tabs and windows from last session won't load

When I start up the computer and open Mozilla everything that happens is a blank tab what I had of the previous session are gone. I tried to go into the options and under general to open them and that doesn't seem to work, and when I go to my top menu bar and look under history, it shows nothing. Before this last update, that's how I restored a lost session when necessary. I'm just at a loss to understand what is happening now.

Hi happyfrog, assume you found the .js file at least one that looks promising in the sense that it is about the time when it would have contained the missing tabs. Here's how you get Firefox to restore THIS file instead of the most recent.

(1) the folder settings (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox using the method applicable for this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1061735#answer-727719

(2) If Firefox still works: leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Break while Firefox ends his cleaning... This may take a few minutes.

(3) and rename sessionstore.js something like sessionstore.old

(4) copy the file that you want to try (old previous.js or other) in this profile folder and rename sessionstore.js

(5) run Firefox. If your session is not restored automatically, use history > restore previous session. Firefox should display the tabs from the file that you copied in the profile folder.

    3. search internet and here for a similar problem with this update, FIREFOX 29

Please consider creating a backup of all files affected just by applying the following steps.

In '% appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\' is a file called < something > .default (this is the your firefox profile folder)

    1. close Firefox

    2. in this folder, delete the following files:

    • sessionCheckpoints.json
    • sessionstore.js + variations such as sessionstore - 1.js, sessionstore.bak, etc.

    3. restart Firefox

Session restore should now work even though your last session will be always lost. In case you still have questions, try to disable the session restore feature before you apply above steps and he subsequently reactivation.

  • Tabs from last Session rather than homepage list during startup

Using FF 4.0.1 and when well even I have (and have ALWAYShad) 'Show my Homepage only at startup' selected and NOT 'windows & tabs fr. '. The last time' selected, windows and tabs from my last session have suddenly (starting yesterday) appear whenever I start FF. (And I don't not updated to 4.0.1 yesterday; done only a few weeks previously).

If you are not using "show my windows and tabs from last time ', so make sure that Firefox is closing properly to prevent restoration of session log may be overwritten.

    See "hang out":

  • option "restore tabs and windows since the last time"-does not work!

The absence of "tabs" can be solved (by saving pages in the bookmarks)- but I have found no solution to remember open windows. Are there plans to replace this (fantastic!) feature in Firefox4, or how do I go back to an older version of Firefox?

It is possible that there is a problem with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the profile folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the profile folder

    • Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: opens showing the file

If you see files sessionstore-# .js with a number in the left part of the name as sessionstore - 1.js then delete those as well.

Delete sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and groups of tabs to get lost, so you'll have to create them again (note).

    See:

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions of the origin of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).

  • How can I restore my tabs and windows, open or closed, when all else fails?

It's not so much a question, an answer that some people desperately need.

Since the Version 34, Firefox has done a superb job to restore the tabs created by the user, application or restart Firefox (if this option is chosen).

The details of how to restore the tabs are covered using base online and even Firefox how to deal with several accidents now (for example, as an addon) ruin the normal backup file are also well explained.

However, today I accidentally pressed Alt + F4 twice on my keyboard ill-conceived and closed my main window, with 93 tabs and another window of Firefox as well. I'm not sure that's exactly what happened, but I lost all my tabs 93.

I read a lot of posts where people give suggestions, but none worked. Whenever I've restored a sessionstore.js file version saw the same lonely empty tab Restoring prefs.js did nothing, and not more than to changes in internal configuration constants.

I tried refreshing / reset Firefox (which preserves the bookmarks), but I couldn't always restore the tabs. It was now clear that the problem was in sessionstore.js (and all its backups) for sure.

I write for people who must restore their windows or tabs and don't mind be technical on this subject. This is my situation.

The solution was to realize that the sessionstore.js file contains the JSON code, which is an effective way to represent integers and strings arranged in a tree structure.

I thought that there must be a JSON Editor somewhere and it turns out there is a great available online, at www.jsoneditoronline.org . It can read a file on your computer, edit it, then save it to your computer.

As soon as I read sessionstore.js in the editor, it was obvious, easy how this was going to be. The top level of the tree is understandable. Simply, I grabbed the data representing the window with 93 tabs and dragged in the list of the closed windows of Firefox in the list of open windows. This automatically moved the history of each tab and even strings entered in forms.

After copying sessionstore.js to Firefox profile, I started Firefox once more. Reading Pandora reported that my tabs were back and running once more.

Now, change the JSON code isn't something that everyone is ready for. And your problem may not be reflected in the JSON tree so simply. But, for the technical spirit of people who do not want to lose their tabs or windows to a mistake or an accident, this technique may be just what it takes when all else fails.

This seems very practical. Make itself comfortable. A kind of backup would be
Create a folder in the Bookmarks Manager and make a list of links here.

Just a note. The sessionstore file shows the last windows / tabs that
are open. Because the window with 90 tabs has been closed in the first place, then the
other, that's what caused the problem.

Please change the title of the post by adding == solved == to it. Others may think
you ask for help, not offering is not a solution.

  • Firefox loads a Web site but does not self-paced, will display on another tab and driven from another tab.

Firefox loads and runs the first tab successfully. The second tab some site direct you to tell it has loaded this page but does not display anything. Redirect the third tab to a website will be as the website to be loaded on the second tab, but ordered from the third tab. This process then continues.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the start safe mode window or make changes.

Yes, simply use % somewhere in the address bar, maybe before you begin typing information specific to the tab you want.

Here is some other information about the Windows updates for you, I put in place some time and which you may find useful if you are having problems with Windows updates:

Microsoft gives sometimes you updates for the 3rd party hardware: graphics, network cards, etc.

You must only obtain the latest drivers for them to the site of the real hardware manufacturer, like Microsoft normally does not have these latest drivers available as Microsoft invokes the material part 3rd RTOS provide.

But unfortunately, the only way to know which is the update of the problem is to install them one by one, until you find the 'wrong' for your installation.

You can do a system restore to get back until it has been installed (which is NOT the best way to remove an update) or follow this method:

    'Remove an update'

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/remove-an-update

'Remove an update - Windows 7'

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/remove-update#1TC=Windows-7

When you have found the issue of update of the list of updates which is presented > then right click on the update problem > select Hide update > and it will not be available to you once again

    Or the other of these two update settings will give you the chance to see what you want to install through Windows updates;

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Windows will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

But remember you normally only have problems with hardware 3rd party drivers. Other updates are to improve the Performance and security of your system
