Suggest the cDAQ chassis applicable

Hello

In my application I will use a NI 9476, 9264 One, One two 9485, two 9265 9435 IO modules offer me please the appropriate chassis that I can use these modules.

Thank you

Prashant

Hi, UPRR. You'll use 7 modules of data acquisition for your application, correct?

In this case I recommend you to get either:

1 NOR cDAQ-9188 - http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/208990 - Ethernet connectivity

2 NEITHER cDAQ-9178 -http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/207534- USB connectivity, BNC connections for external clocks and 32-bit counters built into the chassis.

  • is it possible to check progrommatically if cdaq chassis is used

    Hi all

IM writing a program who book a cdaq chassis, but I want to know if data acquisition is in use before taking control of it.  Is this possible in the code?

    Thank you

The purpose of book is to block all communications with the device and let the reserving computer to have full access. I suggest you just cancel when it is not in use, allowing the other connections to support.

Separated from the cDAQ chassis, if you have multiple computers on the same network as I assume you are, you may have published network variables that tell other computers on the network if the chassis is in use. It's pretty much a a work-around to be able to know if the chassis is to apply vs not used regardless of the booking.

  • Difference between the cDAQ-9174 and cDAQ-9178

I have several cRIO-9081.  Each cRIO-9081 running NOR-DAQmx 15.5.  On four of the cRIO-9018 we show you cDAQ - 9178 with 8 modules.  Everything just worked.  On the fifth cRIO-9018, we tried to connect a cDAQ-9174.  The aircraft appeared in the Windows Device Manager and MAX, but MAX has indicated that the aircraft was missing (error-88705) and that Windows can't find a driver for the instrument.

We then plugged a cDAQ-9178 in the fifth cRIO and everything just worked.

What is the difference between a cDAQ-9174 and cDAQ-9178 other than the number of the module support?

    Paul

    Hi Paul,.

It seems it could be a driver problem! What DAQmx version you have installed on two computers? Reinstall the latest version may be worth it because it looks like there may be corruption. You can find the latest version here: http://www.ni.com/download/ni-daqmx-15.5/5901/en/

You can manually associate the device driver, here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/5B80CAAA64413B4C86256C5E0000C1A7

There are modules connected to the cDAQ chassis?

Also, sometimes, this can happen if you do not restart your computer after the installation of the NOR-DAQmx driver. Restart your computer after the driver installation will allow you to reserve the device successfully. Here are a few others not to try:

    • Check the charger to device OR to see if it is running

    • Reset the service OR charger

    • Reset the MAX Configuration database

    • The system power cycle

  • How many quadrature encoders may be read together with the cDAQ-9188 chassis?

We will record position periodically 8 engines (at the same time as we are to the corresponding samples entered analog).  It seems that the 4 built-in counters limited chassis to 4 encoders.  Is this correct?  I am familiar with modules of counter PLC which manage high-speed counting, and then the CPU posts periodically to update the total values.  This is how the NI 9401 card would work?

    Hi jtrout,

You are right the 4 built-in counters than the cDAQ-9188 chassis 4 encoders.  The following article deals with the use of the NI 9401 card for encoder measures: http://www.ni.com/tutorial/7109/en/.

  • new cDAQ-9178 chassis was smaller than the cDAQ-9172 old buffer?

    Digital waveform features:

Waveform acquisition (DI) FIFO for cDAQ-9172: 2047 samples

Waveform acquisition (DI) FIFO for cDAQ-9178: 127 samples per slot

This means that the new HW (9178) has a much smaller than the old buffer (9172)!

I want to run a correlation over generation/acquisition at 2 MHz with 2000 samples. Does this mean that the new chassis will not be able to acquire the whole of the data (I use a NI 9401 module inside the chassis)?

FIFO sizes are misleading and not a true indicator of the chassis supporting the streaming is not the single buffer.  We did some tests comparing the latest and cDAQ-9172 chassis.  You will not notice the difference, especially with your application to a finished task of 2 000 samples at 2 MHz.  With 2 000 samples, you can run your DI task on your chassis cDAQ-9178 at 10 MHz if you wanted without problem (don't try with continuous or even finished tasks).

The only time where the FIFO size really comes into play is when you run a primary task at high rates, say > 5 MHz, even if it is system dependent.  At these speeds a FIFO that is deeper 2 000 samples you buy only tens or hundreds of additional microseconds when Windows jitter is measured in milliseconds.

I would be very surprised if there is a practical application that worked on a cDAQ-9172 chassis which did not work on newer USB cDAQ chassis.

  • unrecognized cDAQ chassis

I've been running a cDAQ-9172 for a USB port with an AO 9263 and a DIO 9401 module. Has worked perfectly so far. I've done some development on a new VI and excerpt of operation without connected cDAQ. Now the cDAQ appears in MAX with little red x in all slots. Chassis reset indicates a reset and the indicator LED flashing. Auto Test indicates a successful self-test. The device will appear in the Windows hardware Manager. If I click on one of the modules in MAX, all the menu bar selections are grayed out. It seems that I can have corrupted a configuration somewhere, somewhere. Ideas or an overview of what has happened with my updated chassis in place?

    Thanks for all the ideas!

    Paul

So, when you reconnect your cDAQ chassis it does not show green in MAX?

If so it could be a corruption of the database, then I suggest following the steps in this KB: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/86256F0E001DA9FF86256FFD005B827C?OpenDocument

  • crash of the cDaq 9132

I have 4 new cDAQ-9132 systems that go into the production thgis week.  During the last two weeks that these systems are running, they break.  Here's what's happening.

    1. the system runs our application, or in some cases, just sitting there running Windows 7

2 the screen goes black, and there is no further response from the system.  The power light on the controller is running.

Restart the monitor doesn't do anything, unplug and reinsert the VGA does nothing.  No response from the keyboard at all.

3 press the RESET button or power cycle using the power button will restart the computer.  Windows error logs have no information at all at the time of the accident, clean everything up to the new entries to the log at startup.

A strange thing about setting, is that there are very long VGA and USB cables.  16 feet.  Two USB cables go 16 feet each two separate powered USB hubs.  A hub has a touchscreen and keyboard, the other hub has a barcode scanner and a printer.

Four of these systems have all have the same symptoms.  All four grids have a 9229 and a 9422 of each.

I set the bios on a USB overcurrent in the operating system report and stay OFF If there is a power failure.  We used a stroke of luck using Min/Max to check the variability on power supply 24VDC used for controller, nothing was found.  The controller has its own dedicated to food.  Due to a quirk of the command, two system have a 24V supply type, the other two systems have a different provider supply.  All the supplies are more than adequate for the controller.

You can provide any assistance is greatly appreciated!

    Hello Palickar,

Is it possible to try to launch the cDAQs without long USB cables to exclude them as causes of accidents? If the chassis still crash without long cables USB, then maybe it might have something to do with the way in which power is supplied to the chassis.

  • Physical connections using 4 counters with NI 9411 cDAQ chassis 9178

    Hello

Currently I have a NI 9411 module in a 9178 cDAQ chassis.  I use 2 meter to read the frequency measures.

The NI 9411 pinout diagram (see pdf file attached to this post), here are the links that I did:

CTR 0 SRC, pin 1 ground COM

DOOR of the CTR 0, pin 2 to the first signal of frequency

    CTR 1 CBC, PIN 6 COM/ground

CTR 1 DOOR, pin 01:53 frequency signal

The problem now is that I had like to use meters of 3rd and 4th in my 9178 cDAQ chassis, but I am confused how to wire

frequency signals in 3rd and 4th, because CTR2 GATE is pin 1 and GATE CTR3 is pin 6.  Can I change the assignment of pins

to use the other pins in the NI 9411 module for frequency counter measures?  I didn't understand how to do this in MAX

    Configuration.

    Thank you

    Anna

    Hi EETDer,

Using 'C-Series Signal connections for counters that you found is a good resource.  One thing I want to point out, that's a measure of the frequency on a single meter, simply connect the source of the signal up to the door of the RTC.  Internally, the module will forward a database internal time appropriate to the source of counters, so DO NOT want to connect the Source CTR to the mass.  On your device, you will be just wire each signal to the source of the meter, so only utilizting pines 1,6,3,8 for your 4 frequency measurements.

  • The transition of the cDAQ to cDAQ ENET USB

    Hello community,

For some reason, I'd probably change some of the cDAQ USB chassis that I use for the Ethernet frame cDAQ base. I already have some applications developed on the platform of the USB and I was wondering how painful (or even at all) migration from USB to Ethernet. I guess also assign an IP address to the chassis and set it up in MAX, it should be relatively easy.

It would be nice to know about problems I can cope.

    Thank you.

As far as I saw, just that everything is set up in MAX, and then it is homogeneous in all of your applications.  You may need to remove all instances of your USB cDAQ located in MAX in order to reuse the virtual name.

  • Find the cDAQ and command module at startup

    Hello

I have a cDAQmx (8 slots) with USB port and a module of series C. 4 modules are digital 4-channel input (up to 220 v), 1 analog input, analog output 1, 2 digital output, etc...

I want to make my program (for testing electronic cards) is:

    (1) at startup, check if the cDAQ is present in the system (i.e. USB is plugged, drivers were already installed correctly)

    (2) also check the modules which are plugged into the cDAQmx and check if they are in the correct order.

For example, to test the product X I need two digital inputs to slot 1 and 2 and an analog input to slot 3.

I ask this because people in production could make the mistakes I want to avoid:

    (1) avoid forgetting to plug in the USB and begin the test

    (2) avoid to connect the wrong terminals! The plug is the same for each module, so it is possible teoretically put the connector in a 10V analog input to 220V, causing a serious injury (I know they are protected, but I want to avoid this risk).

For the chassis, you should be able to query "Device Module names" to get the name of each module currently in the chassis:

  • By cDAQ chassis module names?

    Hi all

is there a way to get the module name based cDAQ chassis?

I'm just checking if two (or more) identical chassis with different modules are connected to my PC.

    Example:

Module 1: cDAQ-9174 with Modules 'A', 'B', 'C', emptySlot, in the right order

    Module 2: cDAQ-9174 with Modules 'd', 'E', 'emptySlot', 'emptySlot '.

    Problem:
The property 'ActiveDev' node, then recovering the ProductType output array of [cDAQ-9174, cDAQ-9174, A, B, C, D, E,.. .and system peripherals]

I do not see the modules are plugged into the chassis.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

  • Problem of discovery of the cDAQ-9191 in MAX

I have a new cDAQ-9191 with 9208 module that I have connected to my PC with an Ethernet cable.  I use DAQmx 15.1.1 in Windows 7 Pro SP1 64 bit and MAX 15.0.0f0.  The cDAQ-9191 appears under devices and Interfaces > network devices.  There is no IP address and its status is "disconnected".  There is no found network card.  There is no Firmware button, and add device only returns an error message.  See the two photos attached for details of 9191 properties.  I have tried to reset MAX configuration, restart the 9191, exchanging several cables, restart the PC, turn off all the other networks of PC, turning the firewall, but without success.  I searched the forum, but no one else has reported a solution to a similar problem.  The port LAN PC has a static address, and I've used the port to connect to other devices.  As this is obviously not a normal state for this 9191 I'm totally stuck with no idea how to proceed.  Is it a hardware failure?

In addition, on my main PC (MAX 15.0.0f0, DAQmx 15.1.1, 15.0 IMAQdx, win 10 Pro 64-bit), MAX cannot find network devices.  I tried with an Axis Network camera and the 9191, which both appear on the other PC.  I can't find a solution to either but it's a real pain that MAX is not working properly when necessary.

    Hi Dr_M,

If your LAN port has a static IP address, it must run a DHCP server, which can affect the 9191 an address on the same subnet.  If no DHCP server is found, the 9191 a local IP address of the default link.  Very likely, you met the latter, and the static IP address that you have assigned to your LAN port does not link local beach.  This means that your computer and your cDAQ are on different subnets, so MAX can communicate with the 9191.

You can change the IP address of your LAN port to one in the local area connection (169.254.x.x, subnet mask 255.255.0.0), or you can configure your LAN port to automatically obtain an IP address.

Once you access the 9191 in MAX, you can adjust the parameters IP back at your convenience, as long as the chassis and the computer you end up on the same subnet.

  • Problems with NI-VISA 5.0.3 detect a 9474 cDAQ chassis and modules via USB

    Hello friends.

I'm running Windows 7 x 64, I installed MAX 4.7.4, NI-VISA 5.0.3 and the other software that comes with them.

    I have a 9174 cDAQ chassis and 3 modules.

My problem: when I connect the hardware to my PC via the USB port, it presents itself to the MAX, but NI-VISA does not detect sub "USB" (or elsewhere).

Purpose: What I'm trying to do is communicate with the NI 9223 module, using VISA through MATLAB commands.  The MATLAB data acquisition Toolbox supports not the NI 9223, so I would try to acquire help from VISA.  However, I don't find the VISA of the device address.

I would like to know your opinion on why modules are not displayed in NI-VISA and if my ultimate quest is valid without doing something nasty like writing C++.  I have not found a good source for VISA OR orders either, but I'm sure it exists.

    Thank you!

    Wes

    Hey eccentricorbit,

Unfortunately, you can't talk about a module using VISA or cDAQ chassis. Your options are DAQmx and low level of coding (something nasty like C++). If you do not get DAQmx, you can find excellent examples by accessing:

"" "Start menu" National Instruments "NOR-DAQ ' text Code support ' ANSI C examples

    I hope this helps!

  • Cdaq chassis query for configuration

I am trying to find a way for Labview correctly detect the number of modules in a CDAQ chassis. The code below will create a MAX configuration file and analyzed to find what I need properly. I'm picking up even if you add a module. But if you remove a module or even disconnect the chassis it still gives the maximum number of modules that have been installed, not the current number.

Is there a way to get the MAXIMUM for updating its configuration when appropriate or a way of questioning the chassis directly?

    Thank you

Assuming that you use DAQmx, I think this is what you need:

Just go in the table, one at a time and get the info you need from the nodes property.
