System makes rattling then disables the active window

I installed Windows 7 on a Dell XPS 420 a year ago.  Since the installation, every 2 minutes or so, the system will make a rattling noise and active window, I work with will be disabled.  It doesn't matter if I work in Word, on the Web or e-mail.  Everything I type or working on stops immediately (sometimes making me lose 2-3 lines of typo) and I have to go to the mouse and click once to reactivate the window.  Extremely frustrating.  I closed all background programs, run a clean boot and run spyware or malicious controls, and nothing has worked so far.  Any suggestions?

HI RAWolfe,

Everything first, go to Dell and look for any driver or other updates matching your system (use the serial number, but do not forget to change the operating system if you changed it when he sold to the current).  Update for those who are not topical - particularly that relating to the graphics cards and monitors - but really compare them all what you have now in Manager devices, and update that can be updated and are applicable.  See what follows to learn more about this, but here, let's assume that you are looking for not only those with problems, but who are not the latest available:

Go to the Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get pilots to leave the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.  You can also try the Driver Verifier Manager to see if you can identify the driver or the responsible device (assuming that it is the cause): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244617.

Then, go to Control Panel / Power Options and make sure that your settings are not set to close things to the low "in 2 minutes.  Try to set reasonable limits to just to be sure.

Rattling noises often mean a hardware problem and often mean the hard drive.

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type SFC/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  Try to put all the corrupt files here so that we can see if they can be repaired with good copies of the installation disc (unless there are too many).

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  They tried to set itself to run at the next reboot.   Answer Yes and restart to run the program.  It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.

We will test your hard disk and RAM for hardware problems:

To test your hard drive, try HD diagnosis (http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html) or this test: hard drive diagnostics tools and utilities (storage) - Corp of TACKtech (http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287).  If it fails the test, replace it.  If she passes the test, then it's probably nothing wrong with it.

You can also test your RAM to http://www.memtest.org/.  Here are the additional instructions that can help: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html.  If it fails, test each piece individually to find those who are bad and replace.  If it passes, the RAM is probably OK.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • The mouse only works in the active window and cannot select drop-down menus (W7)

    Hello

    I can't understand what is the cause. I can only select things in the active window with my mouse, I can't move the window, I can't click on anything whatsoever outside of it.

    ATM by writing this, I can not open another program or select the bar of tasks or do anything outside that window. (unless I use CTRL-ALT-DEL and force to select a new active window with my keyboard)

    Another thing is that everything works within the window, except one thing, menus drop down, I can bring up the menu drop-down but can not select anything on the menu.

    I reinstalled windows to do this same thing. I can't understand why windows doesn't let me choose some things outside my main window, it's that I'm sort of protected mode.

    Thanks for any help

    -What is laptop or desktop?
    -What is the brand and model of the mouse? Is it wired or wireless mouse?
    -Have you tried plugging the mouse on another computer?

    Method 1: I would also say you update the drivers for the mouse on the computer and check if it helps.
    Updated a hardware driver that is not working properly

    Method 2: Also, I suggest you use Microsoft Safety scanner to make sure that your computer is free from malware and check if it helps.

    Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. The Microsoft Safety Scanner is not a replacement for the use of antivirus software that offers continuous protection. For a real-time protection that helps you keep your home or small office PC against viruses, spyware and other malicious software, download Microsoft Security Essentials.
    Method 3: I suggest you try to check with the other mice to make sure that the problem is not with the computer.

    If it is a laptop, I suggest you to check if a FN key function is to to do this. As you are facing the issue after reinstalling the operating system, I also suggest you check with the manufacturer of the computer, if there is this key.

    So, I found that I needed to do things, like adding groups and what not.

    "

    To connect to a remote computer with Remote Desktop [DRC], you need a user name that is a member of the Remote Desktop Users group on the remote computer, IE. PC - A, for example, or a user name which is administrator on PC - A. The user ID is local to PC - A. The user ID must have a password. On PC - A simply type the name of the standard user in the window enter the names of the objects to select . Click check names to verify that this is a valid username on PC - A.

    Now, when you open the connection of the DRC on the remote computer PC - B use the local LAN IP or the NetBIOS name of PC - A and previously set up PC - A user name and password to connect. If your call over the public internet from a remote location using the public IP of PC - A or PC - A is behind a router, the public IP address of the router. In the latter case, you will need to also to the front/open TCP Port 3389 through the router to the IP LAN of the PC - A static method.

  • How can I change the color of the background of the active window in Windows 8 (and the text format/color window)?

    In all versions of windows, we could change the color of the active windows (not just the border, but the color of real background in windows as well as the font type and color).  How can I do this in Windows 8?  The option does not appear in the Customization screen.

    Found the fix. Right-click on the desktop and choose "Customize".  Under my themes, choose the high contrast theme (select all). Once this is done, under the themes is a box that will say 'color' "high contrast". Go in there, and you can now customize Windows background, text, hyperlinks, text disabled, Selected text, window pane, Inactive window tile and button. AKA, I have no need to watch a white background in my active windows, which is nice!

  • Disabling the active tab

    Hello world
    I have a small requirement. I have a tabbed pane that has 6 tabs.
    The requirement is I have to disable the hyperlink in the active tab and make the text on the tab for "BOLD", so that users will be informed which tab is active and will not be able to reload the same tab.
    I use Jdeveloper 11.1.2.3.0.

    Best regards
    bnkr

    Hello

    Why would you disable the active tab for the Visual effect? Page would not be refreshed when the user clicks a tab already disclosed. If you want this, you can write a disclosureListener for all the showDetailItem and do something like

        public void tabDisclosed(DisclosureEvent disclosureEvent) {
            if(disclosureEvent.isExpanded())
                    ((RichShowDetailItem)disclosureEvent.getComponent()).setDisabled(true);
            else
                ((RichShowDetailItem)disclosureEvent.getComponent()).setDisabled(false);

        }

    Instead, you can use the count to set a different background color for the active tab.

And when I take a tab to move around, the ghost shows the full image, but it disappears again when I release the tab.

  • Firefox is no longer new window when I drag the contents of the active window outside the browser.

    After just upgrading to Firefox 9 of Firefox 3.6, I noticed that a certain element is missing. In the old version, I could drag the contents of the tab out of the browser or the active window and it would automatically force this content in its own window again. I found this feature extremely useful, and I can do it no longer. That's happened? There just is no longer supported or is this a bug? If it is not supported, how can I reopen the current window/tab in a window again like before?

    It works if you drag the tab slightly downwards in the browser window?
