T61p will not identify new SATA drive

Hello

I recently bought a drive Seagate Momentus 7200 RPM 320 Gig - http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/disc/ds_momentus_7200_3.pdf (on sale at Best Buy for $99 - who could resist that?)

If the disc in the drive Bay, it works perfectly - Vista sees the complete concert 320 and it works without a doubt faster than my main 5400 RPM 160 Gig of support. However, if I install the drive as primary, the laptop does not start at all - the BIOS does not see the drive. I checked in the BIOS - the only SATA setting I have is to toggle between 'AHCI' and 'Compatibility Mode' and in each framework, I get the same result - the BIOS does not recognize the drive.

Model T61p - 6459-CTO

Vista Ultimate 32 bit

Latest available BIOS and system drivers installed

Any help would be appreciated.

What exactly you are doing when you are installing the drive as primary?

The symptoms you describe seem to indicate that the disk is not docked in the Bay.

See you soon,.

OK, that makes sense. Starting with Windows 8 key Code is built into the BIOS. If you could get an OEM of Windows 8 drive you can install it and it just works (activate) without needing a key Code.

And if she has had 10 Windows activated on this subject, you can reinstall Windows own 10 and it will activate only as soon as it is connected to the internet.

  • MacBook pro 2012 will not identify new SSD

I just bought a macbook pro of 2012 and have used it for two weeks without flaws with my 250 GB samsung SSD drive. Now I tried to update the size and bought myself a Corsair Force THE 480 GB to use as the primary drive. I plugged it in, but the mac does not recognize the drive. So I formatted with another mac and tried again. Still no luck. Tried the old drive. No luck with that one or the other. So I knew the data cable from being broken. But when I plug a normal HARD disk it recognizes when in the main location. So the question is, what is the problem with the mac? I don't understand.

And help will be greatly appreciated

  • T60 will not identify new 2 GB Dimm

Just a quick question to the community: my thinkpad T60 comes with a module of 512 MB Dimm and I installed a new 2 GB Dimm (alongside the original 512 MB).  The "thinkvantage" information system says I have 1022 mb of installed memory.  Information system control panel windows says I have 2.5 GB.  I downloaded the fancy of the Lenovo Web site utility to tell me what is in each Dimm slot and it says: no support for memory, for the two slots.

Any ideas on what is happening here?  I tried the DIMMs of switching between the two slots, which seemed to have no effect.  Also tried to Flash the bios, which had no effect.  Moreover, memory is the part number, genuine Lenovo correct (whatever it is worth).

    Thanks a bunch!

Looks like your laptop is fine, just the ThinkVantage System Info cannot recgonize the memory.  Maybe a ThinkVantage System Info Update will solve your problem.

The Bios reports 2.5 GB of ram?

  • Satellite A135-S2356 - BIOS will not identify SATA hard

Hello everyone, hope you can help out me.

Got a Satellite A135-2356 opportunity, everything seems fine but BIOS will not identify SATA HDD, shows no disk BIOS downgraded to 1.30, not good, upgraded to 1.40, not good. BIOS has no change/test/detection of HDD/SATA settings options. Tested the drive in another laptop and it reads very well. Received the Toshiba (Vista Basic 32) recovery CD, but given that the BIOS will not read the disk, can't do anything. Cleaned contacts, not good. This HARD disk must be too large, or something for the Board of Directors.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello Richie

To be honest, I do not think the disc is too big for your laptop. I can imagine that your laptop can handle with drives of 160 GB too. Unfortunately there is no public document on the possibilities of HARD drive upgrade. I can imagine that ASP in your country has information about such things.

It's also quite strange that HDD is not recognized correctly. Long ago, I had the same problem. Every time when I used F12 at startup disk HARD were not as boot device. Solution in my case was to upgrade the BIOS to the default settings. I believe that your BIOS has already the default settings, but try to do it again.

  • Windows 7 will not recognize the dvd drive

Windows 7 will not recognize the dvd drive, although it worked well for more than two years.  Now I can't access it to install new software.

It will not be displayed in the Device Manager, bad shooters to say it is not connected or is, tried Fixit fix (could not as "not applicable to your computer update"), uninstall iTunes (in the case of a conflict - even if it worked with the DVD of > 1 year), etc., but still cannot access the DVD.

It's obviously a known issue, given that a support page - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976187 that recommends the fix or manually disable ALPM active power management.  If it of a known issue, why is not included in the updates and that I have to disable ALPM power if management it worked ok before?

What now? Is turn off the power, my only option?  What happens if it is not yet recognized after that?

    ==========================================================

    After the foregoing:

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and the
correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

  • New SATA drives will not be initialized

A few weeks, I got a Western Digital Green 1 .5TB disc start coming out, so I quickly made sure I had a suitable backup and the reader sent in for RMA.  Then, I bought a new Samsung 2 TB and installed without problem.  Windows XP SP3 the drive recognized and allowed me to initialize the disk, the format and create partitions.

Then I had to restart my machine due to a software update and when XP loaded up, I noticed in 'My Computer' the reader is no longer listed.  I checked the Disk Manager, and while the hard drive was recognized, he began to "uninitialized".  Yet once I went through the steps to initialize/format/partition the drive, which worked perfectly, but after a reboot, the same question has occurred.

I tried to use another port SATA - no change in behavior.
I tried updating the firmware of the player - no change in behavior
I tried to use both methods of not formatting (quick and full) - no change in behavior

Today, I got my hard drive replaced by the return of Western Digital post and couldn't wait to install it and do it with (what I thought) was a nightmare drive Samsung.  I got everything in place correctly and turned on my PC.  Read the BIOS the drive fine and Windows recognises the new hardware and began to install the driver (I have another WD 1 .5TB already installed, so I had very practical pilots).  I initialized the disc formatted and partitioned to discover that the SAME ISSUE was happening on this new album.

I intend to try a new SATA cable when I get work in the hope that the question, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

  • New installation of Windows 7 will not identify the second internal hard drive

Attempted recently to upgrade a computer running the SP3 of XP to Windows 7.  Bought the new FULL version of 7.
Have two 1 t Seagate Barracuda SATA drives on board; Operating system in partition 1 of disk C:. second disc to store data only.

Several unsuccessful attempts to install 7, but with helpful suggestions, others on this forum, (i.e., update of the BIOS, re-formatting drive C to do a clean install, etc.) finally managed to a successful installation.

All right, except that it does not find my second hard drive.  I have the disks attached ports SATA 1 & 2, but the system reads them so much as the C: drive.  The second disc appears in the BIOS Setup and Explorer as just the C: drive.

Tried to change the SATA port for second drive to 3 and 4 with the same result.  It always appears as the C: drive.

How can I get the systΦme can recognize the drive, so it can be assigned to a drive letter and I can access?  I suspect that the reformatting of the first disc for installation probably erased some boot sector/configuration info.

A side issue: before attempting to upgrade to XP, I backed up my "Documents and Settings" on an external drive.  Now that XP is passed to the computer, can I continue to use Windows Easy Transfer to retrieve all my settings and info from the program, or who's going to screw me up?

Check if the hard drive is assigned to a drive letter in disk management.

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on management of

    Expand disk management

Select your external hard drive if its posted here

Make a right click paths and change drive letter

Restart your computer, open the computer in the start menu and see if it shows then.
