System library on the external hard drive at home, macbook pro travel?

I migrated my library 250 GB + opening of the photos app and designated as a system library. It is located in a 5 d Drobo (without optimization, i.e. contains all original), which I can't take with me when traveling. I activated the iCloud 3 days ago photo library library half transferred which is pretty good, I guess.

Then, when I travel I'll take my camera and the Macbook pro along.  I want to change the new photos on the road and not wait until I return home. I want to end up with my new photos in their full versions in the library of Drobo and iCloud.

1. when I import new photos for my MBP pictures open and create a new library automatically?

2. If I named this new library as a library system photos will merge with the photos in the cloud?

3. when I go back and fix my MBP on my Drobo, the new photos will end up in the library of photos of Drobo if I designate as a system library again?

4. I can then remove the library of 'travel' from my MBP without deleting anything my iCloud and Drobo.

Also, I'm still on Yosemite. I was already on El Capitan 10.11.1, but upgrading to 10.11.2 was a nightmare, installation stalled repeatedly, I couldn't go back 10.11.1 because it stagnates too and had to return to Yosemite 10.10.5 back up I got the time machine. Photos is 1.0.1. MBP is mid-2014.

I understand a improvements in El Capitan pictures, but

5. the foregoing have an effect on my problem 1-4.

I hope someone can help.

Many thanks in advance,

Olli-Matti

1. when I import new photos for my MBP pictures open and create a new library automatically?

When you launch Photos and your library is not available because the drive is offline, Photos will ask you which library to use. You can create a new library at this stage or open a new one.

2. If I named this new library as a library system photos will merge with the photos in the cloud?

Yes, but the photos will all be first download all photos in iCloud in the library of new, local Photos on your Mac. iCloud library aims to keep all the libraries of identical to the version in iCloud iCloud and update. Don't switch to another library in the library of the system, when your external drive is offline. each switch will result in massive downloads and uploads, for several days.  And download my not fit on your internal drive.

3. when I go back and fix my MBP on my Drobo, the new photos will end up in the library of photos of Drobo if I designate as a system library again?

4. I can then remove the library of 'travel' from my MBP without deleting anything my iCloud and Drobo.

I recommend to use the new library locally and wait until you get home and have access to your external drive.

Then, use PowerPhotos to merge your new photos in your photo library in the system.  It is a great tool to manage libraries of separate pictures.

You can download a free trial here: Fat Cat Software

Or use the web interface of your iCloud photo library.  You can download directly to your iCloud photo library without launching Photos on your Mac.  Go to www.icloud.com, launch the Photos.app on this web page, then download the new photos.  Then they will be downloaded into your library of Phtoos on Drobo when you connect your player and open your system from Photo library again.

Yes. Find LR catalog file in Edit/settings/general catalogue. Close LR and go to this place. The catalog file is one that ends by .lrcat - move it where you want. Beside the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move, but if you don't not LR will generate new insights. Double-click the .lrcat file in her new home and LR will open with this catalogue. Set preferences in more recent catalogue.

I am looking for external hard drive for my MacBook Pro Mid 2010.

  • Reassign the library on the external hard drive hard drive

I have my iTunes library on an external hard drive. Whenever I have add files to iTunes with the hard drive is connected, it automatically adds them to the library on the hard drive.  When I add files to iTunes unless it's plugged, it adds to a library on my computer.  I bought a new computer that has enough hard drive space for me to get all on my hard drive.  I need to just 'choose' library on my computer via the startup key option choose the method of the library and drag all the files on since the hard drive in my iTunes music folder? Wanted to ask you before you give it whirl and somehow spoil inadvertently (happened!)

You drag the largest of the two libraries on the hard disk, choose that one and then drag media files either to the application window open iTunes or automatically add to iTunes folder.

  • CD transfer to external hard drive with a MacBook Pro

Is it possible to use iTunes as a way to transfer old CDs to an external hard drive. I want to get rid of the real disks and won't use often but don't want to lose the music.

Temporarily place preferences iTunes (Advanced) to point to your external drive for the location of the press folder "iTunes" and then rip the CD into iTunes.  Who's going to put them in your iTunes library, but native files will reside on the external hard drive.  Once completed, change your iTunes preferences back to what it was.  If/when you disconnect the external hard drive, the songs will remain as entries in your library in iTunes, but will be not playable until you reconnect the external hard drive.

  • Media Player 12 losing library when the external hard drive is disconnected.

I have all my music from an external hard drive. If the hard disk is on and I have Windows Media Player 12 to scan the drive, he built the library very well. However, I do like to keep this external hard drive on all the time so I must say Media Player to stop monitoring the disk in order to disconnect and power off. The problem is, the next time I reconnect the drive for music, I open the media player and the library has disappeared. I make sure that the reader always connects with the same drive letter, so it can't be the problem. Is it possible to keep all the information in the library when the hard drive is not connected to the pc. I'm sure that I was able to do this with previous versions of media player.

WMP12 does not store the music files. It stores only the location of the files. If you are using a temporary drive, files disappear when the source goes away. The only solution for this is to put the files on your disk or hard drive connected all the time.

To store your files on your hard drive in a place where the player plays automatically, go to the icon of (i.e.: C:\users\ ) when the folder opens, there is a folder named My Music. It is one of the files that WMP reads.

If you don't have room on your hard drive to store all of the music, you can choose a few favorites or turn the music on your hard drive. You can just leave it to refill whenever you connect the WMP player.

  • IPhoto on the external hard drive will not launch despite the force quit and relaunch several times. Can someone help me?

I have a MacBook from 2008. 4 years ago I moved my iPhoto on an external hard drive. I have thousands if photos on it. IPhoto on the external hard drive will not launch despite the force quit and relaunch several times. Can someone help me?

    < re-titled by host >

I moved my iPhoto on an external hard drive.

Did you move the iPhoto library for the external hard drive or the iPhoto application, or both?

How is formatted the external hard drive? Is the file system on the drive Mac OS extended (journaled) or other system files?  Is the drive directly connected by USB or similar, or is it a SIN?

IPhoto on the external hard drive will not launch despite the force quit and relaunch several times.

I don't understand - if you force quit smoking, launches the application, or you can not force it quit?

IPhoto is suspended without doing anything, when you launch?

What version of iPhoto does? And what version of Mac OS X?

  • IPhoto migration from an external drive: stuck with hard links to the external hard drive

I got my IPhoto library on an external drive. To migrate to pictures, I dragged the IPhoto (on the external hard disk) file to the Photos icon.

Migration went well, but instead of importing data to the external hard drive to my macbook, Photos stored links on the external drive. Now whenever I start the Photos, the system tells me it takes the external drive to view the contents of the library.

To resolve this problem, I tried to copy my IPhoto library on my macbook and redo the import. It does not work: Photos, said the library has been upsized already (I noticed that the IPhoto library has been renamed 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary')

Is it possible to reverse the migration or mark the IPhoto library as not yet migrated? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for your help!

Rename the copy of the iPhoto library on your internal drive to 'iPhoto Library.photolibrary '.  Then drag the library renamed on the Photos icon and pictures will create a new photo library on your internal drive.
