Table of contents & sections completed

Hi all, just generally looking for some advice here.

I develop some e-learning.  For now, assume that there are no quiz items in e-learning.  It's a bit linear e-learning, the user must read the information on each slide, click Next, go to the next slide, etc., and so on.  Assume that the e-learning module essentially contains four sections (call Introduction, Learn, Try and Conclusion).  FYI, e-learning will take place in the Cornerstone OnDemand LMS.

I want users to have a Visual indicator that shows that they have achieved each of the sections.  I realize account I could use the Table of contents to show this to a certain extent and that is explored in method 2, but I would like your opinion on method 1:

Method 1:  I would like to e-learning to launch on a Homepage blade I would create, which contains links to the four sections: Introduction, learn, try and Conclusion.  The user completes each section, he was invited to return to the slide of the House.  Whenever they form a section and return to the slide of the House, I would like to a green check mark to appear next to each completed section to indicate that they have made this article.  It is important that the user is able to log out of e-learning and back and that already completed sections still see the completed (indicated by the green check mark).  I guess I would need to use some sort of advanced actions.  Is it still possible in Captivate?

Method 2:  I realize that I could use the Table of contents and that might just be simpler.  However, I prefer the method described in method 1, because I have much better control over the content.  However, if I use the table of contents, I would like to know the best way to show the State of implementation of the section.  I know that I have to group the slides in a folder in the table of contents, if for example I could group slides 2-10 in the case of Presentation , slides 11-20 in the record learning , slide 21-30 in the folder try and slides 31-40 in the folder of the Conclusion , however each once each article is completed by the user (normally indicated in the table of materials by a check mark green) It is not shown as complete in the table of contents.  The reason for this, is that I want the user to be able to view the article in the table of contents, but not the individual slides, and it appears a section appears only as finished in the table of contents if I show one or more slidesin of this article.  Is there a way to get around this limitation?

I largely prefer to explore method 1 and method 2 is certainly viable if I can overcome the above restriction.

I develop in Captivate 4 and Captivate 5 - I prefer Cp4, but happy to come back to Cp5 so is there any solution.  Thanks to everyone for all the advice!

Hello

Maybe my blog can help you? I offer a free model as well (it's for CP5), provided that you send me an email address (can be done via private message):

I wrote a book in which I created a table of contents listing the sections in the book part i, part two e.g. etc..

Can I now creates the TOC for each part?

    Thank you

You can have a table of contents preceding each section. So, for your Part One article, you place your insertion point before the text in the section first and apply Insert menu: Table of contents: Section.  A new page containing the table of contents will be inserted before each article that you apply it too.

  • How to upgrade only the page numbers from a table of contents in Indesign CS6?

    Hello!

Help, please! I make a medical book with more then 1300 pages and about 40 different table of contents.

I want to update only the page numbers on all the table of contents. But I don't see the option to update the table of contents.

I've seen on other forums that it is a very old and familiar problem. Do you have Adobe already fixed it?

Nothing has changed with the function table of contents. If you update a table of contents using the standard method of the table of contents, the complete table of contents are updated.

You can get the page numbers only updates manually by creating your table of contents by using cross-references.

  • Table of contents and Navigation to articles

So if I set up my next app to have a cover article, table of contents section and then a few items of content, how do I get a button on the jump of toc in section 3 and then on this article which would take you to a return to the table of contents button?

  • Table of contents to highlight the problem

    Hello

    I use RH8.0.2.

When I click on the text of the hyperlink it navigate to the correct page, but in the content of the table of contents section that appears is not highlighted. Then there's the page where he was selected remains highlighted.

For example: as in Fig1, if I click on the "TMD PDU" it navigate to the page on the right as in Fig. 2, but fake 'E - UTRA RLC Messages Overview' remains enabled. Ideally in TOC "TDG PDU" page should be highlighted.

    How to solve this problem?

    Hi Rahul

There are a few things you need to check here. I will assume from the images, you create the CHM files.

First, open the project set-up pod and expand the Windows folder. Change the properties of your CHM window, and then make sure that the option to synchronize the table of contents has been activated.

Once you've done that, change the properties of single Source available and click the change... button. This should open another dialog box where you must click on the Styles tab OCD make sure you check the option always show selection .

  • Duplicate sections throughout the table of contents after generating the HTML5 multiscreen output

    Use: RoboHelp 10, version 10.0.0.287

    Steps to reproduce the problem:

    1. click on file > create > main layout (Multiscreen_HTML5)

2 al ' Generate window click on [Save and Generate]

    3. wait

    4. click on [view results]

5 results show swathes of the table of contents reproduced in other sections.  10 more times to repeat the generation before that the entire table of contents points are correct and I can publish.  This is not preventing me from doing the job, but it's certainly a time killer.

Background: I inherited a working version.  I did not create it.  I have more knowledge of the HTML language, but I'm not a developer.  I didn't upgrade beyond RH10 option.  I have studied this many times, but have not been able to find a solution.  The only other thing I've seen sometimes are error messages related to the toctree.js file, but I still don't understand those.  Even when I have not, this past yet, but I have included this error just in case it may be related, although I suspect that it is a separate issue.  I don't currently have the line in the js file because this sample is old and I have not seen the question at least a month.

Other Notes: I've seen a few posts on a similar question in the printed version, but, I do not have a printed version.  I don't know if that makes a difference, and do I know if anyone in the past that put in place or even where to go to watch.

  • How to display a complete tree of the table of contents in the body of a page instead of the sidebar?

How to display a full (project) TOC tree in the body of the pages of the section instead of the default sidebar (left pane)? Is there a simple way to do this in the application? I have not yet discovered a way to do it, but I can't get to the right place. Any suggestions?

I don't think you can view the table of contents on a page, and even if you could, the sidebar would always be there for indexing and search. The only possibility I can think of is to create a page where you create links arranged to act as a TOC, then maybe iFrame this page in. Each book might be a drop-down list to view links to topics.

Maintenance would be horrible and she barely meets your requirement to be simple.

  • I'd like to produce consistent spacing before and after the section headings in the table of contents

    Hello

I am trying to create a style for the entries of table of contents for the titles of the books section. I would have a little more vertical space between these securities and two other section titles or sub-section titles, like so:

    Section 1

    Paragraph 1 a

    Paragraph 1(b)

    Section 2

    Section 3

and so on. To do this, I can easily add a space before and after the space for the section title style. The problem comes when there are two titles with no intermediaries paragraphs, such as 2 and 3 in the example above. Then, the space between these titles is double. If I set is a nonzero value space before or after the space, but not both, then the titles won't be correctly spaced in areas where it has paragraphs either below or above a section title. Does anyone know how to get a uniform spacing?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Make a third style for the case where there are two titles of section together.

  • Generated table of contents contains errors in the sections

I'm working on a large document that was created by someone else. When I try to update the table of contents, there are a few spelling mistakes that are not in the headings in the body of the document (I corrected, but the table of contents are acting as errors are still there).

    For example:

In my paper on page 32, there is a section "Fieldbus Protocol" (he was previously misspelled, such as ' Protochasl ' and I fixed it)

It shows in the generated table of contents: 32 Fieldbus Protochasthe < < so this is to show the 'old' spelling, even though I've updated the table of contents with the page layout > Update Table of contents command.

Is there a code behind (like HTML) for InDesign text which is perceived by the TOC generator? It acts like it is looking 'old' versions of these positions.

    Thank you!

are you sure that this section of paragraph style is used to build the table of contents?

There may be some invisible paragraph style which is then used to generate a theTOC

You should check the exact name of the paragraph style that was used in your table of contents

  • Table of contents does not include the Section prefix

The pages of this document in particular has a section prefix 'A', so the pages are numbered as well: a-1, A-2, A-3, etc.

When I run a Table of contents, the table of contents is generated without the prefix, as the following section:

    Section 1... 1

    Section 2... 5

    Section 3... 9

Is there a way, or something I'm missing from the table of contents is generated as follows:

    ... Section 1 a-1

    Section 2... A-5

    Section 3... A-9

    CS6, TIA

Discovered the problem. When the numbering, I thought that I had actually created a section prefix. I have not, I just typed in the 'A' before the current Page marker.

  • A vertical section only - DPS Table of contents?

I'm fairly certain that I'll answer my own question here, but here's my situation:

Customer wants to only a single article, which will be about 60 pages. They do not want users to have to right or left, which means that they want it is a long, vertical section.

Now, as I understand it, the table of contents is built on a base by article, which means that I have to add new items and users must drag right or left to scroll through each. If I add five items, it would add five items to the table of contents.

Anyway to add the table of contents (DPS user interface table of contents when you tap once to show) if I have just one long article.

I can build a Table of contents page and just do the buttons to view each section below and then add an overall table of the button content to the design of page to return to the table of contents above.

    Thoughts?

There is no way to add default TOC entries without having to real articles of the folio. If you have only one article, you'll have only a table of contents.

You could certainly make a page called TOC and then make the buttons to go up and down this page, but it's a really weird user experience

  • Table of contents using a style/section of the master page

I'm at the top of my head I think... and probably incorrectly to the top of my document.  I hope I can quickly explain where I am:

    Question 1

I'd like a Table of contents to use 10 section headers that appear throughout my document.  Here's how I set up:

    • In the master page, a place for the header of section and it gives a paragraph style.
    • Then, throughout the document, I used the "numbering and section options" start each new section and give this article is the unique name.

When I went to generate the Table of contents, I've specified using this particular paragraph style that I used for the section headers, but nothing appears (except for the title, I asked for the General table of contents).  It's as if this isn't to find the sections - or this style (which applies only to the master page).

    Where am I wrong?

    Question 2

I wish that my Table of contents, not numbered.  How do I do that?

    Shanell

I don't know that you understood my post. I was able to do exactly what you did - create a master page with a frame and the section marker character (indicating "section" on the master page) and then add the actual text of the marker in the numbering and section options. The text appears on the page of live document.

When I tried to do a table of contents, text was not resumed UNTIL I selected and carried this master frame on the page of the document (Ctrl + Shift + click on Windows or Cmd + Shift + click on Mac on the image that you want to replace). After substitution, the text appeared as scheduled in the table of contents.

You're right about the number of page for this page. You can use another master without a page number, or you can cancel and delete the master page number frame. I assume that you will need to use a different master for the first page and pages in any section to avoid having the marker appear on all pages, or you can replace only the first page so that you don't repeat entries in the table of contents for each page of each section.  If you use the marker as a running header Section, you can learn more about Variables header running in the help files in place. In many ways, the use of a variable can be simpler and more direct.

  • Buttons previous as well as the next topic would work in a complete table of contents or only in a book?

    Hi all

I have a project of webhelp with several books and browse sequences.  The previous buttons as well as the following topic seem to operate with a single book.  Is that how it is supposed to work?  And if so, is there a way to make it work for OCD together through all the books?  With the help of HR 2011.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hello

What you have to do is to create a large single sequence that runs through all of the topics in the table of contents. Exactly how do you this depends on your version of RoboHelp. For example, if you use the version 10 and earlier versions, choose the auto create option and enter 0 for the number of levels.

If it is version 11 or 2015 Release, there is an interesting option provided.

  • How to change the table of contents

Awhile back, I created a table in my document and it works very well. Now I need to add a section and I completely forgot how do. If anyone can help?

Your table of contents is pulling one or more Styles (probably the stars) paragraph of the document. Add the new article he style identical to existing sections (same paragraph Styles), then update the table of contents (right click anywhere in it and choose to update Table of contents). Unless you have a few other wrinkles, that should come at the end.

  • Table of Contents Page size woes...

Using InDesign (CS4) generator of OCD, it generates the table of contents with the page numbers appropriate for the sections of the book, but the size of the page seems to be wrong. I use the format letter 1/2 for the page, but the table of contents generated seems to have been formatted to a page of the complete letter... it looks like this...

If the pipe symbols below represent page limits, points that precede the page numbers "wrap" to the next line... I know it is formatted on the page for a full letter size, because when I print, everything is lined up perfectly on a sheet of paper 8-1/2 "x 11":

Chapter 1....................................

.................... 25

Chapter 2....................................

.................... 76

There, anyone have an idea why it is doing this?... I created the page table of contents of the document with a 1/2-letter size, but the TOC generator doesn't seem to be aware of this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Terry

It seems that you must adjust tab settings in the paragraph style that is applied to the entries in the table of contents. Make sure that what one tab aligned to the right is fixed at the end of the text block. If a tab extends beyond the edge of the text frame, the text to "wrap" on a new line. It is sometimes useful to delete all tabs and then start over if multiple and tabs have been set.
