Why did you take EXAMPLE offline?
CREATE TABLE just make changes to metadata in the SYSTEM tablespace.

    Hello

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/tspaces005.htm

    just a quick question,
    alter tablespace....offline temporary
    A tablespace can be taken offline temporarily, even if there are error conditions for one or more files in the storage space. When you specify TEMPORARY offline, the database supports offline data files that are not already in offline mode, the control points as she does.
    If no file is offline, but you use the temporary clause, media recovery is not required to bring to the online storage space. However, if one or more files from the storage space are offline due to clerical errors, and you are taking the tablespace offline temporarily, the tablespace requires recovery before you can bring it online.

    Based on the explanation above, done means that these datafile (with the error condition) code with the storage space you want to use offline will not in offline mode.
    Oracle will be only offline these 'good' datafile associate with storage space?

    My confusiong early when he mentions:
    if one or more files of the tablespace are offline because of write errors,
    which make me feel that even in the midst of erros, all storage data files will be always taken offline.

    The documents also mention:
    Specify TEMPORARY only when you cannot take the tablespace offline normally. In this case, only the files taken offline because of errors need to be recovered before the tablespace can be brought online. Specify IMMEDIATE only after trying both the normal and temporary settings.
    In this case, based on my current knowledge, I mention since all data files are taken offline in the middle of the condition of erros, we just need to recover those files that have the condition of error on them. ???

    Well, Yes, but it's because the files of data with errors will already be ordering offline offline will not be offline them.
    >
    that means the code of these datafile (with the error condition) with the tablespace you want to use offline will not be in offline mode
    >
    No - the doc says that data files wilth errors have been offline. And after ordering TEMPORARY if you try to put the storage space online, it will fail because it will try to put offline the with online also return errors.

    That's why the doc has this cautionary
    >
    Caution:

    If you take a tablespace offline, use the NORMAL clause (default) if possible. This setting ensures that the tablespace requires not coming online restore, even if after incomplete recovery, you reset the sequence of redo logs using an ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS.
    >
    You should check the status of all data files before you use CONNECTION TEMPORARY offline, or if a data file is already offlilne because of a clerical error, you will find that what you thought was temporary will avoid you to bring online storage space unless you do a recovery.

  • Why can they take default permanent tablespace offline?

    We cannot take the tablespace temporary default offline, as well as of the SYSTEM, UNDOTBS1.
    so, I wonder why we take offline the permanent tablespace default as USERS?
    What happens if there is only a single tablespace 'USERS' in my database?

    PhoenixBai wrote:

    >
    not me obsessed to this topic. OCP tends to make a fuss out of it, so I have no choice, but to play the game.

    back to the point, the original question is:

    Your Oracle 10g database has 6 tablespaces in which:
    -TEMP is the default temporary tablespace
    - UNDOTBS1 is the default undo tablespace
    - USERS is the default permanent tablespace
    In this database, which three tablespaces can be made offline? (Choose three.)

    1. USERS
    2. TEMP
    3. UNDOTBS1
    4. SYSTEM
    5. SYSAUX
    6. PROD

    responses, are without a doubt, 1,5,6. and I have no problem seen the SYSTEM may not be in offline mode.
    but, do not understand why TEMP and UNDOTBS1 isn't in offline mode while USERS can?
    for me, TEMP & UNDOTBS1 are to serve the manipulation on the data that is contained in the USERS (or PROD) tablespaces in this case.
    Thus, when data are not available, what is the point to keep TEMP & UNDOTBS1?

    Another possibility is: we are allowed to disconnect USERS tablespace, because currently we have an another PROD tablespace to store data?

    want you or anyone can help explain a little.
    I just want one another reasonable explanation that oracle doc said.

    For the first thing, the declaration this tablespace users may be taken offline is indeed correct . Now the System and Sysaux are containing the data dictionary of the database and without whom, there is no point that this database can work. This is why its mandatory for them to be online and if off line by crushing or something, the recovery of them must also occur in the phase (Mount) offline.

    The Undo tablespace is required to service the mechanism of reading-consistansy of the database. If quoted to be mandatory (i.e. your AUM), it cannot be taken offline and being crushed, his recovery would be as necessary a restoration in offline mode. The Temp tablespace is a special tablespace (he was't it always in all previous versions) for the database and if it's a must for the datbase for read-only and do something that will exceed PGA. So it cannot be disconnected as well.

    Now, I'm sure you mean you know all this, what about users being able to get offline, right? Well, the answer is quite simple. Everything simply because you establish a default tablespace for the user be available as their default tablespace (further a quota to spread on it), it does not change any property of this tablespace. Its the tablespace, unlikely normal Temp, cancel and so on. He did justto do that people do not, by mistake, make objects in the System tablespace. A tablespace of default tablespace of the user database for the creation of objects, does not mean that all of a sudden, its now taking a special meaning. That is why its possible to redo this tablespace still transactions that apply to any other tablespace (by default) with the exception of the system those. I don't think to dig any deeper. There is no other explanation that it is possible for this behavior of the IMO.

    Hello

    I have to move a tablespace file to another drive on the server. This server is a physical standby server in a configuration of dataguard. I need to put the tablespace offline and the standby server is not open but mounted for recovery. How to proceed?

    Thank you.

    Yes I copied the file to the desired location before you rename it on the database. In addition, there are no errors on the file names. What are good names.

    So maybe you have not cancelled the MRP on the eve.
    If you cancel and still you are facing the error, then:

    1. stop the day before

    2. Mount the eve

    3. move the data file using the command from the OS

    4 rename the data at the level of the DB file

    change the database file rename to ;

    5. start MRP

  • Diffrence between the tablespace is ONLINE and READ WRITE?

    Hi all

    I'm very confused on the tablespace is ONLINE and READ WRITE?

    Some say that if the tablespace is online, this means that its READ WRITE and when its offline then its READ-only.

    So, what is the difference between them:

    ALTER TABLESPACE offline tablespacename; -> done mean READ only now?

    ALTER TABLESPACE tablespacename online; -> is it means its READ WRITE now?

    If Yes, then what is the use of the following command if above 2 commands? :

    ALTER TABLESPACE tablespacename [READ ONLY |] READING WRITING];

    Kind regards

    Confused Ritu

    In addition, when the tablespace is offline, objects belonging to those who are not available for use to users. You wouldn't be able to query for objects in a tablespace offline.

    When the tablespace is read only - no write operation cannot be performed i.e. etc. INSERT/UPDATE/DEL. Oracle says that read-only tablespaces provides a way to protect the historical data so that users cannot modify it. You can drop objects, such as tables or indexes, to a tablespace read-only, but you can't create or modify objects in a tablespace read only

    In order to bring a tablespace OFFLINE to ONLINE - so that it is available to users, you must "ALTER TABLESPACE online tablespacename" command. A tablespace online can be READ ONLY or READ WRITE mode.

    RMAN DUPLICATE provides that all files.

    You could take a manual backup and restore it on the standby server, then create a standby controlfile and restore it on the standby server. These could exclude the data deleted file.

  • Undo Tablespace - newbie question

    Q1. An Undo Tablespace is required in a database? I thought that only agents were SYSTEM and SYSAUX of TEMP?

    Q2. What happens if you do not have an Undo Tablespace?

    Q2. How are they an Undo Tablespace to undo / Rollback Segments in a database?

    Jim,

    I did not notice that it is not mentioned in the documentation, or at least I couldn't find if its somewhere. But when 9i has been released, I'm sure that stated explicitly that the number of segments that would be created is 10.

    However, what determines exactly how much is created in the first place? In my case, my database has 61 segments!

    But are you sure that 61 segments belong to a single undo tablespace? My best guess is that you have several Undo tablespace created and the number of segments is of each of them. Can you check and confirm please?

    I understand that the parameter UNDO_RETENTION will determin when these segments can be replaced, but I am trying to get my head round how my database has finished with 61 undo segments and will be he never ever get rid of the any of these segments? (i.e. is it just continue to add but never remove all know is that as a concept of the high water line?)

    Not to my knowledge at least. I know that the number of segments can be less than the number 10, but more which would be created at any time and that too in such a number of top, no, did not meet any reference that has never mentioned it.

    LSO a number of segments are offline - why should it be?

    Yet once, which just goes to confirm my doubt that these segments are displayed including tablespaces offline are not defined by default for your database. A tablespace can be set to the default db only its segments, and it would have also shown online. Again, check parameter undo_tablespace and see dba_rollback_segs as if the segments that are shown as online, belong only this tablespace or more.

    Daniel is correct. What you thought was:

    8.3.4 Renaming a Datafile in the Primary Database

    When you rename one or more datafiles in the primary database, the change is not propagated to the standby database. Therefore, if you want to rename the same datafiles on the standby database, you must manually make the equivalent modifications on the standby database because the modifications are not performed automatically, even if the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter is set to AUTO.

    The following steps describe how to rename a datafile in the primary database and manually propagate the changes to the standby database.

       1.

          To rename the datafile in the primary database, take the tablespace offline:

          SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE tbs_4 OFFLINE;

       2.

          Exit from the SQL prompt and issue an operating system command, such as the following UNIX mv command, to rename the datafile on the primary system:

          % mv /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_4.dbf
          /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_x.dbf

       3.

          Rename the datafile in the primary database and bring the tablespace back online:

          SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE tbs_4 RENAME DATAFILE      2> '/disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_4.dbf'
            3>  TO '/disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_x.dbf';
          SQL> ALTER TABLESPACE tbs_4 ONLINE;

       4.

          Connect to the standby database, query the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view to verify all of the archived redo log files are applied, and then stop Redo Apply:

          SQL> SELECT SEQUENCE#,APPLIED FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG ORDER BY SEQUENCE#;
          SEQUENCE# APP
          --------- ---
          8 YES
          9 YES
          10 YES
          11 YES
          4 rows selected.

          SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;

       5.

          Shut down the standby database:

          SQL> SHUTDOWN;

       6.

          Rename the datafile at the standby site using an operating system command, such as the UNIX mv command:

          % mv /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_4.dbf /disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_x.dbf

       7.

          Start and mount the standby database:

          SQL> STARTUP MOUNT;

       8.

          Rename the datafile in the standby control file. Note that the STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter must be set to MANUAL.

          SQL> ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '/disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_4.dbf'
            2> TO '/disk1/oracle/oradata/payroll/tbs_x.dbf';

       9.

          On the standby database, restart Redo Apply:

          SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE
            2> DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;

    If you do not rename the corresponding datafile at the standby system, and then try to refresh the standby database control file, the standby database will attempt to use the renamed datafile, but it will not find it. Consequently, you will see error messages similar to the following in the alert log:

  • Recovery through newly created tablespace

    All,

    I took a backup log seq. 100, then created a tablespace 2 hours after the last backup (tell newspaper seq. 105) and now have a requirement to restore the backup and recover for the moment (through the CREATE TABLESPACE command).

    When I get to the point where the database creates the tablespace, I get the following error:

    ORA-00283: cool cancelled due to errors
    ORA-01244: datafile (s) without a name added to controlfile by media recovery
    ORA-01110: data file 34: ' / u02/oradata/wchpec01/UK_DATA1.dbf'

    I tried everything that follows, and they have failed:

    1) obtained the file number from v$ datafile and running the following command:

    change the database file rename ' / oracle/product/9.2.0/dbs/UNNAMED00034' to ' / u02/oradata/wchpec01/UK_DATA1.dbf';

    ORA-01141: Error renaming the 34 - new file data file
    ' / u02/oradata/wchpec01/SPLEX_DATA1.dbf' not found

    (2) I "touched" a file empty and he gave UK_DATA1.dbf, tried again and it still failed.

    (3) the tablespace Offline (ERROR in line 1):
    Ora-01109: database is not open)

    (4) data files offline, same error as 3 above

    Option 1 above is what is written in the documentation and still have failed.

    Any help will be much appreciated.

    Concerning

    Hi, using

    ALTER DATABASE CREATE DATAFILE

    and use the same old file name.

    concerning

  • Space is not to be released after the DROP TABLESPACE command

    DB version :10.2.0.4.0
    OS : SunOS SF40z4196 5.10 Generic_Patch_118844-30 i86pc i386 i86pc
    I drop the tablespace using the command
    drop tablespace TBS_TEST including contents and datafiles;
    The data file is in fact fallen at the level of the BONE after the above command. But space isn't being released more
    df -h /filesystem_name
    still shows the old freespace information.
    It is because of some process taking oracle always the file handle.
    ML note ID * 469731.1* speaks of a similair topic. But he said that it is not a bug and "expected" behaviour

    I tried to put the tablespace OFFLINE and then drop. The changes appear after 3 to 4 minutes. But this "fix" doesn't work now.

    I had to bounce once PB for this problem. But I still have the same question.
    All the world faced a similair problem?

    Hello

    It is true that it is a normal behavior on Unix file system.

    To avoid this, you can next time (it's too late for that drop Tablespace) drop the contents of the Tablespace, and RESIZE its data to a very low value (for example 128 K) files.

    Then, you drop the Tablespace with the data files. However the OS's features would have already recovered you more space used by this Tablespace.

    Otherwise, to recover space, you may need to restart your database, it may be sufficient.

    Hope this helps.
    Best regards
