Reassign the library on the external hard drive hard drive

I have my iTunes library on an external hard drive. Whenever I have add files to iTunes with the hard drive is connected, it automatically adds them to the library on the hard drive.  When I add files to iTunes unless it's plugged, it adds to a library on my computer.  I bought a new computer that has enough hard drive space for me to get all on my hard drive.  I need to just 'choose' library on my computer via the startup key option choose the method of the library and drag all the files on since the hard drive in my iTunes music folder? Wanted to ask you before you give it whirl and somehow spoil inadvertently (happened!)

You drag the largest of the two libraries on the hard disk, choose that one and then drag media files either to the application window open iTunes or automatically add to iTunes folder.

I use a PC and I used LR3. I'm a newcomer to LR, so patient with me! My problem is related to the import function.

I have a photo library on an external hard drive. I've slowly been import previews of the photos selected from the library in my catalog, adding them during the import process - well. But now, I hit a problem. Another folder in my library contains several subfolders, each containing a number of photos (a mixture of RAW steals (naves) and jpg). I was importing found in my catalog each Subfile in turn, using the Add function, usually of the jpgs only from each Subfile. It works fine, until I reached a particular Subfile. For some reason when I try to import from it and select the secondary file as a Source, only the RAW (NEF) images appear in the preview pane (sorry, forgot the correct term for it!). I know that jpg files are in this auxiliary file on the external hard drive, because when I view its content in Windows, they are all there. But try as I can (choose the file under source, select the folder parent as a source, try to copy or move them, instead of adding them), nothing seems to work. Since they do not appear in the preview pane, I can't import them. It does appear that this a Subfile where the problem exists, but I don't see anything that is different from the others (names of files under all use the same structure - yyyy-mm-dd_custom name, and pictures in all subfolders are adopting the same denomination structure too - yyyy-mm-dd_sequential number_custom name.) NAVE/JPG. So what I am doing wrong? Any ideas please.

It is possible that the images in this particular subfolder were taken in your camera in RAW + JPEG.  If so, you will need to go to preferences under the general tab and make sure the box "processing JPEG files files next to raw as separate photos" is checked.

However, assuming that this is the case, there is really no reason to import the JPEG file if you already have the RAW file.

  • If Adobe has disabled the ability to use Lightroom 5.7 to see the images in the external hard drive, how one judge the images in the file on the external hard drive without bringing back them to the Lightroom library?

JPEG images being dragged over to Photoshop are veiwable as thumbnails on the external hard drive.  However back to the DNG RAW images are not visible.  Anyway is to visualize images of type external hard disk?  It would be nice to get a glimpse of what you make in Lightroom simply looking on the external hard drive you can with JPEG files.

The library, just click on the import button and navigate to your folder on the EHD. Choose the folder and click Add at the top of the dialog box. You should see thumbnail previews in the import dialog box where you can select what to import.

  • I have a macbook pro with only 128 GB of hard drive. I installed lightroom and all my photos on an external hard drive. Can I keep my library on the external hard drive also lightroom?

I have a macbook pro with only 128 GB of hard drive. I installed lightroom and all my photos on an external hard drive. Can I keep my library on the external hard drive also lightroom?

Yes. Find LR catalog file in Edit/settings/general catalogue. Close LR and go to this place. The catalog file is one that ends by .lrcat - move it where you want. Beside the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move, but if you don't not LR will generate new insights. Double-click the .lrcat file in her new home and LR will open with this catalogue. Set preferences in more recent catalogue.

  • Library exported to external hard drive, error in the attempt to link to files on hard drive

    Hello

I recently started using lightroom and stored the files on the local drive of my macbook pro (current operating system) up to that I ran out of space. Export the catalog a HD external, then deleted the files from the local disk. As I tried to import the .lrcat file for export to the external hard drive and received this error message:

"Cannot import this catalog at this time. The catalog is in use by another copy of Lightroom or has been closed properly. If it was badly closed, please consider getting a health check at the opening. »

I'm not in LR on other computers, so I'm thinking that Lightroom was "closed badly. However I can not know what to do, and technical support will not help me without the serial number which I can't because I'm travelling. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.

    Jordan

If you indeed export the catalog on the external hard drive, you don't need to import it. Just double-click on the copy of the catalog that is located on your external drive.

Furthermore, your serial number is available in the menu help/information system.

  • How to use the book of fonts with fonts that are installed on the external hard drive

I have all my fonts to a folder on an external hard drive. How can I use font book to manage these fonts? I want to keep on the external hard drive, not book fonts move them to my main hard drive. For some reason, font book does not know where are the fonts and as soon as I show, he sets in motion all the fonts on my hard drive in a folder/library/fonts. NOT what I want! I don't want thousands of fonts clutter up my main hard drive. I just can't understand how the font book. Only option, I can see, it is 'Install' and it is then the copy begins. I read and tests all day and I just can't understand this. Thanks for your suggestions.

Font book handles only the fonts that are present in one of the folders of fonts on the startup disk. It can disable these fonts, but it won't work as a custodian of the fonts installed also. I would have suggested using a symbolic link to the folder fonts on the external drive to ~/Library/Fonts, but apparently that no longer works: allow to use symlinks in ~/Library/Fonts

  • Cannot transfer pictures to the external hard drive (refused)

    Hey!

He's worked a lot of years and now when I try to drag the photos on it gives me a stop sign, that white circle with the diagonal line through it. What gives? Any help would be great appreciated! I have a lot of work there.

    Additional information:

-J' have permission to read and write on the jpg photos, but the disk that he said that I can read only, and there is no way to change this, when I click on the little triangle down.

-I can drag photos that already exist ON the disk hard ON my desk, but not vice versa

-All files are jpg files, and they are in a separate folder on my desktop, not from my iphoto library or whatever it is

-J' also tried to delete the "com.apple.recentitems.plist" of the finder, and nothing has changed

-The disc model is a "Slim Seagate laptop drive"

-Here is a photo of the hardrive info:

    Thank you

The external HARD drive is formatted NTFS, which allows you to write on it unless you have a third party app like Paragon or Tuxera.

You had these software installed by Seafgate in the drive, but it is now obsolete and should be updated.

    Ciao.

  • IPhoto on the external hard drive will not launch despite the force quit and relaunch several times. Can someone help me?

I have a MacBook from 2008. 4 years ago I moved my iPhoto on an external hard drive. I have thousands if photos on it. IPhoto on the external hard drive will not launch despite the force quit and relaunch several times. Can someone help me?

    < re-titled by host >

I moved my iPhoto on an external hard drive.

Did you move the iPhoto library for the external hard drive or the iPhoto application, or both?

How is formatted the external hard drive? Is the file system on the drive Mac OS extended (journaled) or other system files?  Is the drive directly connected by USB or similar, or is it a SIN?

IPhoto on the external hard drive will not launch despite the force quit and relaunch several times.

I don't understand - if you force quit smoking, launches the application, or you can not force it quit?

IPhoto is suspended without doing anything, when you launch?

What version of iPhoto does? And what version of Mac OS X?

  • Itunes library from scratch the external HARD disk

Hello, I searched, but most of the questions is related to mobile phones an existing library to an external HARD drive. I have two questions:

1 - What are the steps to create a new itunes library where all the content is on an external HARD drive. In addition, news will be also added and updated to this HARD drive, not for the Mac. I use other computers and media can be added to those on the HARD drive.

2 - I currently have a Macbook pro 2015, but I plan to buy a Mac Mini for my media center. Time, because I want to update content still on the HARD drive, it will be easier start the process again on the Mac mini, or using the existing library of move then?

Thanks a lot for any help

    1. Press on and hold down the Option key while you click on the icon to launch iTunes. Keep now until asked to choose or create a library. Click on create. I would recommend that you make the library in the root of your chosen drive and call the iTunes folder.
See also Open a different iTunes library file or create a new Apple Support one-
    2. You can connect this external hard drive to the Mac mini and the Option-start-iTunes to connect, or to copy the iTunes folder that is all about the internal drive (assuming that there is place) and connect here if you prefer. Restarting loses ratings, play count indictment, playlist membership, date added, etc. and can mean the loss of data if you have devices that synchronize normally to your library. Avoid it if you can.

See make a library of portable split to the bottom on the manipulations of the library if you want to keep the data of your current library after all.

  • IPhoto migration from an external drive: stuck with hard links to the external hard drive

I got my IPhoto library on an external drive. To migrate to pictures, I dragged the IPhoto (on the external hard disk) file to the Photos icon.

Migration went well, but instead of importing data to the external hard drive to my macbook, Photos stored links on the external drive. Now whenever I start the Photos, the system tells me it takes the external drive to view the contents of the library.

To resolve this problem, I tried to copy my IPhoto library on my macbook and redo the import. It does not work: Photos, said the library has been upsized already (I noticed that the IPhoto library has been renamed 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary')

Is it possible to reverse the migration or mark the IPhoto library as not yet migrated? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for your help!

Rename the copy of the iPhoto library on your internal drive to 'iPhoto Library.photolibrary '.  Then drag the library renamed on the Photos icon and pictures will create a new photo library on your internal drive.

  • Lightroom 5, letter from the external HARD disk drive

I use LR 5 and store my images on an external drive 'f' raw Once I inserted an SD card on my PC from Win10, and he received the letter F on the SD drive. Later, when I connected my external drive where I store my raw, the PC files it G. Since then, I am unable to get LR5 to locate photos. I went into disk, reassigned management to F the drive letter for the drive external hard, then back to G since LR5 thought he was now drive G. other than the location manually each individual records, seems to have no other choice. Any help would be appreciated

The simplest solution is to use disk management to reassign the external drive the desired letter.

My recommendation is to choose a letter 'J' so that readers SD or other do not continue to change the letter on you.

After that you have the letter assigned, go to Lightroom file Board.

If the folder hierarchy does not appear as it does explore, right click on a folder and select 'Show the parent'. Repeat if necessary.

Then 'move' the first folder on the drive with the new letter. Everything under this first file will be automatically updated.

  • When I deleted a picture of my MacBook, why it also remove the external hard drive?

So I tried to help my wife to free up space on his MacBook Pro by putting all of his photos on an external hard drive. After iPhoto slide the hard disk and wait 40 minutes so that he could transfer, I wanted to make sure it worked. I ejected the disk and then plugged in. Of course, all iphotos were still there. Just to be sure, I deleted one file in the folder on the computer's iphoto. I went to my shock and horror, the external hard drive, that it has been deleted it too! How is that possible? I've been scouring the Internet trying to retrieve this file with no luck. It was not in the trash. There is a tab "recently deleted". Time machine was not turned on. iCloud shows nothing. I can't download any software, because the computer is completely filled. How is it possible that by deleting this folder on the computer he did also leave the hard drive? AND it has not been saved in the trash? I have used PC, and whenever I need something in return, he was ALWAYS in the trash. And if I deleted something on the computer with an external hard drive connected, it would NEVER be removed from the external hard drive at the same time. I'm so frustrated and feeling SO bad that I deleted a folder with important pictures of our kids. Is that what I can do to recover the pictures? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You used Time Machine at all? I see you say it was not on, but it never on and is at - it a backup Time Machine on the Macbook Pro?
