  I have a new Vista 64 bit operating system and I'm having problems that everyone else is still.  Can't hotsync using the cable.  I bought the dongle bluetooth (Kensington) that many have said works.  My phone recognizes the PC.  My instructions on the phone that warm using bluetooth synchronization tells me to set up a virtual serial port.  The instructions are not very clear.  This is where it falls apart for me.  Can someone explain how to configure this virtual serial port?  Thank you.

  Well, I'm pleased to announce a successful solution.  On the recommendation of some other son that I left and piece and ioGear GBU321 Bluetooth USB key and Setup was a snap and it works (although SLOOOWLY compared to a connection cable, a while and plug your treo during your first sync).

  To setup you do the following (and this can also work for your Kensington):

  • Insert the driver CD
  • Insert the dongle when asked.
  • Install the drivers
  • Pair your device.  Basically, go to the configuration Bluetooth on the Palm screen and select "Trusted Devices".  You will find the bluetooth adapter, select it, and then the Palm or PC will provide or ask a pairing code.  The instructions will guide you through, but basically, you'll want to make sure that the same numbers are registered on both screens (this prevents you from accidentally pairing with some random near the computer)
  • This will actually set up your virtual port for you.
  • You can go to the hotsync Manager and click on "serial" and select the port created in the pairing process.
  • If you don't know which port has been created "Control Panels" and select "Phone and Modem" (assuming that you are in "Classic view").
  • Click on the modem tag and you will see something like 'Standard Modem over Bluetooth link' and next to that it will be the assigned port.

  I hope this helps.  I know that I was relieved not to have to trash my Palm or my PC (although when the Pre or iPhone with a physical keyboard comes out all bets are open)

• Palm 755 p falls short in something just for me.

  I bought my Palm Treo because I am often making appointments and I needed a friendly calendar app user with a display of the hour by hour. This phone has been about what I needed, and it blows away the competition in this aspect.

  However, the only characteristic that it is absent, is the ability to take the coordinates of a current phone call and regular plug it directly into a slot on the calendar of the hour by hour.

  So, I'm not sure where the appropriate place to make suggestions, but this feature would be an astonishing upgrade for future phones or even as downloadable upgrade to the current 755 p.

  My appointments were fine synchronization.  Some refuse now to synchronize.

  They were formerly several days appts.  I've changed them.  Still no synchronization.

  I tried a "desktop substitutes Handheld" sync - still not here.

  Here's the appts for my office.

  I did a soft reset on the handheld - still no go.

  Nothing in the error log.

  It was working fine.

  What to do next?

• Upgrade to Palm Treo 755 p - data and synchronization programs

  I have a Palm 700 p with Verizon Wireless, I just bought a new unlocked Palm 755 p for Verizon Wireless. I have several 3rd software left loaded on my Palm 700 p including Chapura key Palm Suite. I want to transfer all my programs and data of the 700 p for the new 755 p, but I also want to install the new palm desktop with new programs, such as Google.

  Assuming I have hot sync my 700 p with my PC, then activate my new phone (and disable my 700 p), how can I then do?

  If you want to copy all the data and programs for the new Treo, you can synchronize the data from the same user name after you rename the backup on the PC folder in the user_name folder. The only problem is that you will need to re - install 3 third party programs. You cannot synchronize to the same user name with the old Treo backup folder. The devices are not the same model and it will cause problems because the setings and preferences of the backup folder.

  Follow this procedure to rename the backup folder.

  Looks like you may need to reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Then before of you hotsync your data back you will need to rename your backup folder, to do than go here.

  file Backup.Old

  Then hotsync from your current name of hotsync and all your contacts, calendar,

  If you can not see the extensions of file on your PC, I would like to you to open a
  folder, go to Tools--> Folder Options--> View (tab) and under Show hidden
  files and folders, clear the Hide extensions for known file types.

  files and folders to uncheck Hide extensions of known file types.

• Treo 755 p - delay of shift

  I use a Treo 755 p for Sprint with Palm OS Garnet v.5.4.9.

  My problem is that my Treo has a several second delay or delay in recognition of the SHIFT key pressed (for the manufacture of capitalization).  So, even though I know you're supposed to be able to press the SHIFT key, then the uppercase letter, it does not work for me.  An up arrow appears immediately on the extreme right, but the Treo has a significant delay in the recognition in fact the shift function.  If I hold down the SHIFT key, and press a letter, I get a capital letter.  But then when I release the passage and continue with lowercase letters I can write only one or two letters when the deferred update function belately kicks in and I get a letter uppercase, inserted in the middle of my word.  Usually, it is the third letter.  Thus the words I write tend to look like this:

  It is very annoying because I constantly need to go back and fix/remove capital letters.  This happens by typing throughout the Treo (calendar, notes, emails).  I want to emphasize that this is not a case where the Treo between Shift lock.  There's just a capital letter based on the delay when I pressed the SHIFT key at the beginning of the word.  I have not experienced a similar problem with the Option key down (the white button on the far left used for numbers and special symbols)

  So, my questions are:

  1 has anyone else experienced this problem?

  2. is it possible to adjust (reduce) the amount delayed integrated function of the SHIFT key?  Or even remove the delay entirely so this update only works if you hold it simultaneously with another key?

  3 - is it seems likely to be a hardware or software problem?  I have add this problem with my Palm 755 p since I started using it.

  Then, try a reboot hot (soft reset + louder on the nav 5 lanes) to see if any software you have is originally from lag. Some things stick like a leech on the keyboard, and although they can do their job, they can create some lag when another application is in conflict with it.

• Serial connection initialization failed, the selected port to COM8 is not available at this time. HotSync Manager will open the port when it becomes available.

  I use the Vista operating system, have a Palm 755 p smartphone and a computer portable 64-bit Dell.  I understand that Palm decided that they would not develop drivers for 64-bit, so I can't sync via USB to my computer and had to set up sync via Bluetooth.  (Seems easy, but since no one knew that this was the problem, it caused hours of phone/chat sessions.  But Palm is eager to accept money for the product for which they provide limited support).  In any case, I get the error message that is expressed in the question of the title / at least three times every time I refresh or starting a computer.  Do you know how I can eliminate this and retain the ability to sync the Palm to the computer?  It's as if synchronization manager thinks I'm syncing with usb and shows it not available because it is not configured to do so through that connection.  "Don't know - I would just like to safely eliminate this error message - and it would be a bonus if Palm would be their product and provide both drivers, but its doubtful."

• Retrieve my Contacts

  Recently, I replaced my Sprint Samsung Epic 4 G and lost all my contacts.

  I still have my old Palm 755 p (a cell phone and a large BONE, I replaced it when the touch screen cracked) with contacts always available.

  I regularly hotsynced (7.0.2) the phone at my work desk and the phone itself are always accessible.  I do not synchronize Outlook, as I didn't want to mix my own business with my email email.

  What are the options I have to transfer my contacts to my new phone?

  I have changed the sync settings, found the sync cable, sync the phone.

  Outlook creates a separate folder.  I used 'export to a file"selected. CSV and saved on my desktop.

  Then I used GMail, "import contacts" and had then my sync phone with GMail.

  My mistake... not edit my Contacts before sync... There are duplicates of the numbers, with and without hyphen.  Well...

  Last night we had a power outage for 1-1/2 hour, and 23 was running. After the reboot, I get a "beep" audio random every 5 seconds. He put muted when the mute on the keyboard is reached. I noticed that in Device Manager views, immediately after the beep, the DM flashes her refreshes & happens right every time after the beep. I googled the problem and the only solution I've found suggest opening the ease of access to the control panel Board and setting visual alternatives to use text or visual for sound alternatives the "nothing", but that had no effect, the beeps kept beeping.

  OK problem solved. I have a usb2 hub, one of the connections in the hub is my Palm 755 p cell. I have disdconnected first hub & the "beep" had disappeared. So I reconnected the hub & started to remove the different connected point via the hub. When I disconnected the cell phone of the hub, the ringing has stopped, and the phone showed 2 voicemails. When I reinstalled the phone in his ' charger/usb connection to the hub after delete 2 messages the beep stopped. Problem solved! Thank you very much.

  What no other body has ever had this problem?  Appears so because no one answers.  Well here it is again.

  Palm 755 p, Vista 64-bit notebook PC, HotSync manager 7.0.2 PalmDesktop 6.2.2 DocsToGo 11.0. When I HotSync the Palm to PC via bluetooth, not only don't HotSync crash if there are a lot of documents selected for synchronization, HotSync wants to create a new document with a name that has been added with name_1 or name1, even if there is a document on the Palm and the PC with the same exact name. How can I get HotSync to understand that I want just to sync my Palm with PC using the same name? And why HotSync crash when several documants are selected for synchronization?

  I tried to download the 'Treo Voice Dialing"in the area of bonus software to http://ws.palm.com/.  I get the screen to enter my serial number.  Once I get that (and it usually takes about 3 or 4 tries to enter the CORRECT number so he could get accepted), I get the error 'we are sorry - page not found. "  Any suggestions?  FTP site?  something?   I don't want to use the functionality provided through my phone because I don't have a data plan.

  I have a problem on my phone Palm Treo 755. When I use the desktop icon on the phone, or on the button for the calendar, the two will control a power re-set on the entire Palm.  My Sprint repair station Tech said that it could not find a fix and button pads, good mine. Thus, he says, are the palm on my last computer software version. I discovered, I have a version 4.2. The Tech said I should have a 7.0.2. loaded on my computer, to compensate the two sync properly. Everything worked fine, until then. It's the first, what happened.

  Modify your program to synchronize Outlook with the 755 p.  Synchronize Outlook data, and then the new device be.

• Password of memos

  I want to put a note on my palm 755 p in the 'Notes' section and protect it with a password.  The information screens seem to speak a password, but I can't find out how to put one on a memo.  Can anyone help

  Hello and welcome to the Community Forums of Palm.

  Built-in Palm applications, including memos can be protected by a password that you create in the security application.  Then after you have created the password, you can also the value of privacy setting or show records, mask or hide the records.

  Then, in a memo, press the Details button and check the box to make it private.
