symbol of hidden character - blue book

-Very well, to control upstream... Why I see a little symbol of blue book in the upper left of a few pages (revealed hidden characters)...

And this OCD is unreal, now a textframe in excess... Why the Red litte box would be 2 pages from the bottom since the end of the table of contents and not the same immediate page or the next day?

If I can get past this, I might be close.

Something else, which is the little blue thing in the middle of the leaders at the time, for each row in the table of contents, offest mutually each line...

THX

The # indicates the end of a story. It will appear in the upper left corner of each text block until you add text, how it will appear at the end of any text, including text thread to another frame. The most common reason to see it in an unexpected place is default ID to convert any empty or part of a block of text if you click with the text tool. You can select the image and reset the unassigned content. He would show also a white page with a block of text type.

Your other blue brands is the tab. I think that there probably is a graph of nonprinting characters in help, but you should also find a plus to InDesignSecrets.com.

Overset indicators appear in the final image in a thread when there is more text. Open the story editor and see what is in excess, and what is in front of it which could cause intermediate empty pages, but I suspect he didn't really not and you have just mixed pages so that the thread is jumping two pages. Visibility of thread of the text to see what is related to what lights up.

And buy the book.

    Hello

    Can someone look at this snapshot and tell me what is this hidden character?

    Picture 6.png

    Thank you!!

    Babs

    It is a conditional dash. It was inserted by InDesign based on the fact that the break is THERE so that the paragraph you have selected the language and hyphenation and Justification settings. You cannot select this character because it is not part of the story, but it is an automatic link which will disappear if certain changes are made to the text so that it is redéroule or if you change or remove hyphenation.

  • allows you to search/replace to delete certain hidden character

    Hallo, I imported a text file from a CSV using the data merge, now inside indesign text, I find some hidden character as two points (see the screenshot in attachment), what is the code to use in the window search/replace to select and remove all the? I have two years ago but don't remember how.

    Maybe "" in find it field can work (by replacing with nothing). Try first if ID is really something!

  • symbol strange habit to remove (not hidden character - it prints!)

    Hello (again...)

    I have a list of abbreviations with a simple tabs.  Line 1 of page 2 begins with what looks like a reversal "a". It is a kind of marker I think but it is visible and printing. My character is the impression on her as well. It will not erase and I can't select it by copying.

    Is it possible, there are two frames on the other? What happens if there is a block of text that you type and you reassign the master page, for example. Try to move the text block and see if this character goes along for the ride.

  • Question: Symbol sort taxonomy/character below the letter Z?

    I want to sort our taxonomy in two different ways.  I use an astricts (*) to sort above the alpha text, then the alpha order, and I need something to fix the bottom of the letter z.  Is there any known symbol that I use in the ADMN UI that will sort below the text of alpha taxonomy.  Thank you.  -BeckieC

    Thanks for the reply Ron.  ASCII sort order is not viable.  Symbols sort before the alpha characters.  We tested the numbers, symbols, bullets, of underlining, tilda and even foreign charsets.  Sorting is very defined in an Oracle DB per an article in the knowledge base that I read yesterday.  I was checking to see if there is no known option and it seems that there is not.  Thanks again for your response.  -Beckie

  • The source of text of hyperlink destination

    If you go to a destination of the hyperlink text and look in the editor mode, you should be able to see a small symbol that resembles a rounded corner square with a circle and cross inside. I guess that's an invisible text element that is used to bind to the source.

    I want to be able to do is to select one of these items and using JavaScript to select the source element... However, I am having a hard time getting the script to recognize this element as anything... Not to mention about his relationship with a source.

    I hope it's quite explanatory.

    Hi all

    Back from my break.

    I found the problem 2.

    (1) how to get the hyperlink sources since the destinations, i.e. you can so make reverse it as Pickory suggested.

    (2) how to find the symbol of Destination which can be seen on the editor mode, but is not a symbol of hidden character.

    This can be done with indesign GREPs as there is no symbol on the main screan (Peter correct me if I'm wrong), but can be found with a regex in javascript

    reg = /\ufeff/g;
    q = mySelection.contents.search (reg);

    All this does is find the symbol, but that is just a symbol that contains no information, know where it is associated with to compare the point insertion and history co-ordinated the symbol with the values in destinations.

    Of the to do quickly, I make a table (see text)

    There is a problem with that what the values or static is ok for creating an index or something like that, but if we replace the main text story / the symbol insertion point will change and the script won't find the destination with the symbol.  I this is a problem take advantage of re-writing of scripts there.

    Kind regards

    Trevor.

  • Remove the hidden symbol

    Hi guys,.

    What is this hidden character and how can I get rid of him?

    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1bgN04gNHyiCJEPQEyfOYo4adV5Cvo0

    Maybe use GREP? Is the type a extra space, an imported Word text file but I've never seen before.

    Thanks for any help or ideas.

    See you soon,.

    SEBS

    .. and can be replaced by a regular space if you wish. Search for ^ S, replace it with a space. Find and change regularly, no GREP not necessary.

    This is something Word - some authors use it correctly to stick '5' and 'mm' together, others use it indiscriminately, and when I see that I remove all.

  • Delete the characters hidden before a Word

    I have a problem.

    I have to remove the hidden character before a word (which is repeated in all my doc) but cannot do so.

    The word is the PRICE, and when I copy the word and paste it into search and replace appears as: ~ IPRICE (in GREP), but if I don't him find, found nothing... This character ~ I is that I have to remove or change it ~ IPRICE for only the PRICE.

    Someone knows how to do this?

    I have attatch the image of this disorder.

    Thanks in advance!col_pruebas2.jpg

    Have you checked your search settings (search the entire document for example)?

    Try to open the story editor cmd + y (for mac) and check if you see a symbol as in my screenshoot

    Maybe it's the destination of the hyperlink. Discover on the hyperlinks Panel, click on Options of Destination of a hyperlink.

    You can remove this Panel.

    However it's printing characters

  • serious error font book when installing fonts

    I'm working on a project of layout for a client who sent me a few project-specific fonts. Installing, several (not all) came up with the "serious mistake of fonts, do not use this font" in the font book.

    It is possible that these fonts are damaged indeed somehow (I asked the customer to other versions), I wonder what means this error and how serious is it? Is there another tool/software that I can use to assess these fonts, or book fonts isn't the best option?

    I use a MacBook Pro with Yosemite

    While the symbol 'attention' of the font book can be ignored in almost all cases, if it shows a font is seriously damaged, do not use it. Fonts are plug-ins for the operating system and use RAM for each one that is active. A severely corrupt police going to do the same things poorly written or damaged app will do. As a corrupter of RAM used by other applications.

    Apps as FontDoctor is maybe able to fix it, but it's not free. Well, it's sort of free with the purchase of Suitcase Fusion (you get an activation code for both). FontDoctor can be purchased separately.

    First of all, I would like to see if your client you can send own copies. For example to put all the fonts in a .zip file and e-mailing you. This will not help of course if they are corrupt on end of the customer first. If this is the case, they will need download new copies from the seller, they bought them from CD/DVD if they in this way. Then send those to you.

  • How can I play an animation in reverse only if the symbol that contains the animation is visible? If the symbol is not visible have the trigger is no longer target this symbol?

    Hello

    I have a button made two functions at the same time. He plays animation a symbol upside down (to hide) and she slides an element. the animation of symbols is triggered by another button (which is irrelevant). So my problem is that if the animation has been triggered, first that when the button is pressed the animation plays in the sense opposite, the symbol is hidden and everything is fine, but if a helping hand as the button before the animation starts to blink in the opposite direction. SO, how can I learn to play the opposite during the animation of the symbol has run. I know that it is an if / else statement but I have no idea how to do it.

  • Add the character from of a family of fonts

    Hello

    There are a few examples available on the evolution of the existing styles etc. quites, but is possible to add extend script if they are not yet added?

    Example:

    I feel a certain framework of documents by using for example [symbol] as police. Talked normally all channels in my file that use the symbol should have character symtag label, however, for some, it is absent and which is causing issues when structuring my documents. symtag is just a fictional name for a charactertag in my catalog.

    So what I want to do is the following:

    (1) open document

    (2) review the document and for each character using symbol such as a police, check if it is to have the label of character symtag, otherwise add it.

    (3) save and close

    (1 and 3) are quite easy (well, kind of... off), but I can't find anything on how to do 2) work, I'm not even sure it's possible with extendscript start with.

    If she can keep things simple, it's always a unique character that uses the fonts in question.

    Thanks in advance for anything that can help me get started!

    A small point, but you don't need this:

    doc.TextSelection = textRange;

    This has been used so that you could see each portion of text highlighted while you were testing on a single paragraph, but it is not necessary in the completed script.

    Also an old man scolding you for your approach. I had my original code set up to work on the paragraph containing the insertion point. This is a useful approach because you can test and troubleshoot issues on a single paragraph. Then, once everything works on this paragraph, you can expand the script to work on several paragraphs, documents, etc.. But you went ahead and expanded the script until you got it working on the single paragraph. Therefore, it is difficult to know exactly where the problem is. So, at the risk of being tedious, back on the original code and a paragraph that contains the insertion point. I have slightly modified the code and put it in a function.

    #target framemaker

    var doc = app.ActiveDoc;
    var pgf = doc.TextSelection.beg.obj;
    cleanPgf (pgf, doc);

    function cleanPgf (pgf, doc) {

        var textList = pgf.GetText (Constants.FTI_CharPropsChange);
        var fontName;
        var begOffset = 0, endOffset = 0, textRange;

        for (var i = 0; i < textList.length; i += 1) {
            endOffset = textList[i].offset;
            if (endOffset  > begOffset) {
                textRange = new TextRange(new TextLoc (pgf, begOffset), new TextLoc (pgf, endOffset));
                fontName = (doc.GetTextPropVal(textRange.beg, Constants.FP_FontPlatformName).propVal.sval);
                if (/symbol/i.test (fontName) === true) {
                    alert (fontName);
                }
                begOffset = endOffset;
            }
        }
        textRange = new TextRange(new TextLoc (pgf, begOffset), new TextLoc (pgf, Constants.FV_OBJ_END_OFFSET));
        fontName = (doc.GetTextPropVal(textRange.beg, Constants.FP_FontPlatformName).propVal.sval);
        if (/symbol/i.test (fontName) === true) {
            alert (fontName);
        }
    }

    When you run this in a paragraph containing the symbol, you should see the alert displays the name of the police. You can replace the alert lines with calls to another function:

    function applyCharFmt (textRange, charFmtName, doc) {

        var charFmt = doc.GetNamedCharFmt (charFmtName);
        if (charFmt.ObjectValid()) {
            doc.SetTextProps (textRange, charFmt.GetProps());
        }

    }

    The problem in your code has this line:

    props = doc.GetProps(CharFmtId);

    that should have been:

    props = CharFmtId.GetProps();

    I use a slightly different syntax with the same result. Once get you it working on a single paragraph, you can extend it safely to work on all paragraphs in the document.

  • Trying a symbol of inside another symbol show() and play()

    Hello world!

    I'm running on a problem that is driving me crazy.

    I have the following case:

    -1 symbol (_Page_Background) containing an animation with the trigger next @0 s:

    Hide the symbol
    sym.getParentSymbol ().$("_Page_Background").hide ();

    Stop it

    SYM. Stop();

    -1 element (B_TOYS), inside a symbol (BUTTONS) with the trigger 'click' next:

    Showing the symbol _Page_Background

    sym.getComposition () .getStage ().getSymbol("_Page_Background").show ();

    Start playing it

    sym.getComposition () .getStage ().getSymbol("_Page_Background").play ("INTRO");

    The _Page_Background symbol starts hidden, as it should. But when I click on the button (B_TOYS), nothing happens. Although everything worked fine before I turned my buttons in symbols...
    I guess the problems lies with the function 'show()', because I have other buttons that works properly, but they don't show/hide anything, they just play()

    Am I missing something?

    Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi, Dimitri.

    You're close enough.  The show() command requires the jQuery handle, so you should use:

    sym.getComposition () .getStage ().$("_Page_Background").show ();

    Hope that helps!

  • derivative of the Index entries

    I am creating an index and would like to see my index entries highlighted in the text during the indexing process. Obviously, these are non-printable. I know that I can view hidden characters and see the blue signs, but there they are so small and difficult to discern with the representation of things hidden character all.

    I thought about setting up of a temporary character style, but some of the entries already have a different character style. Can I do something with layers?

    Ideally, I would like to see a transparent yellow highlight as what you can do with the Acrobat commenting tools.

    I see two problems with your idea

    1. the position of the index mark. It may be the beginning of a Word, or at the end or somewhere in the middle. In fact, it does not matter even if its anywhere near the word, as it is on the same page!

    2. the indexed text. Suppose you have a book on cats and dogs. For the index, you can add all of the cats like 'cats' and dogs like ' canines - the word you put into the Index Entry add should not be literally in your text. '. Another example is "Indexing", which would be indexed as "index" or possibly "index, creating a".

    Now on the right thing!

    You can create a GREP style that highlights the text surrounding an index mark. GREP styles are amazing - even if they apply character Styles, they interfere with any existing character styles! They blend together perfectly. It does not totally reliable - more on that below - but the general idea is:

    a. create a new character style 'Brand of Index'. Set it to emphasize and underline options, set 12 pt thickness, offset to pt - 3 and color to something real bright.

    b. in your main paragraph for the plain text style (you 're using paragraph styles, you're not? if not, you should!), select "GREP Styles.

    c. Add a new GREP style. Define its character style 'Brand of Index' and 'Text' '~I\w+' field - it's an eye in capital letters. Do not add quotation marks.

    d. Add another style GREP. Also define its style of character 'Brand of Index' and set the "text" field "\w+~I" (again, the eye uppercase, no quotes needed).

    e. click OK. Your index entries get highlighted.

    Why is this not perfect? Well, I guess it goes beyond what the Adobe engineers have been imagine we would use GREP styles to. The index mark, tilde-capital eye, seems to mess up the text turns a little. Therefore, the usual "\w+" expected thing pick up as many "Word characters" possible suddenly fails and may be missing a few characters.

    It takes two GREP styles, rather than a ubiquitous '\w*~I\w*' because this was to pick up all the words containing an index mark, but, in reality, does not pick up anything at all.

    There is another small disadvantage: because it's true underlining, it will also print and appear in the PDF files. But it is easily resolved: print (or export to PDF, or whatever), go to the character style "Benchmark" and turn off the underline. If you need to see the markers, put it back on and hey! They - re ba - ack!

    I write the code in a process of 'Treatment of the Page' section.
    The code is:

    DECLARE w_TPS NUMBER (9.7);
    DECLARE w_TVQ NUMBER (9.7);
    DECLARE w_val_tot_lignes NUMBER (15.2);
    Start
    -Lire % GST
    SELECT NUM_PARAMETRE FROM w_TPS
    OF TBL_PARAMETRES
    WHERE COD_PARAMETRE = 'GST ';
    -Lire % QST
    SELECT NUM_PARAMETRE FROM w_TVQ
    OF TBL_PARAMETRES
    WHERE COD_PARAMETRE = 'QST;
    -Calculate total invoice
    SELECT SUM(NUM_HEURES * VAL_TAUX) FROM w_val_tot_lignes
    OF TBL_FACTURES_DETAIL
    WHERE ID_FACTURE_MASTER =: p225_id_facture_master;

    UPDATE tbl_factures_master
    SET VAL_FACTURE_NET = w_val_tot_lignes,
    POU_TPS = w_TPS,
    VAL_TPS = w_val_tot_lignes * w_TPS;
    POU_TVQ = w_TVQ,
    VAL_TVQ = w_val_tot_lignes * w_TPS;
    VAL_FACTURE_TOTAL = (w_val_tot_lignes * w_TPS) + (w_val_tot_lignes * w_TVQ) + w_val_tot_lignes
    WHERE id_facture_master =: p225_id_facture_master;

    end;

    The error:
    ORA-06550: line 3, column 1: PLS-00103: encountered the symbol "DECLARE" when expecting one of the following values: start type of the subtype of the function pragma < an ID > < a double quote delimited identifier > removal of current cursor exists before the symbol 'start' is substituted for 'SAID' continue. ORA-06550: line 4, column 1: PLS-00103: encountered the symbol "DECLARE" when expecting one of the following values: function < an ID > pragma procedure subtype type < to start a double-quotes

    I ran across this myself but I forgot the real reason.

    idea 1: hidden character
    solution: retype everything by hand.
    Make sure you do a 'ctrl-a' to 'select all' before clicking on 'delete' so that it picks up this hidden character.

    idea 2: bad SQL
    If I remember correctly, there was a typing error in my table name or column

    idea 2 b: bad SQL
    I don't see the name of schema for tables in one of your SELECT or UPDATE instructions.
    Try to add them.

    Run each of the SELECT/UPDATE with SQL Developer instructions to see if you notice a bug in the SQL code.
