Super Micro servers ESXi 5

We are currently stuck running with a 3Ware 9750 Raid card normally I would like to run servers HP esx4.1, but it's a long story.

I'm looking for some advice on an array controller that support 4 internal ports for sata 3 gb/6 GB disks.

I am looking for vsphere support so we can monitor the status of the drives and the table directly from there.

LSI suggestion at this stage, therefore a small Linux on each host that is running the software 3dm using the direct path to access the controller.

I'm not sure it's the best thing, but a machine using 256 MB of ram would not be the end of the world.

Others use? I can't be the only one in this situation.

Battery tests are run automatically by the BIOS OF THE controller.  VCenter can be configured to warn on the RAID array status or battery status issues.

  • Backup of multiple virtual machines on a number of servers ESXi

    Hi all

We have a small field of version 5. XXXX of vmware ESXi servers and using the ghettoVCB script, I have problems with some of the cronjobs does not.

It is my belief, that it is perhaps that the script is trying to run on a new host when the other VM did not finish on a different host.

I noticed when I tried a manual forced backups when another host was running a backup...

    # /vmfs/volumes/DanielSAN2/Backups/ghettoVCB-master/ghettoVCB.sh g /vmfs/volumes/DanielSAN2/Backups/ghettoVCB-master/ghettoVCB.conf f/vmfs/volumes/DanielSAN2/Backups/ghettoVCB-master/$(hostname-s)-l /vmfs/volumes/DanielSAN2/Backups/logs/ghettoVCB-backup.$(hostname-s).$(date +%Y-%m-%d).log-d dryrun .daily .backup

-Ash: /vmfs/volumes/DanielSAN2/Backups/ghettoVCB-master/ghettoVCB.sh: device or resource busy

Is it possible to run multiple instances of multiple hosts? simply create a number of script files would get around this question, or is the w switch used for this purpose? I couldn't find the example in the am, but it seems I can left only one process at a time, and I think that this is part of the problem. Any help would be appreciated...

    Thank you very much

    Nathan

Thank you, that worked a treat!

several scripts work very well if you have a number of backups to be performed during the night.

    Hello

Yes it is possible, but it requires 3rd party products.

There are only a few of them that you could use.

This is a product review to help you: http://www.gabesvirtualworld.com/?p=737

  • Two servers ESXi, 1 unit logic on a San number

    Hello

I'm under ESXi, but I think it's a pretty agnostic hardware issue. It is my first experience with VMWare. I know that this point is covered in the administration guide, but I really don't want to make a mistake of colossal tentacle because I misunderstood the docs.

So if I have two ESXi servers and this is the same logic of the SAN unit number even for them, there is no problem with that? What are the limitation on that? (Currently using the free license, but my license Infrastructure is on the way)

The thinking being I could create a LUN and put all my Bootdrives on this LUN. I guess the single ESXi server can attach to a specific VMGuest at the same time, but different VMGuests can run on different HOST machines.

What tools are available for the free version of ESXi move a VMGuest to an ESXi server to another server ESXi using the above shared storage scenario?

    Mike

I think that this is a limitation of VMkernel, although it could be a limitation of VMFS - hard to say.  There is a hard limit, though - get you a weird behavior if you exceed the limit of 2 TB.

  • Can I use licensed ESXi 4.1 on multiple servers ESXi 4.1?

I registered and obtain a license of VMware ESXi.  This license key is valid only for VMware ESXi 4.1 and later versions.

I intend to set up several reasearch, development and commercial purpose ESXi hosts.  Can I use this license again and again.

I guess that's YES, because VMware vSphere Hypervisor is a free product.

    But just needed confirmation.

    Thank you very much.

If you open a session to download ESXi Hypervisor scrolling to the bottom of the page. To the terms and Conditions, there is a link to change the account. Confusion between good formulation.

  • New Dell servers ESXI 3.5 u3 or u4, ESXI 3.5

Will buy the Dell PE T610 but he says in the list of compatibility ESXI installable u4, not the others, then does that mean that the U3 install then upgrade to U4 will not work?

Publication for the 4 update notes specifically mentions the added support for processors Nehalem (Xeon 5500 series), so my bet is that no other ESX version will run on them. Even if you don't get a race if you're unlikely to get help because he is not certified.

  • Cannot install PowerDirector 10 Super-Micro by Cyberlink, when I put the disc in the player getting error (E:\is not a Win 32 Application valid).

I installed Windows 7 64 bit on a new computer.  Everything that the seams to work properly. I then tried to install a new program from Cyberlink called PowerDirector Ultra 10.  I put the disc in the drive and get an error (E:\is not a Win 32 Application valid).  If I put another CD or DVD in the drive, it works very well. Can someone help me please

    Original title: using Windows 7

I would contact the people you bought it from.  Maybe you have a faulty drive.  You can also click on start-> computer and look at the contents of this disc.  If there is a Setup.exe file on that, try double-clicking it and see what happens.  If this does not help, open the AUTORUN. INI file with Notepad and see what file it points to.  Then try double-clicking what it points to.

    Good luck.

  • Changing the IP address of 5 ESXi servers

We are about to embark on a change of IP address on our network. Our 5 servers ESXi (5.1) will all need will be replaced by the new intellectual property structure.

Can any who offer advice concerning a procedure for this, or point me in the right direction re. documentation.

    Thanks in advance.

It is enough, turn off your HA and change your IP addresses on a management and change the DNS records.

If you have added your ESXi servers by DNS name to vCenter, you don't need to remove and add the vCenter server.

It's easy, just check your all the services.

  • ESXi 5.0 servers don't recognize that same NFS share to the same data store

I have a setup of vSphere 5.0 running VMware Workstation 8.  I have two ESXi servers that are accumulating the same NFS share (with the same IP address and the same directory path), but for some reason, they don't recognize it as the same data store.  I deleted and added to the data store again and checked that I am getting the same way on both nodes.  However, vSphere don't let me use the same name when I ride sharing NFS as a data store on the second node. vSphere changes the name of "NFSdatastore" to "NFSdatastore (1)" and will not let me change, say that the name already exists.

The NFS file server is a VM of 2.99 OpenFiler, which IP 192.168.0.100 (and is in DNS as "openfiler1").  The path is "/ mnt/vsphere/vcs/datastore.

The NFS mount works great as a data store on the two servers ESXi, except for the fact that vSphere sees two data stores.  I have a Red Hat VM running on each of them, and when I browse the data of each ESXi Server store, I can definitely see two configs VM, as well as a few ISO images that I put on the NFS share.  However, I can't vMotion as he complains about not being able to access the configuration file and the file virtual disk (vmdk) of the other node.

On the OpenFiler, the directory/mnt/vsphere/vcs/datastore is the property of "ofguest" in the "ofguest" group, and the permissions are "drwxrwsrwx +".  All files under the directory are also held by "ofguest" in the group "ofguest".  Vmx files have permissions "rwxr-xr-x + ', and the vmdk files have permissions ' rw +-

I did a lot of Google search, read best practices, etc.  Any help is appreciated.

UPDATE: he Figured out - leakage / on one of the paths of NFS mounting.  DOH!

  • Problems with vicfg-iscsi on ESXi 4.1 servers

    Hi all!

I am an administrator for some servers ESXi 60 + who have partially been upgraded to ESXi 4.1 (260247). Our vCenters have also been upgraded to 4.1.

After this update, I tried to access these servers through the

$> vicfg-iscsi - host ESX Server version is 4.1.0. This operation is supported on ESX, ESXi 4.0 4.0, or through VC 4.0

    > end disconnect

I found no information on this subject in the knowledge base, or discussions. What I am doing wrong. This command worked perfectly with 4.0 and its updates.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    Thomas

Since you have a mixture of guests 4.1 and 4.0, you will need to use the last 4.1 vCLI to manage your 4.1 hosts. The CLIs are mostly compatible with the previous version, including point releases or back 1 exit. The error is liekly your vCLI releases 4.0 most try to manage and configure a host 4.1

You can download the latest here http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vcli/ or use vMA 4.1 vCLI which includes the last vCLI

  • Failed to get vCenter to keep in touch with the two servers virtual virtual ESXi 4.0.

I have a laboratory setup where I have two servers virtual windows (Domian controller and vCenter) and two virtual servers ESXi 4.0, on a Dell sitting bare metal Server ESXi 4.0.  So basically four virtual servers on a server phyiscal.  I can't get the vCenter server to stay connected to the ESXi 4.0 servers.  We'll always stay connected, and the other will be disconnected.  When I try to reconnect to the disconnected from vCenter Server I get a connection failure.  If I go directly to the ESXi box (the one that I can't connect to vCenter well) I can connect correctly by using the identification information same accurate I use however vCenter.  I'm running while mode track except metal nu ESXi installation that has the free license installed on it.  This is a limitation of the performance of the software in trial mode.  I hope not that would be nice to do for study purposes and to show the customers in a sort of demo of the installation.  Can anyone help plese here?  It is a laboratory configuration I do to perform vMotion, so I practice for my VCP.  Thanks in advance.

  • Question of Duel ESXi servers

    All,

I have an ESXi server that I am very satisfied.  I had to use a USB key and instructions from the internet to perform the boot and use (I've added the realtek on the USB network adapter).

I have since bought a second computer to run ESXi also on.  Trying to boot the cd of ESXi, I came to the same conclusion that I had to use the USB.

I made a copy of the image of the USB of the origin of a new USB ESXi server. -J' I then shut down the original server ESXi and started the new server.  Then, I've reconfigured the server network address and the name of management to be a new address/name.

I bring them both and they boot and seem to run fine - however...

When I connect to the CR I start getting errors. the client removes the connections and indicates that it is a mistake to talk to the server.  It seems that the 2 servers ESXi are contradictory.  If I stopped either server - errors disappear.

Is there something I need to do to reset and be able to use my new second server?  (I already tried the reset on the server console)

    Thank you all

  • Corruption graphic when you try to install ESXi 5.5

    Hello.

I have a new server and the installation of VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 1 the installer knows graphical corruption (the screen shows strange colors random movement pixels). Other operating systems can be installed, such as Ubuntu, and the BIOS is accessible. It is only when the disc with the VMware Installer starts the graphics go crazy. I contacted the technical support of the company, we bought the server from and they said there was no known compatibility problems and communicate with VMware. The motherboard is a X10SLM +-LN4F by Super Micro.

It turns out the motherboard was faulty.

  • How to make an ESXi backup on USB?

I have a few servers ESXi 4.1 on USB keys. Now I wonder how can I save the config ESXi and USB itself, in which case the USB will be dead or damaged? One of the USB key on a single server is already showing the signs to go to rest forever, and I would like to have a backup of it. Is there a tool I can use to create a backup on another USB key?

    xcom1000 wrote:

Thanks, I was looking for some kind of script. And the backup process itself is ok, but the restore configuration procedure needs to be alive and running of the ESXi host. So in case of emergency (USB key works do not), what would be the correct procedure to restore the server without hollow is a complete reinstallation of ESXi and reload the config with vicfg-cfgbackup?

Well, everything depends on how many ESXi servers you have.

If you have small env is not worth to spend a lot of time for preparation of extra super recovery too. I don't know anyone who supports up that ESX or ESXi breaks.

    For small env:

    1. PowerCLI script -you can create the script CLI power for each of your guests with specific parameters

    http://communities.VMware.com/community/VMTN/Server/vSphere/automationtools/PowerCLI

    Catering requirements:

ESXi server must be running in - running

    restore procedure

manual installation of ESXi (15 minutes), after installation, run a script (2 minutes) against the new server and DONE

    2. with the help of vMA

Create a bash script that would back up ESXi firmware, set it on a weekly basis in crone (on the server of the vMA)

    Restore requirements

    ESXi server must be running

ESXi must be on that same level as if it were before the construction accident

    restore procedure

manual installation of ESXi (15 minutes), after installation restore a Firmware using the new server and DONE
