Sweet video for Dimension 4700 card?

Sweet video for Dimension 4700 card?
I was given an old Dell 4700 of Dimension that has the integrated VGA video connector and never had a video card. The computer came with a modem only in the PCI 1 slot and the PCI Express x 16 slot is empty.
I read old posts here on this subject, but most is outdated and some recommend cards that use too much power for the 305 watt power supply.
It's so confusing when I look at say a HD5450 there are so many brands and versions his crazy confusion.
Thanks for any help
Ron.

AMD made graphic processor chips and sells them to manufacturers of cards, who exploit them in turn to produce finished their own individual designs graphics cards.

The 5450 is cheaper than the 6450 and consumes less power, but it is less powerful and has fewer features. My favorite range low graphics card is the 6450 Sapphire, and I bought some of them for use in old Dells.

I have a Dimension 4700 desktop computer that has been sitting in storage for a while. I wanted to start and see is there something to this subject that I had to save or erase the hard drive. As far as I know, it was working fine when it was put away. Now it won't start at all. Here is what I know-

    Dimension 4700

Service etiquette: ADMIN NOTE: Service tag deleted by privacy policy >

    running Windows XP Home Edition

Power light turns on and remains lit (green). DVD players do a rotation test (but will not read a boot disk). The hard drive light comes on and stays on.

Does NOT display a Dell spash screen. The screen is blank (black) with the exception of a simple white flashing cursor (line underscore). It crashes in this condition.

Does not meet the keyboard commands (ctl + alt + del, esc, f8, f11... etc.). Does not respond to reset (press power button in disable).

Diagnostic lights are lit on the rear panel. A, B, C are all stable and green. D is amber and regular.

All inner and peripheral cables seem to be properly fixed.

When the power to the hard drive cable is removed, it does NOT POST beeps (the condition is the same).

I can't get to the Setup screen. I can't boot from a cd. I don't get any sound signals (beeps).

It is out of warranty, and troubleshooting knowledge base sent in a recursive loop items that never exceeded the step #2. Someone at - it suggestions?

Because it has been stored for a while, first stage, with the PC off, is to reinstall (unplug then plug back in) all the memory, PCI cards such as video, sound, etc. and all cable connectors.  Make sure that when you plug the points back in that you get fully and correctly reinstalled.     Back off and see if that makes a difference.

  • Dell Dimension 4700 upgrade tips Help!

Hello Dell Community, I currently have a Dell Dimension 4700 and hoped to upgrade my computer to a computer game, with a budget of around $100-200.

I wonder as to the game going, that upgrades would produce the biggest change and progress in the game? I'm hoping to improve up to 2 GB of Ram and add a video card, but don't know if it is the best choice to go.

I have studied this subject and found several posts in the forums, but they were all overwhelmed and I hope to get some knowledge as well as recent graphics cards or Ram that can improve my FPS in game and all around my budget. Thank you.

Better to put the money upgrade, to buying new desktop PC.

  • Upgrading RAM Dell Dimension 4700

    Hi all

OK I will try once again to this type. The first time I tried to type this my Surface frozen without reason and had to be properly closed. OK, I'll update the RAM on my Dell Dimension 4700 and I need help and advice before I do. My Dell says it has 0.99 GB of RAM installed. I looked inside and found that there are two sticks of 512 MB of RAM. I found (2 sticks of 1 GB) 2GB of RAM for Dell Dimension 4700 at amazon.com and intend to purchase that. So when I update the RAM I get two sticks of 512 MB and replaced with new 2 sticks of 1 GB from amazon? Are there precautions should I take? (In addition to wear an anti-static wristband) Thank you.

Before you buy, go to http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner

Download and run the Crucial scanner.  This will tell you:

    • supports memory of how many are in your computer
    • How much memory is in each
    • the maximum memory that can be installed on your computer and how
    • the right kind of RAM in your computer

Do not buy crucial, but pay attention to what the scanner says that you need.

In short, if you have only two supports from memory, then Yes, you need to remove the memory that is in them to put in new RAM.  However, just because you can buy two memory modules of 1 GB does not necessarily that your motherboard will accept them.

    When replacing memory.

    See http://www.crucial.com/wcsstore/CrucialSAS/pdf/install-guides/ram/crucial-dram-install-guide-en.pdf

    • take precautions against static - touch the chassis first; do not touch the contacts of the RAM modules
    • Unlock the pliers and pull it up
    • Orient the new module properly - there is usually only one way correct to put in - and push straight down firmly, but without wavering until closing locks.

  • Failures of Dell Dimension 4700

Hello! This is my first post. I came here for support on one of my older Dell systems today, my only first. (I did recently acquired another). It was my first computer, a helping hand me down from my parents back in 2011. He never ran well. I blamed it on a lot of things to the wire of time, starting with the aging of processor Pentium 4, bad caps on the motherboard to hard drive errors. USB works, extremely slow performance, stops and weird/sali post codes at the start are all symptoms. Once I hit him (not very hard) once out of frustration and she completely restarted. Then, it worked fine for months. This weekend, however, I was reached behind the unit to plug in a USB key (the front USBs long quit date, as I mentioned above) and it stops without any sign of restart. I have tried unplugging for a while, and then reconnect (it worked in the past, it has happened before), but it did not help. I checked on the inside, and the Green LED on the motherboard was off. Then, I started to suspect the PSU. A paper clip test confirmed my suspicions... and I could see the capacitors that have failed inside during the inspection below. I tested the power supply that failed but in my other 4700, and it failed. I borrowed the PSU work from this computer and put it in one with faulty POWER, but instead of starting block flashes an orange light by the power button. The power failure took the motherboard with it: (?) Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

  • Dimension 4700 does not

    Hello world

I have a Dimension 4700 with installed XP3 that recently started having a problem shortly after the start. The owner told me she was online when she got a BSOD. However, she cut the power without note the exact error message. Since that date, when the PC boots, it stops responding almost immediately after loading. The mouse & keyboard seem to work, but I can't click on the icons for items in the start menu. CTRL-Alt-Delete to open the Task Manager, but it does not meet the shutdown command.

Virus-free, ran clean in safe mode, and even tried to change MSCONFIG for diag mode, but no change. I did a complete scan and it found no errors.

Before you do a system reinstall, can anyone think another possible cause?

    Thank you in advance.

If you end the Explorer process in the Manager of tasks and then restart it by running ecplorer.exe is the system restore?

Probably, you should perform a new installation, see my Guide for reinstalling Windows / A Clean Windows XP installation for detailed instructions:

  • support for CUDA graphics card

    Hello!

I just installed a trial version of Adobe first Pro CS5.5.

A popup window tells me to download a graphic CUDA driver for a better rendering.

In the list of supported graphics cards my card does not appear.

    NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT

In the details section of this card, it shows me the following: 32 CUDA cores

Does that mean now that it supports CUDA or not - is - do I have to install another driver for it - I'm confused...

BTW. system requirements recommend RAID 0 for uncompressed video.

So far, I use different fast HD but no RAID 0. In what scenario will be victim?

    concerning

Here is the list of the supported graphics processors: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html

The GeForce 9500 GT is not in the list of supported cards. A lot of cards that have CUDA is not supported by the CS5.5 body. It is not strictly CUDA body makes use of all areas... Organization requires a handful of specifications that CUDA is the primary but not the only one.

Your card meets most of the requirements of the software, but only the cards that Adobe has actually tested and approved will be listed as supported cards. Only these cards are supported by default in the functioning of the body CS5.5.

With that said, you can ALWAYS try to get the body to use your GeForce 9500 GT GPU using the 'hack' that a lot of users have posted in the forum (I never had to use it, or know the link, but I think that if search you the forum for 'hack GPU' then you will find probably). The 'hack' is NOT taken in charge, and even if change you successfully the necessary bits of code, it is not guaranteed that your GPU works or that it will work well.

Yet once, only the GPU listed at the link above and stated as 'supported' by Adobe are guaranteed to give you the desired results of playback engine Mercury.

About RAID 0 and video uncompressed... you use true uncompressed video? Many people do not, instead of use formats like DV, HDV, AVCHD, DVCProHD, ProRes, etc.. A RAID 0 is perhaps a good idea if you use 5 simultaneous streams of video from the same player, but it's really a whole topic altogether. If you use UNCOMPRESSED video, then your hard disk configuration and RAID are of main importance for smooth playback. CPU becomes less important, since there is nothing to "decompress." However, for DV, AVCHD formats and disc hard similar speed is relatively unimportant because the files are generally well below the speed of the flow of a standard disc (medium-sized AVCHD around 17 to 25 Mbps, which is nothing). However, with these more compressed formats such as AVCHD your CPU must be extremely tough because it does all the work of decompression of the video for playback on the fly.

    I hope this helps!
