Table of contents generated a mess

With the help of FM 10 with a table of contents generated.  The first page of a chapter has 2 streams, "Chapter title" and "text body".  "Chapter title" exceeds "body text".  The 2 streams are not connected, because I don't want a headline to encroach on the text and ruin the formatting.  If the title is not related to what anyone, but the body is connected to the next page.

Table of contents generated Finally, puts the title of the chapter under all the other entries for this page.  The following pages are fine, until the next title page.

From other posts, I have moved around the page title (upwards and downwards), changed the names of stream and paragraph styles, and it still puts the flow changed title on this page.

Two text streams are defined on the master page.

It seems that all that is in the flow of a single displayed the first without worrying.  How can I fix?  How to read the stream in the correct order?

Help.

After several days of fighting, I decided to give in and make all a casting spanning 2 images.

The TOC works, which should surprise no one.

Just to be perverse, I went back and disconnected the executives still once, renamed them what, and continued to work on the table of contents.  So now do I want the way I want.

Go figure.

Not really intuitive, but does not require a hack, and I can live with the result.  As with many things with FM, once you find the rule, you can use it to do the job.  The observation of these rules is the hardest part.  Another 'undocumented feature' for books.

Thanks for all the help.

  • All my attempts so far to generate the table of contents for Kindle (.mobi) failed. Can anyone help?

I used InDesign CC to create an epub file and the TOC and the Navigation bar appear perfectly in Adobe Digital Editions (version 3.0). Then I saved the file to the IDML format open InDesign CS6 and use the Kindle Plugin to create a mobi file. I use the same style of table materials used to create the epub file, but although Kindlegen validates the file, the table of contents is unable to generate. I've been on several discussion forums and many people express problems by having their TOC displayed in Kindle Previewer. Can anyone help?

    Hello

Kindle requires a separate html file for OCD and even must be referenced in the guide in content.opf element. In your InDesign CC document, generate the table of contents on a page and make sure the option 'Make the anchor text to the source paragraph' is checked.

Now export the EPUB 3 file. Open EPUB in Sigil (it's a free EPUB editor of Google). Menu Goto tools-> Table of contents-> generate HTML Table of contents. This creates a new xhtml file and automatically adds the element of guidance in content.opf like this:

Save EPUB and open directly into Kindle Previewer. Table of contents option must be turned on now and should work.

Please try and let me know if it works.

  • Generate the table of contents with chapter markers?

It has been a while since I had to install and create a table of contents for a long document of single file, but I'm sure that I created TOCs in this way in the past. Then, why the text in the Section markers will appear in the table of contents? It is even possible to generate a table of contents that contains text of article marker?

I use InDesign CS5 in Windows. I have a file single document I'm trying to generate a table of contents for. I designed a 16-page manual in an inDesign file that includes a cover page, table of contents page and seven "chapters."

I created a separate section for each 'chapter' and used Chapter markers in the top of the page master for chapter names. It's something I did in the past of syntactically long documents containing several chapters.

I put the first page of each 'chapter' as a new Section on the Pages panel. In numbering and Section Options for each page, I checked the Section getting started, Automatic Page numbering, the Style of Page numbering: 1,2,3,4... and in Section marker: I put the name of 'chapter' in the text box.

    InDesign_Pages_NumberingSectionOptions.jpg

I've set up paragraph and character Styles and has used throughout my document. When I put in place the table of contents I created everything correctly, including a heading style that I used for all the sub lines in my file and my style of Section marker for chapter names.

    InDesign_TOC.jpg

When I insert the table of contents, generate headers sub with their page numbers, but the titles of the chapters which are chapter markers do not generate. Am I missing something or is it still possible to enter the text of chapter markers in a table of contents? I'm sure that he's worked in the past. Can anyone offer a solution for this?

    Thank you

    Kat

Looks like the markers section present only in the table of contents if they are on a document page. Try manually to the substitution of the frame.

  • Has anyone who has worked with doc us MIL - STD and generated with the success of the page numbers in the table of contents?

    I'm creating a template using FrameMaker 7.2.

MIL - STD dictates works package (such as chapters) page numbers in the format: 0001-1, 2-0001, 0002-1 and 2-0002, etc.

The problem I encounter draws in this format of the page number in the table of contents generated.

I used a variable on the Master Page, and generate page numbers in each package to work properly.

I know that in point 7.2 of the FM, you cannot include a variable in a table of contents generated.

So I tried changing the variable on the Master Page to text using a paragraph tag (WPnumber), but have not gotten it either works.

Tried all the other stuff I could think of, too.

In my view, a part of the problem is that FM cannot have leading zeros when you set the page number or chapter (understandable 99.9% of the time).

If anyone has suggestions or solutions, I am very interested to hear.

    Thank you.

    1Editor - and puzzled

I already manually put the zeros.

I just want to be clear that strikes the zeros directly on the master page does NOT have to include in the table of contents. You then type in the context of the reference to the table of contents also. In addition, you must have separate template and reference pages for chapters 10, 11, etc., in order to obtain the number of zeros correctly.

With my method, the zeros are introduced as part of the chapternumber itself, in the chapter number of the TEXT. You still have to type but only once for each file.

  • How can I include a table of contents header in a second table of contents?

I created a main table of contents for my Indesign CC document with all paragraphs which have "Heading 1" paragraph to be their style includes. That work perfectly well... with one exception: the topic of other TOCs. I use more than one table of contents, for example one for an index of the tables. These have their title defined yo "Heading 1" style, but the main table of contents simply do not include them even if I put it to include everything with "title 1" it cuts style. "." How to fix this?

For reasons I don't quite understand (but probably have to do with not to create a recursive loop problem that happen if you try to use the same style in the current TOC), ID don't look in the stories of the TOC for the paragraphs to be included in a table of contents. You must either add a placeholder point nonprinting pick it up on the page to a table of contents or manually insert the text in a table of contents generated.

  • Table of contents issue

Hello all - I'm new to the forums and relatively new to the framework, but I was an author of technology for 10 years.

I added a chapter of a book, and it will not be displayed in my table of contents.  I have not configured the original TOC, so I don't know why he sees the other chapters (I'm still learning).

I played with a few things, but can't make it work.  I don't want to put in place of the paradigms that could limit the creativity of your answers, so I'll wait before I explain what I tried.

    Any suggestions?

I imported the former chapter the new formats.  I'm assuming that this will ensure that the paragraph format names are the same.  What is a good hypothesis?

    Fix.

... There is no option in virtue to change it to set up the Table of contents.

Ah. This suggests that the TOC file is not a 'real' TOC file (generated).

It can be implemented by generating a table of contents, and then by copying and pasting in an ordinary chapter file. Or, it may have been created by artisan xrefs. Or it may have been a file generated at the same time, but lost this status due to a moving/renaming operation inelegant. These scenarios suggest that the author didn't know how to build and maintain an automagic OCD, or they had some unique formatting or content problem that prevented the use of a table of contents generated.

You may need to perform a backup of this file, delete it from the book, make a Add > Table of contents to generate a new and import failure TOC file formats.

But not yet. Wait for a few other remote other contributors here crystal ball readings.

And is there something weird about this OCD, as text drags inputs that can be lost if generated automatically?

  • Indented in the table of contents is not retained in the table of contents of the document

    Hi all

I use RH7 on a Windows XP Professional platform.

I am generating documentation and indentation in the table of contents generated in the document is not the same, not even close, as the project.

I tried to use HTML heading levels maintain checkbox, but while titles fonts are better, indentation in the table of contents for the document is getting worse.

When I disable this checkbox, it will give me a decent indentation in the table of contents, however the fonts used for headings in the document are sometimes more small then one used for normal text.

Does anyone has an idea how I could fix it? I don't want to do too much formatting in the Word document either, because it takes a long time.

    Thank you

Thus in the document that you want to book either title 1 and 2 book 2 and in the table of contents you want this?

As you can see, this is what I have in the TOC and the body is as described above.

If you select HTML to maintain levels, you will always get the above with the titles of books but third topic will become a heading 1, as it should with this option checked.

I maps to a Word template where the TOC styles are defined to be indented as above. Maybe you have to match to a Word template, or if you are, you just need to tweek styles in it.

  • How to change a table of contents which originally from framemaker but we import is no longer the wire

I apologize in advance because I'm a beginner user of robohelp. We had a framemaker file and pulled us in Robohelp. The table of contents generated quite well. But, for several reasons, mainly about how robohelp destroyed imported images from framemaker, we're now just edit the files in robohelp. I added a few items I want to appear in the output of webpro in the left navigation, but I can't understand how do. I'm sure whoever decided to address this need for more details but it seems that each technology author I know don't use robohelp. Help... robos, wherever you are...

    Hello

The table of contents in RoboHelp are just a file. Basically, you open the editor table of contents as the first step. Usually, he came within a folder for the table of contents icon in your project manager. It is enough to click plus the sign or double-click with the record of the Table of contents. And then double-click the actual TOC to open the table of contents Editor.

From here you insert, delete, or rearrange the books and Pages as you want. A simple way to add items to the table of contents must drag topics from the list of topics or the project manager in the table of contents Editor. Once you have done this, you can change the verbiage of the books in the table of contents and Pages.

To create a book, you can use the icons at the top of the table of contents Editor, or you can right-click in the table of contents Editor.

Hope this helps. If you need more, just ask!

  • Table of Contents Page size woes...

Using InDesign (CS4) generator of OCD, it generates the table of contents with the page numbers appropriate for the sections of the book, but the size of the page seems to be wrong. I use the format letter 1/2 for the page, but the table of contents generated seems to have been formatted to a page of the complete letter... it looks like this...

If the pipe symbols below represent page limits, points that precede the page numbers "wrap" to the next line... I know it is formatted on the page for a full letter size, because when I print, everything is lined up perfectly on a sheet of paper 8-1/2 "x 11":

Chapter 1....................................

.................... 25

Chapter 2....................................

.................... 76

There, anyone have an idea why it is doing this?... I created the page table of contents of the document with a 1/2-letter size, but the TOC generator doesn't seem to be aware of this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Terry

It seems that you must adjust tab settings in the paragraph style that is applied to the entries in the table of contents. Make sure that what one tab aligned to the right is fixed at the end of the text block. If a tab extends beyond the edge of the text frame, the text to "wrap" on a new line. It is sometimes useful to delete all tabs and then start over if multiple and tabs have been set.

  • Duplicate sections throughout the table of contents after generating the HTML5 multiscreen output

    Use: RoboHelp 10, version 10.0.0.287

    Steps to reproduce the problem:

    1. click on file > create > main layout (Multiscreen_HTML5)

2 al ' Generate window click on [Save and Generate]

    3. wait

    4. click on [view results]

5 results show swathes of the table of contents reproduced in other sections.  10 more times to repeat the generation before that the entire table of contents points are correct and I can publish.  This is not preventing me from doing the job, but it's certainly a time killer.

Background: I inherited a working version.  I did not create it.  I have more knowledge of the HTML language, but I'm not a developer.  I didn't upgrade beyond RH10 option.  I have studied this many times, but have not been able to find a solution.  The only other thing I've seen sometimes are error messages related to the toctree.js file, but I still don't understand those.  Even when I have not, this past yet, but I have included this error just in case it may be related, although I suspect that it is a separate issue.  I don't currently have the line in the js file because this sample is old and I have not seen the question at least a month.

Other Notes: I've seen a few posts on a similar question in the printed version, but, I do not have a printed version.  I don't know if that makes a difference, and do I know if anyone in the past that put in place or even where to go to watch.

  • FrameMaker 2015 is no longer generate tables of contents (TOC)

All of a sudden, some people in our team cannot generate tables of contents in FrameMaker 2015, while others may still. We could all generate TOCs without problem until this week (at least, this week is when we noticed the problem). Are there known issues with the 3.1 update that was released in April (I think)?

When we select Add > > create Standalone TOC, FrameMaker creates a TOC file and adds it to the book, but the file is completely empty. When we try to update the TOC file, nothing happens. When we try to create/update fakes with other books and models, same thing.

Other people are able to create/update TOCs with these same files. We have not been able to determine what is the difference which is causing the problem.

Those of us with the problem all seem to have 2015 FrameMaker version 13.0.3.495 installed. But at least a person who has the same version of hotfix can create/update TOCs. (We are all on Windows 7, 64-bit).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

    Jason nichols

    Jason,

We have introduced an OCD related bug in update Fm 13.0.3 where in unstructured books OCD is not generated in structured mode.

As a solution, he is requested to work in unstructured for unstructured books Mode:

    1. edit > Preferences > Interface product > select FrameMaker > restart FM

    2. open the book > Update > should work

We work for a quick update for the same thing.

  • When I generate the table of contents from a new .book, I get blank pages between each page of the table of contents

With FrameMaker 2015. When I generate the table of contents from a new .book, I get blank pages between each page of the table of contents, they are totally blank does not even a block of text. I click on Add> autonomous Create TOC. I keep the default settings. And that's what I'm left with.

    TOC Frame 2015 small.png

I can get rid of them by special> Delete page. But I never had to do before the 2015 version. I tried with older files generated in frame 10. same thing. If someone has encountered this?

Master Pages are part of each document.

You can import master pages from another document (i.e. a ' model') in your current document using the file > import > Formats... option and select layout from the list (deselect all others).

If you have changed the current TOC for the problem of the Page Master on the left, then simply save the file and use the Edit > update book option for that OCD regenerated by using the new page templates.

If I were in your shoes, the next thing I would try is to open the pod output configuration. Define a new CHM window there. So be sure to choose this new window in your presentation of single Source recipe.
