Subnetting RV042

Hello

I'm trying to implement a subnet 2 with two routers RV042. A router will act as a bridge and the two WAN ports will be used by two different isp connection. The first router (gateway) IP LAN will be 192.168.0.1/24.

I also want to set up another router behind router modem with different subnet 192.168.1.X/24. And I would that the customers of the 192.168.1.x subnet that you want to use the internet through the gateway router and the 192.168.0.x subnet clients to access resources on the 192.168.1.x subnet. I am able to do it with two RV042?

  • RV042 several subnets

I have a race RV042 firmware more recent and I would

know if the following is possible:

I would like to have two subnets 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24

I would like to have DHCP available on both, with some static DHCP assignments on both.

I would like to have each subnet assigned to a port on the back of the router.

    Example:

You plug a laptop 1 Port, and you get an address like 192.168.1.xxx

You plug a laptop Port 2, and you get an address like 192.168.2.xxx

How I would make this happen?

    Hi Matt,

RV0XX routers support only port based VLAN. Multiple subnet feature allows the different subnet router to understand and communicate with them. The DHCP server can be configured to 1 single subnet. This goal would require an external DHCP service.

If you are looking for this feature as described, you can look in the router RV180.

  • On the subnet with RV042

    Good afternoon friends...

I have the RV042 router, I use that one single Connection Internet, I use the intellectual property of the group like this 192.168.95.x, my DHCP implementation using 192.168.95.120 to 192.168.95.240, but at this moment I have 245 jobs (maybe I'll get 25 additional workstations) and a few times I see conflict IP message in my current job positions.

I had heard about subnet as an answer to my problem, but I'm not sure which and how to make the subnet with my RV042.

Can you give me an idea about this...?

    Thank you very much.

    Rafael.

Rafael, you can use any subnet you want as 192.168.94.1 the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

  • RV042 subnet separation problems...

Hi all, I have my RV042 with 2 subnets 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0 and I neet a way to block traffic between...

Welcome to the community of Cisco.

If possible could you give us a little more information. If you could explain how the two networks are connected as there is a managed switch, are these subnets of a VIRTUAL LAN, which is the IP address of the gateway for each netwrok and so on.

There are a ways efw we can prevent a subnet to talk to each other, a solution would be by creating an ACL in the router, but this only works if the directly managed router traffic between networks. In other words, if we do not use a Layer 3 switch for example.

If the router handles all the traffic, then you should be able to do something like this:

Note that the range is for all IP addresses. If the IP of the router is this range you block yourself.

    Hope this has helped.

  • Two RV042 VPN has been a problem to get to the third-party router

Hello, I have two RV042 connected via VPN very well.    First network let's call A.A.A.A Second network have also RV042 to B.B.B.253.   B.B.B. network, we have Cisco router another provider to B.B.B.254.    On this second network configuration on B.B.B.253 (our default gateway) saying that all traffic will C.C.C.C I have routing tables (just an IP address not a subnet) must pass through the router Cisco at B.B.B.254 and the location of B.B.B.B works well.

What I'm trying to accomplish, is the unique through the RV042 VPN network A.A.A.A than when I go to C.C.C.C of IP address and get passed out through B.B.B.254 (Cisco of the seller).   I had the seller put the roads in their router to be able to deliver the A.A.A.A network and can ping on both networks.   Specifically, I can ping from A.A.A.A to B.B.B.254.   However, I would like to install my on A.A.A.A routing tables so that whenever someone goes to the unique address of C.C.C.C it passed through the VPN to the B.B.B.254.   All my efforts have failed.   I do not exclude the seller screwed up somewhere, but have been working on this all day and am running out of ideas.  It's for all the suggestions and thanks for any help!

    Concerning

It is not possible. The RV042 using a simple IPSec VPN Tunnel tunnel. Plain IPSec has routable interfaces. You cannot add static routes to handle additional traffic through the tunnel. IPSec will be tunnel only traffic that matches local & remote security groups. Because C.C.C.C is not part of a security group that he will not get in the tunnel.

  • Problem with RV0042 - mask subnet/router/gateway?

    Hi guys.

I have a DSL here in Holland. To use my RV042 VPN function, I need the router to get the IP of the DSL modem. No problem, I bought a modem that can define transparant and with dhcp-parody the modem Gets the public ip address (say 85.223.12.34).

The thing is, I can't access the internet, or in fact any IP that isn't in the first segment of the external IP address. So I can reach 85.123.34.56, but not 86.123.34.56. So I plugged the modem to a computer, set the transparent modem and the computer got the public IP address. And you know, I have a perfect connection, and everything works. Looking at my ip information, download the provider 255.0.0.0 subnet. Im not a Networking Wizard, but it seems to me that the problem lies here. But why is my stand-alone pc able to connect quite normal, but when I connect my linksys RV042 and internal diagnostic test (ping) of the router or a computer behind the router, obtaining an ip address, I don't get anything.

When I ping manually, I also get the message "network is not available. Ping to an IP on the same subnet (for example, 85.111.111.111) goes perfect.

I'm obviously missing something here. My colleuge said it could be and router/gateway (currently bridge) or a NAT problem-associated device.

Please point me in the right direction.

    Intellectual property of addidional information:

    External ip address: 85.223.12.34

    External subnet mask: 255.0.0.0

    External gateway: 217.149.196.82

    External DNS: 217.149.196.6

    Internal IP address: 172.16.0.254

    Internal subnet: 255.255.0.0

    New firmware etc.

    Thank you guys!

What static routes you add exactly on your RV? It's funny, it works now.

WIndows seems to accept a gateway address that is not on a connected interface.

The first line is the rule of default gateway:
    0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 217.149.196.82 85.223.66.38

The second line just tells you that 85.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 is connected to the ethernet adapter that has the IP 85.223.66.38.
    85.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 85.223.66.38 85.223.66.38

Technically, the first route should now work. There is still no route for 217.149.196.82 in the routing tables. The only route that matches the destination IP 217.149.196.82 is the first route.

But I guess that, in your case, that default gateway with 217.149.196.82 is actually connected to the network on the side of the VP, i.e. your ISP WAN runs two IP subnets on the same network. Since this first route runs on Windows, I guess that WIndows simply tries to find the MAC address of the 217.149.196.82 on the WAN using ARP interface (i.e., it assumes that the device with 217.149.196.82 is directly connected to the WAN Ethernet) and if something is used as default gateway. Is not really consistent with the ideal IP routing, but still works...

  • Add a static route to a RV042

I have configured the RV042 dual WAN port for backup smart link connected to two different ISPS.  The subnet behind this is 192.168.2.xxx.  I have a second router linksys Garland with the 192.168.2.250 WAN port and subnet behind it is 192.168.20.xxx.  My problem is that I have a not able to route traffic fron 192.168.2.xxx to 192.168.20.xxx.  How can I add a static route so that clients on 192.168.2.xxx can access resources on 192.168.20.xxx?

    1. the second Linksys router must be changed of gateway (active NAT) in router mode (NAT disabled) mode. With NAT the LAN behind the second Linksys will be not accessible from the outside unless you configure port forwarding.

    2. on the RV042 set up a static route for the subnet 192.168.20.0/255.255.255.0 to the gateway IP address 1921.68.2.250 on the LAN interface.

    3. Ideally, you must configure the same static route on all clients connected to the RV042. If you don't want to do this, you must configure the firewall on all clients on the RV042 accept ICMP redirect messages. This is important because otherwise all traffic from 192.168.2. * to * 192.168.20 would be sent to the RV042 and from there to the second Linksys that is unnecessary and could create a bottleneck.

    Hello

    Please use our forum

Hi Skip my name is Johnnatan and I'm part of the community of support to small businesses. I ve seen your post and I see you are using Windows 7 and that you disable your firewall to test your connection. A configuration of the computer and the router must be in order to solve your problem.

    Computer

As you use Windows 7, you must enable the Windows Firewall and create 2 rules, also make sure that Ipsec communication is allowed, you can follow these steps:

    http://www6.nohold.NET/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?login=1&PID=2&app=search&VW=1&articleid=2922

    Router:

Go firewall > basic settings and

    Disable: Block WAN request

    Enable: Remote Management

Go to VPN > VPN Passthrough and make sure everything is activate.

I hope that you will find this answer useful, if it was satisfactory to you, please indicate the question as answer. Please note post you consider useful.

  • Complete tunnel Config RV042

I followed the laboratory (https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-12534#comment-13921) to set up a tunnel from gateway to gateway using RV042 version v4.1.1.01 - sp at both ends. It seemes to work, however communication seems to be limited to one way. I can ping and use remote desktop to connect to the servers to the central location, but trying to make a ping or RDP servers to the branch Traghetti that I get nothing.

I'm guessing this has to do with the configuration of multiple subnet. Following your instuctions I end up with the same IP configured on both routers and I end up with a loop of routing to the central office. Do you know a way to solve this problem?

Could you try to remove the static route on the central site?

If it still does not work, contact the support center for assistance.

  • Customer quick RV042 VPN cannot ping lan network

    Hi guys,.

I just created a client2gateway on RV042 IPSec tunnel and use the remote PC quick VPN client tries to connect to this router.

Fast VPN showed that the tunnel has been established. But I couldn't ping the LAN behind the router RV042.

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Yes, you are right. To use the fast with RV042 VPN, it is necessary to configure the user name and a password for access to the VPN Client page. As this router does not support VLANs, you can only connect the VPN client to the LAN subnet (you cannot connect the client to any beach IP configured with multiple subnets)

  • RV042G Portmapping to different subnets

    Hello!

    We have the following situation:

    172.16.0.0 / 255.255.248.0 network

the RV042G has an IP address of 172.16.7.254 with subnet 255.255.255.0

    We have added an additional subnet/IP: 172.16.0.254 / 255.255.248.0

We want only 1 port WAN portmapping several subnets in our local network.

    Example:

    Address WAN: 84.44.33.11

SERVICE: RDP_TO_SERVER_01-online external port: 3389; internal port: 3389; internal IP address: 172.16.0.44

SERVICE: RDP_TO_SERVER_02-online external port: 3399; internal port: 3390; internal IP address: 172.16.3.150

SERVICE: HTTP_TO_SERVER_03-online external port: 8555; internal port: 80; internal IP address: 172.16.7.51

The portforwarding and portmapping does not an external address.

In the past, we used the RV042G with a single subnet (192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0). But now, we have expanded our network to a network 172.16.x.x and portforwarding/mapping/UPNP does not work with the current settings.

Please, help us to accomplish the above.

    Kind regards

    Martin

    Hi Martin,

Yes RV0xx traversed NAT on its default network, I can confirm this.

For One to One NAT cannot help, firstly because we have a single WAN and does not allow it to NAT one-to-one, secondly even if we have two public IP addresses we can NAT the second only to the value default network not the additional subnet.

Martin is my opinion and my suggestion just because I can not have all the information about your network, therefore:

In conclusion: I see two solution, or you migrate the server to the default network and let the extra for internet connection or other subnet think if you care about the DHCP, you can have DHCP external regarding the example Microsoft server or our Sx300 switch or 500 series that had fully implemented DHCP features.

Second Solution is to have another such ISA500 router where Vlan not support as Port of RV042 service Vlan and guests you can get your condition.

Hope that I was clear on my explanation, please do not hesitate to contact also FRO a pre-sales questions and you can expose your need and we can help you

    Thank you

    Best regards

  • Tunnel of RV042 V3 that routes all traffic to the VPN

    Hi all

I use Cisco Linksys RV-042 with V2 hardware to set up a VPN tunnel that route all traffic to the remote gateway (a Cisco ASA 5510). This configuration works very well, and I can access the local router and other resources to the central site.

I'm doing the same thing with Cisco RV042 with version V3 of the material, but I can't access the local router until the VPN breaks down. I can ' ping, SNMP the local router, or access but I can access the central site. Very strange.

Do you know what can I do to access the router local (for example, hardware V2) with connected VPN?

    Thank you

    Rafael

Just a hunch, but in the remote network you agree with what the network and subnet?

    I've seen this symptom before.

    LAN on the RV series.

    10.10.2.0 255.255.255.0

    Trust remote networks

    10.10.1.0 255.255.248.0

It is traffic destined to the router on the 10.10.2.1 ip address is through the tunnel forward. So, for this purpose, you can only access the router LAN interface when the tunnel is out of service. I'm not sure why ping works but it does. I'm looking into this symptom on a different device, but the device has a similar graphical interface.

I would like to know if you have a similar setup.

  • Linkysys RV042 QuickVPN to router problems

    Hello

Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated because I was stuck on this for a few days now, it's my first time posting to a forum... I have setup VPN connections before, but only through packages such as openswan and openvpn not through this device.

My VPN router is connected directly to a DSL modem, directly behind the RV042 I placed my test on port machine 1 time Wan1 & port 1 show as Gree (active).

    Modem...
    DHCP enabled

    local IP address: 10.1.1.1

    The VPN has...

    Wan1: 10.1.1.2

    LAN1: 10.222.43.1

    Test machine...

    IP address: 10.222.43.100

I got two Linksys RV042 Setup devices such as end point / VPN connections between one local area network to another.

However before doing that I tested the installation of a test machine (for laptop Windows 7 Professional & also tried XP Professional with exactly the same results) for the VPN router device. I have configured the router with the basic configuration, as described in the guide step by step / pdf and user test configuration & a tunnel I left every thing as default and only changed what is necessary.

I generated a certificate for the server and distributed a client certificate on my customer's computer and installed in the "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Linksys\Linksys VPN Client\" directory (if I understand correctly I can simply upload to this place and its installed for the customer).

Above is a race down the steps listed in the installation guide provided on the CD, whenever I try to connect to the server, I get the following error message.

    Failed to establish a connection.

This could be caused by one of the following:

    1. Incorrect password.

    2. No valid IP for the network card.

    3. Incorrect server address.

    4. You may need to disable your Windows firewall.

    5. Local IP address conflicts with the subnet of remote VPN server.

    1. I know that my password is correct

    2. I don't know what that means 'no IP address valid for the network adapter', although I am able to access the internet via the modem on my test laptop and have access to the web interface of the RV042 so I assumed that my IP is valid?

    3. I know that the address of the server is correct, I tried the two internal address of the RV042 and address the RV042 wan1

    4. I get exactly the same error message if the firewall is enabled or disabled on the XP or 7 machines.

    5. it's one I leave me puzzled, there is no connected computer so I don't know how there could be a conflict. However, just to make sure that I changed the IP address of the laptop outside the range allocated to the tunnel, and I still get the same error message.

I checked the "system log" server log file and that's what I get, it appears that the server actually accepts the connection between what I can make of this series of posts.

As your objective here is to do a LAN to LAN VPN, I don't mind playing with the VPN client software to test the router.  The VPN configuration can be pretty shakey on the rv series, and I recommend that you play with the options, just keep base.

Set up each local network be on a separate subnet.  That is to say, we're on 192.168.1.x, 192.168.2.x on.  On the VPN tab, set up accounts for both gateway to gateway vpn routers.  Test the connection into the router admin screens.  Check the connection with pings to each side of the lan systems.  Then try to use applications/files that you plan to use and see if it works.  If so, then success!  If this is not the case, check the different options to the title of each gateway account.  These options can make or break the vpn connection.  Good luck.

  • RV042G and several subnets

Hi!, I am trying to configure a RV042G to process at least 3 subnets, I see that it does not support 802. 1 q trunks, but on the interface of configuration page it gives the possibility to define a vlan for the port (static options: vlan1 vlan4 :/) but it is not possible to address IP Configuration for each vlan.)

How is it?, is a router that cannot route between subnets?, what are the VLAN used for then?

    Kind regards.

    Ciro,

Please see the following thread. This might give you a better idea of the functioning of the RV042 (G) about the VLAN and multiple subnets.
