    Hi Robrw,

    1. when exactly you receive this error?

    2. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

You can try to rename the catroot2 folder and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

    a. Click Start and in run type C:\windows\system32 and click ok

    b. find the Catroot2 folder. Right-click on Catroot2 and rename it to Catroot2.old

If you are not able to do the normal mode, try to start in safe mode and rename

Check out the link for more information on starting your computer in SafeMode below:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Step 2:

If you are unable to access the catroot2 folder, and then try to change the permissions on the files and check if it helps.

    See the following article:

How to capture a file or a folder in Windows XP

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/308421

    Step 3:

You can also try to temporarily disable third-party security software and firewalls and check what is happening.

Note: Activate the security software after the resolution of the problem.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Files could not be copied into a WD My Passport External Drive because of an error 0x8007045D i/o device

I tried to copy files from my hard drive into an external Western Digital My Passport drive. But, as I was watching the progress of the copy of the files, I noticed that only four files have been copied to the external. A large majority of the files could not be saved due to an error 0x8007045D i/o device. I noticed it's the same error I get when I shut down my computer (in this case it is said error of breakpoint or something). Drag / drop files did not work. Still later, my USB key no longer works.  I tried to check my hard disk for errors, but my camera came out clear.

I use Windows 7 Professional 32 - bit, E5800 Pentium Dual Core and an Asus motherboard.

How can I get rid of this error because I need to transfer my files specifically in the external hard drive?

Help, please. I'm not very tech savvy so simple instructions the better.

    Hi @roryheadmav!

You can try the basic steps in such cases troubleshooting - first try to connect the hard drive to an another USB port of the computer and if possible with another USB cable.

I hope that you will be able to transfer all the data you have, but in case it does not work, you can also boot into safe mode and try to copy the same and see if you can successfully complete the copy error-free operation. You can follow this article that describes how to enter Safe Mode.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Hope this helps and let me know how it went.

    Hello

Sorry for the late post. I don't try to back up or restore. I just want to create a restore point.

Netherless, I followed the advice on this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasecurity/thread/37160397-349e-4aa2-992e-1ffe58b5e51e and renamed the SR file in %windir%\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\SystemRestore to SR.sav and can create restore points successfully. So I create a restore point, a new SR file is created adjacent to the old (SR.sav)

However, is it to let the SR.sav file remains in the folder or just delete it? Is it possible that renaming some files to offset it later?

    Please kindly answer. Thank you

  • Shadow Copy Provider cannot create system restore point error Ox8004230F?

When I try to create a system restore on my Vista operating system, you get the above error message.
I have entered what has been suggested in the forums and Services.
    What should I do now?
    Thanks for you help.

When researching other forums via Google, I found this in 'My Digital Life '.  It solved my problem so I post here to help people who may have tried all the "fix - its" that did not work!

"The error occurs because the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service is stopped or disabled. The Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service manages shadow copies of volume based on software taken by the Volume Shadow Copy service. If this service is stopped, shadow copies of volume based on software cannot be managed. If this service is disabled, as when you manually disable the snapshot, all services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. "

The Shadow Copy Provider MS and the shadow copy of Volume must be enabled.  With my problem I'm not far enough to allow the Shadow Copy Provider MS.  When I did, it has allowed me to create a restore point.

    Thank you.

After reviewing the matter, it seems to be down to the fact that a CD-ROM (a custom Windows 2000 Setup CD) was left in the DVD drive of the machine. This CD-ROM has been used successfully to create multiple virtual machines.

If the CD-ROM is removed, the question goes, but of course, this isn't exactly a permanent solution...

I've searched the forums and the internet and this issue seems to happen on different platforms. However, all the messages that I can find on the subject with ESX have never been fulfilled!

Can anyone shed light on what could cause this, as I have no idea!

    Hello

You have discovered what causes the problem. Leaving CD-ROM in the disc drive.

Unfortunately there is no solution for ESX v3 except to remove the disc from the tray of the cdrom. There is a reason, that I only use ISO images. Never have this problem.

  • System Restore (with backup) for Windows XP how to restore the files from here?

I saw the other posts for this but they have not answered the question. When I look in the C drive, and open the folder backup (backup C:\My--01/12/23 1134 AM), my photos, videos and documents are not available or are invisisble. When I tried to make hidden files visible, all my desktop icons and all the Start Menu program buttons disappear. I can see the files when I search with a software such as jdiskreport - 1.4.0, but I'm unable to move with this program. When I tried to move them with jdisk... they is locked in the tree of files of jdiskreport. Whenever these trees of missing or file icons has locked, I had to restore to the good previous restore point. In my view, the full restoration of the system (with backup) fails and should be avoided at all costs.

So, if someone knows a way to access these files, I would appreciate the help of course. And please, no answers don't like "cannot not you just copy and paste?" because it is not currently a solution until the files are visible without erasing my desktop and the Start Menu.
