Switching UCS issues

I'm a little worried as to why oversubscription of 2:1 is the best possible between the servers and the fabric extensions (for example, 8 x 10 G of the impeller, with 4 x 10 G uplink Ports interfaces).  If there is no QoS it (b/c there is no switching), then what happens if these congested uplinks?  It seems that there is no way to give priority to traffic until the fabric interconnect.

During the subscription between interconnects & chassis is not 1:1...

Three options are 8:1, 4:1 & 2:1

Each blade has a bottom of basket unique link to each fabric.  Two servers x 8 Server connections is 16 FCoE links without total loss.

To manage congestion 802.1Qbb priority Flow Control is used.  Above & also if you think that you push something close to line you can implement 1000v & QoS.

  • PIX 501 Switch hardware Issue

    My PIX 501 switch stopped working or has failed. The PIX is 10 months old. This is the second time I've seen that happen. The first time I sent it fixed by repair out of warranty, but they couldn't fix it. They said it was a chip owner they could not get from Cisco.

    In any case, the unit has power. I am able to connect through the console and the WAN via SSH port. It is fully operational with the exception of the portion of the switch of the device.

    Has anyone seen this kind of problem before? I've never seen a switch or a hub spoil. It's the second PIX to go wrong in the same local area network installed. PCs and servers all continue networking function wise, so connected to another switch.

    Is that what I can do about this problem?

    Thank you

    Vince,

    It depends on what type contract you have. You can open a TAC case and they will let you know the track.

    Let me know if you have any questions.

  • HP 2910 al Switch Firmware issue

    Dear support,

    I've recently updated some switches of al 2910 HP for the latest firmware to version W.14.70.

    Since then, I am now unable to set the port speed to auto-100 (for example) the value by default auto-1000.

    I checked the same question on the following models:

    J9148A

    J9147A

    J9146A

    I suspect that it would also affect a J9145A, but I don't have one of them. Any help would be appreciated.

    Just to confirm, I have now downgraded the firmware to W.14.38, and the problem is solved. I can now set a port to auto-100 for example, the default auto-1000.

    This is clearly a bug. Can it be transmitted to the necessary people? Thank you!

  • UCS mac address problem

    Hi all

    simple question...

    You may know if it is a bug of mac address learning with version 1.4.1?

    I have go a blade with a mix of palo and other cards, some vnic are pinned to link rising with trunk allowed vlan 501 on both sides. On the blades of the UCS, i've got ESX and ESXi. Service console is labelled VLAN 501 (depending on the configuration of the trunk switch UCS and uplink). Some blade had obtained these interface pinned on the UCS6100 A and another on B (with failover). The fact is that if I ping from outside UCS UCS (ESX) inside no learning of mac is performed on all infrastructure.

    I don't know problem is the UCS because if I erase the mac table UCS, nothing works... and all the works if I start doing a ping of the UCS. I also tried to put the switch uplink static mac (ESX service console) but was not helpful.

    I hope this isn't a 1.4.1 bug...

    TNX and tnx for help

    Dan

    Y at - it you using uplink groups pine or have a network of layer 2 disjoint by chance?

    Questions like these are ususally PIN-related groups / Disjoint L2 using the wrong link DR port for traffic entering.  When the traffic is generated from within the outgoing UCS, the MAC table is updated on the upstream switch which allows traffic to flow, until he gets older.

    If one of them is the case I suggest take you a look at the videos of Brad name video #6:

  • without uplinks in dvSwitch created by UCS vCSA 6.0, 6.0u1b, 6.0u2 Manager

    I try to configure passthru vnic UCS in vCenter Server Appliance 6.0u1b. I had:

    1. updated my UCS field for the 2.2 version (6f).
    2. installed VMware-VCSA-all - 6.0.0 - 3343019.iso;
    3. installed ESXi 5.1 with the latest updates and cisco-vem-v151 - 5.1 - 1.1.1.1.zip;
    4. moved this 5.1 to vCenter ESXi host;
    5. exported vCenter extension of UCS Manager;
    6. any succesfully extension to vCenter;
    7. created vCenter, Datacenter, folder and DVS in the UCS Manager;

    After a few moments UCS created this DVS in vCenter. When I try to move 5.1 ESXi host at this DVS, there is no uplinks:

    60.png

    VCenter then unable to bind ESXi vmnic for anything whatsoever. In addition, I tried to add an ESXi host to DVS without uplinks and obviously it worked. For example, it is a screenshot of vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 in the same window of uplinks. Servers is B200-M4 with VIC 1340 adapters to the chassis with modules e/s 2208XP. Is it possible to install vnic passthru vCSA 6.0u1b and ESXi 5.1/5.5 Server blades Cisco UCS?

    This is a bug of the vmware vsphere web 6.0 client, 6.0u1b, 6.0u2 and maybe later versions. It can not find or just cannot display the uplinks in ucs-associated distributed switch. so I could not add the host to the switch via vmware vsphere client web. uplinks in switch is very good, so this bug have several workaround solutions. host can be added to the distributed switch ucs related through:

    1. application of VMware vsphere client. It will automatically assign first free uplink in the switch and i/o directpath will work;
    2. profiles of the host. in this case I can attribute any any vmnic uplink as I want. This can be done in vsphere client of web as application of vmware vsphere client.
    3. client VMware console or sdk. I did not tried this case, but I guess it will work fine.

  • How can I update to network without WIRE Draft 802.11n draft 5742z-4200 adapter

    I have an Acer Aspire 5742z-4200, and it came with a mini PCI-E card of draft 802.11n.  I didn't need much in the way of transfer speed out of the machine most of the time I've owned it, but now all of a sudden.

    I bought two Inetl 802.11 b/g/n/ac cards, assuming that the PCI-E was a standard housing, and one card would work, like the other, but with different capacities.  That doesn't seem to matter of bethe.  After installation of each, the PC started very slowly, but has managed to load network tot connect drivers and even transfer files at lightning speed, compared to my connection 802.11 g.  But overall, the laptop is too slow to use.

    A little research on Google introduced me to the term 'material whitelist.  I imagine that it is also possible tensions, frequency of the bus or whatever it is of another participant might be incompatible.  The PC works fine with the old card in it, so I don't think I have anything damaged.  Does anyone know what I need to do to upgrade the WLAN card in my laptop?  If I'm relegated to get a USB adapter?

    Thanks for your help!

    OK, some more application of Google-fu, and I read more on the subject of the registration of the pins with more recently introduced functions.  Pin 20 seemed to have something to with a wireless radio turn off the feature that did not have previous PCIe slots/motherboards.  The symptom seems to be no visible from card otherwise functional networks.  PIN 51 resembled a new feature/issue and seemed to have something with the ability to disable the radio more than one.  (The 802.11ac card I got a bluetooth as well.)  It is manufactured by chipzilla, a nd a 2.4 and 5 Ghz frequencies for WLAN function. I wanted the frequencies and the 802.11ac and struggled to find one without Bluetooth.  It was $ 31).

    This PC is quite old now (Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz, DDR3 1333 MHz RAM - a bit slow, but with a small SSD, it's fine for my purposes.) and not worth much and I save all the time so I decided to give it a shot.  I don't know the rules here to post links, so I don't want to, but they are not hard to find.  A few people have even posted revision of the Chipzilla official on the mini PCIe spec for the addition of several start/stop function triggered on the PIN 51 radio.  PIN Ribbon 51 seems to have solved the problem completely.

    Yet now my machine starts quick, the transfer rate WiFi is what it should be and if I don't have any Bluetooth use, the devices all appear OK in Device Mangler.  I guess that all 802.11ac cards with several radio stations have this PIN 51 - multiple radio disable switch compatibility issues when used in older laptops.  I look around a bit for one with no Bluetooth, but saw nothing so I decided to try the hack.  If the thing starts to smoke or whatever it is, I'll come back and update this thread.  I wouldn't spread dangerous advice.

    Thanks again, Chris.

  • Carry the HTTP versus Email Gateway

    Which mode is usually preferred for the Transport gateway: HTTP or email? Are there advantages to use one mode rather than the other?

    Do not forget to speak with someone from Cisco on it and remember that they had some good arguments for which mode has been a favorite, but I can not remember the content of this discussion, it seems to me

    We must separate the if we are talking about traffic in the terminal (router, switch, UCS to the transport gateway) traffic from the Cisco Smart Call Home backend transport gateway or terminal directly to the Smart Call Home of Cisco backend.

    The transport gateway is essentially a proxy server for your devices in the range while the terminals themselves do not have to speak through the internet. Any worthy of their name network engineer blocks the traffic generated by their devices (routers, switches) infrastructure to the internet for security reasons. The only exceptions, that I might consider would be firewalls that are sitting at the boundary between the internet and internal network. I leave those to communicate directly with the Cisco Smart Call Home via HTTPS backend. But I'd probably rather they speak to the Transport gateway and allow only the transport gateway to speak through the internet for the Cisco Smart Call Home backend, so you can more easily track outbound communications.

    Traffic from end devices to the transport gateway, I recommend you to HTTPS. The downside is more complicated to install the certificate. This would encrypt the traffic between the terminal and the gateway of transport. Or we can assume that the internal network is secure against eavesdropping. In this case, any method (email, http, https) to the transport gateway is fine. I don't like this kind of support.

    When I use e-mail? Well, some devices like the UCS can only do email so there is no other choice. The UCS send an email to the email address of the transport gateway and the gateway of transport can download it. Unfortunately, the high-end devices is simple SMTP on port 25, which is sent in the clear (unencrypted) from the terminal on the mail server.

    For traffic from gateway transport for the Smart Call Home, the transport gateway backend it always crypt via HTTPS to send to the backend Smart Call Home of Cisco.

    So you might ask: "If the terminal can send * email * to Smart Call Home backend Cisco directly. Yes, but this is not recommended because it is sent in the clear (unencrypted) through the internet.

    You might also ask: "What about anonymous Smart Call Home?" Well, in this case, the customer doesn't have a smartnet contract and help Cisco Reporting crashes on their device to end (like Windows error reporting, and reporting of errors to Apple). The terminal automatically configure and make an HTTPS connection directly to the Cisco's Smart Call Home backend when it reports an error.

    Cisco is transitional software for anonymous clients Smart Call Home to facilitate configuring HTTPS turns on and then saved configuration Call Home. This completely removes the configuration of the end-user certificate.

  • Global vs FIC VSAN specific on NGC

    What is the difference and therefore the impact of the creation of a global VSAN (VSAN noticeable to both fabric interconnect) rather than creating a VSAN FIC - A and FIC - B-specific?

    I create Global and then assign one to vHBA - a FIC - A and the other to vHBA-b on FIC - B.

    Also, with the FC Switching (UCS 1.4) this (set) get worse?

    Aida,.

    This comes down to design.  Most people like to keep their completely separate SAN fabrics.  Unlike in the passage where the uplinks are crisscrossed every way imaginable for redundancy, in the CF world, that's all that separates your fabrics.  For this you would normally connect a FI to a single switch SAN (fabric-A) upstream and the other END to their other (fabric (B).  You would create the VSAN on the fabric of interconnection rather than overall as you do not need two available on the two FI VSANS.

    Another approach is to create in the world, but in this design, need you either a link between each FI and SAN EACH switch or use VSAN circuits (assuming the two VSANS exists on both the SAN upstream switches). The complication here is when you set your vHBAs, you must assign them to a VSAN on A or b.  It is a hard hairpin and offers benefits without hot spare. There is no failover with CF as there is for the Ethernet (aka Fabric Failover).  All CF redundancy is managed at the level of the BONE by multipathing drivers.

    The first design keeps your CF much more simple and deterministic access.  You know that all vHBAs connected to the fabric Interconnect-A go to VSAN X, and all the vHBAs related to the fabric Interconnect-B go to VSAN Y.  This is assuming that you're only using two VSANS for your environment.

    The only time wherever you need FC switch mode is if you plan use direct attach FC/FCoE tables with your interconnections.  There is no increase in complexity here regarding the VSAN design, same best practices apply.

    Kind regards

    Robert

    I have lack of VLAN, how can I edit and update the information of vlan?

    Of UCS Manager? I don't have 1000v.

    Hello

    To add VLANs, you must go to the LAN tab, create them and after that, add them to the vNIC of blades you want to pass traffic for that/those support VLAN.

    You have configured a VLAN in UCSM native?

    The two, ESXi01 ESXi02 & use the same fabric for interconnection to pass traffic?  If a host goes through A traffic and the other through B, traffic will need to visit the switch upstream as cause of tissue switches do not switch traffic between them.

    Try the commands below and paste it here:

    * Connect nxos one | b< first="" try="" "a"="" then="" "b"="" and="" the="" output="" of="" the="" below="" command="" for="">

  • Retrieve the FI

    We took an extended power failure, and one of our FI does not come back.

    We reset the power on it, he'll be back, but there is no hope.

    Connect a console to this topic and start again explained the problem as a corrupt image.  The question I have is that you?  I went 3 special firmwares on that I have to create a TAC case.

    I can say that it starts successfully the boot image:

     Booting kickstart image: bootflash:/installables/switch/ucs-6100-k9-kickstart.5.2.3.N2.2.23f.bin.................................................................................................................................Image verification OK
    It seems that it is the actual image:

    Then a LOT of mistakes, until finally I find myself here:

     Enter the configuration method. (console/gui) ?
    It's a laboratory system, so I have the luxury of screwing around with it without it affecting what it is. My thoughts are:
    1. Unplug the cables of L1/L2 (in fact, all cables)
    2. go through the installation of the console
    3. Connect to the GUI
    4. upgrade (?) to the same version already on it
    5. Factory reset it
    6. Reconnect the L1/L2 (and all cables)
    7. fingers crossed?
    Sound like a plan, or am I missing an easier way?

    Hi Michael,

    Looks like you hit one of these flaws:

    https://Tools.Cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCut63966/?reffering_site=dumpcr

    https://Tools.Cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCus79160/?reffering_site=dumpcr

    You can try workarounds that you mentioned, but if you see always all services to crash upon restart, you will need to repair the file system. You can open a TAC case to do this.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Cannot ping new addresses IP vmkernel

    I created a few exchanges of vmkernel iSCSI in new bond for our 10G storage on a new vSwitch but I can't ping the IP addresses assigned to them (10.1.45.187 and 188). I have the same setup on a different host and it works very well. I swapped the connections on the 10G switch with those of the host of work as well as cables, so I know it isn't a switch port, the switch config issue or the cable. I even swapped the IP with the work those just to make sure.

    But if I SSH to another host on the same network I can ping those IP vmkernal addresses I can't from my desktop. I can also ping vmkernel IP addresses on the host of my office work that is on the same subnet as the host of non-working. I cannot ping the vmkernel IPs of a host on a different subnet, but can ping ports vmkernel work of host to a host on another subnet.

    I don't know that it's just something simple that I'm missing... I hope!

    Don't ask me why I have not found this before, but here's the answer to my question. I can give me points?

  • I switch to Chrome because of problems with default printer. When can I expect this issue for a long time or my switch will be permanent?

    Whenever I change a print setting, firefox that shows the default setting. For example, I want to print a document in landscape, and now all my documents print in landscape unless I have reset firefox or I might want to print only once another printer, but now, this printer is enabled in my default printer. It is a huge pain and I got tired to reset firefox several times a day.

    I love everything about firefox, but this issue me leave.

    Please solve this problem which is the infestation of users of firefox for years! And let me know when you do.

    Thank you!

    By default, Firefox to save a setting like the new "default". You can change it to not save the settings by enabling / disabling this pref in Subject: config.

    by default Print.save_print_settings is true : double-click to switch to false.
