T61 HDD no operating system validates

I work at a major University (Paris is) and got a professional T61 6466 - 5DG. It was untouched since November 2007 because I was very happy with my T42 unfortunately struck by lightning through the telephone network. The T61 has been implemented under XP Lenovo in September 2010. I had 2 or 3 times a month a blue screen with something like "attempt to write to the memory. Victory to protect your system has stopped... Reboot... "and I did not like (I tried to build a personal network). "I received last week after the start of"HARD disk not initialized", I restarted and still last Friday the same on a blue screen dark after the Lenovo logo page, but it was the end: the T61 starts an Intel startup routine and said: valid no operating system on the HARD drive. The HARD drive is a Seagate Momentus ST9120822AS 5400-3 (ASM P/N 42 T 1306 and 42 T 1307 FRU). Connected trough is a USB adapter is only seen under XP in Device Manager and is "not initialized". A recovery tool to rebuild the file system (and I could copy the my important Documents) but lacked the FAT32 partition hidden (seen by the same tool on the drive HARD internal to an another T61 6466 - 5DG of a colleague). HARD drive through the Seagate Seatools long generic test and I am more than puzzled. Of course, I did not burn the DVD from the hidden partition: with a new labtop...

We got in my T61 University many of the same brand and I checked 4: it's the same HDD Seagate and I found on the Web talks of early failures of Seagate Barracuda AND Momentus HDD. His colleagues are not afraid (IBM/Lenovo has been chosen on my suggestion for its reliability: I got the family 380 without any problem). Can you help me?

Apparently there was a big bug in the software of these hard drives: Seagate explained they just sell the discs as OEM and software disk has been mounted by Lenovo. On the Lenovo support site, there is a software update for the discs. If it can help someone...

  • XP pro will not validate: upgrade Windows 7 tells me that I need a valid operating system to install

Can anyone shed a light on my dilemma please?

I have a legitimate Windows XP pro (OEM version), purchased copy in good faith of Amazon.co.uk in March 2005. Everything I've done is update the motherboard on several occasions. The drive never left my possession, but which would have been, I activated XP pro 20 times! This time around (Christmas) I've updated the motherboard once more and now I was rejected validation by Microsoft.

Yesterday (December 28), I received a phone call from Microsoft (possibly in India) informing me that they refuse to validate due to the fact that I broke the rules of my license.

I was told that I GOT to upgrade to Windows 7!

Reluctantly, it seems, I have no choice I'm not familiar with any other operating system.

The only problem is now, it seems that I am not authorized to upgrade to Windows 7, I have not an operating system valid in order to allow the upgrade to run?

Is this really the case? I buy the complete package as opposed to the upgrade?

    Can anyone help please?

    Dave :-(

Probably motherboard changes have invalidated your xp license. An OEM license is not transferable to a new motherboard.  (a new motherboard is considered a new computer)

You need a full commercial license in your situation. An upgrade license requires an activated license of qualification.
  • Install old HDD to the pc with the new HARD drive and operating system different?

Hi, I recently ripped my old laptop that no longer works, after buying a newer laptop 4 years ago. The new laptop has Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed while the old machine had Windows Vista installed. I want to put the old HDD in my new machine to extract some files that I want to keep and possibly use this particular drive as a disc of extra storage without having to turn it into a portable device. Would that work or would I meet problems with him? It would be just a plug & play this sort of thing (as the old HDD already has an operating system installed) or the old drive (vista) would cause the new drive (win7) fails at startup?

And sorry if this has already been covered. I searched through the questions asked previously and has not really found a similar job.

You can use your old drive, but you should check that the "Boot order" is the most recent Player listed before the old drive. If need be exit and save your BIOS boot becomes.

    Next

After you have started since the new drive, you may need to take ownership of the files you need to copy.

To take ownership of a file or folder

    1. open Windows Explorer and locate the file or folder you want to take charge.
    2. right click on the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
    3. click on advanced and then click the owner tab.
    4. click on edit and then do one of the following:
To change the owner to a user or group that is not listed, click other users and groups and enter the object name to select (examples), type the name of the user or group and then click OK.

To change the owner to a user or a group is listed in the change owner to box, click the new owner.

    5. (optional) to change the owner of all subcontainers / folders and objects in the tree view, select the Replace owner of subcontainers and objects check box.

Then use 'Disk management' to delete all existing partitions and reformat the old drive.

  • How to download an operating system on a new HDD without having to pay for the nine

    Hello

I have an acer aspire 5536, which broke out last week. Blue screen of death and then black screen saying no operating system, impossible to access safe mode. I took it to a store and they tested and said that the hard drive was not working.

So I bought a new hard drive but I don't have a disk recovery or for operating system drives. How can I reinstall windows vista or I have to buy a new operating system such as windows 7?

    Thank you

    Suzanne

I tried before link and it does not recognize my serial number, so I called the number for acer uk and they said it would be 51 books. Is anyway to get it cheaper?

    Hello

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key determines which Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

  • Satellite M505-9490 - operating system unbootable

So this morning, I rebooted my computer to find it wouldn't boot beyond the Toshiba screen. After that, it becomes black and cannot be persuaded to do anything.
I tried to start in safe mode, but the same thing happens. I can't assume the OS files somehow has been entirely corrupted or the HD is shot.

Part of the confusion is that she worked a-okay and then suddenly, nothing.
Any way to deal with other than reformatting?

    Hello

You can enter the BIOS settings (set by default)?
    Disk recognized and listed correctly?
When you start F12 at startup HARD drive is listed as peripheral start?

What operating system do you use?
If you cannot boot OS in safe mode there must be a serious problem. On this path, it is not easy to say what is happening exactly but maybe you should try to launch the installation of recovery to see if there is full access to the HARD drive. If this does not work, I assume that HDD is troublemaker.

Try to get the new HARD drive for testing purposes.

  • Satellite A80 135 impossible to reinstall the operating system using the recovery disk

    Hello

Ive got a laptop 2005 Satellite a80-135 that worked very well until I tried to format the HDD after a performance of Ram boost operation (kingston 1 gb Ram module).

    Just after that, the computer started showing software problems and finally crashed;
So I decided to reinstall the entire operating system yet. and here, I found the problem I really hope you can help me

The thing is that I can't format my hard drive to my cd player (with recovery CD in) when the machine is restarted.
In theory, start the Panel menu should appear after the computer reboot with the C key simountaneously key but nothing happens.

    Thanks in advance
    concerning
    jozze

    Hello

Simply, the C button the STRANGE start.
You can also try to press F12 after the laptop has been powered.
Then the start menu should appear on the screen and then you could choose the ODD (optical disc) in order to boot from the CD.

If this is not possible, the question is perhaps related to WEIRD malfunction or recovery disk.
Maybe the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disc properly and so the laptop can not boot from the disc.
You can try to copy the recovery CD using another computer and might try to start using the copied CD.
If it does not the problem might be related to the WEIRD failure.

  • Cannot start the disk operating system external hard

Hi I just bought a macbook air 13 mid-2013, and has decided to clone the hard disk of my old white macbook mid-2006 for an external hard drive, I cloned it perfectly with superduper!, the problem is when I try to start the external hard drive in the macbook air, it comes to show me the white apple logo and stay there and do nothing , I tried everything, safeboot, run disk utility, reset pram, but nothing works, finally decided to start in the old white macbook and it starts perfectly, also tried in the macbook pro 13 of the of my brother and it starts perfectly too, just to clarify, my macbook air have yosemite 10.10.5 os and my old white macbook and cloned hdd have os 10.6.8 my brother macbook pro os 10.7 , I don't know what to do, thinking the cloned hdd os is too old for the macbook air, but do not know I hope you can help me, thanks!

    R.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is too old to start your MacBook Air. Outside the upgrade the operating system installed, or conversion to Mac OS X Server and running it inside a product such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop, you can not.

  • P850 satellite destroyed by the Windows operating system

    Hello.

I own a Toshiba Satellite laptop model: P850 part number: PSPKFV-00H002AR bought the United Arab Emirates.
OS: Windows 8 x 64 pre installed/installed at the factory.

It doesn't have the capabilities of the 3D display.
There can be no Blu ray.
    It has the fingerprint reader.

Since I started using it I have big problems with the operating system, drivers and utilities Toshiba.
    * I'll post the PROBLEMS the MOST IMPORTANT I have so that I can get help easier.*

Initially, the laptop felt good, utility worked as they should. the only thing that was not at any time was the ECO button, but not a big problem. * Accelerator of Toshiba HDD has been working flawlessly.*

The first thing I did when I started using my laptop has become familiar with the operating system and of course to create a secondary partition for my stuff (files and so on)

    I used a * free * 3rd party software called:
    * Mini partition Wizard tool * which turned out to be very good.
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/PartitionManager/Windows-8-partition-manager.html
(no not advertising, it's a free and very useful program)

Before performing any operation, I made a thorough search for the operation of the recovery and windows partitions 8 so that I don't accidentally makes them useless.

    * The first thing I did was record to create 3 DVD using "Toshiba Recovery Media Creator."

    * Then using the above mentioned software (partition Wizard) I created a second score by taking the amount of space between the Rugged C
    * During the creation of a second partition (called D) I _DID friezer move, resize, format or fusion of the partitions.* system and recovery plant

Then I continued using the computer for things I usually do. I've updated some drivers, windows installed and computer updates worked well.

    * Then Microsoft has officially released windows 8.1 * so I decided to give it a try. I have read the manual about installing "* updated Windows 8.1 *" Toshiba driver download page. Windows 8 updates installed, then went to store * downloaded windows 8.1* and waited the installation.
Then I continued to update my drivers as it said in the manual.

    * When working with partitions on my drive and before installing windows 8.1 I Formaldeide disk of windows and Partition Assistant Manager screenshots_ *.

    * After the installation of Windows 8.1, I immediately noticed that the installation has created a partition_ of recovery (also known as Windows RE) _the with the 350 MB_ _size *.
I of course took screenshots of windows disk manager and mini partition Wizard tool.

I'll upload the screenshots as soon as I can please stay tuned.

    > Y at - it a way to factory reset and return to windows 8 and return the * HDD factory State? * Exactly as it was when I opened the box?

Of course, you can return to the factory settings. You said that you have created 3 discs of recovery using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.
These disks will again install the image of Toshiba and will fix the laptop in the same condition as at the first day of the purchase.

Take the first disc, the start of this drive and follow the instructions on the screen

Note: this will format the HARD drive and delete the created partitions.

  • Satellite A300 - how to recover the operating system without a recovery disk?

First of all, sorry for my very bad English.

I bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite A300, PC 9 months ago. I had problems with a virus and result is that despite clean-up and disinfection, the computer is still infected and I refused access to the hard drives and regedit.

I thought restoring the operating system factory preinstaled (hopefully, this is the solution and not the formatting) and Barrie told me to check out http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

I did it, but the PC it's imposible because there is no files. I don't have a rescue CD (if newbee).

    What can I do?

    Hello

Usually the A300 (European series) has been equipped with HARD drive recovery option which would be you allows to recover the laptop using the files on the HARD drive. But if this is not possible while something went wrong with the maybe HDD it s due to the infection by the virus

In any case if you are not able to recover the laptop using the recovery of HARD drive you need the recovery disc.
You can order it as suggested by resident on the other hand, you can use the MS Windows Vista disk and can download driver Toshiba page.

  • Question about the operating system reinstall on Portege R500

I bought the version of 64SSD R500, and for some reason any that it struck me to check if there was a DVD player to this topic.

    It was rather annoying.

I know it's easy to buy an external drve to copy software etc on the Portege, so this isn't so bad.

However, I'm considering a re - install, possibly to XP, but maybe just to reduce the amount of repulsive of bloatware I had on my computer when I turned on.

Now to the crux of the matter: if I use an external USB drive, I need USB drivers. If I delete the operating system, which will remove the drivers.

Finally, my question is: how in the name of hell is someone supposed to put a new installation in a R500?

    Thank you for your patience.

I understand everything up to the point with the bloatware.

But what I Don t understand is: what do you want with a USB hard drive? I hope that you don t average a USB - HDD (it s a bit confusing). ;)

Usually, you can use all the drives without the need of some drivers because the machine offers you the ability to boot from a USB device after switching on of the machine and see the Toshiba logo...
You need only press F12 and select the option to boot from an external USB CD/DVD drive. That's all.
