System Restore didn't complete-no specified error

I did a system restore but it says that my system restore did not complete due to an unspecified error.  I Redid the catering to a different date, as suggested in the troubleshooting with the same result.  My Kapersky is off so it's not the problem.  It's never happened before.  I have Vista.  Any ideas what to do?

Hello Rayndropss,

Often we see error messages like the result of a program from loading at startup.

To solve these, we use the clean boot troubleshooting.

The following article describes this process:

  • System Restore change my backup settings 0x810000ED error Code

I was not able to make windows backup error (C) said 0x810000ED said invaled way for some files

    Hi SandraPrice/Newman,

    ·         Why did you try System Restore?

    ·         Do you have the means to say that the backup does not work after restoring the system?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Follow the steps to perform the check disk (chkdsk).

    (a) click Start, type cmd in the start search box, right-click on cmd in the list programs, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

    (b) at the command prompt, type Chkdsk/r, and press ENTER.

    (c) press y when you are prompted to check the drive the next time the system restarts.

    (d) close all applications and restart the computer.

Note: If bad sectors are found in the hard drive, then it could try to fix this particular sector. If you have any data on that, it can get lost.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Method 3: Check the status of dependent services backup. Follow these steps:

    (a) click Start, type services.msc and press to enter.

    (b) double-click Backup Windows and Volume shadow copy services.

    (c) make sure that the startup type is automatic and the services are started.

    (d) apply the settings.

  • System Restore error ox800705aa

I tried to do a system restore and got the message "unspecifed error has occurred during the restoration of the system (ox800705aa).

    Hi jloller,

To work around the error code, please follow these steps.

    1. close all applications that are not necessary to perform the backup.

    2. ensure that you have sufficient disk space on all the drives where system restore is enabled

    3. turn off any antivirus/firewalls installed on the computer. Very well, they can interfere with the backup process. If antivirus software is being used, close to its icon on the tray (a small icon next to the time). Close it by double-clicking on the icon and selecting Disable. Refer to the documentation for the anti-virus software for more information on how to disable it.

    4. perform the clean boot in order to avoid all possible scenarios of a third-party service interferes with the backup process. Once the system is in a clean boot state, run the system restore.

Reference: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    Notes:

¯ Run the computer without antivirus software or firewall is a potential threat to the computer; don't forget to activate the security software after completing the troubleshooting steps and after you have identified the problem.

¯ Ensure that you switch your computer to normal startup mode after completing the troubleshooting steps. Steps are available in the above article.

If you are unable to run these is normal mode, then try safe mode by pressing the F8 key for the system to start.
