backup;
    backup database;
    backup archivelog all delete input;
    delete noprompt obsolete;

    I checked the controlfile autobackup using - show controlfile autobackup.    and it is turned OFF

    But when I run - list backup of controlfile; list backup of spfile;

    I find that contolfile benefits from the support upwards and also through the above script spfile

    Can someone please explain to me how this happens without controlfile autobackup

    Thanks in advance

    This is a normal behavior on version 11.2 and beyond

    No matter if controlfile autobackup turned OFF, RMAN automatically includes the control file and the server settings file in the backups of data file1

    (i.e backup database command always include datafile 1 which trigger backup of control and spfile).

    You can not check controlfile corruption with DBVERIFY. If this error occurred in the alert.log then your controlfile actually corrupt. Instead this controlfile with copies multiplexes. And post there result of

     select name from v$controlfile
