System Restore is cut by an inproper shutdown

Hello

I'm working on a several years computer Hp desktop that restarts several times. I stopped this by selecting the option do not restart after an error and so the next time got the blue screen with a useful error. "X NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS". I have read through the KB and found solutions for this and after their application, I still have the same problems to restart.

Then I got tired of uninstalling recent program changes, I had made and found that Windows Installer was corrupted or something and wouldn't be doing its job. I returned the KB, found a manual resolution for that by taking on the old version and install a current version of the installer. This solves this problem even if I can not really uninstall anything, because the machine want to stay connected long enough to do anything at the end.

I decided that I needed to just disable installs it of recent programs and see if that would get me the time I needed to do other tasks of repair thinking that I could just clean up any mess, I did later. This had no effect.

I closed all operations not MS in msconfig, in the hope that some rogue or corrupt driver was causing this issue. No change.

After all this and other more simple things, I decided to go to system restore and see if that withdrew out me of this mess.  Well, System Restore no longer works. When I try to run it, it gets most, if not throughout the bar of progression, but then restarted it is said that the restoration has not completed and no changes. Once or twice in the process, I got an error message that says something like "the restore process has failed due to an abnormal termination. I'm completely lost on trying to figure out why Windows does this and how to fix.

Throughout this process, I was sure that there should be some kind of virus trying to make me kill myself but I ran several deep scans, including one that took 15 hours and the only results of what is a file that was suspicious. It was cleaned easily and the results of this change were not noticeable.

In any case, it's here where I am. Windows restarts constantly, I can't uninstall programs to try and recover, System Restore will not work.

I'm about to reinstall windows, but the owner of this computer doesn't have the original install CD to work from and I have CD in Media Center. I don't know if the reinstallation of the operating system is the right answer here, but I'm at the end of my knowledge. If reinstall is the answer, where can I get the disks home install XP? The box has authentic key codes to this topic so Im not worried on this subject. I just need to do this thing on my bench if possible.

Thanks for any help.

I thank very you much for your quick and relevant response.

Unfortunately, I was not able to make progress on this question using the methods you suggested but they help me to discover other new information that could help you to help me. Here are the results for each of your suggestions.

Method 1

I had already done a lot of things mentioned but verified that system restore is running and followed appropriate players.

Some of the additional information that has been mentioned in the article gave the following results:

ERRORS in the LOG of EVENTS (from the last few days I've been working on that. Each of them was present several times.)

"DCOM got error"the service cannot be started in safe mode"attempting to start the service EventSystem with arguments" to start the server. {1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}

The computer was restarted after a bug check. The bugcheck was: 0 x 00000035 (0x860d9530, 0 x 00000000, 0 x 00000000, 0 x 0000000)

On the latter, I couldn't find anything related to this in my own research and so I propose it as the file that was deleted in the previously mentioned scan of the system from viruses etc.

Method 2

As before, I read the article around and done all the things that he suggested. Here are the results.

sfc / scannow

sfc / scanboot

Thanks again for your help. I sincerely hope that the additional information provided here will will be useful for you and create no more hurt.

  • Equium L10-142: no sound after system restore

Hi there I got a Toshiba Equium laptop since May / June ' 05 (the model on the bottom is EL10-142, so I guess that its a L10?) Never had a problem with it until it completely crashed at Christmas. A friend who is a computer enthusiast has got completely restored back to factory settings by using his Toshiba A60 Back Up Disk (the software provided with it is not found) and downloading the drivers from the Web from Toshiba site.

Now, he works very well except one thing. There is no sound.

I tried all suggestions from the Microsoft Assistant help regarding no sound, ensuring that the FN Esc key had not accidentally pressed, the Volume Module in the control panel was all upturned and not cut, ANY - but to no avail.

There are a few drivers who must always be installed (did not really a clue where to get them going on the site of Toshiba does not give me and his work and do everything I need OK so Im not bothered) so I though maybe that was the problem, but oddly when I went into the thing of drivers Diagnostics He said that the Realtek AC97 driver has been installed and working properly.

    Help!

I don't see what there is to do to fix this and it was definatley caused by thte system restore, as his was not a problem before the great crash.

Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    E.

Wait a minute; you said that your friend used the recovery CD Toshiba for the A60 Equium L10on!
I m not surprised that noise does not appear. You cannot use a form of another laptop recovery CD!

If you haven t the recovery CD right you need to order or you will install the operating system from the Microsoft Windows CD and then you download the drivers from the Toshiba driver page:

  • System Restore op after failure of HARD drive and replacement

    Hello

I have an old laptop dv9000 with XPPro factory installed SP2, since upgraded to SP3. The hard drive failed (Seagate 80Gig). I checked with the test of the bios Setup, he said "fail" and I checked by booting from the windows installation disc CD player. He said, not found hard drive. SO, I bought a disc bytes of more 1 t (same mfr Seagate, same 5400 RPM) and installed. I have a backup network (Seagate Black armor) drive and I was able to restore the last backup. The booted cd drive the recovery disc for this program, the hard drive light blinking and it seemed to be something for 3 hours, then told it was full.

But the new drive does not start. I've read on this forum and of the joint recommendation was to use the system provided with the laptop recovery disks. I dug through the boxes in the garage and have found the system recovery discs and my 14 cd makes system restore. :-) makes to keep unwanted sometimes. But I tried the system recovery disk and it will not start in the cd player. I get a white screen with the cursor in the left flashing top. I went back to try the recovery of Seagate disk, and now it will not start either. I tried to remove the new HARD drive. with or without a cd in the player it displays the message "No Op sysytem found." SO I think that something touched the CDdrive. But it is interesting with the blinking cursor will restart the machine, then perhaps a part of the op system is loaded.

It is an old machine, the old system of the op. I shopped Hp store and only Windows8 available now. SO I am forced either on the cutting edge with all new bugs and learning curve, or I'm trying to get this old lady will machine. Other things I've linked, hard reset, restore the default bios.

Ideas that you may have will be appreciated.

    Hello

The laptop is back running with the new hard drive, Yay! and a new cd player.

Here's what he had to, for anyone who has ever has the same problem:

The CD player was bad. The nearest local supplier on the list for assistance parts hp gave me was a suitable replacement. I installed, and the system restore disc started and ran immediately.  I decided to check and see if the windows install disc would go and restore the sytem since I thought that I had already restored the entire C: partition. He started, but did not find the hard drive. He gave an eror message that does no drive found.  I went to the hp system restore disc and running. It took several hours reformatted the drive (by removing everything I'd put) and rebooted several times. Eventually, he came with a windows desktop computer. This is the factory installed there are over 5 years old. I installed the Seagate backup software and running. He seemed to have more options running in windows he did directly from the boot cd. One of the options was to restore the MBR. I had to find out what it was, Master Boot Record. I thought that it should be restored. The full restoration of the backup process C: took another few hours, but he finished and gave a message of the operation successfully.

Then I rebooted and got windows, connected and got my office logon screen as it was at the time of the backup. Success.

In the future, I'll watch that restore MBR, maybe it's there, and I missed it the first time. I have a slight nagging worry that maybe something else caused both drives to fail almost at the same time. But I'm not going to fuss with it. I hope that the machine works well for a little longer.

Thanks to those who have tried to help.

    Later,.

  • My sound keeps inhibition by itself! Have you tried System Restore, but still was no use, guard passing! I have Windows XP.

For no reason I known, my speaker in the toolbar at the bottom right keeps silent! I tried the system restore, but it happens again... more frequently! Help!

    Hello

Check if you have a sticky on the keypad mute button.

The sound will actually mode 'secret' or is it just cut out. You can tell if you have the sound icon in your system tray, you can see the red circle with a line through when her mute.

If it's cut: the function of it cutting may be a physical problem. The system may not have enough juice to power the sound. Try playing the sound on a low volume. My other guess would be to update drivers and test.

If the problem persists, reinstall the sound card drivers and check if that helps.

  • How to limit the amount of space drive that system restore uses

original title: how to cut system restore in two points

my hard drive is almost full.and I'm cutting the system restore in half of all aid

    Thank you ken

You can remove all restore points by turning off the system.  but then I'll make a new restore point for today.

Open Control Panel systems and on the System Restore tab, you can make adjustments to the functionality.

is incidentally, deletion of restore points can be counterproductive because they really do take up that much space, and you might not have as a safety net restore points to restore your system.

really, you should consider adding a second hard drive to your system because programs and Web pages are only more complex and bigger in size.  If you will not be able to escape the possible low disk space problem.

either way, microsoft provides 25 GB of free space on this skydrive site, where you can download and store your personal files.

I suppose it does not really matter, but what problem have you requiring you to use the system restore or if you are just practical (it should still work).

What is your system brand and model?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..
Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.
For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
Depending on what you use for malware protection, you will maybe disable the product temporarily, make the system restore and then turn on the product.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.
System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.
That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).
Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.
Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.
No matter what you use for protection against malware, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
It can be uninstalled later if you wish.

    Hello

This problem could occur if the system restore was not completed successfully.

If the computer is blocked at the start screen, I suggest you to restart the computer and see if you can start the computer normally.

If this isn't the case, I suggest you to perform auto repair from WinRE. Check if it helps.

To run auto repair on follow computer Windows 8 as follows:

    (a) to Insert the media (USB or DVD) and restart the computer.

    (b) key press F12 (usually it's F12, but it may differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media in.

    (c) once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:

    (d) click Next , and then select fix your computer.

    (e) you will see a blue screen and a option to choose.

    (f) select the Troubleshooting option and select Advanced options.

    (g) you can choose automatic repair in Advanced startup . option

Hmm, when you are in the dialog box (Ctrl + Shift + b) library, you have the menu "import and backup"? Restoration is expected to be in this menu.

I have no idea, I suggest you to ask what you actually do on a forum of Ubuntu Linux. My guess is that you have completely replaced the files with the 'old', so the data are missing. Please help I just did a system restore and after it restored all my 50 or so bookmarks gone how do their back thanks to all in advance

It is possible that the obtained profiles.ini restored an earlier version and you have switched to another profile or new profile has been created.
If you had reset Firefox after the date of this restore then point it probably happened.

    See:

  • I need to recover the Favorites after a Windows system restore.

After doing a restore of windows on Windows 7 Pro, I have only the default bookmarks on my view your bookmarks"" button. In a backup of the system a few months ago, I got the files and folder Appdata Firefox Profiles. I tried to replace the new profiles of 'empty' to the former, but without success - I still have only the default bookmarks. Thanks in advance for your help.

Note what to do a system restore will probably replace the profiles.ini file and all the profiles that are made after the date of restoration will not appear or be accessible through the Profile Manager.

If profiles are still there, then you can use the Profile Manager to create a new profile and choose the location of an existing profile (choose a folder) of re - save profile.
